Using Metadata to generate view as conventional folder structure

Can Metadata be used to generate a view as the conventional folder drill-down?
I have a list with metadata for different projects, releases, content type etc and I would like to view them in folder structure with different hierarchies, i.e. using projects--> releases--> content-type as well as release --> projects --> content-type.
I have asked the same question at : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22693036/using-metadata-to-view-as-conventional-folder-structure

Hi,
If your metadata is based on a hierarchical term set you could use ‘Metadata Navigation’.
You may have to change your information architecture a bit to accommodate this approach. More info on ‘Metadata Navigation’ here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint-server-help/configure-metadata-navigation-for-a-list-or-library-HA101820113.aspx
Hope this helps
Cheers

  • How to get the folder structure using Sevlets

    Hi....
I have to retrieve the directory structure on the server and display it
to the user. Once the user selects a folder from the tree, the files
have to load on a different pane. Of course the folder structure could
change on the server if any folder or file is added. In short, i have
to get something like the windows file explorer. Also I need to get the path to a particular folder in the server. Is it possible to do
this with using servlets. If we can do this using
servlets, how can i retrieve the folder structure and send it to the
    user interface?
Can somebody help me to do this please.....
    Thanks!

I need to get the path to a particular folder in the
server. Is it possible to do
this with using servlets. You can use:
    String thePath = getServletContext().getRealPath("/WEB-INF/someDir/somefile");
If we can do this using
servlets, how can i retrieve the folder structure and
    send it to the
user interface? You could try using a File object and its method listFiles() or some of its other methods.

  • Watch folders and meta from folder structure?

    Hi,
New to XMP, but I'm looking to impliment a DAM across a marketing department split into two teams - remote but on the same network.
We have c70gb of av material from the last 15 years.
    1. Is it possible to "watch" a network folders for new / edited files?
    2. Can metadata be collected from the existing folder structure? I.e, for the last 15 years descriptive folder names have been used in an attempt to organise things - ergo these folder names include project names etc. Is it possible to pull these folder names out, and put them into keywords in the meta?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.I have 2 shared folders set up - 1 for each user and have given permission for each user to have full access to their own personal folder. There are our family photos on the public folders and each user has placed their own files/photos/videos etc in their personal folder.User 1 is using WDMycloud on an android phone - can see their own private folder and the public folder.  All the photos are in the shared folder.  All the private documents are in User 1 folder. When using the app, User 1 can go to 'Public' and see the public photos, but:When selecting 'View by date' some of the thumbnails that are on the folder are from user 1s secure folder. When user 1 opens the folder, they can see public photos in the thumbnails.  However, some thumbnails are displaying images from the private folder and when they click on these, they open up an image in from the public folder. When selecting ' view by album, only 1 folder appears (in this case the folder created in the private folder for backing up images from camera)When selecting 'View all photos' only a specific group of photos from a folder on the public pictures opens.User 2 is using WDMyphoto (I think) on ios. User 2 is able to see thumbnails and images from user 1s private folder. I have tried several things to stop this happening - setting up each private folder as accessible by only the named user.Checking user permissions to ensure they have no access to each other's folders in both 'user' and 'shares' settings. I have restarted the WDMycloud and devices connecting to it, but am still having these problems.  I will try to rebuild the database to see if that is any use. Any further advice would be much appreciated! I am becoming increasingly frustrated with this and am thinking about just removing the private information from the drive, but having secure access to personal information was one of the reasons I purchased this in the forst place!

  • Webhelp Output Folder Structure

This is more of a question than an issue.
When I generate webhelp from a FrameMaker-integrated RoboHelp
project, RoboHelp always adds a folder to the output to match the
name of the FrameMaker book in the Project Manager/Project Files
    folder.
    Example:
My FM book is called apiusersguide.book. After bringing the
content into RoboHelp, the parent folder (to match the book name)
is apiusersguide. When I generate the webhelp, I want the output to
be in a folder structure that looks like this:
    apiguide\
    apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
    chapter1\topics.htm
    chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I want is apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
However, RH ALWAYS adds the book name to the top level, even
if I omit it in the Webhelp Output Folder field when I generate. So
the folder structure ends up looking like this:
apiusersguide\ (name of the FM book and top level RH folder)
    apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
    apiguide\
    chapter1\topics.htm
    chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I GET is
    apiusersguide\apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
I've experimented with a variety of different FM book names
and output folder names and RH ALWAYS inserts that top level folder
automatically. Is there any way to NOT generate the extra top level
    folder in the output?

