Using Lookout to write a decimal point to an RTU in the field.

Is thier a way to send an lookout exp.(ex.1.56) to a known writable register on an RTU out in the field. I am using the modbus object. I plan to send this expression that I have created to a series of regs. in the field and pull the info to a readable screen to display the converted readings from lookout. I want to use lookout to handle the complexed math and send it to the registers. EX. The RTU sends raw data (40003)to lookout. I convert it in an expression and I want to send it to reg(40501) out in the field. Question # 2. I also need to see if I can use a portable laptop in the field that mirrors the main host and is updated when the host updates. This is for the same application above. This is a mobile RTU
if you will. But as you move around in a 70 mile area repeaters change.

Hi,
It's not clear to me what exactly you mean by "you can't send two values to a register."
I am guessing you're trying to write a 32-bit floating point number. If this is the case, then here's how you would do it:
To write a 32-bit floating point value (decimal point), you will have to use the F registers. E.g., F40001. Lookout will then split the value into two 16-bit registers accoring to the IEEE floating point notation and write them in two consecutive registers.
Similarly, when you want Lookout to interpret two (consecutive) 16-bit registers in your PLC as a single 32-bit floating point number, you will use the F registers.
For a detailed description of all this please see the following two articles:

  • Currency Decimal Points - Urgent

    Hi,
    I am facing a serious problem with currency decimal points. Unfortunately "Currency code" has been deleted from where we can maintain currency decimal points in OY04 Tcode and the currency code was maintained by zero decimal places. Before deleting the Currency from decimal points the document currency was showing $1000.00 which is correct. But after deleting Currency Code from OY04 Tcode the same amount is showing $100000 by combining decimals.
    I have again given same Currency Code in same transaction code. But still it is showing ($100000) the amount by combing the decimals.
    Please help me
    Thanks
    Ravindra

    You said someone "unfortunately" deleted an entry from table TCURX.  Has that someone seen all the following WARNINGS given by SAP!!!
    In a productive system, you must not delete the currencies in use or change the decimal places.  This could make amounts in documents already posted incorrect or invalid.
    Before you continue, please read the following text carefully.  If you do not heed this note, you can cause irreparable damage to the system with this transacton.  In the R/3 System tables currency fields are stored as decimal figures with a variable number of decimal places. The decimal point is not stored in the field in the database. Instead, each currency field refers to a currency key field. In this transaction you assign the number of decimal places to this currency key uniquely.  Example: If you have set currency USD to have two decimal places and you post an amount of 100 USD, an amount of 10000 USD is stored in the currency field in the database. Not until this amount is processed further or is output does the system use the currency key from the reference field to determine the number of decimal places via this table. In this way the table content can be interpreted correctly for further processing or formatted for output with the correct punctuation.  If after posting you changed the number of decimal places for USD, for example, to 3, the existing field content of 10000 would be interpreted for futher processing or output as 10 USD (10.000). This would mean that the contents of tables across the system would, for all currency fields containing an amount in USD, be interpreted incorrectly by 10 per cent. To
    change the number of decimal places for a currency already in use, you must convert all the tables in the R/3 System that contain
    currency fields, so that the data integrity remains. This cannot, however, for both organizational reasons and under the runtime aspect be carried out in a productive system.  The following changes to the TCURX table can thus lead to the loss of data integrity if you
    make the changes in a productive system or transport them into a productive system:
    o Change to the number of decimal places of an existing currency
    o Deletion of an entry from the TCURX table (corresponds to changing the decimal places to the standard value of two decimal places)
    o Insertion of an entry in the TCURX (corresponds to changing the standard value of 2 decimal places to a different value), if this is a currency code that already exists Uncritical changes are any made to this table during the Customizing of a new installation or the insertion of TCURX even during operations, if the currency codes have just been entered in the TCURC table using transaction OY03, signifying that no postings to these currency codes can have been carried out yet.
    Do you want to change the decimal places despite all recommendations?

  • How to use os x yosemite calculator - need decimal points

    I updated to OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2 for my Mac.  I cannot figure out how to use the calculator!  All I want is to add dollars and cents.  How do I get a decimal point?  I've searched the web and don't see this addressed.

    I double checked.  No decimal point anywhere!  I tried typing in a number with a period….nothing.
    Along the top row it has ASCII, Unicode, Show Binary buttons and 8, 10, 16.  I tried them all.
    I have AND , OR, NOR, XOR, <<,>>, X<<Y, X>>Y, bite flip, word flip in the first two columns. Letters and numbers in the next three columns, and AC, C, RoL, RoR, 2's, and 1's buttons along with math operation symbols in the last 2 columns.
    I can't believe I can't just add up numbers with decimals when doing simple math!
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Problems with the Scanner class and the decimal point

