Using headers as references - issues
are other people having lots of issues using headers as references?
the 2 main problems i see are:
- in simple ( e.g. a+b/c) type formulae, numbers can get confused when it references absolute cells, i think this is caused by the header containing spaces, or other 'interesting' characters, when you click on the cells, as you are adding them, numbers generates 'invalid cell references'
- when using functions (e.g. sum) ranges cant be made up of 'absolute references' e.g. if i a total column, e.g. i want to sum columns a-z e.g. aa2=sum(a2:z2). numbers gets 'irritated' it tries to substitute the headings if you use the mouse, - but then says invalid cell reference
if you do sum(heading name) - numbers complains, if you put this in the same column... as it tries to include it self in the sum ... errr... couldnt it exclude that cell ... would be nice if we could have sum(row name ) and sum(column name) as short cuts, rather than having to select explicit ranges
and autofill, please please please, give us a keyboard shortcut ... how about if you copy one cell, and select to paste into multipe, it fills them all ... thats the kind of neat trick we expect of apple
(note: im using english, as i know others are saying problems with some other languages)

I'd like to second this suggestion. Vehemently.
When you throw in the "Sort and FIlter" widget (which rocks, thanks!) you're always going to be rearranging the top and bottom row in that particular table. So a SUM(B2:B10) might become a SUM(B4:B5) on a moment's notice. But often, the only reason you're using a range at all is to say "SUM the Whole Column", or SUMIF, or whatever. It would be very nice if anywhere that accepted a RANGE accepted things that can be reasonably interpreted into ranges - like "Column B"... excluding the header, naturally.

Using Table Name reference in formula results in #VALUE error
In Excel 2010, I have an OLE DB connection that brings in data from an SQL query. Excel automatically created the table reference for this (Table1). The table contains headers and Excel knows this; they are formatted in the table as such.
When I try to use a SUMIF function and ask it to sum the column Table1[Column], I get a #VALUE error. I'm assuming because Excel is including the header in the data, which is a text entry. Otherwise, all the other values in the column are numbers.
I'm currently using a defined named range to get round the issue but I'd like to use the table reference instead because as the SQL data grows and shrinks, so does the table range that Excel performs calculations on.Hi DPLMartin,
This should not happen, by default the [column] syntax only refers to the data, not to the header. I expect there is one or perhaps more rows which contain text.
Try selecting the column in question and use F5, Special, constants and only leave the "Text" checkbox checked.

RFC to HTTP Interface - Access using NULL object reference is not possible
Hi All,
I am working on a Interface RFC to HTTP where in I am sending the data to a third party system.
Using PI 7.3 and Adapter type XI to send this data.
I am getitng an error Short dump occured when executing message in qRFC queue <Queuename>: Date/time 02.12.2011 08:44:57, user XXXXX, runtime error: Access using NULL object reference is not possible.
<SAP:Code area="INTERNAL">QRFC_SYSTEM_DUMP</SAP:Code>
I am entering the parameters such as target host,service number,path correctly with addrseing type as URL.
The message is failing in the call adapter step with the above error.
There are no messages stuck in SMQ2 as well.
Now on the other if I use the adapter type HTTP_AAE the messages is getting successfully delivered with the same parameters mentioned above.But as we know it is a plain adapter and will not have the SOAP envelope.
We would want to send the data using the XI adapter.
Any idea as why this issue is happening?
Helpful answers will be rewarded points.
Thanks & Regards,
RKHi,
please go through below threads,

