Using OID in place of attribute name in an update operation

Hi,
I use Iplanet DS 5.0 on Solaris 8.0
An application that I use needed a custom defined schema.
This application tries to update entries using the OID of the attribute instead of the attribute name.
ie. It uses
Add: 2.5.4.58;binary
instead of the name of the attribute -- attributeCertificateAttribute that has been defined in the directory.
This operation fails with an objectClass violation.
The developer pointed out that this was allowed by the RFC and that it worked with other directories.
Later I tried replacing attribute names by their OIDs in corect LDIF files and these operations failed too.
I have included an ethereal trace of the request and of the response.
Question:
Does this work on Iplanet DS? How can I get it to work ?
Thanks,
sriad

Thank you ReubenC, the business has decided to not proceed with the LDAP configuration of web.config at this time and would rather stay with using the TNS entry for the time being; this is because we just mirgated their instance to an 11g environment and they want to ensure they have no issues with the migration before they take on web.config changes too.
I will however try your recommendation when they choose to proceed and let you know how it turns out.
Thank you,
Charlie

  • HT201365 My Contacts receive texts from me as my email address in place of my name since the update? How do I change it back?

    My contacts aren't recognizing my texts since the iOS7 update. Messages are addressed from my email address in place of my name??
    How do I remedy?

    Is this on their phone? Even when using iMessage (blue text bubbles instead of green), the name associated with text depend on my address book.
    Have you possibly adopted an email address for sending iMessages that isn't in their contact card for you?

  • Using Variable in place of property name in set_item_property procedure.

    Hello,
    I need to change the item properties dynamically by using variables for both properties names and their values.But during compilation its showing me error "Too many declrations".Kindly suggest me any best way.

    You already have the answer to that one in the posting above.
    Your table would presumable include rows HEIGHT, WIDTH etc.. as text columns
    So you'd cross reference as above.
    Alternatively you could find out what the numerical values are for HEIGHT (1509) and WIDTH (1508) are and store them in your master table alongside the description that your user will see. Then you can simply do the set_item_property.
    This relies heavily on Oracle not changing the values for these constants. Even if they did you would just have to change your table. Then your solution is generic and future proof.
    Built in for all properties: Not that I know of. But you could sort of use your table as above to help. Simply loop through the constants, do a get_item_property, and show that to the user.
    You'll have to be careful about maybe classifying the things in your table to ensure you don't try to get an inappropriate property for the type of item.
    With a little effort this will all definitely be possible.
    I saw a thread the other day where someone had created a form called "props.fmb" which showed the item properties in a tree style. See if you can find that. This was fairly hard coded compared to what you want, but it would be pretty good as a basis.

  • Class as an attribute name in JSP tag file

    I just ran into an issue where I was writing a custom tag to generate a specific set of HTML elements, and wanted to be able to use CSS the same way I had before refactoring it into a tag. So, I included 'class' as an attribute in the custom tag file and deployed.
    On Glassfish v3, this generated a bunch of JasperExceptions in the Javac compilation, complaining about <identifier> expected and reaching the end of file while parsing. I tracked it down, of course, to the use of 'class' as an attribute name, which was reduced to a servlet class defining:
    public String getClass() {
       return this.class;
    public void setClass(String class) {
       this.class = class;
    }I'm curious -- which part of the process messed up here? Is "class" a valid identifier under the Java EE spec, and the translation should have used something like setClass_(String class_)? Or is it invalid, and Netbeans didn't know to mark it as an error before it tried to deploy? (And, of course, that I missed that in the spec, making it my fault.) I couldn't find anything specifically saying that reserved words couldn't be used as JSTL identifiers, so my gut is that the parser messed up. Also, I found a bug report about it for an alternate web container, but no mention of it in the bug trackers for Glassfish, Tomcat or Jasper.
    Where's the blame?

    This is the only documentation I turned up. Maybe this says it's invalid:
    Java EE SpecThe unique name of the attribute being declared. A translation error results if more than one attribute directive appears in the same translation unit with the same name.A translation error results if the value of a name attribute of an attribute directive is equal to the value of the dynamic-attributes attribute of a tag directive or the value of a name-given attribute of a variable directive.

    <item id="1" />

    Hi Alex,
    You can use setName to change the attribute name:
    Here for example change all your id attributes with code:
    var xmlTest:XML=<r><item id="1"/></r>;
    for each (var node:XML in xmlTest.item.descendants("@id"))
    node.setName("code");
    trace(xmlTest);

  • What is the benefit in using OID for names resolution?

    I have been wondering about this for awhile. I have been working on getting this to work in Iplanet along with Pat Lehane ([email protected]), and it works now.
    What are the benefits in using OID for names resolution when you can just use the static tnsnames.ora. Database and database names are not created dynamically and they don't change that often. Would creates a new database every day and has to worry about changing the static tnsnames.ora file. In my environment, we run Oracle applications from a server, so there is only one tnsnames.ora file, on the file server.
    It would appear that using OID would cause extra traffic (LDAP lookups) on your network.
    I would like some opinions from both Oracle and Oracle users. Thanks

    hi,
    A benefit of using OID for names resolution is that it allows you to centralize net8 naming (i.e., tnsnames) information in the same place (OID) where other types of administrative information (about users, enterprise groups, enterprise roles, etc) gets stored. If you are more comfortable using tnsnames.ora files for net8 naming, that is perfectly fine!
    An important reason that Oracle had for providing Net8 naming functionality in OID is that the legacy 'Oracle Names' functionality of Oracle 7 will eventually be desupported. This is discussed in metalink Note #135696.1 on http://metalink.oracle.com .
    Hope this helps.