    I'm creating a GUI so to get the user input (double value) I use a jText field and the Scanner to read that value:
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            String time = jTextTime.getText();
           double t = new Scanner(time).nextDouble();
            String cy = Double.toString(t);
            jTextCycles.setText(cy);
        }                                  The problem is that the decimal point it's a comma so if I write:
    1.2
    t = (Error InputMismatchException)
    1.236
    t = 1236.0
    1,2
    t = 1.2
    So I try using the parse method to get the double value:
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            String time = jTextTime.getText();
           double t = Double.parseDouble(time);
            String cy = Double.toString(t);
            jTextCycles.setText(cy);
        }                            In this case the method parseDouble() takes the dot as the decimal point so if i write:
    1.2
    t = 1.2
    1.236
    t = 1.236
    1,2
    t = (Error InputMismatchException)
     What can I do to Scanner class to accept the dot as the decimal point?
    I think that the problem is becouse in some countries (I'm from Colombia) the decimal point is a comma and in others is the dot.
    Thanks

    From the Javadocs for Scanner:
    Localized numbers
    An instance of this class is capable of scanning numbers in the standard formats as well as in the formats of the scanner's locale. A scanner's initial locale is the value returned by the Locale.getDefault() method; it may be changed via the useLocale(java.util.Locale) method.
    If you change your locale to one of those that does use a comma for a decimal point, it should work.

  • Can't figure out how to solve the decimal point bug in this calculator code

    Hi guys, I'm new in flash and is currently learning how to build a simple calculator with multipliers (plus,minus,multiple,divide,decimal point and change sign) but I'm stuck on the decimal point and change sign.
    var multiplier_old:Number = 10;
    var multiplier_new:Number = 1;
    // .: Sets the multipliers so that new input numbers become decimals of a lower unit column
    action_point.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, function():void {
              multiplier_old = 1;
              multiplier_new = 0.1;
              point = true;
    // Takes intput from the input_ buttons and adds it to the input after applying the multipliers.
    // If `point` is true then the multiplier_new is divided by 10, also as described.
    function inputNumber(n:Number):void {
              input = input * multiplier_old + n * multiplier_new;
                        if (point) {
                                        multiplier_new *= 0.1;
                       trace(multiplier_new);
              output_txt.text = input.toString();
    Decimal point
    The problem is that when I input 2.7 in the calculator, it will display the values in output_txt correctly. But then when I input 2.78, it will display 2.780000000000000000000000002. This will also happen to other numbers if the input is too big.
    What I want is just 2.78. How do I change the codings to make 2.780000000000000000000000002 become 2.78?
    Change sign
    Any tips on how to start on this one?
    Thanks for your time,
    Zainu

    I think you misunderstand what I mean. The weird decimal doesnt comes out after I press the 'equals' sign. It comes out when im just pressing on the caculator number buttons
    First I click the no.2 button and then the decimal point button.
    So the caculation output display will show
    2.
    after that I press the no.7 button
    2.7
    and then no.8 button. It appears like
    2.7800000000000000002
    This is the code I use when the user press the decimal point button.
    // .: Sets the multipliers so that new input numbers become decimals of a lower unit column
    action_point.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, function():void {
              multiplier_old = 1;
              multiplier_new = 0.1;
              point = true;
    // Takes intput from the input_ buttons and adds it to the input after applying the multipliers in the method described above.
    // If `point` is true then the multiplier_new is divided by 10, also as described.
    function inputNumber(n:Number):void {
              input = input * multiplier_old + n * multiplier_new;
                        if (point) {
                                 trace(multiplier_new.toFixed(3));
                                  multiplier_new *= 0.1;
                                  //trace(multiplier_new);
              output_txt.text = input.toString();
    I think there is some code wrong in this function that makes this weird problem. I tried putting toFixed method but it's still not working.
    Sorry for this long reply but I have to try my bestto explain with my bad english.

  • Loading Implied Decimal Points

    I have some text data that contains numbers with IMPLIED decimal points. I would like the location of the decimal point to be reflected in the loaded data. My numeric text data is fixed width character with the numeric sign as the first character of the field. Using ZONED(12,3) does not pick up the 3 decimal places. Can Oracle do this? Any help is appreciated.

  • Dynamic displaying of decimal points for currency field in ALV

    Hi,
            In ALV output there is a currency field and displaying data of different countries. It should display decimal point according to the country's currency. But at a time it can display data of different countries.

