Using JCheckBox/JComboBox with JDBC

hello.
i was just wondering does any of you have links to web pages that include tutorials (and source code) on using JCheckBox with JDBC. would any of you who have experience with using JCheckBox and JDBC together be able to give me a few tips on how to select certain data from a table using JCheckBox and JButton? (examples of such data could be CD/DVD/Game data - i want users of my video library system to be able to view CD/DVD/Game information by name, age category, type and year)
thank you very much for your help.

hello.
Thanks for the replies. Im wondering do any of you
have links to web pages that include tutorials and
source code on using JCheckBox, JButton and JTextArea
with JDBC. Wow, another person who's never heard of Google. Amazing!
would any of you who have experience with
using JCheckBox, JButton, JTextArea and JDBC together
be able to give me a few tips on how to select
certain data from a table using JCheckBox + JButton
and display the data in a JTextArea? examples of such
data could be CD/DVD/Game data - i want users of my
video library system to be able to view CD/DVD/Game
information by name, age category, type and year.
Users should be able to click on a check box (e.g.
view by name, age category, type or year) and press a
button. What would happen then is that data would
appear in the text area (which could be placed
beneath the check box + button inside a frame).
thanks for the help.Find the tutorials, go through them, then come back here when you have a specific problem you need help with. Yes we have experience in these areas, but we're not going to post links and code here just because you're too lazy to use Google and find it yourself.

    By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
    So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
    that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
    A cluster has the following parameters:
    className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
    name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
    debug = the debug level, higher means more output
    mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
    mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
    mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
    mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
    mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
    tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
    tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
    in case of multiple ethernet cards.
    auto means that address becomes
    InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
    tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
    tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
    has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
    printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
    expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
    useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
    false means to replicate the session after each request.
    false means that replication would work for the following piece of code:
    <%
    HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
    map.put("key","value");
    %>
    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    * Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
    * Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
    thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
    nodes have received the information.
    * Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
    so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
    and then return to the client.
    The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
    already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
    in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
    large network delay.
    -->
    <!--
    When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
    coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
    A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
    1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
    2. a session exists (has been created)
    3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
    The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
    hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
    The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
    ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
    The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
    filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
    ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
    The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
    Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
    so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
    The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
    When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
    and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
    When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
    and cluster wide

    can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    I had the same problem on Windows 2000 with Tomcat 5.0 and Oracle 10's ojdbc14.jar.
    As I read your answer, I edited catalina.bat and added java.library.path to the Oracle10 client directory, where the ocijdbc10.dll was:
    -Djava.library.path="C:\Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client_1\BIN"
    Then I got exception:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: t2cCreateState
    , so I installed InstantClient from Oracle of the same version, and reset the path:
    -Djava.library.path="C:\Oracle\instantclient10_1"
    After that started to works fine. As you see, there is internal uncompatibility within Oracle's different drivers... I hope I could help somebody with this information.

    system.out.println("No records in this resultset");I am pretty sure that is incorrect.
    A statement always returns a result set, unless an exception occurs.
    This should do it
      Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
      ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select * from titles");
      int i = 0;
      while(rs.next()) i++;
      if (i == 0)
        System.out.println("no results");
      rs.close();
      con.close();
    . Or even better
      Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
      ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select count(*) from titles");
      int i = 0;
      if (rs.next())
         i = rs.getInt(1);
      if (i == 0)
        System.out.println("no results");
      rs.close();
      con.close();
    . ==================================

  • JComboBox with Custon Renderer Problem

    Hi, I am using a JComboBox with a custom ListCellRenderer that changes the colors of the strings on the list depending on some circunstances. The problem is that the changes only work on the list, but when one item is finally selected, and the list is no longer visible, the selected item has the default format (no colors)
    Thanks in advance