    I've run the Delete Object method and your script against similar data sets and yours appears to take a fair bit longer. I'd have to re-run in identical circumstances, a few times, to really say for sure, but my initial impression is that it will take hours
    longer.
    I guess the point is somewhat moot anyway, as for me the bit that generally takes longest is the actual query, rather than the deletions.

  • Struts: How to set 'disabled' attribute name using a property in ActionForm

    I have the following struts tag:

    However this does not work. Is there a way to use this technique in a struts way (without using any scriplets) for attribute names instead of having duplicate struts tags where the only difference is, in this case, the disabled value?

  • How to change the attribute name for a relation

    When the Data Modeler engineers a logical model into a relational model it create table columns for the relations. The names of the generated columns are listed in the attributes list in the properties dialog of the relation. The actual name of the attribute gets calculated by the attribute name of the entity which is part of the relation. This is okay, if there is only one relation between two entities. But when there are two relations between two entities the second attribute gets a stupid number suffix. This makes it impossible to give the attribute a useful semantic meaning.
    When I engineer the model into a relational model I can change the column name in the relational model. Changing the column name in the relational model is not perfect but it would be okay for me, if it would not be overwritten during the next engineering run.
    So I have two questions:
    How can I change the attribute name in the attributes section of the properties dialog of a relation? See here for screen shot:
    http://public.ceving.de/2012050300/relationattribute.png
    And if it is not possible:
    How can I preserve any changes on column names in the relational model during a re-engineering run?
    Edited by: 931739 on 03.05.2012 08:07

    Hi,
    I've logged an Enhancement request on this.
    I don't believe it's possible to change it from the Entity or Relationship dialog, as it's not updatable in these dialogs.
    What you can do is change it in the Relational Model, and then reverse engineer the change back to the Logical Model.

  • Using scriplets in jsp-tag attribute

    I have a strange problem with a custom taglibrary that I'm trying to write.
    When I use the tag in a jsp like underneath the first outputs the right value (Welcome Hans), but the output of the second time shows: Welcome <%= test %>
    This is a part of the JSP:
    <% String test = "Hans"; %>
    <arto:hello name="Hans" />
    <arto:hello name="<%= test %>" />
    I realy don't know how to let the tag display the value of the string in my jsp.
    Can anyone give me some advice?

    <%

    %>
    <arto:hello name="<%= test %>" />
    <arto:hello name="Hans" />

    In the tld for the name attribute, use

  • How to find database attribute names that correspond to page labels

    I've been tasked with creating one or more views to be used in creating reports. The users know data items by the labels on pages, not the database attribute names. So my dilemma is how to correlate the page labels to the database attributes.
    For example, there's a course details web page. It includes items labeled "Replacement Course", "Inherited Competency Update Setting" and "Attachments", among others.
    Focusing on "Inherited Competency Update Setting"... there's no database attribute called that. I've found COMPETENCY_UPDATE_LEVEL, but I don't know if that is it. And is an "inherited" one different than a non-inherited.
    I've googled about, and discovered that "Inherited Competency Update Setting" can be set by using a workflow named OTA_COMPETENCE_UPDATE_JSP_PRC and setting an attribute named HR_APPROVAL_REQ_FLAG. Further research has lead me to determine that HR_APPROVAL_REQ_FLAG is used only within the workflow system. I've found in SYS.ALL_SOURCE a package OTA_COMPETENCE_SS with a function that gets that attribute's value. It includes a query against WF_ACTIVITY_ATTR_VALUES which retrieves values of YES_DYNAMIC, APPROVAL, NO, YES or NOTIFYONLY. I've not found any code that uses the function.
    Using ALL_TAB_COLUMNS, I'd found COMPETENCY_UPDATE_LEVEL in OTA_OFFERINGS, which contains "APPROVAL" or null. So that may be what I seek, but I can't confirm it.
    I also have been unable to find the translation from "APPROVAL" to "Notification, Automatic Update after Approval" (assuming I'm correct and this is the field)
    I've found a Training Administration Technical Reference Manual for Release 11i, which contains information about the database, but I've found no corresponding document for Learning Management for 12.1 (Only installation and user guides).
    And this is many days' research to find one attribute. Which I'm not certain I've found.
    So, in this case in particular, or any case in general, how does one find the database name for an attribute, given the page label's text??
    Thank you
    Cornell

    Whoa, easier than I'd thought...
    When the page first shows up, there's the About This Page link, at the bottom, clicking it you get to the About Page.
    I noted two sections, Page Definition and Business Component References Details.
    I expanded Business Component References Details and found View Objects. There's a list of views used. I was dismayed that the views don't appear to be in the database. Of course, they're camelCased Java names of Java objects, not database names (although sometimes some of the camelCased tokens might correspond to parts of view names). They are, however, clickable and when clicked the definition shows up, and I was thinking that it would take a long while to find what I was seeking.
    But... Hit the Expand All link in Page Definition, do a find on page for the desired label, and there it is... a row with the label, view object name and attribute! Pay dirt!
    Then go to the Business Component References Details, find the View Object, click it, and there's the view :-) Find the attribute, then the table... easy peasy!
    Thank y'all again
