I have a palm treo.  When I try to hotsync using the bluetooth adapter, it gives me a message stating:
"unable to connect, port is being used by another application".
I have rebooted, soft reset, etc.    and still get the same message.
I do not know how to set up another port on the windows vista program.  That was one suggestion.
I have selected both bluetooth and serial port under the hot sync manager.
    Nothing works.

Hello akashmedehrotra and welcome to the community.....
Windows Vista 64 bit is only sync with a wireless connection.  Either Bluetooth or Infra Red.  The M515 does not have bluetooth, so you would have to purchase an IR Dongle and sync using Infra Red.  You won't be able to sync with the USB cable on your desktop.

I get this complicated error mesage and then the installer rolls back and fails.
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please.
Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Can I install iTunes in separate user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit?

    Hi,
My wife and I use different user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit. Before I go and mess things up on my computer, I wanted ask some questions:
    1) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
    2) If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
I'm thinking with iTunes very tight integration with the music files (for indexing/searching, etc), that it would be bad to have add/change/delete on the same music root from 2 independent installations.
    Experience OR opinions welcome!

) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
You don't install the iTunes application more than once. Each user account in Windows will have its own iTunes library.
If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
Many people have done so. This should help:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that iTunes has no folder-watching capability, so if you add a track in one user account, the other user will have to add that new item manually, either by using the Add To Library command or dragging the item into the iTunes window. There are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

  • Browse sequence in Windows Vista 64-bit?

This is a duplicate post.  I posted it nestled down in another browse sequence thread and didn't get any nibbles, so I am creating a new thread.  I hope no one minds.
Hi all, I'm wondering if I can get a little help from the gurus here.  I've been through the forums and internet trying to find the answer to browse sequences and glossary tabs in Windows Vista 64-bit.  I am running Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium Service Pack 2.
I need to mention that my .chm files work fine on Windows XP (multiple machines tested).  My project consists of a master .chm (thanks Peter Grainge for the step-by-step, which I followed to the letter) with 15 slave projects.
I've copied the hhactivex.dll from the Program Files\Adobe\RoboHelp\RoboHTML (426 KB) on my Windows XP machine and saved it in the following folders on my Windows Vista 64-bit machine:
    c:\windows\system32
    c:\windows\sysWOW64
I then tried using the cmd.exe command prompt (as administrator) in c:\windows\system32 to do the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hhactivex.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx
Both commands registered successfully.  When I opened the .chm, the glossary and browse sequence are still not working properly.
So, I then tried unregistered hhactivex.dll and hhctrl.ocx in the c:\windows\system32 folder using the regsvc32 and the cmd.exe (as administrator) in that same folder.
I then tried using the cmd.exe command prompt (as administrator) in c:\windows\sysWOW64 to do the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhactivex.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhctrl.ocx
Both commands registered successfully.  When I opened the .chm, the glossary and browse sequence are still not working properly.
I've been pulling my hair out on this one.  I've seen posts mentioning the "Unblock" Button on the .chm's Properties - General tab - Advanced dialog, but I do not have an Unblock button anywhere in the properties for these .chms.  I also do not have the Microsoft KB 89xxxxx security updates on my Vista 64-bit computer that I can find.
I also say a post that put the path/filename in quotes when using regsvr32.  I tried registering again using the same scenarios above in system32 (regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\hhactivex.dll") and sysWOW64 (regsvr32 "c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhactivex.dll") but still I cannot get the browse sequences/glossary to work in thses compiled .chms -- whether opening the master or the slave.
After I registered the hhactivex.dll on a Windows XP test machine, if I opened a .chm and then went into Windows Explorer and tried to delete the hhactivex.dll, I'd get a "file in use" error.  However, when I open a .chm on my Vista 64-bit machine and try to delete the hhactivex.dll in either system32 or sysWoW64, it deletes without error.  I verified this with all of the different registering methods I described in this post (registering, testing, unregistering, moving to next folder, etc.).  Being able to delete the .dll on the Vista machine tends to make me believe that the .dll isn't really registering,  Either way, it isn't being accessed when a .chm file is opened like on a Windows XP machine.
I've been around the internet trying to find out exactly how to register .dlls in Vista 64-bit, and unless I'm totally missing something I believe I am doing this correctly.  If I am doing something wrong, could someone guide me in the right direction with a complete step-by-step method that works in Vista 64-bit?
I have yet to test Vista 32-bit or any version of Windows 7, but I am hoping that once I resolve the problem in Vista 64-bit that the rest will be non-issues.  I hope anyway, as I have no means to test those platforms.
Thanks in advance for making it to the end of this long post of mine.  I appreciate any help!
    eeddings

