Using JPQL in a JDO Enviroment

Hello,
is there any way to use JPQL in a JDO enviroment. That means with a JDO PMF and PC-classes with JDO Metadata. The reason why I'm asking for, in our Enviroments it cost a lot of effort to migrate all the Metadata and Querys. The functionality of the JPQL language seems to me growing very fast and quickly, when I compare to JDO-QL. Our projects will have a great benefit if we could switch at runtime.
regards
Marcus

Hello,
thanks garcia for clearify my request. What you 've described is exactly what I'm interestes in.
Just a word to the charater of Query languages. The more important question of using languages is solving the business problems. I'like the JDO language, but sometimes it is not enough especialy when deep functionality of set or relational operations is needed. So JPQL is a good      supplementation to JDOQL, in my opinion both are nessecary.
I've done some research in the openjpa code, it should be possible to create a query from type "javax.persistence.JPQL" on a JDO persitancemanager, because the brokerimpl.class, which is the internal persistencemanger knows all the query languages.
So Yun can you please forward these question to the developers?

  • More info needed about using wifi in high reflective enviroment

    I am looking for documents about using wifi in highly reflective enviroments: rooms with aluminium floor, walls and ceiling en very little materials that absorb rf. (cleanroom enviroment)
    Any hints are appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply Mat,
    The cleanroom enviroment (ASML semiconductor industry) is a large room about 30 * 60 meter and 7m high. In this room are smaller cabinets (about 20) where the actual work is done. Here you can see some pictures:
    http://www.brecon.nl/images/brecon_brochure.pdf
    In full production there are about 120 engineers working with their 802.11b/g equipped laptops.
    Every wall, floor, ceiling, door is made with aluminium sandwich panels. We have major troubles getting a reliable wifi enviroment, and also DECT and GSM telefony is hardly working at all.
    Right now we have 10 AP's is the large room, and we are contemplating installing 1 AP in every cabinet with low power setting and using attenuators. We are also considering the use of leaky coaxial cable.
    Migrating to 802.11N is not really an option since the clients are b/g equipped.
    I will upload a plan soon.

  • How to use Identity Map in distribution enviroment

    Identity map ensure that each object only loads one from db.
    It creates a map to store each object before others use this. I make this map as static for that class.
    Then how could I use it in distribution enviroment. As this class in another server doesn't have this record.

    How it control the concurrency
    problem?Obviously, that is an implementation issue. And not an easy one to solve.
    What's really usage for identity Map?Probably in a non-distributed, low-thread environment. Especially one where the developer has some control over the threads, which is not found in distributed environments.
    I am a new one for study pattern. and I haven't
    clearly picture for these things. especially in
    work..Oh, you've probably used them - you just didn't know you did. My favorite pattern: StateMachine. I have absolutely no idea how many times I implemented that particular pattern before I even knew what it was called.

  • Querying a field of Date type using JPQL

    How can i do a JPA Query passing a date whithout using the setParameter method of the Query interface? Something like this:
    SELECT entityX FROM EntityX entityX WHERE entityX.date = to_date('mm-DD-yyyy','01-01-2007')
    Thanks!

    it is not possible to do date.
    I have encountered that problems too.
    Maybe you should use createNativeQuery method
    to_date function is used in PL/SQL, not in JPQL

  • Using ABAP FM in hana enviroment

    Hi Experts,
    I am quite beginner to HANA,while reading about the process of creating procedures(ABAP) in HANA,this comes in my mind that can we call FM of abap in hana procedures?If we can, then BAPI's can also be called in hana procedures?

    Hi Pankaj,
    HANA modelling (use of HANA views or Stored procedures) was primarily introduced to push the code down from Application layer to HANa d/b layer and in turn to reduce the load on the Application server.
    Typical use cases for ABAP on HANA would be any ABAP program/report has any data intensive calculations and has Performance issues while handling huge amounts of data (few tables may run into Million records). Within these programs, one can identify hot spots (that typically take a very long time for execution) by using SAP Tools and model this part of code through Code push down by creating HANA artifacts - HANA views or Stored procedures and consume these back in the original ABAP program. This will improve performance of the ABAP program to a great extent.
    Hence it does not make sense to have the possibility of calling Function Modules or BAPIs (coded in ABAP) in hana procedures, and hence it is technically not feasible to do so. Alternately , you can create the logic of the FM and/or BAPI if required in the HANA artifacts itself, depending on the business requirement.

