Using IF function to look in two cells

I am building a time sheet in Numbers where column D calculates the total time elapsed from the start time in column B to the end time in column C. Column D contains a simple formula that subtracts B from C. .
Cell D4 has a simple formula that subtracts the start time from the end time (C4-B4).
This works but when there are no values in columns B or C, column D displays zero, as in D5.
In cell D6, I have created the following formula using the IF function : IF(B6="","",C6−B6)
This formula looks in cell B6. If B6 is empty, cell D6 will display nothing.
My question: How do I build a formula that will look in B6 and C6? If either one in empty, D6 will display nothing. In other words, D6 would display results only if both cells contain values.

Hi Verseau,
This is one approach.

• Using "calc' function to show if the cell is editable(EVDRE Reports)

Hello All,
I have a question regarding using the "calc' property in my dimension 'ACCOUNT' in a EvDRE report to display the rows as calculated or input ready cells. I have developed an input template by opening a blank workbook and typing in EVDRE(). I have listed ACCOUNT to be in the rows and Time in the columns. I have listed the memberset to be members in the ACCOUNT and SELF, DEP in the Time dimension. Whenever I expand the EVDRE, I always get the cells to be 'yellow' in color similiar to the calc format. How do I differentiate between the Calculated cell and the input cell. I was thinking to use the CALC functionality similiar to the reports/input schedules written using EVGTS/EVSND functions.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi bpc4livin,
Take note that even though you have specified the base members as memberset in your EVDRE, still you must have base level members in your Current View in the Action pane. Remember that each data cells in an EVDRE template is an intersection of the dimension in your rows and columns plus the rest of the dimensions in your application which would come in your current view if you don't define them as memberset. So as long as there is one calculated member in your current view still the cell would be marked as calculated.
You can use EVDRE's format range to format a scpecific cell or group of cells. To activate this after you typed the EVDRE and refresh the sheet, you must check the allow formatting option in the EVDRE builder that appears. I think that there is already a default format in the format range that says that if a data cell is calculated it would be colored yellow. So if you want further knowldege on how to use the format range, you could see the Using Reports Help in the See Also section of the action pane of the BPC Excel.
Hope this helps,
MVS

• Adding two cells using the Offset function

Hi There, I would like to use the Offset function to add the value of the cell just to the left of the current cell to the one dirrectly above the current cell. I would also like to do this without using an absolute referance for the base cell
For example the normal SUM formula would be =SUM(A2+B1) with the base cell being B2
Hope that's clear enough, thanks in advance
Ali

Ali,
Before answering your question, I'll comment that adding the value to the left to the value just above, with cell B2 being where the result would be displayed would normally be programmed as:
=A2 + B1
The use of the SUM function is completely unnecessary. It won't hurt, but there is no reason to use SUM.
Using OFFSET, you would write:
=OFFSET(B2, 0, -1) + OFFSET(B2, -1, 0)
In this case, B2 is a relative reference, not an absolute reference.

I have a photo of an ice surface and another of a flower. Now I want to create a merged photo with the flower lying under the ice. I understand that I shall use the function "Layer" and have even read in the manual and looked on a video, but that information is not sufficiently detailed for me. I have tried several options, but I come now way. Generally it seems that your information is only for the ones who can, not for the people who can´t although it is we who really need to learn. Please give me a step by step (click by click) information on how I can get the ice above the flower and then make the ice partly transparent so the flower is seen underneath. Please send me an e-mail Erik Solbu [email protected]

Open a new document big enough for your image. Then additional open your ice and flower image as well. Copy each and paste it into your blank document. They will be placed on their own separate layers.
Make sure in your layers panel. (Bottom right) the ice is above the flower, by dragging it in place. In that same layers panel click the ice layer to select in and find the opacity meter above. Drag to the left until you get the effect you desire.

• Impossible to use SAPGETDATA function from an intermediary level of a hierarchy with a cell reference.

Hi Gurus,
It is impossible to use SAPGETDATA function from an intermediary level
of a hierarchy with a cell reference.
When I open completely a hierarchy node I manage to get the bottom level
using a cell reference.
But I cannot do the same thing from a level above.
I attach screenshots.

• How to swap two primitive dataelements using swap function??

How to write a swap function that can swap two integer..??