The 32bit version of HH.exe is kept in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64". When you double click a CHM file on a 64 bit machine, it launches the 64 bit version of hh.exe kept in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 directory.
To launch a CHM with 32 bit version hh.exe, run the following command in a 64 bit machine C:\Windows\SysWOW64\hh.exe <CHM file Path>
The other good news is that you can get the 64 bit version of HHActiveX.dll in RoboHelp 9.0. It is kept at "<RoboHelp 9.0 install folder>\Redist\x64\HHActiveX.dll"
If RoboHelp 9.0 is installed on your machine, this activeX control is already registered. Otherwise you need to register this DLL.
To register 64bit version of HHActiveX.dll,
1> Run Command prompt(cmd.exe) as administrator
    2> Type "regsvr32 <64 bit HHActiveX.dll full path>" and press Enter.
3> This should show that the registration is done successfully.
Now working with 64 bit version of HH.exe should also show Glossary and Browse Sequences.

  • Solution to connect calander to Windows Vista 64 bit without Outlook.

Ok, if any of you are like me you like to use all the functions possible on the nano. Unfortunately for me I have one of the most challenging systems to work with trying to get media onto nano from computer and vise verse. I’m running Windows Vista 64 bit and I wanted to sync the calendar from my computer onto my nano. Long story short is if you contact Apple support they will most likely tell you that you have to download Outlook or Outlook express. Unfortunately Outlook is not exactly cheap and Outlook Express doesn’t work on the Vista. So you will have to find a different calendar to use. Two options exist for us Vista users, neither of them is automatic, but at least you can use the calendar.
Option #1: Optional calendar to use is called Microsoft Works Calendar. It is already pre install on Vista and has an option to export the calendar as an iCalender. How to use it is you fill in the calendar, then go to File> Export> iCalendar. A box pops open called Export iCalendar File. In that box select All appointments, by doing that I believe it over rides the range option. Then hit OK. Then the Save As box opens and you will have to save it into your nano’s calandar folder. And hit Save once you locate the nano’s calendar file. There you are done. Now every time you make a change to the calendar on your computer you do the same steps but always save the calendar as the same name so it will over write the existing calendar on your nano.
Option #2: This option is similar as above but it allows you to use any calendar you have on your computer that can save the calendar as a .ics file format. Choose the calendar of your option but before wasting any time filling in the calendar first check to see if the calendar can be saved as a .ics type. If the calendar of choice doesn’t allow you to save that type of file then it will not work and you will have to choose a different calendar to use. Once you find the calendar to use then you can fill it in as you need to. Then go to File> Save as> and select the save as type to be a iCalendar File (*.ics). And Save in you nano’s calendar file. Now you’re done. Remember though every time you want to update the calendar on your nano you will have to save it as the same name so it over writes the calendar on the nano and updates properly.
I know this doesn’t sync up automatically but it is the only way to use the calendar on nano if you don’t want to purchase Outlook, cause Apple only programmed itunes to work with Outlook or Outlook Express and they do not have any other options available.

  • Is Flash Player 11.7.700.224 really compatable with Windows Vista 64-bit?

I ask this question because under System Requirements, Window Vista 64-bit isn't listed.  I've inserted the link for the system requirements below...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html
I'm trying to figure why my Flash Player disappears from time to time when I'm watching a clip/video and then my Internet Explorer 9 typically stops working, it closes down, and then it opens up and asks me if I want to restore the browsing session.  I'm thinking that this has to do with having both Internet Explorer 9 32-bit and 64-bit.  I read online that Internet Explorer 9 has both and this is why I'm questioning whether Flash Player 11.7.700.224 might be contributing to this issue or was Window Vista 64-bit left off the system requirements in error?
    Thanks!

Try using the installers from the links in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
P.S. topic moved to the Installation section of the forum.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit w/older 2 dual core 3.0ghz Mac Pro with NVIDIA 7300

I have read a variety of the posts that have appeared here on the use of Windows Vista 64 bits on a Mac Pro. I remain confused, and but want to do this. I have a Mac Pro purchased in the Spring of '07 with dual 3.0Ghz dual core Xeon cpus and 10gb of ram, using the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT and running 10.5.1, with multiple drives. I want to run the 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate to use my ram, and to gain the performance this box should offer. It appears that I have three options:
    1. Boot Camp: I don't know if the drivers are available, seems like the new Mac Pro drivers probably would not work, even if I could find them, since I have an older Mac Pro with a pair of the dual core Xeon CPUs. Don't know if there is an alternate source than Apple for the drivers, or a way to get around the problem in boot camp.
    2. Parallels: I do not believe that 64 bit apps are supported by Parallels
    3. Fusion: Their web site says they support Win Vista 64 bit, but it is not clear to me on the web site where the drivers are obtained, or perhaps they are built in to Fusion. Will I get the performance and memory benefits in fusion? Or is the OSX virtual overhead so high that this is a fools errand?
I do a lot of video editing, and fully 95% of my life is in the Mac world, but I have individuals who send files for editing, and occasionally they require Windows tools, much to my chagrin. I also have a small number of programs that need Windows 64. I occasionally am required to do some development work, and would like to use this machine for that purpose if it can indeed run Win Vista 64bit. I have XP loaded on a more modest box andit is running fine when I need it, which isn't very often.
Any help, or successful experience in running Windows Ultimate 64 bit on this hardware, utilizing its resources would be greatly appreciated.