  • Re: Using SAP QM & PM for Enviro monitoring for items like water, rooms

    I am also using functional location and using the PM as a task list to generate an inspection lot (14).  However, I am having issues getting  the inspection lot to have a end date. The lots are only generating a 0 day cycle time for the lab.

    Hope, Inspection start date & End date falls on same date.
    Think, its being copied from PM Order Basic Start date & End Date in Header.
    If you want to have some date period, you can make use of Priority field in Maintenance Plan (if you are generating orders through plan). Else, select the priority in Calibration PM Order directly.
    Still, you face that problem, check the Scheduling Parameters for the Order type & Plant combination. Maintain some no. of hours in operation & do the scheduling in order.

  • How to use Mail to sent messages when away from home

    How do I have to configure my "Mail" on my PowerBook G-4 (OS 10.4.5) in order to use it in a WIFI enviroment?
    At home when connected via Airport to my own Outgoing Mail Server (smtp 8. sympatico.ca) I have absolutely no problems. However, last year I was on a Cruise Ship and tried to use the existing WiFi System. I could receive messages using Mail, but I could not send messages using Mail.
    At the moment I'm visiting my son in the Boston area and I'm having the same problem. I was forced to use the Sympatico Web Mail in order to sent E-mail messages. (receiving mail using "Mail", represents no problem)
    There has to be a way to configure Mail to originate messages and sent them as well, but I cannot find anything which tells me how to do that.
    The version presently installed for Mail is 2.0.7.
    Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated!
    Best Regards,
    Hank
    iMac 20 G-5, 768 of RAM; 12 PowerBook G-4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hank,
    The problem here is your ISP (looks like its Sympatico) blocking connections to their mail server from computers not connected directly to their network. I wouldn't blame your ISP though b/c as I understand it almost ALL ISPs block these type of connections to cut down on SPAM being sent.
    What you need to do is to find the outgoing mail server for the network you are on.
    For example, if you look on the "Mail" settings on your Son's computer and note his "Outing Mail Server" (in the "Accounts" pain of "Mail" prefs) settings and then go to your machine and put in that same "Outgoing Mail Server" info then you should be fine.
    You can do this on your machine by selecting "Add Server..." from the "Outgoing Mail Server" drop down menu. When the window comes up just type in the same settings your Son uses. If he does not have a machine with mail setup on it then you can call his ISP and they'll tell you.
    Remember to switch the "outgoing mail server" back to your home server when you return home. By the way, most places (like hotels) will give you their outgoing mail server info if you ask them, so next time you're on a cruise with wifi you might try asking the IT people.
    Best of luck,
    Allen

  • TopLink Essentials: Using spring session scope on the EntityManagerFactory

    Hi,
    In one of our projects we are trying to utilize the 2nd level cache of TopLink Essentials. The server code is using the Spring (2.0.7) and is deployed to a web container. We are using a Java client and serializes every object between the client and the server.
    When a client is started a lot of "static/common" data is read from the server. The first client started will therefor pay some extra performance cost, but additional clients should hopefully be able to perform better due to the cache. Most of the static data is accessed not using JPQL and should therefor not bypass the cache.
    If we configure the EntityManagerFactory using default Spring scoping (singleton) it seems like we are not able to utilize the cache. We can see from the log files that each time a client is started a lot of SQL is executed towards the database (Oracle).
      <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean">
        <property name="dataSource" ref="dataSource" />
        <property name="jpaVendorAdapter">
          <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.vendor.TopLinkJpaVendorAdapter">
            <property name="showSql" value="false" />
            <property name="generateDdl" value="$repository{toplink.generateDdl}" />
            <property name="database" value="$repository{toplink.database}" />
          </bean>

        <property name="jpaProperties">

            <prop key="toplink.logging.level">FINEST</prop>
          </props>
        </property>
      </bean>When we changes the scoping to spring session the behavior is very different. Then we can see that the first client generates a lot of SQL towards the database and pays a startup cost, while subsequently clients seems to be able to utilize the cache.
      <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean" scope="session">
        <aop:scoped-proxy />
        <property name="dataSource" ref="dataSource" />

            <property name="database" value="$repository{toplink.database}" />
          </bean>
        </property>
        <property name="jpaProperties">

            <prop key="toplink.weaving">static</prop>
            <prop key="toplink.logging.level">FINEST</prop>
          </props>
        </property>
      </bean>Having read the documentation of the spring session scope I'm having a hard time explaining this behavior. As I understand it the EntityManagerFactory will be stored in the HTTP session resulting in a new EntityManagerFactory for each session. I cannot understand how this may result in that we are able to utilize the 2nd level cache? What are the relationship between the EntityManagerFactory and the 2nd level cache?
    Is this an accepted way of configuring the EntityManagerFactory or will there be a downside?
    I hope someone are able to explain this behavior for me:-)
    Best regards,
    Rune

