Using JDev to easily modify XML Stylesheets (.xsl)

Hi all -
I'm new to JDev and XML, and am trying to modify the standard PO form from EBS/BI Publisher. Since there's a default .xsl that is close to my requirement, I thought it might be faster to modify it, rather than start over w/ creating an .rtf. I simply need to add some fields which already exist in my .xsd file.
I have a .xml, .xsd, and .xsl files. My question...is it possible to use JDev to easily update my .xsl so that I can see my updates with new data in real time as I develop? Can anyone point me in the direction of some documentation that explains how to setup the JDev Project to connect to a DB and use these xml files together? I've tried using WYSIWIG 3rd-party tools in the hopes of accomplishing this task in a design-like view. No luck.
I hate to recreate the wheel, but if I don't get somewhere soon, I'm going to have to go the .rtf route.
Thanks in advance for your repsonses.

Are you just looking for an easy way to see the result of running XSL on your XML doc?
If so just right click run on your XSL (or go to project properties->Run/Debug configuration->edit -> XML ) and you'll have a place to specify the files involved in the translation. You can also use debug mode.

    XSL-1000: (Fatal Error) Error while parsing XSL file (Extension function namespace should start with 'http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/'.).
    What kind of namespace I should specify?

    Hello, Paul.
    I'm sure you may not use JavaScript as a language for creating XSLT extention functions with Oracle XDK Parser. This is since parser might have JavaScript interpreter to work with JavaScript, but it has not.
    If you need to build any XSLT extention functions you must build them as Java class' static methods.
    After that, you define the usage of the class by mean of namespace declaration as:
    xmlns:your-ns="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/yourpackage.Yourclass"
    (Prefix "http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/" may differs if you use non-Oracle XML parser)
    and use class' static method in XSLT:
    <xsl:value-of select="your-ns.staticMethodName(paramsIfAny)"/>
    In your case you may wish to use standard Date class:
    xmlns:date="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/java.util.Date"
    <xsl:value-of select="date:toString(date:new)"/>

    Hi,
    Using UTL_HTTP Iam trying to contact a servlet which uses the input XML and XSL/FO to produce a PDF.However, when I run the procedure , I get the following error 'File does not begin with -%PDF' ? Hello guys! I have been assigned the same task,i.e to generate pdf through xml using xsl stylesheet.
    I have a procedure which is creating the xml and the stylesheet. But I have no idea how to write the procedure which passes this xml to fo engine. I am very new to this. Can anyone please share your thoughts with me so as how to accomplish this? By reading blogs on internet I figured I would have to use UTIL_HTTP but don't know how.

  • Named file entity do not load in from xml files(eg., !DOCTYPE PURANA SYSTEM "purana.dtd" [ !ENTITY CHAPTER_1 SYSTEM "./chapter_1.xml" ] ?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="purana.xsl"? PURANA TITLE /TITLE &CHAPTER_1; /PURANA )

    I create several file name entities in an external DTD.
    It used to work sometimes back but I don't remember now when it begun to fail.
    typical document for eg., is given below:
    <!DOCTYPE PURANA SYSTEM "purana.dtd" [ <!ENTITY CHAPTER_1 SYSTEM "./chapter_1.xml"> ]>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="purana.xsl"?> <PURANA>
    <TITLE>
    </TITLE>
    &CHAPTER_1;
    </PURANA>)
    the abbreviation used to work by loading the file using XSL script,
    but now it does not even work when the entity is defined within the XML document itself.

    Too difficult???
    Please helped me.