I am sorry Michael, I am unable to understand the exact
problem. Have you created the TOC using the Auto-create TOC option?
That could be the only reason for it to display the same names of
book in the output. Have you tried to name the books and the topics
as you have specified in the TOC? If not, do that first and I am
sure you can get the desired results.
Again, as I mentioned, if I have not understood you
correctly, please let me know the real issue and I'll try
    resolvingit for you.
    Regards,
    Pooja

  • PSE4 - Folder structure - Collections structure

    Hi!
I've always used some other program to organize my photo's, but now I want to use PSE4, because of all it's functions. The only thing is... Is there a way of just importing all my pics by somehow converting the folder structure they are in now to the collection-structure with the same hierarchy? And a -for me- even more important question: is there a way of exporting the collection structure to folders on my pc (WITH the files in them!)??? 'Coz as I see it if I want to make a back-up of all my pictures organized in PSE, it just creates just ONE folder on my drive with all of my ten-thousands of pictures in it...
I hope this question is clear and I even hope more there'll be a usefull answer soon!
    Thanks beforehand for all answers!
    Greetz, Thomas

    Thomas,
    Basic comments
I doubt that a direct transfer of your folder structure will be an efficient and effective use of the Organizer. From several folder structures that I have seen, most people have more separate folders in their sturucture than is necessary once they create Tags. Structure is still possible because Tags can have a structure with Category and Sub-Category; however the structure can often be less complicated.
My advice is that you read about
    b Tags.
It sounds like you are planning to use Collections immediately - not a good idea because there is better searching capability using Tags to identify photos.
One function that sometimes aids the transition to Tags is the "Instant Tag" feature. Use the View > Arrangement > Folder Location. The Instant Tag will make a tag from the Folder Name. Specifically this is the name of the last level folder in the folder tree (the folder that actually contains the photo files). One consideration is that you do need to be cautious in its use if you have multiple lowest level folders named "Birthday Party" or whatever.
    >as I see it if I want to make a back-up of all my pictures organized in PSE, it just creates just ONE folder on my drive with all of my ten-thousands of pictures in it...
If you use the Elements Backup command, the files in the Backup folder are renamed and do not have a folder structure. When you use the Elements Restore command, the files are renamed back and the folder structure is recreated.
However, if you use the Burn to CD/DVD Copy function, you are correct there is no folder structure on the disc. Of course, you can still use whatever burning software you have on your PC to burn whatever Windows folders you wish to CD or DVD discs.

  • Why, since CS6 does DW now use ABSOLUTE image paths when dragging images into Design View from a folder in Finder?!

While I am grateful the previous issue I had with not being able to drag files into design view at all (in CC and CC2014) was resolved.
Guys (Adobe), seriously, if you're going to change the functioning of something that used to work just fine, at least supply a way for a user to revert to the old way... I absolutely loathe that I need a legacy version of DW to continue with my current workflow. Please put it back to the way it was, or at least allow a user to chose between the two behaviours.
If there is a way to do this, without using the Site Manager (which still doesn't work from Finder even with relative to document selected), I would appreciate any guidance.
As for using the Site Manager (before some smart guy suggests that I just use that) I do not wish to navigate to and create up to 20 "sites" a week and wait for DW to cache them all, when I am already in the folder with the image assets in Finder.
Also before someone pipes up and says: "You shouldn't be diving sites in design view anyway", I don't... I develop many, many newsletters every week and the folder structure is such that navigation to the actual image folder using the Site Manager would be painful at best.
I don't really like having to and replace all instances of "file:///Users/me/Work/company/Mailers/Year/wk14/mailer/dev/img/prod5.jpg". It is horrendously wasteful, time-wise.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies

Sorry Murray, DW used to have an idea, my point is that since CS6 its developed a case of Amnesia.
The "elements" are in the "root" folder as follows:
    newslettername.htm
    img
         imagename.jpg
So the relative path would be <img src"img/imagename.jpg" />
    However since the change: <img src"file:///Users/me/work/Company/year/week/campaign/img/imagename.jpg" />
Which is completely useless and needs to be corrected before I upload the html anywhere.
As for using the site directory, I did answer that in my initial post. I use a laptop, I really don't want a site manager taking half my screen just so I can see the folder structure and navigate with that, especially since I am already at the files I need in Finder.
Again, this is something that used to work just fine in previous iterations of DW, so I don't believe Adobe is incapable of fixing it nor am I being unreasonable asking for a choice for those that may find the local absolute paths useful in some way. All I want is to be able to chose not to use absolute paths when dragging from Finder.

