Using iPhoto for a specific PP task - will it cause any issues?

Since I've started shooting in RAW, I haven't really used iPhoto that much.
My current process is to import using Bridge, open images in Adobe Camera Raw to edit and crop, and then open in PS Elements 6 to do final editing.
However I don't like the crop feature in ACR... And I'm thinking of using iPhoto for cropping.
Here is how I envision the process -
1. Import via bridge
2. Open and edit in ACR but do not crop
3. Open and edit in PSE6 and save as PSD
4. Run batch process in PSE6 to convert PSDs to JPGs
5. Import JPGs into iPhoto and crop
6. Export JPGs as current settings.
The only issue that I think I will have is that iPhoto will convert the images to 72dpi and so I will need to add one more batch step to convert from 72dpi to 240 or 300 dpi.
Are there any issues with this process change?
Will the extra steps degrade the JPGs in any way?
Thanks!

1. Import via bridge
2. Open and edit in ACR but do not crop
3. Open and edit in PSE6 and save as PSD
4. Run batch process in PSE6 to convert PSDs to JPGs
I’m not sure you’ll need this step as iPhoto will work with almost all PSDs. A little trial and error will confirm.
5. Import JPGs into iPhoto and crop
6. Export JPGs as current settings.
Assuming you imported as PSD then you can export as ‘Kind: JPEG’ and specify the exported dimensions, thereby avoiding your final batch conversion to 300 dpi. (Although this conversion is pretty pointless until you actually go to print a file.)
A general comment:
It’s a lot of effort to get a crop. Can’t you crop in Elements? Or - if not in Elements - there are lots of little editors out there with no database element that will crop. Even Preview will do this.

Have anyone tried purchasing in US and using it in India?

You shouldn't have any problems recharging if you have the correct recepticle conversion plug for the AC adapter you purchase in the US. I've used and charged my IPOD touch 3G in US, UK, China, Israel, Australia, Greece, Hungary, Czech Republic and several other countries including ships.

You need to reinstall iPhoto.  To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the:
    HD/Library/Receipts folder (10.5 and earlier)
    or from the /var/db/receipts/  folder (10.6) .
or from the /private/var/db/receipts folder (10.7 or later)
Then install iPhoto from the source it came from originally.

  • Using iPhoto for organizing digi scrapbook supplies

I have successfully figured out how to use iPhoto for the above except in one instance. Many digi kits have some elements to use in creating the scrapbook page in Photoshop Elements 6 in png format. It appears in the kit as black on white background so you can see it. But in iPhoto it is just one black box. It doesn't matter if I select the background as black or white. Any ideas how I can put these in and be able to see what they are. Hard to pick something if you don't know what it is.

    Janet:
Those files either are grayscale mode images or have an alpha channel both of which iPhoto doesn't support. Export those file out of iPhoto, and use an image editor to convert them to the RGB color mode or remove the alpha channel. It's more likely they are greyscale.
Maybe an easier way to convert from grayscale to RGB would be to use my Automator workflow Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile.app to covert them. Just drag the problem files onto the application and they will be converted. You can download it from  Toad's Cellar, 2nd from top.

Nope, GPS is a Federal requirement for anything operating a cellular telephone signal.  You don't ever plan to call 911 until you are in an emergency.  I don't see that requirement changing any time soon.
If you are truly inconvenienced by the VZW network extender then perhaps you should disable you calling features in these areas and swap over to WiFi only.  There are many services and apps out there that can route your phone services through internet service providers.

When iam using jdownloader for dowload, the firefox did not work at any page, as like`` there in no internet conexion?``

you need to check whether '''jdownloader''' is compatible with the Firefox version you are using.
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extension section -> check the Status of '''jdownloader''' extension -> if '''an update''' is available for this add-on then install the update -> Restart Firefox and check again check the compatibility -> if it is '''GREYED with Exclamation mark''' then it is incompatible with Firefox
Try using this extension to force compatibility.

  • If i purchase an iphone6 directly from Apple and take to my carrier, Verizon, will I have any issues?

if i purchase an iphone6 directly from Apple and take to my carrier, Verizon, will I have any issues?

Yes. Not because of the phone, but because Verizon will only activate iPhones sold specifically for use on Verizon's network. You can buy the phone from Apple or from Verizon, but you must buy a Verizon-designated phone. And if you buy it from Apple there's no need to visit Verizon, as Apple can activate it on your Verizon account.

  • I have a MacBook 5,1 (13.3" aluminum from 2007 or 2008). Automatic updates will only let me get to OSX 10.5.8.  Can I upgrade to Snow Leopard, Lion 10.6 or even 10.6.8?  Also, will I have any issues with my iPhone if it's updated to iOS 7.1?

