Using LIKE in a CMP Finder Query

Hi,
am trying to define a finder using LIKE.. the entry in the orion-ejb-jar.xml is as follows:
<entity-deployment name="Tenant" data-source="jdbc/HCInsuranceDS" table="TENANT">
<primkey-mapping>
<cmp-field-mapping>
<fields>
<cmp-field-mapping name="tenant_ref_no" persistence-name="TENANT_REF_NO" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(8)"/>
</fields>
</cmp-field-mapping>
</primkey-mapping>
<cmp-field-mapping name="tenant_ref_no" persistence-name="TENANT_REF_NO" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(8)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="short_name" persistence-name="SHORT_NAME" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(9)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="short_address" persistence-name="SHORT_ADDRESS" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(9)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="name" persistence-name="NAME" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(40)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="address" persistence-name="ADDRESS" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(100)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="town" persistence-name="TOWN" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(25)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="ward" persistence-name="WARD" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(2)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="postcode" persistence-name="POSTCODE" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(9)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="phone_no" persistence-name="PHONE_NO" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(15)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="date_of_birth" persistence-name="DATE_OF_BIRTH" persistence-type="DATE"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="sex" persistence-name="SEX" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(1)"/>
<cmp-field-mapping name="alt_address" persistence-name="ALT_ADDRESS" persistence-type="VARCHAR2(100)"/>
<finder-method partial="True" query="$short_name LIKE $1">
<method>
<ejb-name>Tenant</ejb-name>
<method-name>findByShort_name</method-name>
<method-params>
<method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
</method-params>
</method>
</finder-method>
</entity-deployment>
but all i get back is an empty collection.. if I use the sql directly using sqlplus there is no problem ?? what am i doing wrong ?? can I use like in one of these queries ?? please help ??

• HELP : using UPPER with LIKE in CMP finder??

Hi,
am trying to do a case insensitive wildcard search but am having little luck, if I run the sql query
select * from my_view where UPPER(name) like '%SMI%'; then I get the right results back but when i try to use it in my CMP bean I get nothing unless the case matches.
my xml entry is as below:
<finder-method partial="False" query="SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE UPPER(name) LIKE ?1">
<method>
<ejb-name>View</ejb-name>
<method-name>findByName</method-name>
<method-params>
<method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
</method-params>
</method>
</finder-method>
can anyone help please ?? can I not use UPPER in one of these queries ??
Regards
Rosie

Rosie,
I was able to get this example to work and it is nearly identical to yours. I passed "C%" into the bean and received all the records where the USR_MSG_CTGR_ID field started with "C". Is the problem a data issue? (Does the connection used by the bean use the same database and user ID that you used when you executed the query manually? If not, are they looking at the same table?)
Good luck!
<finder-method partial="False" query="select * from my_usr_msg where upper(usr_msg_ctgr_id) like ?1">
<method>
<ejb-name>My_usr_msg</ejb-name>
<method-name>findByUpperValue</method-name>
<method-params>
<method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
</method-params>
</method>
</finder-method>

• Using "LIKE" in J2EE SQL Query Window

Whats the syntax to define a finder method using the SQL "LIKE" clause in J2EE in the deployment settings of an CMP entity bean...for example lets say I have an entity bean with a primary ket called "PK" and a String data member called "Titile", I've tried:
SELECT "PK" FROM "EntityBeanTable" WHERE "Title" LIKE
%?1%
but that doesn't work...any suggestions?

I believe the solution may be vendor specific. i am using weblogic5.1 and i use CMP entity beans.
Now the if i want a sql with like clause, then i give in the following entries in my
weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml
<finder>
<method-name>findByPrimaryKey</method-name>
<method-params>
<method-param>java.lang.Long</method-param>
</method-params>
<finder-query><![CDATA[ (like acctCode $0)]]></finder-query>
</finder>
for more options please refer u r vendor documentations.

