Using Java 1.5 with TopLink Mapping Workbench 10g(9.0.4.9) - Exception

We're getting a ExternalClassNotFoundException when refreshing classes in 10g(9.0.4.9) workbench. The classes were recently compiled in JAVA 1.5. We have just migrated from RAD6 using Java 1.4 to RAD8 using Java 1.5. Is there a way to use this verion of the workbench with JAVA 1.5? Or is our only alternative to upgrade to a later version on the workbench.

I strongly suggest to upgrade to AS 10.1.3 to get this.
Think of future support of AS 9.0.4. You will get not critical patch updates anymore.

After my last tests I conclude at the followings:
The query returns 1-30 records
Test 1: Using Form Builder
- Execution time 7-8 seconds
Test 2: Using Jdeveloper/Toplink/EJB 3.0/ADF and Oracle AS 10.1.3.0
- Execution time 25-27 seconds
Test 3: Using JDBC/ADF and Oracle AS 10.1.3.0
- Execution time 17-18 seconds
When I use:
session.setLogLevel(SessionLog.FINE) and
session.setProfiler(new PerformanceProfiler())
I don’t see any improvement in the execution time of the query.

Best practices TopLink Mapping Workbench multi-user + CVS?

This might be a very important issue, in our decision whether or not to choose TopLink --
How well is multi-user development and CVS supported when using the TopLink Mapping Workbench? Are there best practices regarding this use case?

We have no problem with the workbench and CVS. Only a couple of our developers are responsible for the mappings so we havn't really run into concurrent edits. It's pure XML so a decent mergetool with XML support should let you resolve conflicts pretty easily.

Vulnerability - Oracle toplink mapping workbench password algorithm

It has come to our attention that a 3rd party has published the algorithm used to obfuscate a database password stored in the runtime configuration file (project.xml or java source file) generated by the TopLink Mapping Workbench version 9.0.3.
This database password is NOT used when TopLink is using an application servers database connection pool and this issue does not apply. In this case TopLink uses a specified data source name and the application server manages the database password.
For those not using the app server connection pool, the obfuscation is not meant to offer encryption protection for the password stored in the file. It is a mechanism meant to make the password in the file unreadable to the naked eye. It is not a replacement for proper file permission and access control to protect the file.
It is an optional convenience feature that customers have requested as they have found it to be useful during development and internal testing. The only way the password is saved in the file is if the option that is explicitly marked Save Password (Unencrypted) is used.
For encrypted security protection using technology such as Java Cryptography Extension (JCE), the unencrypted password can be set using APIs provided in the TopLink runtime libraries. A code example follows:

1.     If you are using the application servers database connection pool, this issue does not apply. TopLink simply specifies a data source name and the application server manages, stores and encrypts the password.
2.     If you are not using the application servers database connection pool, use the optional Mapping Workbench feature to store the password in the project.xml or java source file for development or internal testing purposes only if there is proper file permission and access control to protect the file.
3.     For deployment or unsecured development environments utilize the TopLink APIs provided that allow secure password encryption technology to be used.
This issue only applies to version 9.0.3 and prior; in 9.0.4 the TopLink Mapping Workbench uses JCE to encrypt the file.

Using Java SE 6 with Java FX 2.2 on Mac OS X

Hello,
Has anyone tried using Java SE 6 with JavaFX 2.2 on Mac OS X?
JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements doc states that "For Mac OS X, use Java SE 7 Update 6 for Mac OS X. JavaFX 2.2 has not been formally tested with Apple's Java SE 6 implementation for Mac OS and support is offered only when used with Java SE 7 Update 6 or later.".
So I guess that means Java SE 6 may or may not work well with JavaFX 2.2 on Mac.
For some 'bugs' in my app, they simply don't exist if I switch from Java 7 to Java 6?

Can people with experiences in this area please share your thoughts?

Java 6 on Mac is not supported officially and not going to be supported.
Standalone JavaFX app might work as JDK 6 on Mac was used as dev platform before JDK 7 on Mac became available.
But this was mostly on older Mac OS X version (up to 10.6) and you may easily hit something that was fixed in Java 7 to support JavaFX better.
Webstart/Plugin will not work. You need JRE 7 from Oracle.

