Using JSP to stream XML to a Oracle Report .jsp file

I created some Oracle Reports for a pdf output. Using these reports can I stream a URL XML file to it from a JSP XML read from a database? I would like to use JSP's to read the datbase and then stream the XML to the JSP report (Oracle Report Server). Is this possible?
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

I was able to hard code a URL running XSQL which created XML and it worked great. Then I created a Oracle Report and saved it as a JSP file. With this JSP file can you feed it XML from another JSP process that reads the database? I looked at using something like inputstream coding in this JSP report file. I am new to JSP's and Java so any examples would be great.
What I am tring to do is change the JSP file with diffent values each time I run the report and I do not want to read from the database at report generation time. I would like to input the data from a JSP streamed process that would stream the XML to the report JSP with out hard coding the URL in the report data source. Is this possible?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
    I am trying to deploy and run a report created using oracle Report tool(comes with oracle 10g developer suite). I did the below steps.
    1. I created a web layout report in oracle reports tool.
    2. Open Jdeveloper (which comes in developer suite).
    3. Create a new project in Jdeveloper. selected to create new "report component" from new. Copied my oracle report to this jsp page.(Report run time was automatically added to the libraries of the project created)
    4. Run using embedded oc4j and report was successfully run.
    5. Created a deployment profile for WAR. Created a war successfully. Then created an EAR.
    6. Right click deployment profile and configured standalone oc4j connected(connection1). Tested the connection. The test connection was success.
    7. Then right clicked the deployement profile and clicked deploy to connection1.
    8. The EAR file was deployed but in the standalone OC4J, it is showing few errors.

  • How to use LIKE function with a parameter in Oracle REPORT builder??

    how could i use parameter inside a LIKE function in Oracle reports builder?
    it works in SQL plus, but not in report builder!!
    Example:
    select code,desc from item_master where desc
    like '%&give_desc%'; ---works in SQL
    like '%:give_desc%' ---doesn't work in report builder!!

    Hi Renil,
    You will need to use the wildcard character (%) and the concatenation character (||) to join to your user parameter.
    i.e. like '%'||:give_desc||'%'

  • Use JDBC to Access XML Documents in Oracle XML DB

    Hi folks,
    From the Oracle XML DB Developer's Guide 10g Release 1 (10.1) Chapter 12 Java API for XMLType, it show several examples for how java application use JDBC to access xml in XMLDB:
    1. use getOPAQUE() on XMLTYPE table/column and then call XMLTYPE.createXML();
    2. use getCLOBVal()/getStringVal()/getBLOBVal() in SQL statement;
    3.use getObject on the result and cast directly to XMLType;
    Among these 3 options, which is supposed to be the fastest way? Any difference between thin and oci?
    I have run some tests about that and the result is the second option (with thin driver) is the fastest. It surprises me because I think oci should be faster than thin. Does the result make sense?
    Thanks.

    Have you tried to trace your sessions to see how much work is happening? Traces should give you quantifiable information on exact times and access paths to the data.

  • Using Web Service as Data source (Pluggable Data Source) in Oracle Reports

    Anyone using Webservice as a pluggable data source in oracle 10g reports.(Report builder version:10.1.2.0.2)? We need to be able to use web service as one of the data source to create reports.Tried the following and ran into issues:
    Imported the wspds.jar fle from oracle plugin exchage. When tried using it received the following error in oracle reports trace file.
    04/26 22:27:22 java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.xml.parser.schema.XSDBuilder.build([Loracle/xml/parser/v2/XMLDocument;Ljava/net/URL;)Ljava/lang/Object;
    By troubleshooting issue found out that xmlparserv2.jar in 10g is newer than xmlparserv2.jar in 9i. wspds.jar is using xmlparserv2.jar in 9i as it was developed and tested for 9i only. Believe there is no newer wspds.jar file developed specifically for 10g?
    Is there a better/standard solution to use webservice as data source in oracle 10g reports? Does later version of oracle reports supports webservice as a data source without any additional plugins? Any suggestion would be helpful.