    Hi Rune,
    To understand the shared cache behavior you actually need to understand more about what TopLink Essentials does than what Spring does. When a new factory is created, TopLink Essentials actually just proxies the server session with a factory instance, so the same server session is used. This is why you are seeing the same cache used across multiple factories of the same session.
    In the first case, if you are not using JPQL then what are you using to load the data and why are you thinking that it will not bypass the cache?
    Using a factory instance for each session is not what I would recommend doing as there are some additional costs associated with establishing a factory (even though the session already exists). The first way should be the correct way, I am just not sure what the circumstances are that are causing your cache to not be warmed. You may want to post more details about that so people can better help you out with that angle.

  • How can I use TrueSequenceFactory with multiple sequences

    In the post "How to use existing Oracle sequences using KODO" answered
    by Marc Prud'hommeaux a "sample code" was given. But seems to me that
    example will only work with a single Oracle sequence for the entire
    system. Is this right?
    How can I use TrueSequenceFactory with primary-keys and their
    respective existing sequences? Can you (SolarMetric guys) provide me a
    sample code?

    The problem is that you are using application-identity. When you
    specify an objectid-class, we treat is automatically as application
    identity. To resolve this, I would recommend removing both the
    objectid-class and identity-type atributes from your class. With
    "objectid-class" in place, we asssume that you wil take care of identity.

    Well, I'll show what I have...
    This is the script of my table:
    CREATE TABLE LINEUP_VOYAGE (
    VOYAGEID NUMBER (10) NOT NULL,
    VESSEL_NAME VARCHAR2 (1000) NOT NULL,
    CONSTRAINT PK_LINEUP_VOYAGE

    identity-type="datastore">
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="table" value="LINEUP_VOYAGE"/>
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="sequence"

    <field name="vesselName">
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="data-column"
    value="VESSEL_NAME"/>
    </field>
    <!--field name="id" primary-key="true">
    <extension vendor-name="kodo" key="data-column"
    value="VOYAGEID"/>
    </field-->
    </class>
    As you can see, the "id" field is commented.
    And this is my class:
    package br.com.fertimport.entity;
    import java.util.*;
    public class LineupVoyage {
         private String vesselName;
    //     private long id;
    //     public LineupVoyage(long id) { this.id = id; }
    //     public long getId() { return id; }
    //     public void setId(long id) { this.id = id; }
         public String getVesselName() { return vesselName; }
         public void setVesselName (String vesselName) { this.vesselName =
    vesselName; }
    The "id" attribute is commented.
    Now the questions...
    To use ClassSequenceFactory must the identity-type of my entities be
    application or datastore?
    Is the "objectid-class" parameter required in this case?
    As you see, all references to the "id" property are commented. Can I
    use this property to represent my object id?
    If not, how can I identify my object with something like a long?
    The last question is related to my architecture: one VM with the EJBs
    (entity and session) and another VM with the web classes and JSPs,
    connected by a session facade. I don't want to use any Kodo or JDO stuff
    in the web tier. Is this possible?

  • Jpql, join on?

    a simplified example:
    i have two tables, dog and cat, there are not foreign key reference between them. i use openJPA to implement jpa mapping, and two entities are generated: Catty and Doggy. and there are not reference between these two objects too.
    but in my app, i want to implement join query. something like following in NATIVE SQL:
    select from dog d join cat c on d.age = c.age.*
    it works on my db2.
    so i use jpql like following:
    SELECT d FROM Doggy d JOIN Catty c ON d.age = c.age.
    unfortunately, the jpql throw exception. similar with following:
    org.apache.openjpa.persistence.ArgumentException: Encountered "JOIN Catty c" at character xx, but expected: [".", "FETCH", "INNER", "JOIN", "LEFT", <IDENTIFIER>].
    question:
    1 what is the problem of my jpql?
    2 while i use join in jpql, is it mandatory to define a reference attribute to other object in first object?
    3 does jpql support "ON" key word. i have checked jpql manual, it seem it is not preserved?
    thanks

    On is not supported. You should have posted your relationship definititions as well. you have have Collection<Cat> in the Dog entity?
    i.e INNER JOIN is done on relationships. Otherwise you are stuck with the theta join
    SELECT d FROM Doggy d, Cat c WHERE d.age = c.age