Import Excel file into SQL, using bulk copy - date issues
Hello. I have a VB project where I need to import multiple excel files with lots of rows and columns into SQL 2012. Currently the import is set up, using OleDbConnection and insert commands and it takes up to 10 minutes to process all the spreadsheets.
I'm trying to switch the code to use SQLBulkCopy, but experienced issues with dates columns. Some rows have Null dates and those are interpreted as strings and won't import into SQL tables. Is there a way to format the column prior to import programmatically?
Any advice is appreciated.
Note -
If I add column mapping and exclude all dates columns - import works fine. All excel files have date fields, excel files are reports from other vendor and change on weekly bases, manual formatting of the excel files prior to import are out of the question...
The code is just basic:
Public Sub ImportFormExcelSample()
Dim ExcelConnection As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\MyExcelSpreadsheet.xlsx;Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0 Xml;HDR=Yes""")
ExcelConnection.Open()
Dim expr As String = "SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]"
Dim objCmdSelect As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand(expr, ExcelConnection)
Dim objDR As OleDbDataReader
Dim SQLconn As New SqlConnection()
Dim ConnString As String = "Data Source=MMSQL1;Initial Catalog=DbName; User Id=UserName; Password=password;"
SQLconn.ConnectionString = ConnString
SQLconn.Open()
Using bulkCopy As SqlBulkCopy = New SqlBulkCopy(SQLconn)
bulkCopy.DestinationTableName = "TableToWriteToInSQLSERVER"
Try
objDR = objCmdSelect.ExecuteReader
bulkCopy.WriteToServer(objDR)
objDR.Close()
SQLconn.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.ToString)
End Try
End Using
End Sub
The error I get is System.InvalidOperatiomException: The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type date of the specified target column. System.FormatException: Failed to convert parameter value from String to a DateTime...
Thank you!
Alla SandersHi Alla,
This issue might be caused because the field contains a NULL value, but the date/time columns in your table does not allow NULL values. Furthermore, please aslo take a look at "Data Type Issues" session in the article below:

How do I use a static reference to keep a VI in memory but then call it in parallel?
Hello all,
I have a MainVI and I want to call from it a SubVI in parallel so that I can have both windows open and responsive at the same time. The SubVI may be closed and reopened any number of times, but only one in existance at a time. I know how to do this using Open VI Reference, providing a relative path to my SubVI, checking its state to see if its already running, and if so bring the window to the front (using Front Panel: Open method with True/Standard inputs), and if not run it using the Invoke:Run method (and optionally opening its front panel programmatically). This method was working fine.
Now I have added functional global variables in my SubVI, and I want to keep them in memory inbetween opening the SubVI window. I can do this by putting a copy of the functional global in my MainVI, even though I don't use it there for anything. This works fine.
By accident, I have come across a reference to a Static VI Reference, which sounded like a vast improvement to my methodology, for the following reasons:
1) Keeps SubVI in memory all the time, eliminating the need to put the functional global in MainVI when it is not used there.
2) Tells LabVIEW to include SubVI when I build my executable, rather than me having to specifically mark it as Always Include in the build specification.
3) Eliminates the need to keep the path and SubVI name updated in a string constant in my code, in order to use the Open VI Reference.
However, trying to implement this solution, I have run into the problem that once you put a strictly-typed static VI reference (strict typing is required to keep it in memory) onto the block diagram, that VI is reserved for execution. That means I cannot run it using the Invoke:Run method. I haven't tried just putting it on the diagram directly as a subVI because I need it to run in parallel to the MainVI. I have searched through these forums extensively, and although there are several references to a static VI reference, none of them say explicitly how to actually run the darn thing! :-P
I very much appreciate any insight into my problem. If I have to go back to the old way it will work fine, but I really like the seeming elegance of this solution. I hope that it is technically feasible and I'm not misunderstanding something.
Thank you for your help,
-Joe
Solved!
Go to Solution.> If I understand you correctly, they can only really be used for re-entrant VIs.
No, a static VI reference can be used anywhere a regular VI reference (property nodes etc.) The reason for the hoop-jumping above is that we are really opening a reference to a CLONE (copy) of the VI identified by the static VI reference.
> Okay, I tried it, and got the code shown below... Any idea why it isn't working?
The VI you want to clone can't be on the diagram as a "normal" subVI. When you run your application you should be able to open that VI and see it just sitting there with a run arrow waiting to run. See attached example (LV2009SP1).
"share clones" vs "preallocate" has to do with whether you want each clone to preserve state (such as in an uninitialized shift register). Generally you use share clones. Occasionally it is useful to have multiple copies on a diagram that each remember some data, like "timestamp of last execution" in a shift register.
Other VIs in your spawned process don't have to be re-entrant unless they are functions that "wait forever". All the built-in G functions are re-entrant. It's pretty common to use a queue to feed data to a spawned process.
Spawning a process is more difficult than just running two parallel loops. It's useful because once you've made 1 copy, you can make 50. If you just want to do two things (vs n things) at once, I would just use two loops.