    Please provide support for the above request.
    It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

  • Oracle Report vs JSP efficiency and Excel XML in Web Source Questions

    I have used Oracle Reports in the past 6i, but haven't used them in about 4 years. We are now using 9.0.4 reports and I am trying to generate Excel XML from an Oracle report by manipulating the web source of the report. Basically copying and pasting the Excel XML into the web source of the Oracle Report instead of html as suggested by this Metalink Doc ID 240819.1. I do have a JSP working example that generates Excel XML created in JDeveloper and successfully spawns off a very nice looking Excel spreadsheet.
    However, a statement was made here by our app sever guy that an Oracle Report is more efficient at getting data from the database than a JSP. The app sever section does not want anyone using JSPs to generate a report of any kind. I guess small web pages are OK since our java guys use them all the time. This rule for a Reports only environment seems a little restrictive to me. Is there any truth to the statement that Oracle Reports bulk collects data in one chunk as opposed to a JSP making multiple trips to the database from the middle tier?
    Secondly, if an Oracle Report is more efficient in the way that it collects large record sets from the db, and if I save an Oracle Report as a JSP not an rdf, and use the reports_tld.jar with the rw tags instead of the typical jsp jstl tags, will I still get the same improvement from using an Oracle report? I guess the improvement is in the library used correct?
    Thirdly, although not part of this forum, I also am assuming that if we have single sign on that when I call a JSP from an Oracle Form I will not have to log in again correct?
    Thanks...

    It could be the configuration issue. Reconfigure the engine.

  • How to use Oracle Reports in an enterprise app, wrt file i/o?

    How are people architecting their enterprise applications to make use of Oracle Reports, with respect to transmission of the output?
    Do you have session beans which call the Oracle Reports JSP pages, and have them write the output to file names, the names of which you then transmit to the web layer? Alternatively, is there any practical way to "stream" the output directly from the EJB layer to the web layer and to the client?

    Hello David,
    When you call the report server via an URL, with DESTYPE=CACHE, the output is directly sent to the web browser.
    I am not sure to well understand you question, but if you want to control the report from a session bean, you can write a bean that call report server with an URL and get the output. Today, we do not have any EJB to control Oracle Reports.
    I am interested by the type of beans/architecture you would like to see in Reports, could you please send me a detailled example of a type of bean you would like to have ? ([email protected])

  • Passing data from JSP to Oracle Reports

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to query and display data in JSP pages and when clicked on 'Report' button of the JSP, an Oracle report should be called.
    The data which is queried in JSP should be passed to the Oracle report. Is there any way of doing it? This is to avoid re-querying the database again from Oracle Reports.
    Environment: jdk1.3, Oracle Application Server 9i, Oracle 9i, Report 6i

  • Excel Report JSP Exception

    Hello All,
    I am unsuccessfully following the "Output to Excel with Oracle9i Report" tutorial found at http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/demonstrations/index.html to create a web-based JSP report that automatically opens in Excel within the browser. I created the template using Excel, saved this as a web page, opened this in Reports Builder, etc. Once I complete the report in Reports Builder and save it as a Reports JSP, I can successfully run this within Reports Builder using the "Run Web Layout" feature. The problem is when I try to run this JSP within my web-application in JDeveloper using the in-line reports server. The browser launches Excel, but then the ReportsTag.doStartTag() method throws a JspException (see below). Anyone seen this problem or been successful achieving this? I have a normal web-based JSP report that is running fine within JDeveloper using the reports in-line server. Also, the only way I could get my web/paper-based report to be generated in PDF format and Paginated HTML was to start a separate reports server and submit my report to the rwservlet of this server. Shouldn't I be able to use the in-line server in JDeveloper? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Bill
    Let me clarify your doubts. You can use in-process Reports server with report servlet as well as from the jsp engine. The difference here is really on what Reports you can actually run from Reports servlet and jsp engine.
    For running from Report servlet:
    http://xx.x.xx.xxx:9004/reports/rwservlet?reports=...
    You would be using report definition file [rdf/jsp] which have paper layout information included in definition. You can run these paper reports to pdf/html/rtf/delimited/delimitedata format.
    Runnig a reports from jsp engine:
    http://xx.x.xx.xxx:9004/reports/examples/<reports_name.jsp>?server=...+userid=...
    You would be running a report definition [jsp/xml] which have reports jsp tags as part of reports web layout information. Please note these web layout reports which you mention using reports jsp tags, are run under the jspengine using reports tag libraries. The only format you can generate here is html [or excel output].
    Reports in-process server is a concept where if user has not started a exclusive Report server, Report servlet, and also reports tag libraries, would start a default reports server to run the particular request. This way it would make things easy for the user and he would need to manage a seperate report server of it own.
