Using Java swing layout

I'm rather new at this and i'm having trouble creating my desired layout, actually i'm having trouble picking my desired layout.
this is how i'd want my program to look...
name place time address
mary Hos. 12:00 70 sine st. JButton
Kay Sch. 1:00 13 cos st. JButton
JButton("OK")
Hopefully you have some idea of where i'm heading. I don't want a table because i want this to be uneditable so i'm doing with with panels. the spots marked "JButton" are of course Buttons (their functions are not important). at the bottom is a single "OK" Jbutton that is aligned with the other JButtons above it.
my issues are as follows,
I have just 4 title labels (name, place, time, address) but there are essentially 5 components that make up the body of the list (all the others + a JButton). can anyone tell me what Layout i should use?? i've tried GridBag but i'm having trouble with the JButtons. And How in the world can i place the final OK button?

I suppose those things were supposed to be arranged in columns? Then you want a JTable. And if you want it to be uneditable, then just make it uneditable. There's no need for enormous workarounds.

  • How can I use java swing class in JSP page design

    I am a new developer in Java server pages. I want to use layout managers available in java swing classes to design the page. Can any body suggest me a way to do this.Is it possible if I do it with servelets.

    So, you want to use layout managers within your JSPs?
    The immediate answer is that "it isn't a good idea". The more considered answer is "tell us what you're up to".
    Are you coding all presentation within a traditional JSP? That is, HTML, customer or library tags and/java scriptlets?
    Or are you building your HTML within your servlets and sending that back to the browser?
    If the first, then you are probably better off either using explicit HTML tables (or the equivalent custom tags) or finding a library that you can use.
    If the second, you can write classes similar to the Swing layout managers that end up being a fancy way of putting elements into an HTML table. We have exactly that in my current environment. I wouldn't recommend rolling your own and I'd tend to leave all that presentation stuff to the JSP.
    In any case, you can't really use the Swing layout managers as they are for an entirely different pradigm.

    I have some questions which i wish to clarify asap. I am working on a file browser project using java swing. • How to create a semi circuler slider using java swing or awt

    I am trying to create a Jslider like thing but in semicirculer shape. Thanks in advance for providing any help.

    Is it possible to create such UI in java swing?Just to further illustrate, Swing only provides the raw foundation you need to be able to build a GUI. With the stock components you can create static user interfaces with standard controls. If you want to go further, you need to either find a component that somebody else already wrote, or you go into custom painting as previous posters suggested. To do an animating component for example, you would need all the frames as BufferedImage objects and you would combine custom painting with a Swing timer to update the displayed frame at a specified framerate.
    if you search for "java swing animation" using google, I'm sure you can find the examples you need. And here is the trail about swing timers:

    You should update your DOM document to represent the changes that you want made.
    Then, using the Transformation API you simply transform your document onto a stream representing your file. Something like this:
    Transformer transformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
    transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.INDENT, "yes");
    // TODO - set indentation amount!
    Source source = new DOMSource(dom);
    Result result = new StreamResult(file);
    transformer.transform(source, result);Hope this helps.

    You find examples and code by searching the internet, not by using forums.
    Start with The Java Tutorials - it has trails for the bulk of the Java functionality.
    See the trail 'How to Write an Undoable Edit Listener'
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/events/undoableeditlistener.html
    You learn by DOING - not by reading. Actually DO the tutorial example and try to understand WHAT it does and HOW it does it.
    Then search for other tutorial trails that are of interest.

  • Java swing dynamic forms (in a loop)

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to dynamically create forms using java swing? What I mean to ask is that if I have the necessary information in a table, like the label and a corresponding text field, I can loop through and create the required number of fields. If I do it this way and when the users add text, will I not lose the ability to access each JTextField through its own variable? Is this possible? Basically, I need to be able to access each field through its own variable to do some additional validations on the text entered, etc. Please let me know, if it is possible through java swing.
    Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Using XPath to locate the elements you are after is very easy.
    Try something like this:
    import java.io.File;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
    import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPath;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPathConstants;
    import javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactory;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.w3c.dom.NodeList;
    import org.xml.sax.InputSource;
    public class BasicXMLReplaceWithDOM4J {
         static String inputFile = "C:/student.xml";
         static String outputFile = "C:/studentRenamed.xml";
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              // Read xml and build a DOM document
              Document doc = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance()
                        .newDocumentBuilder().parse(new InputSource(inputFile));
              // Use XPath to find all nodes where student is named 'Suresh'
              XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
              NodeList nodes = (NodeList)xpath
                   .evaluate("//stud_name[text()='Suresh']", doc, XPathConstants.NODESET);
              // Rename these nodes
              for (int idx = 0; idx < nodes.getLength(); idx++) {
                   nodes.item(idx).setTextContent("Suresh-Renamed");
              // Write the DOM document to the file
              Transformer xformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
              xformer.transform(new DOMSource(doc), new StreamResult(new File(outputFile)));

    Hi people!i need some help
    Im a new user for java programming language.Well im programming an application using java swing libraries. I have some problems trying to accesing variables from those swing Jpanels. Ill make it clear....
    Im using Netbeans...
    I have a class for the window (a JFrame) including 2 Jtextfields and 2 Jlabels
    import .......
    public class myclass extends javax.swing.JFrame{
    public double gp;
    public double gv;
    public G() {
    initComponents();
    gpnom=this.gpnom;
    gvnom=this.gvnom;
    private void TXFgpnom(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {        //TXField
    gpnom= Double.parseDouble(TXFgpnom.getText());

    .......//theres a lot of more code .for listeners..next...
    Now ive created a new file (a new class)in the same package ,but i cant access public variables from swing class
    //the next class was created in a new file
    public class hi () {
    JPanel prin =(JPanel) new myclass().getContentPane(); //ok
    double number=gpnom // error variable not found
    When i try to get the value of "number" ...i always get "ERROR" And the class for that textfield was public..i think...
    HOw can i use variables from that Jpanel?
    Id appreciate an answer...
    thanx for your help!
    Paco

    In future Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum and camickr will be more likely to answer if you have used code tags to properly format your code.
    Luckily this problem does not seem to be Swing related in the least because the public variables you have in your other class are named gp and gv and further when you access public variables (or properties) of a class you must access them by an instance of that class. Which you don't appear to be doing either.

    Hi
    As the previous guy said it is quite easy, and that link should teach you the basics. What I want to remind you of is that Swing uses up more memory when run. But it also have a few nicer extra goodies that make coding a little bit easier. Have fun with it.