  • Kodo JDO with JCA provided by Jencks in Tomcat

    I'm trying to use both JDO and JCR (Apache's Jackrabbit) in my project. Both support XA
    Transactions, and my understanding is that to best ensure data integrity, I should start using them.
    Currently, I'm running under Tomcat using the SpringFramework support for transactions. I'd like to
    continue running in Tomcat because I already understand that environment and the other app-servers
    all feel heavyweight by comparison - all I need is JNDI and XA Transactions. Tomcat itself doesn't
    support XA Transactions and JCA, but the open source project jencks is able to provide JCA support
    within Tomcat.
    I've been looking at the Deployment section of the JDO reference guide (Chapter 8). If I'm reading
    this right, all I need to do is set two properties in the jdo.properties file: kodo.TransactionMode
    and kodo.ManagedRuntime.
    I've done that in my project:
    kodo.TransactionMode: managed
    kodo.ManagedRuntime: invocation(
    TransactionManagerMethod=edu.ucsc.whisper.transaction.KodoTransactionAccess.getTransactionManager )
    The getTransactionManager() is a static function that returns the
    javax.transaction.TransactionManager provided by Spring's JtaTransactionManager.
    I have a unit test that checks the application's initialization process, and I've been using that to
    work my way into JCA transactions. Based on that test, this seems to be working. My question is this:
    Is it really that simple?
    Don't get me wrong, I'll be thrilled if it is, but from everything I'm seeing about configuring the
    "Big Iron" app servers (WebLogic, JBoss, etc.), it just seems like adding two properties is too easy
    and that I'm probably missing something significant in the process. Can anyone confirm whether or
    not I'm on the right track here?
    I'm working on setting this up for my heavier-duty integration tests, but I'm concerned that if I am
    missing something, I've done just enough to fake Kodo out and that it isn't actually working under
    the hood.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    I would be surprised if your transaction manager and JDBC driver
    configured themselves for XA automatically, since it imposes some
    overhead and is rarely actually needed. In particular, you typically
    need an XADataSource for XA transactions, rather than just using the
    standard JDBC driver through the DriverManager (as Kodo does internally
    when you specify ConnectionDriverName). So I suggest you consult their
    documentation. As far as Kodo is concerned, though, as long as you've
    set the TransactionMode, ManagedRuntime,
    DataSourceMode/ConnectionFactoryMode (depending on Kodo version), and
    are using an XA DataSource, you are all set.Hi Abe,
    I've been able to get Spring configured so that it uses its JtaTransactionManager, and I have Kodo
    setup with the TransactionMode as Managed and the ManagedRuntime is configured to use a static
    method I created that returns the TransactionManager. In my logs, I can see Kodo accessing a
    non-null instance of the TransactionManager class through this method. The problem that I'm getting
    is that the behavior in my unit and integration tests is different than the behavior I'm seeing when
    running in Tomcat, even though the Spring and Kodo configuration are nearly identical (Kodo accesses
    a different database in Tomcat than it does in testing, other than that, the configuration is the
    same). All the unit and integration tests pass; this requires transactions to be created, data
    written to the database through Kodo, and then read back through Kodo in a new transaction. When I
    deploy the web-app to Tomcat though, Kodo suddenly thinks its running without transactions. Reading
    from the database works fine because I've got non-transactional reads turned on, but as soon as I
    try to alter any field of a persisted object, Kodo throws an InvalidStateException saying it doesn't
    have a transaction. I've included my log output below to demonstrate.
    The only thing I haven't done yet, based on your previous message, is configure my database driver
    for access through JNDI within Tomcat. Would that cause errors like this, or should I be looking
    elsewhere?
    My jdo.properties file contains these settings:
    # For use of JDOHelper
    javax.jdo.PersistenceManagerFactoryClass: kodo.jdo.PersistenceManagerFactoryImpl
    # For Kodo JDO 4.0 EA2 and higher
    javax.jdo.option.Connection2DriverName: org.postgresql.Driver
    javax.jdo.option.Connection2UserName: ------------
    javax.jdo.option.Connection2Password: ------------
    javax.jdo.option.Connection2URL: jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/my_db
    javax.jdo.option.Optimistic: true
    javax.jdo.option.RetainState: true
    javax.jdo.option.NontransactionalRead: true
    kodo.FlushBeforeQueries=true
    # For JCA Transaction support
    kodo.TransactionMode: managed
    kodo.ManagedRuntime: invocation(
    TransactionManagerMethod=edu.ucsc.whisper.transaction.KodoTransactionAccess.getTransactionManager )

  • How to deal with enviroment change?