I can't seem to get my iMac (late 2009 model) into automatic sleep mode. If I manually put it into sleep I don't have any issues.
I used to solve the issue by running "PleaseSleep" application but that doesn't work anymore since Lion. I now want to fix the underlying problem.
I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.
Is there anyone who can give me some pointers ?Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.
Good luck! -
Using Open VI Reference to run a VI, on an RT target, with sub-VIs not loaded
I've been using Open VI Reference and Call By Reference Node to remotely run VIs on my RT controller. I
usually wire string data to the vi path input, but this
requires the VI to be in memory. I understand (from LabVIEW help) that I can wire a path to this terminal and specify a VI that is
not in memory, but is on the disk. NI has an example that
confirms my understanding. I get errors when I attempt to do the same
with VIs that have sub-VIs; I suspect that the problem is that
the sub-VIs aren't in memory and that the top-level vi doesn't know where to
look for them (because the paths aren't specified). All of the sub-VIs are on the RT system (in the same directory), they're just not in memory.
Is there a way to get LabVIEW to look for sub-VIs on the disk? I don't want to rely on using a startup application and rebooting to get my VIs into memory.

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are. ~ AliceHi Jim,
It sounds like you are going about calling VIs remotely the correct way. It would be very helpful if you could post the errors you are receiving. I also wanted to know if you saw the note at the bottom of the article that says your VI library must contain everything your top level VI calls.

How to use application class reference in the controller methods of BSP
Hi,
I have created a bsp application and also created an application class and assigned it to the application class. In the application class, I have created attribute TEXT type string(public and instance parameter).
In the controller let's say main.do, I am trying to give a value to to the text by adding the following code.
application->text = 'test'.
I am getting syntax error saying field 'text' is unknown. It is not contained in one of the specified tables nor defined by DATA statement.
Please can someone let me know how to use the application class in the coding with an example. I couldn't find how exactly this has to be reference. Please help.
Best regards
SivaHi,
if you are having main controller and sub-controller then you may need to use below coding to use application class reference.
*Data declaration
DATA: obj_cntrl TYPE REF TO cl_bsp_controller2,
obj_sub_cntrl TYPE REF TO z_cl_sub_cntl,
application TYPE REF TO z_cl_application.
*Get the controller
CALL METHOD obj_main_cntrl->get_controller "obj_main_cntrl is the object of main controller
EXPORTING
controller_id = 'SUB' "Controller ID
RECEIVING
controller_instance = obj_cntrl .
obj_sub_cntrl ?= obj_cntrl .
application ?= obj_sub_cntrl ->application.
or simply use below code in your controller method.
application ?= me->application.

Creation of Delivery Using IDOC without reference to order
Pls suggest is there is any way to create delivery using idoc without reference to order. This is very urgent.
Hi
Design the inbound idoc in such a way that it carries all the essential data needed to create a delivery document namely the material number, no of units to be deilvery, delivering plant, storage location, shipping point, warehouse number(if applicable) etc.
Pass all these details to the function module RV_DELIVERY_CREATE while creating delivery in VL01N and pass the document type as LO which is delivery document without reference to order.
But it is advised to have atleast a pseudo order with which we have to create the delivery document.
Pls reward points. -
Currently have 30K pics on PC Win. 7 laptop using PSE 8, corrected issues and did full backup on portable hard drive plus saved (Extensive) Keyword tags to file. Installed PSE 13 on PC Win 8.1 laptop. Will attach same portable Hard drive to new laptop. How do I import prev Keyword Tags from file and Restore catalog from port. HD to new PC and in what order? I have not opened PSE 13 on new PC yet. Would like to do it right the first time!
No importing needed.