Now we are getting somewhere. Next time you post code, use the code tags!! See Formatting Tips or just select the code and click the Code button.
you cant swap i,j using the above code...You're right. You can't do that.
so how to do that??The ints must be within some object, like I showed you
You cannot swap the values of two arguments to a method and expect the caller's variables be swapped because Java passes arguments by value not reference. There is no such thing as a pointer to a variable in Java as there is in C/C++.

Hi guys,
Installation of Adobe Reader XI using customization tool but looking to put two check marks in the signature bottom two options
called Validating Signatures and Validating Certified Documents.
Can't find it in the customization tool and don't want to change this on 650 workstations.
If I could change a registry key or change it in the installation it would help alot.
Thanks for your help!!!

I am posting this reply AGAIN
My first reply was empty because i responded to the email I received saying this thread (is that the right terminology?) was updated. Obviously that email didn't get added, just a blank line....
Then I replied to this thread directly on Friday and that seems to have disappeared. Maybe I just don't know how to use a computer? Better sell the technology company I own LOL.
Ok so it seems the screen is normal, (not maximized). When I unlock and drop my start bar to one row, then the top of the screen pops down to inside my visible monitor space and it is not maximized. This allows me to drag it to another monitor and then maximize it there, then put my start bar back and relock it. This is the only way I can move the window, if I don't shrink my start bar, then I have zero access to the top bars of the document!
Currently I can not reproduce the problem ( I might have temporarily fixed it with my start bar reducing and then moving documents), so maybe it is permanently fixed....
Maybe a reboot will bring the problem back... It has been intermittent for about 6 months.

• Using hsgetvalue function to retrieve Hyperion Planning Data

Hi All,
Lots of discussion about hsgetvalue, but still I do not succeed in using this function. Maybe someone can help.
Is this function work for HFM or also Hyperion Planning? Currently we are using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 with related Essbase. This is what we've tried in Excel:
=hsgetvalue(“";”Scenario#BudFin;Year#FY12;Period#Begbalance;Partner#NA_Partner;Product#A251;Account#BOM Weight;Version#Working;Misc#R-SBDA;Entity#No Entity;Currency#Qty") ===> the result is syntax error.
=hsgetvalue("","Scenario#BudFin","Year#FY12","Period#Begbalance","Partner#NA_partner","Product#A251","Account#BOM Weight","Version#Working","Entity#No Entity","Currency#Qty","Misc#R-SBDA") ===> the result is No Connection.
Actually I'm still confused about the Connection parameter, which connection name we have to use?
Thanks.
Gajah

Hi,
HsGetValue
Data sources: Financial Management, Hyperion Enterprise, Essbase
HsGetValue retrieves data from the data source for selected members of a dimension. When HsGetValue retrieves no data, the value specified for the #NoData/Missing Label replacement option is used.
When users select Refresh or Refresh All, only HsGetValue is called. When users select Submit, HsSetValue is called first, HsGetValue is then called only if HsSetValue returns successfully.
Syntax
HsGetValue(“Connection”,”POV”)
Connection parameters can have these values:
Empty: the default connection
HsActive: the active associated connection
The user-defined name for a private connection
You connect to data sources through shared or private connections.
_# Shared Connections_
Shared connections are stored in a central location and are available to multiple users through the Smart View Panel. You cannot add, edit, or rename shared connections, but you can save them as private connections, which you can edit and rename.
_# Private Connections_
Private connections are those that you create by saving a shared connection to your local computer or by entering a URL to a provider that is not configured for shared connections. When you create a private connection, it becomes the active connection.
Creating Private Connections
You can create a private connection from a connection that is not listed in Shared Connections if you know the URL.
To add a connection using a URL:
1. From the Smart View ribbon, click Panel.
2. From the Smart View panel, click the arrow next to "Home" Icon, and then select Private Connections.
3. In the text box, enter the URL or the local storage directory for the data source to which you want to connect. The URL syntax for the various data sources is as follows.
Financial Management: http(s)://servername:port/hfmofficeprovider/hfmofficeprovider.aspx
Hyperion Enterprise: http://servername:port/heofficeprovider/heofficeprovider.aspx
Planning: http(s)://servername:port/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
Essbase: http(s)://servername:port/aps/SmartView
Reporting and Analysis: http(s)://servername:port/raframework/browse/listxml
Financial Close Management: http://servername:port/fcc/servlets/smartview/fcmsvservlet
Oracle Hyperion Strategic Finance: http://servername:port/StrategicPlanning/SmartView
4. Click Next Button
5. Enter the Name of the connect as "Essbase_Conn"
6. Enter username, password and connect the worksheet.
Now you can create functions by two methods -
1. Using Function Builder
2. Manually (Which you have opted)
To create a function manually:*
1. In Excel, click the cell in which you want to enter the function.
2. Enter = (equal sign).
3. Enter the function name, HsGetValue, for example.
4 Enter parameters for the function,
HsGetValue(“Connection”,”POV”)
Connection parameters can have these values:
# Empty: the default connection
# HsActive: the active associated connection
# The user-defined name for a private connection
so the function looks like this:
HsGetValue(“Essbase_Conn”;"Year#Jan;Measures#Sales;Product#100;Market#East;Scenario#Actual")
5. To refresh the worksheet, from the Smart View menu, select Refresh. Functions are validated only when you refresh them.

