Using Numbers  to create spreadsheet.

Using Numbers 08 to create spredsheet.
Need it to divide Cost by usage to get unit cost. It then gets calculation wrong.
ie. divides 211.43 by 1467 and gives answer of 0.6666666 recuring
Answer should be 0.144124
Help Please.

Shift,
You indicate you problem is solved?  If so I am am confused as to how?  For the other participants can you share what you did to solve the problem?
I am guess, though, that the problem is NOT solved and that you are attempting to use the number two to refer to Electric cost and three to refer to Usage.
In Numbers, as in any spread sheet the table is divided into cells with columns and rows.  You refer to the columns with letter and the rows with numbers.
To get the outcome you want you enter the Electric Cost in cell B2 (in the way I have this set up), Usage in cell B3.  The cost per unit is computed in cell B4 using the formula "=B2/B3"
I hope this helps.

  • I am using numbers to create a grade book for my classroom

I am using numbers to create a grade book for my classroom but would like to know how to link information in one table to a cell in another.

To reference to a cell in the same file, but in a other sheet user the following format:
    sheet::table::cell
sheet: the name of the sheet
table: the name of teh table in the sheet
cell: the cell reference in the table (e.g. B5)
See also page 90 in the manual.
Or simple start to write the formula and click simple an the cell in the other sheet.
To reference a cell in a other file, there is in the moment no way, to do it (that I know).

  • Batch Capture Lists Using Numbers

Has anyone been able to use Numbers to create a batch capture list for Final Cut Pro? I was able to do this all the time with Excel, just export as a tab-delimited file, then import that file into FCP. It's an easy way to log footage to perform a batch capture later on. Numbers won't export as a tab-delimited file. And I've tried exporting as a csv, but FCP doesn't recognize that file type. I love the simplicity and interface of the iWork suite much better than Office, I don't want to reinstall Excel just to use it for that one purpose.

    No can do!
Just hit this problem myself, today. Numbers does not have a tab-delimited output format option. I suggest we make an enhance request to Apple, against Numbers, for this obvious omission.
So, anyway, it is easy to post-process a CSV file into a tab-delimited file. It is just an extra step
Aside from using the "Find And Replace" functionality within a text editor, this can be readily accomplished on a terminal command line, for those comfy in that environment:
    cat LOGFILE.csv | sed 's/,/<tab>/g' > LOGFILE.txt
Where I put "<tab" above, type a tab character instead.
    Have fun,

I created a spreadsheet using Microsoft office 2010 Excel.  When I open the sheet using Numbers, the formatting changes.  How do I fix this?

If you plan to share or work with people who regulary use MS Excel you should not try to use this in Numbers.  You will have constant problems with how each program translates the formatting.
If you want to use Numbers, use it exclusively.  If it is for your job use the tool your company uses.

  • Using numbers 2.3 how do i split windows to view more than 1 spreadsheet at a time?

using numbers 2.3 how do i split windows to view more than 1 spreadsheet at a time?

    Hi seth,
    Numbers vocabulary:
    Spreadsheets (aka: Document)
    contain one or more Sheets
on each of which may be placed one or more Tables
each of which contains one or more cells
each of which may contain either data or a formula.
Spreadsheets open in separate windows. Depending on the contents of each spreadsheet, and the scale at which you want to see it (and the size of your display), you can view more than one spreadsheet in the same manner as you can view more than one of any kind of document—open two documents in separate windows. Resize the windows to allow both to be viewed at the same time. Place and scale the individual documents to permit viewing the desired part of each
Sheets within the same document cannot be displayed simultaneously. You can make and open a copy of the document, then open and view both copies as described above, but this introduces new opportunities to edit the wrong copy. You could Copy a Table from one part of the document, open Preview and go File > New from Clipboard to create a PDF copy of that table (readable, but not editable), and view the spreadsheet and pdf documents as described above.
Tables can be rearranged, or have rows or columns (or both) hidden to permit simultaneous viewing of selected parts of both.
A Table can have Table > Freeze Header Rows and Table > Freeze Header Columns set to keep these rows/columns visible as the rest of the table is scrolled. Or can have a range of rows (or columns) hidden to allow viewing of rows (columns) adjacent to that range visible on the same screen.
Numbers does not support freezing of rows or columns other than Header rows and Header Columns.

    Barry

  • With one click, can one upload an entire folder containing at least 7GB of Excel spreadsheet to ICloud and then be able to view them on an Ipad using Numbers. Also, would this cause one to have to pay for over 5GB of space?

Want to travel only with my Ipad.  Would like to easily upload, with one click, large 7GB folders of both Excel spreadsheets and Word documents to ICloud and then be able to view, change and create individual spreadsheets and documents using Numbers and Pages on my Ipad through the internet? Also, this would exceed the 5GB offered free, but someone said if I am only syncing and not backing up there would be no charge.  Please explain.

    You can't
Pages and Numbers can save to iCloud, Word and Excel can not.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings

    All the best,
    Jeremy

The only option I'm being given is to create an lCloud account.

The last thing you want is a second iCloud account. Try logging out and back in in System Preferences. If that doesn't work, I'd get AppleCare on the line.

  • How to create a list from checkboxes using Numbers on iPad?