  • How to read xml-stylesheet Processing Instruction from XML using DOM Parser

    Hi,
    I am trying to read an xml that contains xsl stylesheet PI using DOMParser. The parse() method reads the entire contents of the XML except the PI instruction. Below is the XML I am using to read
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet href="../../../lang/en-us/style0/usc_profile.xsl" type="text/xsl"?>

    <ObProfile>
    </ObProfile>
    </Oblix>
    Can anyone let me know if there are any propery settings to be done for the DOM parser before parsing?. If so, what is the property to be set?.
    Thanks in Advance
    Muthu

    A COTS product builds the XML and inserts the respective xsl (xml:stylesheet) file name to be used for transforming the xml. I am trying to interrupt this xml and make some updations on an element and finally send the updated xml to the stream.
    For the above process, I parse the input XML using DOMParser and update the elements (some internal elements). While I view the final XML that would be passed to the stream, I found the <?xml-stylesheet... PI is missing.
    I somehow managed using a temp fix by doing the below. I manually pulled the PI using document.getFirstChild().getNodeValue() and reconstructed the PI and inserted it to the outgoing XML. This needs to be done every time. This might run into problems when more than one PI is used in the XML.
    If the parsed XML could get the PI along with it the above problem could be resolved.
    Is there any property that could be set on the parser (prior to parsing) to resolve the issue?.

  • Unable to display a variable value in xml through xsl using coldfusion

    Hi ColdFusion Heroes ,
    Is their any one to help me in this issue . I am new to cold

    Detail Explaination :
    develoment_files.cfm is a .cfm page , which includes an xml

    development_files_dropdown.xsl is a xsl page .
    develoment_files.cfm : Code is as follows .
    <CFDIRECTORY ACTION="LIST" DIRECTORY="#somepath#"

    <CFQUERY DBTYPE="query" NAME="Files">
    SELECT *
    FROM DirContents
    WHERE Type = 'File'

    </Directory>
    </cfloop>
    </Test></CFOUTPUT>
    This file generates a query resulting files starting with p*
    and then it should be a file and manipulates in xml.
    development_files_dropdown.xsl pages is as follows.
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="

    </option>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </select>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    This is only for the purpose of display .
    Now i want to get one particular file named "pfile" { Code is
    written in development_files.cfm page and kept it in a variable } I
    want to display it in #Name# filed. how can i do that ? I am
    getting XML Parsing error from javascript .
    Could any one look into this .
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nataraj G

    The first part is right -
    1) drag a text element onto the page, at a location in which you want the variable value to be displayed
    2) On the left hand bottom page - go to the web item properties for the text element
    3) scroll down to the specific properties for the item - in that uncheck the first two check boxes - display general text elements & display static filter values
    4) in the next item in the properties (List of text elements) click once on the box where List is written and then clcik on the small browse button that appears.
    5) in the window that opens, in the element type field, select variable/variable value as key (as per your requirement) and then under the element ID field type in the technical name of your variable that you want to display.
    click ok and save your template and try executing it.
    See if this solves your problem.

  • Can I Include an xml-stylesheet Link in a Java Web-Service?

    The ability to easily create a SOAP-based web-service from a Java class using JDev's built in "Java Web Service" wizard is great.
    From an "Ajax enablement" perspective, I see tremendous value in having the ability to specify an XSL url in the call to that web-service, so that the server will insert an <?xml-stylesheet .../> link to the specified URL prior to the SOAP message that it returns. That way, different callers to the web-service could render the same SOAP response differently (via an XSL transformation performed on the client-side via the XSL they've specified).
    Is there already an undocumented way to do this with an Oracle "Java Web Service" that I am not aware of? If not, adding that capability would be trivial for Oracle, and it would add tremendous value to developers using Oracle's "Java Web Service" capability.

    Hi Chris,
    I take it you are using the RESTful API method to GET the data. In that case you shoul be able to perform a http POST from your js code in order to update the controls.
    This could be done as form components are updated, or after a submit button is pressed (I'm sure you are familiar with this part).
    Please see here for more information: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361J-01/lvhowto/build_web_service/
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I add ?xml-stylesheet to an XML file?