    I am not exactly sure what you mean, but here is something I wrote that sounds similar. It allows items in the dropdown list to be highlighted (text in red). The highlighted state is maintained when the dropdown list disappears, though in this implementation a selected item has highlighting turned off (the idea was that the items are things the user needed to see, once the user had selected a item, it no longer needed to be highlighted).
    For this to work all the items in your list must implement HighlightingComboBox.Highlightable.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    * An extension to JComboBox that allows items to be "highlighted"
    * (if they implement the HighlightingComboBox.Highlightable interface).
    * Highlighted items are shown in red. Highlighting is turned off when
    * the item is first selected. Items not impleneting that interface are
    * displayed normally. The drop-down list is rendered the same
    * regardless of the font property of the components, it is therefore
    * possible to set that property to, say, a huge, fancy font without the
    * drop-down panel being affected.
    public class HighlightingComboBox extends JComboBox
                                      implements ActionListener {
        public HighlightingComboBox() {
            super();
            addActionListener(this);

            if (getSelectedItem() instanceof Highlightable)
                ((Highlightable)getSelectedItem()).setHighlighted(false);
        private static class FancyRenderer extends JLabel

                    setForeground(Color.black);
                setBackground(isSelected ? Color.yellow : Color.white);
                setForeground(Color.black);
                return this;

  • Using JCheckBox, JButton and JTextArea with JDBC

    Hello shlumph and SoulTech2012.
    thanks for the reply. Im wondering do any of you have links to web pages that include tutorials and source code on using JCheckBox, JButton and JTextArea with JDBC. would any of you who have experience with using JCheckBox, JButton, JTextArea and JDBC together be able to give me a few tips on how to select certain data from a table using JCheckBox, JButton and display the data in a JTextArea? examples of such data could be CD/DVD/Game data - i want users of my video library system to be able to view CD/DVD/Game information by name, age category, type and year. Users should be able to click on a check box (e.g. view by name, age category, type or year) and press a button. What would happen then is that data from the Product table would appear in the text area (which could be placed beneath the check box + button inside a frame and/or panel).
    Thank you very much for your help.

  • Why can't i use "INNER JOIN" in a query for SQL Server with JDBC??????

    Hi,
    I'm trying to execute some SQL queries and I just don't understand what's wrong.
    Im using Tomcat and SQL Server in order to do this, but when Im try to execute a query with a INNER JOIN statements Tomcat raise a SQL exception... at the very first time I thought there was a problem with database connection but I realize that a simple query to a table works pretty well. then I found out some problems with JDBC:ODBC.... so I install JDBC for SQL Server 2000 and test with the same simple query and works..... so, I come to a conclusion.... INNER JOIN or JOIN statements can't be used in JDBC..... please... somebody tell Im wrong and give me a hand...
    I'm using TOMCAT 4 and JDK 1.4 SQL Server 2000
    Error occurs when executeQuery() is called.... not prepareStatement().... ??????
    Driver DriverRecResult = (Driver)Class.forName(driver).newInstance();
    Connection ConnRecResult = DriverManager.getConnection(DSN,user,password);
    PreparedStatement StatementRecResult = ConnRecResult.prepareStatement(query);
    ResultSet RecResult = StatementRecResult.executeQuery(); <---- Exception raise here
    So much tahnks in advance,

    That's exactly what I think, driver it's raising the exception, but I don't know why.... i test the same query with INNER JOIN directly from SQL Query Analyser and it's works perfectly, my problem ain't SQL, but JSP and JDBC 'cause i'm a newbie about these issues.
    Common sense tell me possible problems lie in SQLServer drivers 'cause i run the same pages on JRUN through jdbc:odbc and do works well, but by now i just depend on Tomcat.....
    I've installed SQL Server drivers for JDBC but i just find it doesn't work fully... could be the version of JDK i've installed? what version do i need?
    ( I'm running Tomcat 4 with JDK 1.4 & SQL Server 2000 W2K )
    thanks for reply.

  • Use of Complex Oracle Object with JDBC

    How can I use Oracle Object(or PL/Sql type) with JDBC
    I have a structure of record with some attributes and table of another attribute.
    My types are defined as follows !
    <code>
    CREATE TYPE EMPLOYEE_GRADES AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(50)
    CREATE TYPE EMPLOYEES AS OBJECT(EmpName VARCHAR2(50), EmpGrades Employee_Grades)
    </code>
    My custom object might have the following structure (or should it be different)
    <code>
    public class EmpColl implements CustomDatum, CustomDatumFactory
    -- other stuff ----
    /* fields */
    public String empName;
    public Collection empNos;
    </code>
    I want to pass an variable of type EMPLOYEES to an procedure.
    Thanx in Advance
    Chetan
    [email protected]