Can I use Java Creator 2 with old JRE/JDK 1.4.2_07??

I am planning to install new Java Creator 2 but I am having JRE and JDK 1.4.2_07 and I am using mysql 3.23.55 and I want to integrate it.
Currently my OS is Windows XP SP2 platform with processor Intel Centrino 1.4 and RAM 256 MB... I know the ram is not sufficient and i am planning to upgrade it.. but the problem is can i still remain to use the old JRE and JDK 1.4.2_07 and i am also using mysql 3.23.55... all the driver and engine are out to date but can i still use it and integrate it with java creator 2?
The questions are:
1) Can I use Java creator 2 with those old engine?
2) What java compiler or development tools i can use to develop java standalone application?

This is causing problems, because anytime I try to use this file, I get signing errors. I have several Web Services built by BAE and Plumtree that are running on 1.4.2; and therefore I am stuck with 1.4.2. I did try to remove the SUN_MICR.* files, thinkning it would resolve the signing issues, but then that caused other problems. I can provide you with code that demonstrates the problem.
Is there a place where I can get a mail 1.4 jar file built with 1.4.2? that would most likely solve my problems.

Toplink mapping workbench

I am trying to download the Toplink Mapping workbench and cannot locate it on Oracle website. Can anyone let me know where I can download it from? I am just going around in circles.

The Workbench is included in the TopLink download available by clicking on the red "Free Download" button on the TopLink OTN homepage (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/index.html).

TopLink Mapping WorkBench - Interfaces

Hi,
I am using toplink workbench version 9.0.4.5 ,Oracle DB 10g(9.0.4),jdk version 1.4.2
I get an issue with interfaces in mapping workbench. When I select refresh classes option, the implementors selected for the interfaces are not retained.
Is this the expected behaviour ?
Is there any patch for this problem ?
I had applied patch number 3941343 for this mapping work bench. Is there any other pathces we should be applying to this version ?

I am using 10.1.3.0.1 and for me there are still grave issues with interface management in the WB.
First of all, I get a NullPointerException when clicking the "add" Button on the interface descriptor's implementor list after having refreshed all classes by selecting the project packages and doing "refresh classes" from the context menu. I have to close and restart the WB in order to be able to continue working.
Then, some attributes which are not common among the implementor classes are detected as common query keys.
Lastly, if I use variable one-to-one relationships and de-select some class indicator values, the de-selected implementor descriptors are displayed as selected after workbench restart again, showing me errors about missing class indicator values for selected descriptors (Error 0055).

i'll lay out the pieces for you, though:
(1) start with a User object. give it username and password attributes.
(2) write a UserDAO interface with CRUD operations for a User object.
(3) write a UserDAOImpl for your Microsoft Access database
(4) write an AuthenticationService interface
(5) write an implementation of the AuthenicationService that works with the UserDAO to authorize a User.
Use a servlet to accept request from your login page and pass it off to the service. Voila.
PS - Here's skeleton to start with. UI, servlet, and controller are your responsibility:

WebStart will work with EJB. I use it with WebLogic Server. You have to make sure and deploy the weblogic.jar file - sign it if needed.

You can use InitialContext ic = new InitialContext() only if you are using a startup class, servlet or a JSP i.e
server side code.
If you are using a java client you need to use Context ic = getInitialContext();

How do I use my bluetooth headset with apple maps?

I can't seem to get apple's maps to talk to my headset -- it's only using it's own speaker (I don't have a bluetooth-enabled car). Any ideas?

I can pair the headphones with the computer but the sound from GB is distorted and muffled. I can barely hear it. The set works with iTunes, but not with GarageBand.

I ran into a little problem with the portability of Java (ironic eh?) across computers. The program I wrote on my home computer uses GroupLayout for the GUI. However, much to my surprise, the computers at my school only had Java 5 installed so the program could not run (GroupLayout is a class found only in Java 6). Is there any way to somehow package the GroupLayout class into my program?