    Hi Dilip,
    I think your question is about currencies with different number of digits after decimal point. If you have the currency field in the ALV row, you have to give it's name as currency reference for the value field in the field catalog.
    After creating the field catalog, call a form and do something like this (change fielnames accordingly).
    <pre>
    *&      Form  alv_fieldcat_enhance
          Individual Enrichment of field catalog
    FORM alv_fieldcat_enhance
      CHANGING pt_alv_fieldcat TYPE slis_t_fieldcat_alv.
      FIELD-SYMBOLS:
        <alv_fieldcat> TYPE slis_fieldcat_alv.
      LOOP AT pt_alv_fieldcat ASSIGNING <alv_fieldcat>.
        IF <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname(5) = 'KBETR' OR
           <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname(5) = 'SKBTR' OR
           <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname(5) = 'DMBTR'.
    Company code currency
          <alv_fieldcat>-cfieldname = 'BWAER'.
    Document Currency for conditions, net value and taxes
        ELSEIF  <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname(5) = 'KWERT' OR
                <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname    = 'NETWR' OR
                <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname    = 'NPAX_MWST_AMNT'.
    Document Currency
          <alv_fieldcat>-cfieldname = 'WAERK'.
        ENDIF." <alv_fieldcat>-fieldname(5) = 'KBETR' or
      ENDLOOP." at pt_alv_fieldcat assigning <fieldcat_alv>.
    ENDFORM.                    " alv_fieldcat_enhance

  • Has anyone used Lookout 4.5 with Motorola MOSCAD?

    If so, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] My question is, Can I use the ModbusMOSCAD driver to talk directly to a RTU in the field via radio without using a FIU or do I have to use and FIU and talk modbus to the FIU and let the FIU gather the info from the field?

    Here's what the Lookout online help says:
    The ModbusMOSCAD object class works with Motorola MOSCAD PLCs and RTUs. It also uses the Modbus Serial (ASCII or RTU) or Modbus Plus communication protocol, but its data members reflect the address of Motorola MOSCAD devices.
    It looks like you should be fine using the modbusMOSCAD object in Lookout

  • How to get values after decimal point

    Hi,
    source value is 12345.678 i wana the target side in 12345  in field and 678 in one field.
    the source value its not fixed  before decimal point value pass to one field and after decimal point value pass to other field
    please help to me how to do this one.

    Hi Swathip,
    You dont need to create 2 UDFs. You just need to create 1 simple UDF which takes one string array as input as usual and it has 2 Resultlist outputs. You need to map this 2 outputs from the UDF to the respective 2 target side fields where the values are to be mapped, one containing the portion before the decimal, and one after the decimal.
    I HAVE TESTED THE UDF AND IT WORKS ABSOLUTELY FINE.
    THE CODE FOR THE UDF IS AS FOLLOWS:
    public void sepDec(String[] num,ResultList wholeNum,ResultList afterDec,Container c)
      String part1=null;  // Stores the part before the decimal point
      String part2=null;  //Stores the part after the decimal point
                            if(num[0]!=null && num[0]!=""){
                   int index = num[0].indexOf(".");
                   part1 = num[0].substring(0,index);
                   part2=num[0].substring(index+1, num[0].length());
                         wholeNum.addValue(part1);
                   afterDec.addValue(part2);
    THIS UDF IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE WHERE AN UDF HAS 2 OUTPUTS, WHICH IS VERY RARELY SEEN BUT VERY MUCH CORRECT
    PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS CODE WAS HELPFUL TO YOU

  • Do NOT display decimal points for 1 currency

    Dear Friends,
    i have a report which shows the revenue of all countries. we have a target currency (variable) in the report.if we give that target currency as EUR, it changes al currencies into EUR. similarly if we give USD, the report will change all currencies to USD with decimal points
    But the requirement here is, for all other countries, the decimal points shud get displayed for the revenue, but only for Korea curreny (WON) the decimal points shud not be dispayed.
    in the table TCURC, for Korea it is maintained as " whole numbers only ".
    is there a way to achieve this??
    Rgds.,
    ASha

    Hi Yogesh,
    Thank you for ur reply.
    in the report, i have 10 keyfigures. 4 are being picked up from the report and they have currency translation variable. The rest 6 are formulas. On these formulae, i restricted the decimal display to "nothing defined". it works fine for all the 6 formulae. for WON it does NOT show decimals and for the rest of the currencies, it shows decimals.
    but how this can be achieved on the 4 direct keyfigures??
    Rgds.,

  • Extending decimal points on timestamp for write to measurement file .vi

    Hello Everyone
    Currently I am collecting a bunch of Fieldpoint Channels in LabVIEW (about 190) which is a lot of instrumentation. Right now we want to be sure the computer can keep up and read all of the channels every second. To test this theory I want to use the WTMF to get a timestamp for every channel (seems to be the easiest way).
    While reading the file I get like 5.68 so two decimal places. I was wondering if there was a way to get a more accurate time reading down to the millisecond. I know this is three places after the decimal point, but I was hoping I could extend this to 5-6 places past the decimal point.
    Usually when saving data I use the write to spreadsheet with one time column and can just format the readings through that, but for some reason I cannot figure this out with the WTMF
    If there is any input to check these time differences besides doing the above, that would also be appreciated.
    Any input would be amazing.
    Thanks so much
    Tanya

    Hi vaib,
    as i said already here, http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=332115#M332115 i think you can´t stop the writing process. If you start them, then you have to wait til the vi is ready. To measure the time you can use the "Tick count" function. See the attached picture.