  • Quicklook does not work with WMV files and quick look no longer maintains resized views when viewing from a folder using the up/down arrows

  • Using Automator to Add Metadata from Folder Structure

I have a huge set of .wav files organized in a folder structure like this:
    Artist->Album->Song
I am trying to write an Automator workflow to import each song into iTunes whilst adding Artist and Album metadata.  I can get the workflow to work for a single artist with a single nested album, but multiple nested albums result in Artist and Album tags which are concatenated versions of all the artist and album names.  This is my workflow:
I'm using variables to store the artist name and album name.  Somehow, when this gets to "Set Info of iTunes Songs", the artist and album info gets concatenated.  Any ideas much appreciated.  Thank you.

oh, i can do all those things with the batch mode in iPhoto but I would like to integrate these steps in a longer Automator workflow - i.e. not having to open iPhoto and do it manually...

  • Can you RENAME footage to be imported (using metadata)...without transcoding?

Is there a way, or a program in the suite that can rename all the files using the file's metadata (namely the date and time it was shot) that we plan to import without transcoding them? They are AVCHD files (.MTS files)... For years we've transcoded to prores proxy and then eventually to ProRes422 when final edit is locked for export, but since Premiere handles native avchd files (.mts) pretty well now, I'd rather not have to transcode and save some hard drive space. Transcoding doesn't appear to offer any benefits over editing natively anymore, right (for basic editing with basic color correction)?
So is there a program (prelude? bridge?) that I can use to access all the mts files and rename them by the date and time it was shot so that I can take all 5 or 6 SDHC cards and combine them and have them all listed in chronological order? Right now I end up with either a folder for each card, or if I try to combine all the clips, I end up with a bunch of files with the same name (eg. 00000.MTS, 00001.MTS, etc...) since that's how they were named coming out of the camera on their respective card.
    Please advise. Thanks!

    jamesp2 wrote:
If you've got a moment, try this, assuming you're on Windows:  shoot a few clips, copy the entire file structure to disk, navigate to the "stream" folder, open it, highlight all the files, right click on the first one, select "rename", rename it (say, with the date& time shot), and execute.  All the highlighted files will be renamed to that time and date, but incrementally numbered ,(1), (2), (3), etc. in sequence.  So each file now has the same root name (date and time), but is numbered sequentially after that.  No duplicate names.
Now, using the Media Browser, import those clips.  Then go back to the stream folder and see if PPro created .xmp files for each imported clip.  If so, it would appear you have metadata.  If not, no metadata, because PPro couldn't find any after renaming.
I'm on a mac. But I still tried a few things after reading your post...
First, I copied two existing SDHC card's folders to a new location so I could mess with them. I went in and renamed all the clips 2 different ways:
    1) For one folder I just renamed them straight from the "stream" folder (although on a mac I don't think you can rename them all at once using Finder (which is mac's "search app"). So I did one at a time and then went back to Media Browser and they did not appear anymore. I click on the PRIVATE folder and nothing appears (before renaming, all the files would show except the "duplicate spanned clips" as discussed above). So that didn't work.
    2) Using Finder, I navigated to the stream folder on my 2nd copy of the original SDHC card and then I right-clicked and selected "open with" and selected Adobe Bridge. Bridge opened up that whole folder with all the clips (including the duplicate spanned clips). I renamed them there using date/time, etc. I went back to Media Browser and they also did not show up now. So...instead of using Media Browser, I just imported the whole folder into the project panel. The clips now did populate into the project panel with the new names.
The new clips generated .cfa and .pek files but did NOT generate .xmp files. Only if I did NOT rename the files did it generate .xmp files.
Not sure what all this means. I could just transcode to rename, or use clipwrap/prelude workaround like in post #11, or do my 2nd method above using Bridge and just deal with no XMP files (not sure how that will affect anything?)...or hope for another alternative.

  • Hiding a column used in the custom view!

Hello! I would like to find out if there is any way to do the following: I have a view based on a table (Configuration Manager - Views).  I specified to display 4 columns to show up in the View, so that we can modify the columns without going into the Database.  In the "Default Display Expression" entry on the Info tab of the view, I've specified how these columns should be displayed on the UI. My problem:  I don't want to display the fourth column on the UI at all, but I want this column to still be accessible by administrators via the view!  Is it possible to specify somehow NOT to display this column, but still use it in the view? Thanks for the suggestions! Anya

Hello! I've actually created a separate view just to hide this fourth column, and we will be using this for the administration (relates to your point b).  However, someone had asked not to use so many views!  Do you know of any problems if several views are being used for the same table? In our case some tables have up to 3 views already. We use this view for the Metadata field, but the Metadata field is an option list (or controlled vocabulary in our terms).  To enable more user-friendly selection, we are using DHTMLX Grid (dhtmlx.com) to display values in the View.  The grid is displaying all columns from the view, by default!  (Perhaps I need to check if I can somehow customize the Grid - however, I was hoping to do this from the View itself) Thanks!