• Trouble using ISBLANK Function

I am trying to calculate the days outstanding for payments.
Checked to see if an invoice date was entered (A)
If A had date entered I wanted to run various calculations on the dates.
What I started off with was:
IF(A = “*”, (Run Days to Payment Calculation), (Run Days Outstanding Calculation))
I thought that I could use the Asterix wildcard to determine if A2 was blank. But, that failed. I was looking at the ISBLANK function but did not see how to make that work.
FYI: Here is what I had planned for the other two calculations that are to be nested in the IF statement.
Days to Payment:
=DATEDIF(A, G2, “D”)
(G2=Payment Date)
Days Outstanding:
=DATEDIF(A, (NOW()), “D”)

What let you think that the asterisk behaves as a wildcard ?
The use of Functions is described (what a surprise) in "*iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide*" which every user may download thru the Help menu.
Here is a quick and dirty example.
=IF(ISBLANK(A),"the cell in column A is empty","the cell in column A is filled")

• When using Live View, site looks great, browser testing goes crazy

I am creating a new website (and I am really unexperienced with Dreamwaver CS5). But when I check my site using "Live View" everything looks great, the way it is supposed to. Then when I go to test it in my browswer (Primary browser is Chrome) it goes crazy: I at first noticed that I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml I did delete the first line of code already that the .asp file created as it kept giving me an error on line 1.
Then I tried to do a spry drop-down menu bar, which I have deleted since I thought I was doing something wrong with that and I should just stick to what I half-way know.
If I were to preview the template page it gives me this error:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 150 at column 76: error parsing attribute name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Here is line 150:
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
If I were to test the index.xhtml page in the browser, it ignores most images (all but one), and the first nav-bar (an editable region) appears to the left instead of under the header. The layout is totally ignored and everything is on the left-hand side of the screen instead of in a two column layout.
I am not testing this on a server just off of my computer.
I am assuming that the error has something to do with the .asp file I first did and when I resaved it, since I don't know what I would be looking for, is still in there screwing it up.
Here is the code from the template page:

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.
.sidebar1 {
float: right;
width: 300px;
background: #ffffff;

/* ~~ The navigation list styles (can be removed if you choose to use a premade flyout menu like Spry) ~~ */

Instructions

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the fixed layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts.

Clearing Method

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the .footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the .footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Logo Replacement

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

Backgrounds

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.

• How to use percentage functions in BEx with structures

Hi, I need a help.
I have a query with a structure in the rows: two characteristics at left then the structure.
Plant, Year/Month and a structure with 3 lines (Line A = movement type = 1, 2, 3, Line B types 4, 5, 6, Line C types 7, 8, 9).
In the rows just a quantity.
I'm trying to use percentage functions CT or GT in the rows, but it's not working.
The idea is something like:
Plant 01 07/2010 Line A 30 30%
Line B 20 20%
Line C 50 50%
Result 33%
08/2010 Line A 40 20%
Line B 60 30%
Line C 100 50%
Result 66%.
When I do not use the structure percentage function works well, but with the structure results are completely wrong.
Any help will be appreciated.
César Menezes

You either have to use exception aggregation to give you the total per plant and use that in your percentage calculation, or you could define a formula in the cells. Here you can reference the specific cells you want to use as inputs.

