Using Numbers as a timeline program?

I am writing stories as a hobby and have so many characters and events now with my 3th book that I start to forget what happened when and who was born at what date. I looked for a timeline program on the web but could not find anything that is special made for writers. I was wondering if Numbers could be used for something like this. Does someone has a good template or could tell me how to make this kind of project?

Numbers might be helpful.
List the characters in columns across the top and time in rows down the left (on the theory that there are more time segments than characters). It's easier to scroll down than across, IMHO.

Numbers does not have the ability to download transactons and add new transactions to your spreadsheet. You can manually download your transactions from your bank (into an OFX file, I believe) then add them to your spreadsheet. You might be able to automate it further with scripting.
Categories it can do. You can design reports.
Numbers is a blank slate, unlike Quicken and other applications that are designed for the specific purpose you have in mind. If you want Numbers to do it, you have to design a Numbers document that does it. The amount of work required depends on what you want and need.

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

If you plan to share or work with people who regulary use MS Excel you should not try to use this in Numbers. You will have constant problems with how each program translates the formatting.
If you want to use Numbers, use it exclusively. If it is for your job use the tool your company uses.

Actually, I strongly suspect if classes were available on any 'feature" that
Apple sales would soar! Too often - I hear about the learning curve. Which I
must admit after many years of Microsoft can be a reall challange. Certainlly enough not to

Using Numbers as an Address Book?

I do not yet have iWork 08, but I was wondering if I can use Numbers as a second address book, with email, contacts and web pages etc. I would like to be able to copy and paste addresses straight into mail as you would from address book.
I am really just trying to separate my address book into work contacts versus personal, and with work contacts, I need to index them into several categories. I know I can do this with smart groups in address book, just looking to create 2 separate books as mentioned earlier.

As Pages is trying to "speak" to the AddressBook program, I assumes that it would not be a good track to duplicate the app.
My guess would be that you may solve the problem with an AppleScript allowing you to swap two sets of AddressBook data files.
The idea would be to:
enter the folder:
<bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Application Support:AddressBook:
create two subfolders
one named "dataSet1" and one named "dataset2"
move the five files existing in the folder into "dataset1".
After that, launch AddressBook to build a new set of datas.
When this new set will be OK, move it into "dataset2".
This being done,
when you want to work with the first set, duplicate the contents of dataset1 into the standard folder
when you want to work with the 2nd set, duplicate the contents of dataset2 into the standard folder
Of course, before replacing a "set1" by a "set2" it would be safe to copy the set1 into dataset1 to protect the "recent changes".
It's a bit of trickery but it is a viable approach.
It's the way I would work if I was using Bento. Doing that, I would be able to use different documents to store different kinds of infos.

I wish to make a list of all screen numbers used in my module pool program Is there any FM / table which maps module pool program name with all the screens used in it?
For example, if my module pool is SAPMZPROG and it has screens 9001, 9002 and 9003, then I want to have a report as follows:

I don't want to use NUMBERS with QUICKEN BANKING SOFTWARE

I use quicken for mac banking software. Suddenly, Numbers is default for opening downloaded qfx files from webconnect via bank, even though I reset the default to "open with Quicken" each time this happens. I cannot find a way to change it Quicken support has no clue!!! My Wachovia Bank Tech support has no clue. Mac me proud Mac users! Any ideas?
By the way, when the file opens as a Numbers doc, I get an error as well in the numbers doc that opens, stating that all times have been changed to GMT!!!

How are you setting Quicken as the default? Many users find that after installing Numbers, OS X sets Numbers as the default program for .qif or .qfx files. All you have to do to fix the problem is to "tell" OS X you want Quicken to open these files. Highlight a .qif document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Quicken. If Quicken is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Quicken application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Quicken. Repeat with .qfx files.

How do i use numbers for image gallery and arrows?

Hello there,
I'm hoping someone can advise me on the best possible way.
I would like to use numbers to help the user navigate through the image gallery i'm creating and arrows on either side of an image (one image viewed at any one time). I have attached an image of what i'm trying to acheive. I feel like the arrows will help aid the user to navigate and the numbers will inform them on the number of images to view.
I have so far created the site with a template (logo and nav bar) and child pages for: home/about/work/contact.

while you execute the program , a selection screen appears in which the inputs should be give as
RFC destination - The target server name
FTP command- PUT
local file - your file name
local directory - path of your local file
remote file - your target file name
remote directory - where it has to be stored

Cannot move [MOV filename]: It is in use by another person or program

Hello. I have recently installed version 7.41 of Quicktime for Windows (had the same problem with 7.4). What appears to be happening is that when I boot my computer, without opening any programs, if I go to a location where I have a MOV (Quicktime movie file) file, and try to cut and paste it to another folder it gives me the message:
Cannot move [MOV filename]: It is in use by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
I have found by using some memory/file monitoring tools that EXPLORER.EXE is opening a handle to the file (accessing it for some reason) and then holding on to that handle thus not allowing me to move the file from one directory to another. By forcing the handles closed, it then allows me to move it, but then immediately maintains it open again, and cannot move it again.
This only happens with QuickTime MOV files. I have renamed the file to another format, just for kicks basically, and it works fine using another extension. I have also reassociated the MOV files with another app, but still has the same issues.
I have not run or any applications before this point and especially not anything related to QuickTime. Does anyone have any insight into what might be happening?

I am having the exact problem when I try to rename or move the MOV file. I use Unlocker to determine which process is locking the MOV file and like you have said: it is the Explorer process.
I hope there will be a patch for this problem soon and if you know of any solution, please inform me.

TS1702 Right in the middle of using numBers, entering numbers on a spreadsheet. I went to copy then paste to another document and everything froze. I can not open any of my documents. Any ideas?

I have 2 problems. First I was using numbers on my IPad and it froze up on me. I cannot open any of my documents. What do I do to fix this.
My pages wouldn't update and now it is dark and I cannot use it or my Facebook app which is doing the same thing.

TS1702 I have been using "Numbers" on my ipad 2 for about 2 years. Today it kicked me out a few times and now won't let me in at all! I have tried restarting the application but don't want to uninstall it as 2 years of data on there! Can anyone help?

I have simply been backing up to iTunes using the sync function.
My most recent backup using that method was a bit too old. To get a more recent backup of my data, I decided to do another sync backup before uninstalling Numbers from my system. (I did have the sense to copy the previous iTunes backup to another file folder on my PC before making that last sync - just in case I need it.)
Is there some way to extract Numbers spreadsheets from the iTunes sync backup? I haven't found any way to access these spreadsheet except by using Numbers. Since Numbers isn't working, I seem to be stuck. I did find some software that extracts a variety of data from iTunes backups but it doesn't extract Numbers data.