I am creating a guest list using Numbers foriPad. First sheet is a list of invited people with checkboxes (Yes/No/still to reply) in next column. In the next sheet i want create a list of everyone that has replied yes.
I have tried using the if statement, but I dont want any blank cells.
-IF(A2;TRUE;A1) gives name in A1 if box is checked, but gives 0 or something else if i specify. But i want to automatically start on next row to avoid blank or 0-
    Example:
    David   V
    Lisa.     V
    Derek
    Brad.   V
    Paul.
    John
The separate list in another sheet should then be:
    David
    Lisa
    Brad
    Any help will be appreciated.

Can you use the the reorganize panel to sort the list?
Idon't have Numbers on the iOS so I am not sure.  You are posting in the forum for Numbers on Mac OS X.
you can also add a new column (let's say C)
    where
    C1=if(A1, A1, "")
this will include the name from column A  when the checkbox in B is checked.  You can then copy column C and paste values using the menu item (Edit > Paste Values, or equivalent in iOS... not sure what it is)

  • Using Pages and Numbers to create a DOC report

Later this month, I will be volunteering for a local sprint racing event at a community festival. Races take place over three days of a long weekend. Friday features one mid-distance race and Saturday and Sunday feature sprint races repeated over the two-day event. (Contestants run in the race for the first day, have their race-time recorded, and then again on the second day, again the time is recorded. The race results are the total of both days' times for each contestant.) Some contestants may drop out of a race or be disqualified.
I posted a thread over in the Numbers '09 forum to ask if Numbers is equipped to handle race-time tabulation like this. Someone else tried doing it last year with OpenOffice. We may go that route again, but I want to see if we can use Numbers '09 and Pages '09 in case the other volunteer isn't available.
Here's a link to the Numbers thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2290574
Central to this project will be the ability to enter data for time (hours, minutes, seconds-plus-decimal-points) and add times together.
There are several different classes of races, each one would presumably be its own spreadsheet. Entries for each contestant would be sorted by starting order, then first and last name, the contestant's hometown and state, then the contestant's assigned racing number, then the times. Contestants are all signed up well in advance of the race, so I now have all of their registration data in hand.
The desired output would naturally be the re-arrange the contestants of each race in order of results. The results would also include for final added time.
Local newspapers and an international racing news web-site are given the results. These entities prefer the results in ".doc" format. I produced last year's results in tables in Microsoft Word v.X:Mac. Below is a link to a PDF file with the 2009 results.
    http://sites.google.com/site/waltsimplesite/LobdellRaceResults2-2009.pdf?attredi rects=0
How practical would it be to produce a DOC file in pages that would still be readable by Microsoft Word users? (These news entities do not necessarily use the latest software; some may be long-in-tooth.)

I would not enter this path.
If you need .doc files, I think that it would be more efficient to use the FREE openOffice or the FREE neoOffice which are able to deliver plain .doc files with a better compatibility.

Good Morning.  I'm having a problem using both my Photoshop elements and premiere programs.  I've installed the programs, redeemed my code and entered the serial numbers, and created the adobe log-in.  I am able to open up the organizer without problems, but when I try to open up the photo editor (either by trying to open up the program from the main menu, or right-clicking on a photo in the organizer to edit in elements), the program asks me to sign in to adobe (which I can do and it doesn't give an an "incorrect password" or log-in ID error) then accept the terms and conditions.  When I click to accept the terms and conditions, nothing happens and the editor fails to open.  Everytime I click on the program, I get this same "loop" of signing in and accepting T&C's, but the program fails to open.  Any advice?

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.

  • How can I create random teams of 2 using numbers on an iPad?

I am trying to create random teams of two for a card tournament. Can this be done using numbers on my iPad?

Here's a solution using Numbers '09. If the functions used are supported in Numbers for iOS, it should work there, too. If not, try reposting in the iWork For iOS community.
Column A of Players contains the names of the players entered in the tournament, in whatever order is convenient.
Column B, which may be hidden, contains the same formula in all cells (except the header cell):
    =RAND()
The formula generates a random number between zero and one.
Column A of Teams contains team identifiers. These are text values. they play no part in determining the team selections.
Columns B and C contain similar formulas:
    B2: =LOOKUP(SMALL(Players :: $B,2*(ROW()-1)-1),Players :: $B,Players :: $A)
    C2: =LOOKUP(SMALL(Players :: $B,2*(ROW()-1)   ),Players :: $B,Players :: $A)
These formulas select the players in order of the random numbers in column B of Players. The players corresponding to the smallest, third smallest, fifth smallest...numbers are listed in column B, those corresponding to the second smallest, fourth smallest, sixth smallest... are listed in column C.
The checkbox in Players::A1 is used as a trigger to spur recalculation of the tables and reordering of the teams. Clicking the checkbox toggles the value of that cell between TRUE and FALSE. Any change in a value in a Numbers table causes the table to be recalculated, which reselects the teams.

Using Numbers, I set up a spreadsheet grid but it disappears as soon as I click anywhere. How can I keep the grid?
I have:    iMac with OS 10.10.3;   Numbers 08 ver 1.0.3

    Hi Bernard,
This may help. Numbers tables can have Grid Lines (Format Panel > Table > Grid Lines)...
... and Cell Borders (to change all cells, select the whole table by clicking on the "bullseye" top left) then Format Panel > Cell > Border > select a Border Pattern and Style
1 pt Borders (my preferred default):
They don't disappear when I click away. Also, the borders show up well when I post a screen shot to this forum .