How can i do it with other method?
Thanks in advance

Okay, say the above is my table, how do I compare two cells in a row for two numbers? Say I wanted to find out if row A2 contained a 7 and a 28?
"A2" is an address for a single cell, not a row. Its current content, assuming no empty rows above or empty columns left of what's shown, is "Jan 4, 2011". Perhaps you mean Row 2, or the range B2:G2.
Assuming that you want to know 'if' (or 'how many times') two specific numbers occur in the range of cells from column B to column G in a single row, COUNTIF is the function you want.
Place the two target numbers into cell I1 and J1.
Enter the formula below into I2:
=COUNTIF($B2:$G2,I$1)
Fill the formula right into J2, then fill both down to row 4.
You'll get a count of the occurrences of each number.
If you want only a "Yes" (both numbers appear in the range) or "No" (neither of the numbers appear, or one appears but not the other), use this variation (in I2 or J2):
=IF(AND(COUNTIF($B2:$G2,I$1)>0,COUNTIF($B2:$G2,J$1)>0),"Yes","No")

• Problem while Sending data concurrently using Evsnd function.

Hi All,
i am trying to send data from input schudule using evsnd function.
As per a test scenerio.
User 1: one user( cantains all bas members) , opens the input schudule , waits for and hour and do planning for few basmemebers and then submit the data.
User 2:another user ( subset of all base members) ,opens input schudule ,do planning and submits the data.
Now when user 1 Sumits the data , it overwrites the value of user 2.
is there is any way by which we can restrict user 1 of sending those value only that he/she changed.
Edited by: Tapeshwar Singh Bagal on Mar 11, 2009 11:02 AM

First, I'd strongly encourage you to use EVDRE instead of EVSND, as it gives a lot better control over many aspects of the input schedule.
As to your point, EVDRE definitely will only send back to the server the cells which have changed. It's been a few releases since I used EVSND (and its behavior may have changed some in the meantime), but if I recall correctly, it also does some of this same checking.
Another option to consider is to make the input schedule smaller (fewer accounts or entities or products or whatever your dimensions), and split it into two pieces, one for each of the business processes that the 2 users are performing.
If the 2 users are maintaining the same intersection of data, and performing the same business process (acting as a team, for example) then BPC has limited ability to support "checking out for edit" or locking the data for one user, in a way that prevents another user from changing it. The "park n go" feature does this in a way, but it's something that the user needs to do intentionally. That doesn't sound like your User 1 scenario of waiting for an hour before submitting -- probably when they opened it up, they thought it would only take 2 minutes, but then the phone rang, and then an email.... and then finally they finish it an hour or 8 later.

• Restrict Query Resultset which uses Analytic Function

Gents,
Problem Definition: Using Analytic Function, get Total sales for the Product P1
and Customer C1 [Total sales for the customer itself] in one line.
I want to restrict the ResultSet of the query to Product P1,
please look at the data below, queries and problems..
Data
Customer Product Qtr Sales
C1 P1 19991 100.00
C1 P1 19992 125.00
C1 P1 19993 175.00
C1 P1 19994 300.00
C1 P2 19991 100.00
C1 P2 19992 125.00
C1 P2 19993 175.00
C1 P2 19994 300.00
C2 P1 19991 100.00
C2 P1 19992 125.00
C2 P1 19993 175.00
C2 P1 19994 300.00
Problem, I want to display....
Customer Product ProdSales CustSales
C1 P1 700 1400
But Without using outer query, i.e. please look below for the query that
returns this reult with two select, I want this result in one query only..
Select * From ----*** want to avoid this... ***----
(Select Customer,Product,
Sum(Sales) ProdSales,
Sum(Sum(Sales)) Over(Partition By Customer) CustSales
From t1
Where customer='C1')
Where
Product='P1' ;
Also, I want to avoid Hard coding of P1 in the select clause....
I mean, I can do it in one shot/select, but look at the query below, it uses
P1 in the select clause, which is No No!! P1 is allowed only in Where or Having ..
Select Customer,Decode(Product, 'P1','P1','P1') Product,
Decode(Product,'P1',Sales,0) ProdSales,
Sum(Sum(Sales)) Over (Partition By Customer ) CustSales
From t1
Where customer='C1' ;
This will get me what I want, but as I said earlier, I want to avoid using P1 in the
Select clause..
Goal is to Avoid using
1-> Two Select/Outer Query/In Line Views
2-> Product 'P1' in the Select clause...
Thanks