• Using LIKE with a variable in a report query

Probably an stupid question, but I can't find the answer on this forum or by trying. How do use LIKE and a variable together in a query?
The following solutions don't work f.e.:
LIKE :P310_ENTITEITID%
LIKE ':P310_ENTITEITID%'

Hi Elmo
Try '%'||:P310_ENTITEITID||'%'

• Query Custom Object3 using Like

Hi,
A customer has many models attached to him .Each model info is maintained in custom object 3 . We have maintained External Unique Id of model(object3) in the format custno-modelno .So each model is identified uniquely by external unique id. I want to delete all the models of that customer using webservice delete mechanism . Inorder to accomplish that we are query the object based on external unique Id to get all models assigned to the customer and delete . In the query expression tried to use LIKE operator ( ex : find all models for customer 1234; query-expression is 'LIKE 1234-' ). But query does not result all the models .
Can anyone help me on this .We are using ondemand 19

Hi,
Thanks . All the models for a particular customer have customer number - in common. So If the query can give all the models of that customer i can omit all the models using delete operation .
Example :
customer # 1234
model1: t20 externalunique id: 1234 - t20
model2: t40 externalunique id: 1234 - t40
similarly all models of the customer have 1234 - in their external unique Id .So I was trying to perform query using ' LIKE 1234-' here '-' is a wildcard .
But the WS did not give back any result .
Only if we query '1234-t20' then the response document is not null.
I would like to know the query expression in such a scenario.
The WS user trying to perform delete operation has the required permission

• How can I query all the members of a group using querbuilder? I cannot find any related properties

How can I query all the members of a group using querbuilder? I cannot find any related properties describing members under /home/groups/s/sample_group in jcr repository.

Hi,
FieldPoint Explorer is no longer used to configure FieldPoint systems. However, I do not think that the configuring your system in FieldPoint Explorer is causing the error.
FieldPoint systems are now setup in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Information on setting up FieldPoint systems in MAX can be found in the MAX help under: Installed Products>> FieldPoint. Also, I recommend upgrading to the latest FieldPoint driver and version of MAX. The FieldPoint VI's will be slightly different when you upgrade, so there is a good chance that this will eliminate the error.

• Function used to find Query Execution Time

Hi All!
Could you please let me know the function name used in finding 'Query Execution Time'?
Thanks and Regards,
Vikas

I'm not quite sure what you mean...
In SQL*Plus: SET TIMING ON
This will display a timing message after the execution of a query. Is this what you mean?
cheers,
Anthony

• I do not like inbox search and want to use google but i cannot find any way to remove inbox--in fact when i search for it to remove you would think it is not there--but it is and i cant get it off. anyone know how?

Question
i do not like inbox search and want to use google but i cannot find any way to remove inbox--in fact when i search for it to remove you would think it is not there--but it is and i cant get it off. anyone know how? edit
Details

What you should see on a restart is a black screen followed by a screen with the Apple (at which point you let go of the two buttons). There is no progress bar, just the Apple. The Apple will stay there for 15 seconds or so, then the "Slide to Unlock" screen will redisplay.
But, I don't think the reset will fix it for you. I just tested it, and it comes back on with the zoom still on. The only way to get it to zoom out is the tapping with the 3 fingers.
I said to double-tap....MY BAD! You need to triple-tap with three fingers!
Try that and see if it will display the zoom menu for you, or if it will zoom back out.
Cheers,
GB

• Writing CMP Finder SQL Syntax?

What is the syntax for writing the finder SQL for CMP? From the CMP sample code for the OAS it looks like it might be &fieldname <op> $1 (for the first parameter?)?
Joe McDaniel

You can create custom CMP Finder Methods which takes appropriate sql but not SQLJ and JDBC.
i.e if you are adding a custom finder method in orion-ejb-jar.xml it takes only SQL not java code
In JDeveloper select orion-ejb-jar.xml in the project and right-click on it and choose Settings option
Select the Entity bean in the navigator and choose Finder methods
Click on Add. The dialog box will allow to add a new finder method with SQL query
Click on Help for specific information
Couple of hints are
Partial
Whether or not the specified query is a partial one. A partial query is the 'where' clause or the 'order' (if it starts with order) clause of the SQL query.
Queries are partial by default. If partial="false" is specified then the full query is to be entered as value for the query attribute and you need to make sure that the query produces a result-set containing all of the CMP fields. This is useful when doing advances queries involving table joins and similar.
Query
The query part of an SQL statement. This is the section following the WHERE keyword in the statement. Special tokens are $number which denotes an method argument number and $name which denotes a cmp-field name. For instance the query for "findByAge(int age)" would be (assuming the cmp-field is named 'age'): "$1 = $age".
Return type can be collection if the query is returning more than one row of data or it could be the entity bean type itself (if it is only one row)