    I want to publish my webi report to product enviroment from test enviroment, but there are lots of drill down report use the URL in test enviroment. How should I minimize my workload? Is there a mechanism, such as global variable, can store the machine name/IP for all report in BOE?

    Assuming all reports are on the same server you shoud try not to include the hostname in your URL.
    eg. Instead of
    http://myhost/OpenDocument/openDoc/openDocument.jsp?iDOcID=xxxxxx
    use the following URL
    /OpenDocument/openDoc/openDocument.jsp?iDOcID=xxxxxx

  • Install and set up Developer Enviroment

    Hi, ALL:
    I am a new user for ORACLE. I am going to buy a powerful PC and
    install the ORACLE8 on windows 95 or LINUX for learning. But I
    don't know what products I should download to install and set up
    the enviroment for creating database,queries,forms and reports.
    When I took my database course at school, I also did a project
    using oralce. But the enviroment was set up by DBA. Now, I have
    to do it by myself.
    Can any help me to get start using ORACLE8? Thanks.

    If you setup an "archtype" for each type of computer, PPC, Intel mainly, I think that will be enough. The amount of RAM is unimportant but must be enough to meet the specs in order to run Leopard.
    The only other items might be the graphics cards, but if you get 90% of the computers running using a few archtypes, then you can do the others manually.

  • JPQL HOWTO:  "join" entities without foreign/primary keys?

    I have entities Person and Representative.
    Entity Person has fields lastName, firstName and patronymic.
    Entity Representative has field named title.
    The task is:
    Select all Persons and Representatives where representative.title contains Person.firstName, Person.lastName and person.patronymic.
    Person can have several representatives.
    Person and Representative don't have any keys. Is it possible to do it using JPQL or it's better to use native sql query?

    I've tried something like this one:
    public class PersonAndRepresentatives {
         private Person person;
         private List<Representative> representatives;
    //my query:
                    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
                 sb.append("select new model.stateless.helperobject.PersonAndRepresentatives(p, repr) from Person p, Representative repr");
              sb.append(" where repr.title like p.firstName and repr.title like p.lastName");
              sb.append(" group by person.id");
              List<PersonAndRepresentatives> resultList = em.createQuery(sb.toString()).getResultList();But of course, I get exception on "*,*" which is here: "*from Person p, Representative repr*".
    What can I do?
    Seems like it's better to write native query and do not try to solve the problem using JPQL.

  • Problem with running bitmap report in Oracle 6i

    Hello,
    I am running a report from a form using run_product in client/server enviroment. And I use the same code in all forms that run reports. In test enviroment, everything works normally. But in customer enviroment there is weird behaviour. Some reports need a lot of time to be executed, and when they are finally finished, report previewer is not maximized as it is in test enviroment. And more important problem is that one report doesn't execute at all. Report background engine is started but report doesn't come out at all.
    Here is code which I use to run reports:
    declare
    izvestaj      varchar2(15);
    pListName varchar2(20) := 'parList';
    dt      varchar2(6) := 'Screen';
    pList      paramlist;
    BEGIN
    izvestaj := 'EBS12';
    begin
    pList := get_parameter_list(pListName);
    if not id_null(pList) then
    destroy_parameter_list(pList);
    end if;
    pList := create_parameter_list(pListName);
    if (not id_null(pList)) then
    add_parameter(pList, 'P_PREDUZECE', text_parameter, to_char(:kontrolni.preduzece_id));
    add_parameter(pList, 'P_PRENOS', text_parameter, to_char(:prenos.id));
    add_parameter(pList, 'P_RAD', text_parameter, :prenos.chk_radnik);

    add_parameter(pList, 'PARAMFORM', text_parameter,'NO');
    add_parameter(pList,'DESTYPE',text_parameter,dt);
    run_product(reports, izvestaj, synchronous, runtime, filesystem, pList, null);
    end if;
    exception
    when others then
    set_alert_property('cfg_error',alert_message_text,'Poziv izveštaja nije uspeo! '||sqlerrm);
    if (alert_button1=show_alert('cfg_error')) then null;
    end if;
    raise form_trigger_failure;

    Is it maybe some enviroment settings problem and if yes, what should I pay attention on?
    Tnx in advance,

    Hello,
    When you put a block on a "new stacked canvas" that canvas is generated as a popup canvas. If that popup overlaps with some other generated items (for instance: items in master block) Forms will not show it.
    You can try showing that popup canvas programatically with Show_View('canvas_name') in When-New-Form-Instance and see what happens.
    Dalibor
    P.S. Why do you have to put detail block on a popup canvas? Why don't you simply put it on a "same content canvas"?
