Using internet connect menu extra in script
Inspired by this post I was wondering if there was a similiar possibility for the internet connect menu extra. Something like:
tell application "System Events" to tell the front menu bar of process "SystemUIServer"
set menu_extras to value of attribute "AXDescription" of menu bar items
repeat with x from 1 to the length of menu_extras
if item x of menu_extras is "internet connect menu extra" then exit repeat
end repeat
tell menu bar item x
click
click 2nd menu item of front menu
end tell
end tell
This doesn't work as the "internet connect menu extra" bit isn't correct.
PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Thats very sweet. I was also wondering if there was a logical test I could use to check if bluetooth power was on or off, and also if the modem was connected.

Remove 802.1X icon from Internet Connect menu?
Is it possible to remove the 802.1X icon from the Internet Connect menu?
When you open Internet Connect, you will have a window with couple icons on the top: Summary, Bluetooth, Airport, VPM, etc. Is it possible to remove the icon 802.1X?
I've tried command drag it, which does make it disappear, but when you quit Internet Connect and opens it again, that icon will re-appear.
Does anyone know the trick to remove this icon?Hi Kuo,
This icon doesn't show up at all on either of my macs. Further, I don't seem to be able to add or remove any of the icons that appear in Internet Connect.
It sounds like it might be something added by third-party hardware or software. I say that because 802.1x is the same connection protocol used by Airport. The only difference is that Airport is an Apple trademark. Do you use a third-party wireless card? Or have you done so in the past? -
Unable to use Internet Connect with my new wireless device
I just received a new wireless device for my macbook pro. Normally I sign on with Internet Connect, but after setting up the new card, I can only connect using Verizon Manager, which usually doesn't give me good connection, I don't know why.
I called the Verizon people, they mostly are clueless as to how I was able to sign on using both Internet Connect and Verizon Manager before with my old card. I remember there's a way of setting up manually if you want to use Internet Connect. Problem is, when I went to Systems Preferences and clicked on Network, a pop up prompt saying "your network setting have been changed by another application" keeps popping up even as I keep closing it. ***?!!! How can I get rid of it so I can change network setting manually?
I just want the option of connecting with Internet Connect with my new wireless device. BTW, when I try connecting with it using my old setting National access/ Broadband access , I get a message saying "the selected communication device does not exist"."I just received a new wireless device"
If not from Verizon, then who? Did it come w/a manual? If not, have you contacted the vendor/manufacturer for instructions?

Connecting Two PC using internet connection ??
Hi,
I want to develop one software so that I can connect two PC using internet connection means one is host and another is remote.So that I can access remote PC's Hard drive using internet connction.Can any one plz give me some guideline how I can start.Eagerly waiting for someone reply.
Thanks & Regards
BikashThis is not what you have in mind, but it will work.
Create a server that listens for connections from a client. Create a list of commands that can be issued by client to view information. Such a list in your case would be similar to the following:
Open
ChageDir
Rename
CreateDir
DeleteDir
ListDir
Next, you need to implement the processes that will actually do the command on the remote computer. When the client issues the "ListDir" command, then adds a line (the path of the directory to list) the server should then do this (vary simple, but you get the idea):
File file = new File(theDirectory);
if (file.isDirectory()) {
String[] list = file.list();
socketOutputStream.println("Directory " + theDirectory);
for (int i=0; i<list.length;i++) {
socketOutputStream.println(list);
socketOutputStream.flush();
So, you should get the idea from this. For each command, have a method to handle the actual work on the server-side, then have the server send the resulting data back to the client for display. Notice how much this looks like DOS. It's the same idea - a command line interface (called a CLI). -
Help Menu Quits when using Internet Connect
When a new user account (with admin. priveleges) is opened, the help menu functions perfectly. After connecting to the Internet (modem) the help menu will not function. (can't get any response on any underlines or ? window). I've tried the file deletions suggested in theXlab document, checked the internet connection using "ping' report with no luck. No 3rd party add-ons. I can use any program and return to help and it is operable, until I connect to the internet.
To again get to help, I must create a new user account. This restores the help for tryouts until invoking internet connect. Using OSX 10.4.5. Any suggestions. Apple phone support is referring this to some tech support person.
Am I alone with this problem???Hi John,