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.8 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Public Sector: Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?

    Hello,
We are using Siebel Public Sector application (Case Management) in our product.
Every contact who is Primary under a Contact will be associated to a Master Case. If there is no master case associated with primary contact, siebel will create a new master case. In other words, Contact to Master Case is 1:1 relationship.
We are in the process of developing a new requirement where in a Contact can be linked to one or more Master Cases (1:M). Since this is deviates Siebel OOB feature we do not want to change it.
Instead, we have created a new custom stand-alone Table (which mimics OOB Master Case columns) and a "New Custom BC".
Created a link betwen Contact BC and New Custom BC (Id -> Par Row Id).
In "New Custom BC", field called "Master Case Number"  has a dynamic picklist based on OOB "PUB Master Case" BC.
For other field we have mapped using pickmaps.
Our requirement is met but our only question is "Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?"
Quick responses will be very helpful.

Thank you for your reply.  I only see three versions of Adobe Reader available for Windows XP SP3 at the Adobe site
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions
In doing some research, it seems there were some issues if you skipped an update but I did not find any information (only other queries) as to my original question of compatibility.  Also, how can we access the older file if it won't open in 10.1.2?
Can I load 10.1.2 in addition to their older version to check and see what will or will not open correctly before I uninstall the older version?  I don't want to load the new version and then have them not be able to access a needed file...

  • I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel?

I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel? Is Parallel in fact the best way to go?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Best Way to Use iPhoto for Lectures?

The old utility "iphotowebshare" turns itself off frequently under Mavericks, so I'm forced to look for a better way to do what once worked perfectly.
    Here's my situation:
I've got a few hundred images in an iPhoto library that I have been using for class lectures.  These images are sorted into nice, discrete albums, each of which is named for a specific day's lecture.  Everything's so well organized in iPhoto, that the thought of moving everything somewhere else makes me cranky.
    Here's what used to work:
Running in the background (accessed via System Preferences), "iphotowebshare" makes all these albums available via web interface.  I don't have to export the images.  I don't have to remember to click the right buttons to sync different applications.  I don't have multiple versions of my images floating around in different places.
The only thing I've had to worry about is iPhoto.  I can reorganize, retitle, re-order, annotate, and otherwise mess with my iPhoto images right up to the second that I'm supposed to be in class.  Then I can walk away from my office and expect to find my images available in my classroom, just as I've most recently assembled them in iPhoto.
"iphotowebshare" seems simply to make my iPhoto Library—as it is, and as it changes—available to a simple web page (that "iphotowebshare" itself builds and makes available on port 8080).
Only problem, now, as I've mentioned, is that the "iphotowebshare" System Preference keeps turning itself off.
So, reluctantly, I have to adopt a new method, and a couple of hours with Google has not turned up an alternative that does what "iphotowebshare" has been doing so nicely for years.
I spent thirty minutes or so messing with the iPhoto-Flickr sync, but found that iPhoto is creating new, duplicate "synced" albums beside the albums I've already created.  Syncing between iPhoto and Flickr requires deliberate button clicking (I know: First World Problems. But I'm confident that I will forget to click the sync and then will find myself in class with an obsolete arrangement of images).
    Any advice?  Simpler the better.

I'm aware that iphotowebshare is problematic and un-updated.  That is, in fact, the problem.  Because with iphotowebshare, iPhoto works perfectly well as a presentation tool in my circumstances.
Because my circumstances haven't changed, even if software has, what I'm trying to find is something that does what iphotowebshare does (without intermittently shutting off) or that duplicates the same functionality (which is, basically, to put my iPhoto library on the web, live, without bothering me).
A secondary app will require deliberate second and third steps, not to mention some extra care about how these images get made available online.
Besides iPhoto is a "presentation tool" to the extent that it's designed to "present" one's images (via slide shows [with a soundtrack, no less] and printed books, if nothing else).  So, I'm pretty sure I'm not asking for an apple to be an orange, so to speak.  Especially since iphotowebshare has demonstrated iPhoto's functionality in this respect.

  • Have been using iPhoto for weeks and had it open just an hour ago and when I tried to open again I got a message that I had to upgrade in or to see my library??? after trying to upgrade still getting message. What the heck is going on

Cannot open iphoto library, getting a message staing I have to upgrade to see my library which I have done four times with no results.  I just had iphoto opened an hour before without a problem and have been using it for weeks before today.  Any ideas as to what is going on?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    Happy New Year