    Hi guys,
    I have a java code that writes out an XML file. I want to specify the name of a stylesheet in the XML file. How can I do that?
    This is the source code I have:
    //---------- Create XML File ------------------
    private void createXMLFile(Document doc) throws Exception
    try
    TransformerFactory tF = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer tr = tF.newTransformer();
    FileOutputStream outXml = new FileOutputStream(xmlFile, false);
    tr.transform(new DOMSource(doc), new StreamResult(outXml));
    outXml.close();
    catch (java.io.FileNotFoundException exc)
    throw new Exception(exc.getMessage());
    catch( TransformerConfigurationException exc )
    throw new Exception(exc.getMessage());
    catch( TransformerException exc )
    throw new Exception(exc.getMessage());
    Thank you
    Murat

    The solution from dvohra09 will output a file outXml that uses the format rules from stylesheet.
    But how can I write out the following 2 lines to outXml? contextHandler.startDocument() will only write out the first line, but not the second line...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="mytest.xsl"?>
    Thanks for all pointers!

  • One xml, multiple xsl, multiple xslt, one output

    Hi,
    I have one xml file, 3 xsl files, and want to output (append) to a text file.
    I can only get a result when I run one xsl against the xml, if I try adding new xsl and new Transform instances, I get a whole host of errors. The bits in bold are what i'm adding to run a second transformation against original xml file, with a new stylesheet. Where am I going wrong?
    Here's my code:
    // create the XML content input source:
    String xmlInputFile = getFilepathdoc();
    Source xmlSource = new StreamSource(new FileInputStream(xmlInputFile));
    // create the XSLT Stylesheet input source
    String xsltInputFile1 = DefaultValues.xsl1;
    Source xsltSource1 = new StreamSource(new
    FileInputStream(xsltInputFile1));
    String xsltInputFile3 = DefaultValues.xsl3;
    Source xsltSource3 = new StreamSource(new
    FileInputStream(xsltInputFile3));
    // create the result target of the transformation
    // appends file
    String xmlOutputFile = DefaultValues.text1;
    Result transResult = new StreamResult(new FileOutputStream(xmlOutputFile,true));
    // create the transformerfactory & transformer instance
    TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer t = tf.newTransformer(xsltSource1);
    TransformerFactory tf3 = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer t3 = tf3.newTransformer(xsltSource3);
    // execute transformation & fill result target object
    t.transform(xmlSource, transResult);
    t3.transform(xmlSource, transResult);
    Thanks

    The XSL stylesheets (xsltSource1 and xsltSource3) pose no problem at all. It is only the XML document to be transformed (xmlSource) that can cause problems if you supply its content in a stream-based object like an InputStream or a Reader. To clarify what I mean, here are a few examples.
    1. Multiple XSL transformation using multiple instances of stream-based source objects
    a) Instantiation with an InputStream:...

    t.transform(xmlSource1, transResult);

    Source xmlSource = new StreamSource("file:C:/xmlInputFile.xml");
    t.transform(xmlSource, transResult);
    t3.transform(xmlSource, transResult);

  • XML Stylesheet

    Dear All
    I am doing a simple proxy to file scenario in which I have to generate an XML in the end. Using the existing structure I have creatd the xsd and imported it as an external def.
    Now a requirement has come that I have to put the stylesheet strength:
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href ="../attachments/Config/SiteReport_html.xsl"?>
    But when I am generating XSD after adding this tag afer <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>  I cannot see it both in the xsd and in my final xml output.
    How can I add this in the output xml file
    Sourabh

    Used a custom Java mapping to solve this problem

  • Reliable file upload using JDev, AS and other

    Hello,
    I'm not sure this is the right place to post this message, sorry if I was wrong to put it here.
    The question is our company is developing software, for active data exchange with other systems. We decided to exchange in xml format, by means of both web services and web interface (so that exchange could happen both automatically and on user request). We use JDev to develop, Oracle AS to deploy application. Systems we exchange can use various platforms, in fact, it doesn't matter what exactly they use. The question is we need a reliable way to exchange large (sometimes small, but can be 1Gb or, for example, 10Gb) files, maybe with appropriate security, so that it could continue if something happens with network connection.
    One simple decision is to have a web service that accepts, for example, 100K at a time, and another service continuously calls it until file is transfered. So it can check response code. But are there better decisions? I think, there are libraries or smth like this?
    Thanks in advance, believe, it's a right place to get help.
    Valeriy