  • How do I use Active Sync to view SharePoint Lists (Contacts and Calendars) on a Mobile Phone?

We are attempting to use SharePoint 2010 in combination with Exchange 2010 to implement shared calendars and contact lists throughout our organization.  We are able to connect the lists to Outlook 2010, but have been unsuccessful in viewing
the calendars and contact lists from our mobile phones.  How do we use Active Sync to view SharePoint Lists (Contacts and Calendars) on a Mobile Phone?
In trying to answer this question, we have come across a few different possibilities, all of them falling just short of a long term solution for us.  After doing research, we found that Active Sync will only show the default folders of the account.  To
solve this, we downloaded an Add-In for Outlook (CodeTwo FolderSync) to synchronize folders and synchronized our SharePoint list with a new Contact list in the default folder.  The issue we came across with this method is that the Add-In we are using
is not capable of automatic synchronization.  There is a button and it must be clicked after every update is made, which is not ideal for our solution.  We then went to the company (CodeTwo) and found server side software (Exchange Sync) that they
offer which will automatically synchronize the folders.  After installing that on the Exchange Server, we now are running into the issue of not being able to locate the SharePoint lists on the Exchange Server.
Does anyone happen to know how we can get to the SharePoint lists from the Exchange Server?  Has anyone else been able to use shared contacts lists and calendars from SharePoint on their mobile phones using Active Sync?  If so, are we in the right
direction with what we have found so far?
    Thanks,
    Brad

You cannot use ActiveSync for that, but there are SharePoint clients for the iPhone. Windows Mobile 7 natively supports SharePoint with SharePoint Workspace Mobile, part of Microsoft Office Mobile. Android and BlackBerry might also have some apps.

  • Metadata in List view not showing up?

In Folio Producer I have fields filled in with metadata (Article Title, Description)
But when I preview on iPad using the TOC list view, these are not there. See attachment.
    Suggestions or insights?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

Actually, no. Descriptions are only visible when scrolling through articles using the 'flatplan' view using the top right button.
The table of contents will show Kickers and Titles.

    <tr><td>CEO Workbook 1</td></tr>
    <tr><td>CEO Workbook 2</td></tr>
    </table>
How can I achieve this grouping using XSL ? Has anybody tried customizing the XSL file to achieve grouping of workbooks by name?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Friends..
    This is not the reply.
    I have also some question..
Some related topic I found on this.
That's why I am posting the same question here also..
    Dear friends..
I need help to customize our discoverer viewer.
We are creating work sheets in arial font size 8.
But, when it's viewing through discoverer viewer it's coming big size.
If we saw the source code by right click, it's taking some style sheets where
the font size is mentioned as 8. not 8px.
How I can modify the work sheets in viewer.
Exactly which tag I should modify for this.
And the other thing is the heading section is coming something as
    jung.
    Like this...

  • Assign specific metadata for folder structures in the Content Server

Assign specific metadata for folder structures in the Content Server
    Hi to all,
I working with Oracle Content Server 10g and Desktop Integration Suite and I will like to know how can I restrict or enable some specific metadatas from the default metadata, for differents content folder. This is different from the function: Information Field Inherit Configuration.
    tnks!

I am a bit unclear about your question:
    - do you ask about metadata assigned to folders, or
    - do you ask about metadata assigned to items in folders?
Starting from #2, if you forget about folders, there is standard functionality that you can use to restrict, enable, ... metadata for an item. Read this chapter: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e10978/c04_metadata.htm#sthref288 to get full details.
I am not sure whether you can use anything of this functionality (profiles, option lists, etc.) when you check in a new folder. I doubt it, though. The logic of folders is slightly different - whilst e.g. profiles correspond to "content item", you don't find such a correspondence in folder's hierarchy (why a folder could not contain various content types, for instance?)
Last question is, from where you want to use this functionality - even for items. In 10g, Desktop Integration Suite's functionality was rather limited (often it was supposed that a user will just 'throw' an item to a folder, and metadata will be inherited from folders). You might have to upgrade your DIS to 11g; it should work even with 10g Content Server, but make sure you verify it before mass upgrade. In 11g, DIS should offer profiles, etc. with full capabilities.