    <code>
    CREATE TYPE EMPLOYEE_GRADES AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(50)
    CREATE TYPE EMPLOYEES AS OBJECT(EmpName VARCHAR2(50), EmpGrades Employee_Grades)
    </code>The easiest is to use JPublisher (which comes with the SQLJ distribution).
    Say:
    jpub -user=username/password -sql=EMPLOYEES:Employees,EMPLOYEE_GRADES:EmployeeGrades
    You will get (among others) the Java files Employees.java and EmployeeGrade.java. Go ahead, compile and use them.
    Look in [Oracle Home]/sqlj/demo/jpub for a number of additional examples, and in the JPublisher User's Guide for background info.
    The next (9.2) release of JPublisher will also provide some support for accessing legacy PL/SQL types from Java.

  • Exception raised using JComboBox with JUComboBoxBinding in a JTable

    Hello,
    I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.1035.
    I have a JTable bound to a bc4j view object. Now I want to use a JComboBox to select the value for a foreign key column in that Table. For this I have followed the HOWTO posted by Arno van der Kolk in Thread JClient - JTable and JComboBox which extends the OTN example "How to Add a JComboBox to a Cell in a JTable". This almost works fine except for one thing:
    In the the ComboBox I display a String value but the view attribute is of type Number. Now when I edit the column using the ComboBox and the value of the selected entry cannot be converted to Number I get an exception like the following:
    oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException: JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:oracle.jbo.domain.Number with value:030522 001
    Even after this exception is raised the database record is updated with the correct number value corresponding to the selected entry when the changes are commited. The only w/a I have found so far is to display the foreign key attribute as the first column of the JComboBox but this is not what I want. This behaviour also occurs using the aforementioned OTN example with my JDev version but the sample works with JDev 9.0.2.
    How can I get this to work using JDev 9.0.3?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Christof Breker

  • Applet with JDBC runs very slow

    I have recently created an applet which I am using to interface with a MS SQL Server 2000 database using JDBC. The server is running W2K Server, and a Tomcat web server.
    There are some performance problems with this application. The volume of data being demanded by the database is very low, yet it runs very slow. More specifically, however, the application runs at a very fast pace for several seconds, then "stalls" for 10 -15 seconds.
    The stalling of the application does not take place at the same place in the code all the time; rather it seems to be completely independent of what I am doing. Sometimes a particular operation takes 20 seconds to complete, but the next day the same thing only takes 20msec.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    sounds like network usage issues
    hard to tell with no code and no idea how you're configured

  • How to use Iden SDK with WTK 2.5.1 ?

    I have installed WTK, and it has been working but I realized I forgot to add the iden SDK for my motorola phone. I installed the SDK but I assume I need to link the files to WTK somehow?
    What I am wanting to do :
    So... I think I know what I need... I thought I had installed the iDEN SDK from Motorola, but I never did. So I installed the SDK but now I don't know how to use it with WTK. For you people proficient with this I am sure this is a simple task, but for me I am lost.
    The SDK has a class file called StatusManager which can retrieve phone battery level...
    From documentation:
    "Field Detail
    BATTERY_LEVEL
    public static final int BATTERY_LEVEL
    This is the value passed to the status manager to retrive the battery levels
    The return value is in the range of [0 - 3] with 0 being no charge and 3 being a full battery.
    BATTERY_LEVEL has a value of 0"
    QUESTION IS: Where do I put the SDK files so WTK can use them? I am lost here.
    I found the StatusManager.class file in :
    C:\Program Files\Motorola\iDEN SDK for J2ME (MIDP 2_0)\lib\i730\com\mot\iden\device\
    Can someone give me the detailed process of using the SDK with WTK... please??

    Thanks Sree.
    Is there something so called as the back-door approach to it.
    I read in the articles of Struct Objects and Connection that:
    If connection is obtained via:
    weblogic.jdbc.jts.connection jtsConn = getConnection();
    OracleConnection oracleConn = jtsConn.conn;
    And this should ideally work in WLS5.1,
    but still i wonder how did they obtain the connection.
    It would be obligatory if someone could help me with it.

    Could you please help me to resolve the problem ?
    Backgroud:
    We need to connect the external Oracle DB with JDBC connector, because BI need to connect to the target Oracle. If the JDBC connector suceed, BI will create a UD which use the datasource