Here are my results after further digging online and from my own experience.
    Here is the procedure:
    1. Check whether your Mac has the 32-bit EFI or 64-bit EFI
    http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/08/snow-leopard-106-and-64-bit-what-you-need-to- know/
    2. Create a Boot Camp (BC) partition for Windows 7 x64. Resize the partition size using the slider in the BC app. Follow the instruction, insert the Windows 7 disk and reboot.
    3. This will load the PC partition which is FAT formatted for now. Choose the Boot Camp partition on which to install Win 7, but choose in the option to format that partition. It will automatically format it in NTFS. Otherwise, it will not install on that partition.
Note : A "OEM System Builder" Windows 7 64-bit Professional UPGRADE install without any issues what so ever. The upgrade disk is a full install. Read this for further information:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/174288/windows7_upgrade_madecheaper.html
    4. Run windows, then insert the Snow Leopard disk. It will tell you your hardware cannot support x64 version. Do the following procedure to manually install the driver:
    http://michael.anastasiou.me/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=22%3Aq boot-camp-x64-is-unsupported-on-this-computer-modelq-solution&catid=7%3Ahow-to&l ang=en
    5. Then update Boot camp using Apple Software Update in Windows.
    6. All hardware works fine except the sound. The sound only comes out of the internal speaker, even when headphone or speakers are plugged in the jack. Installing the Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs driver in order to fixe the problem. Shutdown and reboot to make it applicable. Try a second time if it still does not work:
    http://218.210.127.131/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Le vel=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
    That's it.

Sadly MSI hasn't yet supplied us with a 64-bit version of LiveUpdate.
Personally I've been using AMI's Windows Flash Utility AFUWIN.exe several times. Works flawlessly even when running Vista x64.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit and HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One - Workaround

Although HP has not provided a workable solution for a use of a HP 2840 Color LaserJet All-In-One with Windows Vista 64 bit, I did manage to get it to work. The solution is a bit convoluted and may not work for all users but here’s how I did it. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Not sure how other Vista versions may behave.
I tried many different solutions that did not work. Attempting to install many different versions of the HP 2840 software in different compatibility modes ended up rendering my other HP 4385 All-In-One inoperative.  I deleted every piece of HP software and hardware from my system and reinstalling the HP 4385 software. Still couldn’t get my 4385 working again. I finally ended up restoring my system to restore point prior to attempting to install the HP 2840. All this to say that if you’ve made several attempts to get it working you may need to back up and punt with a restore.
Make sure your HP 2840 is NOT connected.
Press the “Scan” button on the 2840 (The control panel on the 2840 should say ‘Waiting on PC”).
Plug the HP 2840 in via a USB cable. A “New hardware” message should pop up on the PC.
Minimize this window. DO NOT MAKE ANY ATTEMPT TO INSTALL DRIVERS. Just ignore this message for the moment.
In Windows, go to CONTROL PANEL/SCANNERS AND CAMERAS. Hopefully you’ll see a “HP 2840 LaserJet Scanner”. If not, the rest will probably not work.
Now hit the "Windows Start" button. Select "Programs" or "All Programs" (depending on your setup configuration). Open "Windows Fax Scan". It should connect to the 2840 Scanner. Experiment with the scanner and select flatbed and feeder input  to make sure it functions properly. Once satisfied that the scanner is working properly you can configure the printer.
On the “New Hardware Detected” window that you minimized in step 4, select “Do Not Ask Me Again For This Hardware”.
Connect the 2840 to your network via a CAT cable.
On your PC press the "Windows Start" button and select “Settings and Printers”.
    Select “Add a Printer”.
    Select “Add a Network Printer”.
Windows will scan your network searching for printers. It should find your 2840.
Select “Next” (It is not necessary to let the search complete once your 2840 has been identified).
From the dropdown list, select ‘HP” and “HP Universal Printing PCL 6". It was the last one in the list for me.
    Print a test page
You should now have a HP 2840 network printer and a local 2840 scanner.
O course the drawback is that you can only scan to the PC where the 2840 scanner is attached via the USB cable. You can print from any PC on your network by following steps 9 through 15 on each network PC.
Another little tidbit I ran into; selecting any other driver besides the “HP Universal Printing PCL 6" driver cause my Microsoft Office 2007 to crash any time I selected the "Save As" option. I found some links on the Internet that indicate this is a known problem. It may not affect you but you might want to play it safe.
    Hope this helps someone.

Uninstall the HP software using the uninistaller in the HP folder.
    Restart your PC.
Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
