Using Mail in an Enterprise Environment

Good day and thank you for reading my post.
So far I have successfully configured my iPad and my MobileMe Mail application as well. Mail works well at my home location or on a secure Wifi network, my problem arises in my work environment.
To date, the business I work for have not implemented iPhones or iPads on the MS Exchange server, so I rely on my MobileMe Mail account. Another problem is that the business also blocks the traditional email ports (25 & 110), so my Mail app cannot work.
So today I tried to connect to my mobileme webmail with the Safari App on my iPad. Except that every time I tried to connect, Safari redirected me to a web page to help me set up my Mail client. When using my MBPro I can always rely on connecting to my mobileme webmail using Safari, but I can't get it to work on my iPad.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks in advance.

You're not going to have much luck accessing your email on your iPad unless the business either opens up those mail ports or creates a public WiFi network that has those ports open. The latter is what my company and many other companies have.
I'm surprised you don't have a work computer where you can access MobileMe through a web browser. That's what I do often. Otherwise I use my iPhone for accessing my mail through the 3G mobile network. Perhaps that 3G iPad would have been more useful.

  • ICal falls short for enterprise use in an Exchange server environment

(Cross posting from the "Using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" discussion).
I work at a very large software company on a team of people who all use Macs. We were thrilled to install Snow Leopard and begin using the new Exchange server features in Mail, Address Book and iCal. Sadly, though, some very rough edges on the iCal experience are making many people go back to running Entourage, or even Outlook in Parallels (ugh).
Specifically, iCal does not allow you to control how and when notifications are sent when you edit an existing event. As a meeting organizer, if you make a change, such as adding a new attendee to a meeting that includes 40 other attendees already, all 40 of those existing attendees get a notification, forcing them to re-evaluate the meeting in their inboxes.
There is no way to save a draft of a meeting invitation without sending it to the attendees. Often the chore of assembling the correct mix of attendees for a meeting takes significant time. If you are unable to complete the agenda or other planning aspects of the event in a single sitting, you must send the meeting as is, which is not a real option if your respect your colleagues time, because they will be receiving multiple updates to your meeting as you complete it.
Declining a meeting automatically notifies the meeting organizer without giving the invitee a choice. This also creates a lot of unnecessary "noise" in peoples inboxes. Sometimes it is desirable, but not always- the ability to control notification is a very sensitive issue in the context of meeting etiquette.
You cannot Reply, Reply All, or Forward a meeting calendar event from within iCal.
There is no support for rich text in the meeting calendar event's "Notes" field - the field in iCal that is used to represent the meeting invitation email's body text. This strips out meaning and complicates the workflow for attending a meeting.
Getting people to participate in collaborative work in large distributed organizations is a challenge as it is. We cannot afford to use tools that work against the goal. Apple, please hurry up and provide the rest of the features required to really USE an Exchange calendar client in an enterprise environment.

"He also wants to get his calendar appointments and address book (contacts), but he doesn't want to use Entourage"
You need to use GroupCal by Snerdware but we have found it not to be a really good product in our office. The address book has the ability to sync to exchange server many have indicated it doesn't work (Address Book/Preferences/General Tab/Sync with Exchange)
You could try Thunderbird mail product not used that but I doubt any of the Tasks, To-Dos and Calendar come over...now Entourage used to be horrible with this sync but now with 11.3.6 (or whatever it is now) our users see calendar events, to-dos and the LDAP directory
Though I am a Mac fan, still in a windows world you cannot be too choosy they should just use entourage for an outlook like product.
NOTE do NOT go to Exchange 2007 tons of IMAP problems our Mac users are unable to get mail (and yet our Windows Admin could care less)
    good luck

  • How to deploy ejb in an Enterprise Environment using the jbuilder plugin

    Hello:
I use Oracle9iAS Plug-in Release 2 (9.0.2) for Borland JBuilder 7 to deploy my ejb. But now, i would like to deploy my ejb to oc4j in an Enterprise Environment (not as standalone).
Does anybody know how can i do it? I noted that the plugin use admin.jar to deploy ejb, and I suppose it need to use dcmctl.
    Thank you
    Sergio

    Sergio,
The current release of Borland JBuilder only allows you to deploy to standalone OC4J. If you want to deploy to Oracle9iAS (Enterprise OC4J), please try Oracle9i JDeveloper 9.0.3:

JDeveloper 9.0.3 uses DCM to deploy to Oracle9iAS

  • Installing and managing firefox in an enterprise environment using a third party desktop managment system (Novell ZEN)