    Another, simpler (we think), such package is Jenkov HTTP Multipart File Upload. It's a servlet filter which can work in front of both servlets and JSP's. The servlet filter parses the uploaded file and stores it temporarily on the servers disk. When the servlet or JSP executes afterwards, it can obtain all the information about the file, from the request attributes. There is a decent manual for HTTP Multipart File Upload on the website.
    Just search for "Jenkov HTTP Multipart" on Google and you'll find it. HTTP Multipart is free, open source, Apache Licsense.

  • Unable to transform XML with XSL in java code

    Hi,
    Could somebody please tell me what's wrong with my code, why it isn't transform the XML with XSL to the output that I want. If I use the command line to transform the XML, it output perfectly:
    java org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process -in marc.xml -xsl MARC21slim2MODS.xsl -out out.xml
    Here is the code of my program to transform the XML with XSL, I am using xalan-j_2_2-bin:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
    import javax.xml.parsers.*;
    import javax.xml.transform.*;

    import javax.xml.transform.dom.*;
    import java.math.BigInteger;
    String xslDoc = "MODS.xsl";
    String xmlResult = "out.xml";
    DocumentBuilderFactory dfactory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    dfactory.setNamespaceAware(true);
    DocumentBuilder docBuilder = dfactory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document xmlDoc = docBuilder.newDocument();
    Element root = xmlDoc.createElement("collection");
    root.setAttribute("xmlns", "http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim");
    xmlDoc.appendChild(root);
    TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer transformer = factory.newTransformer(new StreamSource(xslDoc));
    FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(new File(xmlResult));
    StreamResult output = new StreamResult(fw);
    transformer.transform(new DOMSource(xmlDoc), output);
    fw.flush();
    fw.close();

    I am using the same XSL file. My Java program use the same XSL file I used in the command line.
    It is possible that my Java code is using a different parser, but I developed a seperate program to parse the XML using the same parser that my Java code is using. It output the result I expected. Here is the code for the program:
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.xml.transform.*;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.*;
    public class Convertor {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    String xslDoc = "MARC21slim2MODS.xsl";
    String xmlResult = "out.xml";
    String xmlDoc = marc.xml";
    TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer transformer = factory.newTransformer(new StreamSource(xslDoc));
    StreamSource xmlSource = new StreamSource(xmlDoc);
    FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(new File(xmlResult));
    StreamResult output = new StreamResult(fw);
    transformer.transform(xmlSource, output);
    }

  • How to retreive the modified XML data?

    Hi..
    i had a problem in retrieving the modified xml data.
    Iam using apache's DOMParser
    In the my class my xml data is stored in a string.so i used following statement to read xml data from that string:
    String abc="<? xml version=... some data goes here"
    InputSource in=new InputSource(new ByteArrayInputStream(abc.getBytes()));
              DOMParser domParser = new DOMParser();
              domParser.parse(in);
              Document doc = domParser.getDocument();
              Element root = doc.getDocumentElement();
    and i did some operations like adding ,removing and replacing elements etc.
    It was fine when the checked the data.
    but..i need my modified xml data as String.
    is there any method to retrieve the modified xml data "as it is" in String?

    You can use XMLSerializer.
    Here is an example that dump your document on the console:
    OutputFormat formatter = new OutputFormat();
    formatter.setPreserveSpace(true);
    XMLSerializer serializer =
    new XMLSerializer(System.out, formatter);
    serializer.serialize(doc);
    where doc is your Document.