Dial up using Internet Connect causes Kernel_task to use 30% CPU
This CPU hog only started after I installed the update to go to 10.4.8
I didn't have this problem before the update.
CPU usage is quiet before I connect to the internet and after I disconnect.
I have run the Apple hardware test with no failures.
This seriously impacts on my internet browsing by bringing everything to a crawl. My workaround is to use another computer to connect then share its connection. Then the mac experiences no slow down.ppp2235:/System/Library/StartupItems poota$ ls

Cannot find Internet Connect Icon
I am using Leopard 10.5.4.
I want to setup a VPN connection and found an article which describes how to go about setting the VPN connection. But it uses Internet Connect icon and according to the article it is found in the 'Applications' folder. I cannot find the 'Internet Connect' icon in Applications.
Please can someone help ?
ZappInternet Connect has (thankfully) been removed from Leopard. You can now set up a VPN with the Network Preferences. Click on the + icon below the list of network services to get a window with popup menu that has VPN as one of the interface choices.

Install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without internet connection
I have successfully install a first instance of Arch Linux using Arch Linux ISO + pacstrap + pacman with internet connection.
I have updated to latest package database list (/var/lib/pacman/sync) and package cache files (/var/cache/pacman/pkg) in first instance of Arch Linux with "pacman -Swyu".
Next, I would like to install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without using internet connection.
I share the "/var/lib/pacman/sync" and "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" via NFS from first Arch Linux instance.
I boot the 2nd instance with Arch Linux ISO and attempt to install without internet connection. I mount the two NFS shares from 1st instance to "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" and "/mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync" respectively. I execute
# pacstrap -i -c /mnt"
to start installation.
I found it is almost impossible with current implementation of pacstrap script. The pacstrap script always attempt to update package database list with -Sy option.
I think some amendments on pacstrap script is needed to install Arch Linux without internet connection.I made the edit by adding the option -o to do what you want.
I am too lazy for a feature request right now...
#!/bin/bash
# Assumptions:
# 1) User has partitioned, formatted, and mounted partitions on /mnt
# 2) Network is functional
# 3) Arguments passed to the script are valid pacman targets
# 4) A valid mirror appears in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Need Internet Connect Application
Due to a confusion I won't bother explaining here (first because I'm embarrased and second because it's boring) I deleted my Internet Connect application from my Applications folder and now I can't connect to the internet with Airport. Is there anyway I can download it from the Apple site? I've looked it up and apparently it's not available...
Am I done for?miguel, Welcome to the discussion area!
I have never used Internet Connect to log in. Just go to the AirPort menu and select the network name.
Or if your network isn't broadcasting the name, go to the AirPort menu, select "Other...", enter the network name and password. -
Internet Connection through 90% of applications NOT working :(
So recently alot of my internet applications have stopped working. I use airport. My internet is connected to my computer and I know this because firefox, ventrilo, and video games such as warcraft 3 work using internet connection and my network preferences says that I have an IP and full bars. So the internet applications that don't work are safari, itunes store, my sophos updates, my software update (I am missing like 6 months worth of updates), etc. When I try to use the internet with these applications it will just say to check my internet connection or that I am not connected to the internet. I thought maybe it was a virus even though I have not known anyone I know that has a mac to ever have had a virus yet. So I went out and bought norton anti-virus and it scanned my computer and found zero viruses. So my question is, does anyone know what is wrong with my computer or how on earth I can fix it? I don't know how to wipe the harddrive so if that's what needs to be done please instruct me to a page that shows me how or just tell me. Also my macbook is about 4 years old and the version, I believe, is 10.5.6? Sorry, I'm not on my macbook right now so I'm not exactly sure as to the current version but it should be around there. Thanks in advance for any help you guys offer!
HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
Sorry to tell you this but Norton anti virus software can actualy damage a hard drive.

There are no Mac viruses in the wild... it's not a virus.
Before you erase the hard disk and reinstall the Mac OS X, run Disk Utility from your install disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If the hard disk appears to be ok and there's plenty of free disk space then do the Erase and Install, instructions here...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1544
Make sure and back up all important data BEFORE doing this.
If you are running Leopard, the most recent version is 10.5.8.

how do i set up iPad and airport express to stream music to stereo without using internet connection.
Your 4th gen iPad does have the necessary software to connect to the AirPort Express but not to administer it. To do the later, you would need to install the AirPort Utility applet.
You said that your iPad can "see" the AirPort's wireless network, but can't connect. What happens exactly when you attempt to do so? Do any of your other wireless devices have any trouble connecting to the Express? Did you configure the Express for a closed network ... that is, not to broadcast its Network Name?