We want to deploy Firefox in our enterprise environment and need to figure out a way to have the install run silently, no user interaction. We use Novell's ZEN to centrally manage our desktops and how we've done this with other installs is to create a response file, but I guess Firefox will not use response files. So, how would we accomplish this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Novell's ZEN and response files
Fixed certs for Firefox 36 using Novell, not sure how they did this but was fixed for the next version. [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1042889 1042889]

  • How can we update or manage the Adobe Product for example Adobe Reader and Flash Player in a enterprise environment.  Enterprise lifecicle management

We want to maintenance the adobe products in the enterprise environment. Specially Update for he reader and players.
    Thanks

You will need to apply for both Reader and Flash Player Distribution agreements if you intend on enterprise deployments of these products.

If you are using SCCM and SCUP then use the available catalogs for both products.

  • How can I turn off IPv6 temporary addresses in a enterprise environment

So in a default configuration Vista and Windows 7 clients will use IPv6 temporary address (per RFC 3041), but I would like to be able to disable this with a GPO.
I know I can do this by using a startup script tied to a GPO using the netsh interface ipv6 set privacy state=disabled store=persistent but I really do not want to run a logon script especially when as you can see in the command it is a persistent
    setting.
Any ideas on using a registry based GPO for this?

    Hi,
OK, I understand what you want. But after I use the Process Monitor to capture the behavior, I found that a lot of registry keys would be changed. So you can not set it via registry unless the IPv6 is disabled.
    Thanks for understanding.

Thank you again for the answer.
As a follow up question... How does one suggest/request a change in default behavior in a MS product?
While the RFC 3041 addresses might be nice to have for the average consumer they are not ideal in a enterprise environment. I have found that the temporary addresses will register in DNS, but this doesn't completely solve the issue of tracking and accountability,
you would still need a application to query, correlate and store that information.
So it would be nice if the business versions of Windows Vista/7/2K8 and the next client OS would not have this behavior by default.

  • How to use JMS in a J2EE environment

    Hello all,
I would like to find out how to use JMS in a J2EE environment. I use Borland Enterprise Server. Do I need to buy a message software to use JMS? How to use JMS with Message Driven bean?
    Thanks a lot.
    Best regards
    Susan

If you don't want to buy you could try OpenJMS, a free JMS product (http://openjms.sourceforge.net/)
As for learning how to use JMS w/ MDBs, I would suggest grabbing a book on JMS. I found the OReilly book on JMS to be pretty helpful for me.

Can anyone tell me how they are handling software distribution for the iPad in an enterprise environment?

The new Business Volume Purchase Program is pretty interesting...it can be used to centrally purchase and distribute paid ( not free) items from the AppStore.  We are getting setup to use it.  You can keep an eye on licenses etc.  You can also use a single centralized form of payment.

  • Licensing of apps for multiple iPads in an enterprise environment

I have 21 iPads in an enterprise environment, syncing to one iPad.  Am I violating licensing terms.? These are 21 iPads used by 21 board members on each Friday.  Do I need to purchase this app 21 times?  If so how?

Yes, you may be. The applicable terms of sale are these:
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download and sync an App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on one or more iOS Devices you own or control or (b) multiple individuals, on a single shared iOS Device you own or control. For example, a single employee may use the Product on both the employee's iPhone and iPad, or multiple students may serially use the Product on a single iPad located at a resource center or library.
If these iPads are under your own control and you just loan them out for the board meetings, then that might fall under clause (a), though I'm no lawyer and I don't speak for Apple.
If these iPads are kept by the board members for their use, then your company needs to purchase the app twenty-one times, and the only way at present to do that is through twenty-one different iTunes Store accounts. So each board member should probably buy through his or her own iTunes Store account, and get reimbursed by the company if appropriate. I know this is awkward; perhaps Apple will come up with a better mechanism in the future.
    Regards.

  • How to configure C.C. in a proxy/firewall/enterprise environment?

Looking for some answers: It seems that Adobe Application Manager does not currently work with proxies. Is this correct?
It also seems that the Creative Cloud packager also does not work behind a proxy nor does any automatic updates. What are some options for those in an enterprise environment? From what I've read and have been told via tech support, not much at all.
It seems that if we install Creative Cloud on our machines, we have to download and manually install the updates? That's not very "cloud" like.