Error : Access not possible using "null" objects reference
Hello.
i am working with a zbapi.
i called a external email program in this bapi,everything is working fine over here.
In webdynpro java they mapped my bapi and starting working from there.
every functionality is working fine but regarding this email stuff it is showing an error as access not possible using null objects reference.
where could be the possible error.
is it in webdynpro or in abap side.Raghu,
You are right. When it comes from the WD Java, may be you are not passing any value at all. You can trace it by these ways.
1. Check it using SE37, make sure everyhting is fine.
2. Print all the values that you are passing to the RFC in the execute RFC method().
3. using ST05 transaction in R/3, enable RFC and SQL trace, check what is passing in between web dynpro and R/3.
Moreover paste your error message here.
Thanks,
Raj. -
Problems consuming a MII web service using 'Add Service Reference' in Visual Studio
I can generate a client proxy when I use 'Add Web Reference' in visual studio, but when I try to use 'Add Service Reference', I get an empty stub. We have a product that generates web service client proxy code in a manner similar to that used by the Microsoft 'Add Service Reference' code. We are usually able to consume ASMX web services as well, but currently are unable to consume the SAP MII web service. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Didi,
I can successfully add a Service Reference and execute an MII transaction with input and output parameters through the Service Reference. This is using MII14 SP5 latest patch, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 in C#.
Which version of MII, and which version of VS?
Can you paste the MII url into a browser and get it to return the WSDL?

Using an external reference clock for counter measurements
Hi all,
I have several PXI chassis
configured for testing, each of which uses an NI-DAQ-6221 for
conducting period and frequency measurements among other things.
However each of my setups give me a slightly different reading when conducting identical measurements due to
the tolerance of the DAQ on board reference
clocks.
The chassis' have a 10MHz GPS calibrated reference fed into them via the reference input and this is connected to the backplane. I have tried and failed to try to route and use this as my reference
base for my counter measurements so that each of my cards will give me
the same reading every time. I have tried the routing method using the
DAQ connect terminals vi but could not get this to work. I have looked through the labview examples and cant find anything thta shows me what i need to do to take frequency and period measurments using my external reference as my base clock. There are some examples showing the use of the DAQmx timing vi set to sample clock mode which allows a clock source to be selected. However these examples are only for counting digital events and when i apply the same vi to a frequency or period measurement an error is thrown saying 'invalid timing type for this channel', 'you can select: implicit, on demand'.
I do not
understand the working of the DAQ hardware very well so was hoping
someone could help explain to me how to do this if it is even possible
or give me any guidance as to how else to overcome my problem. Any vis
showing how to use my external 10MHz reference
as the base clock for these kind of measurements would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
DanHi Dan,
Thanks for the reply. When trying to use the connect terminals i just tried connecting the PXI10 to the onboard clock in the hope that this would configure it to use the PXI10 signal to synchronise the onboard clocks via the PLL. Doing this didn't throw any errors as i recall, it just gave me a reading of infinity as it couldn't measure the signal.
I have actually just managed to successfully do what i wanted thanks to help from Rob at NI tech support UK. There is a DAQmx timing property node which allows you to choose a reference clock source. By using the PXI_Clk10 signal this makes the DAQ synchronise its reference clocks to this signal. I have included an image of the code i used to achieve this to take period measurements.
Here is a very useful link which Rob sent me which may be of help to anyone else with similar problems

Dan.