I am not sure if this can help but we opened these endpoints and now we have acces to everything:

  • SQL Licensing for Enterprise environment

    Hi Guys,
currently we are planing our possible ways to migrate to Lync2013. Due to our Microsoft-EA we already own Lync Enterprise CALs and 3 Lync Server.
Now we have some reallly important questions on the Backend SQL issue:
after all we got confilicting statements from our MS-Licensing Partner an some Consultants.
    1. ) it looks like, that Microsoft does not support an "activ/activ"-SQL Cluster even if LYNC gets an own instance.
this is an unbelievable statemen in consideration of the face a customer already spent a lot of bucks for the SQL-Core-LICs.
2.) if we'll use a dedicated SQL Standard Edition we also need SQL-CALs in addition to the Lync-CALs for all users using LYNC. the LYNC Enterprise-CAL does not contain the right to access the SQL-host. otherwise we need SQL-corelicenses which are ridiculous
    expensive.
Is there someone who solved this issue for an supported environment.
    regards
    Heiko

    Hi,
    First let's clarify some points
1- There is no requirements for SQL CAL licensing For Lync, disregarding the SQL version that you are using ( standard/Enterprise), why ? because :
Lync Users doesn't directly access the SQL backend
and also these licences are already covered by the Lync Server License that you already purchased.
2- The only way to have an Active/Active SOL Cluster, is by configuring Always On availability Features and indeed Lync server 2013 doesn't support these features.
3- When it comes to SQL licensing options the only the SQL Standard edition has Sever/CAL or Per core Licensing option. Where the SQL Enterprise Edition can only be licensed with the Per-core option.
4- Lync Server 2013 support SQL Mirroring or SQL failover cluster as database high availability options. I both cases the following is applicable:
Only active SQL instances requires licenses
dedicated SQL instances can be hosted on Servers which are part of always on availability groups or Failover Cluster

  • PAM on LDAP on an enterprise environment

    Hi,
my customer would like to implement PAM authentication using DS6. The DS is already in place and they want to be able to grant some users access to some servers.
While it is quite easy to find examples on how to configure one server to authenticate to DS it seems impossible to find a good guide explaining how to do that in an enterprise environment. In other words a guide explaining the non trivial configuration parameters. Questions I haven't been able to find the answer to are for example:
how to limit the users having access to a specific server?
how to modify the existing user profiles in an existing DS?
    and many others.
Is anybody aware of such a book (either free or not)
    Thanks in advance
    Sergio

i'm not sure if it's the 'proper' way, but couldn't you achieve this sort of functionality through netgroups?

  • Use Custom Jar in Enterprise OBPM

    Hi,
We are using a JXL.jar(by importing the jar as an external resource) to create excel sheet. It is working correctly in the studio, but when we deploy it into the enterprise environment we get the below error:
Caused by: The task could not be successfully executed.
    Reason: 'java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jxl/Workbook'.
    Caused by: jxl/Workbook
Can anybody let me know if there is something that needs to be done on the enterprise end to make this work?
    Thanks.

    Dan, Bitu,
I'm working with the original poster. The "'java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jxl/Workbook'" error is observed (only) on our install of OBPM 10.3.1 Enterprise on WebLogic.
I do understand we can "force" the .jar to be loaded from WebLogic (thank you to Bitu's post on this thread, and also confirmed her java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in OBPM sever ). However, that is not the ideal situation and we would like to troubleshoot at the OBPM level (why isn't the .jar loaded?)
Can you share with us what should normally happened when a .jar is deployed to the engine please? Should we expect an entry in the Directory (FUEGO_CATALOGJAR)? -- Because I currently don't see any JXL entry on this table.
I also observed that the versions 2.6.12 and 2.6.11 of the JXL api (that can be found here http://sourceforge.net/projects/jexcelapi/files/) cannot be introspected in Studio (throwing an error; I can share more details if needed), so we are using an older version. Can that be related perhaps?

  • Have entrourage and want to use Mail. Can't get it to work.

I had a macbook and purchased the Microsoft office for Mac which included Entrourage.
I have now purchased a new macbook Pro and want to begin to use Mail rather than Entrourage.
I have Entrourage on my new computer but i can't get it to transfer my information to the the Mail program
I am on Charter.net at my office and sbcglobal.net at home.
How can i get this to work.  I can receive on Mail, but i can't send.

check your outgoing port settings and make sure it's using a specific port and not the default port, also you might want to check to see if it is using SSL, TLS or any other encryption.  Verify the setting from your old machine setup.
