Using Oracle 9i Client 9.0.1.1.1

I have installed Oracle 9i Client version onto my computer (Windows ME) but whenever I try and run it using the SCOTT\TIGER username\password I get a TNS:protocol adapter error.
What does this mean and what username\password do i have to use to use the software.

  • Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Oracle 7 Client with Oracle 9 Server

    Hello,
I was wondering what are the advanatges of using Oracle 7 client with Oracle 9 Server versus using Oracle 9 Client with Oracle 9 server.

Some years ago I used 7.3 Client with 9i DB, and I don't remember of particular problems, but I'm speaking of Sql*Plus only. Are there specific problems ?
Of course the best thing is to install one 9i Client (did you already do it ?) : if there are same problems, then that's not compatibility issue.
And what are advantages of using 9 Client with 9 server other than 7 is no longer supported. You're sure you won't have compatibility problems.

    Hi,
That error occurs when you dont have the right version of Oracle client software installed to use the version of ODP the app loaded.
What version of ODP was the app compiled with, what version of ODP does the computer you moved the app to have, what version of Oracle client does that computer have, and did you deploy oracle.dataacess along with your app (you shouldnt, unless you're deploying all the files it needs too -- ie, the instant client install).
Does the computer you moved the app to already have Oracle client? It needs to.
    This might help:
11g ODP.NET 32bit/64bit minimum requirements to install to a client machine
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • CR 2008 and ODBC connection using Oracle Instant Client driver?

    Two questions.
I'm creating CR 2008 report using an ODBC connection. The ODBC driver is the Oracle Instant Client (version 10.2, I think.)
When I define the connection, I see only a few tables. I do not see the Tables, Views, Qualifiers tree that I see with a normal Oracle Server connection.
Does anybody know why this happens? Is there a CR ODBC driver that works better?
Second question:  I have a .NET application that is pointing the report to another Oracle DB. In my db, table names are not unique -- each user has the same set of tables. I find that when the .net applciation sets the datasource, I get connected to the first table with a given name; I do not get the table scoped by the logon user.
In the .net application, how do I scope the table name to a particular user.
    Any info helps. Thanks.
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Below are the replies to your questions:
Answer 1: Please try the below steps:
    - Make sure that in File->Options->Database Tab in the Data Explorer section the corresponding checkboxes are checked for tables, views, system tables, synonyms and stored procedures and the Table name LIKE and Owner LIKE boxes are blank.
    - Please try with OLEDB connection and check the results.
    - You can also refer to this SAP note no# 1215994, the link to which is given below:

Answer 2: If you are using RAS SDK only then you would be able to change table name. Please let us know if you are using RAS.
If you are using RAS with Java please post your query in the Java forum else if you are using Visual Studio/.NET then please post your question in .NET Forum.
    Please update with the results.
    Thanks!

  • Cant connect to Oracle database using oracle db client

    Hi All,

    Thanks Nicolas,
Actually, there was a problem with my oracle client installation. I uninstalled it and then installed back again but still, even after following your instructions I get some error.
    Here what I did:
    Created tnsnames.ora file as below:
    HR84DEV =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.56.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = HR84DEV)
Placed it under appropriate directory and then checked the connection with database using the command shown below:
    C:\Users\Administrator>tnsping HR84DEV
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on 10-FEB-2
    012 08:42:03
Copyright (c) 1997, 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Used parameter files:
    C:\MyApps\Administrator\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = 192.168.56.1)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = HR84DEV)))
    OK (20 msec)
Then tried to connect to database as below:
    C:\Users\Administrator>SET ORACLE_SID=HR84DEV
    C:\Users\Administrator>SQLPLUS /NOLOG
    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Fri Feb 10 08:25:56 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    SQL> CONNECT SYSADM/SYSADM@HR84DEV
    ERROR:
ORA-28547: connection to server failed, probable Oracle Net admin error
    But still getting error.
I Googled this error and tried to figure out what the problem is and came across the possible cause which is because I haven't specify that the service should run as a user who is in domain admin group.
well, I am not really sure about this and dont know what user name and password I should enter in OracleserviceHR84DEV-properties-log on-this account.
do I really need to set this?

  • TNS configuration needs ocijdbc11.dll : I want to use Oracle 10g client

    I configured apex-config.xml to use a TNSNAME. I deployed the APEX listener in a standalone OC4J 10.1.3.5.
It asks for ocijdbc11.dll to be in -Djava.library.path.
This means an Oracle 11g client is required. Why isn't it possible to use an Oracle 10g client installation? Is there a way to use an Oracle 10g installation in combination with the OC4J APEX listener?
I do'n't want to use the "thin" methode because this cannot be used in an Oracle RAC environment as far as I know (at least not with failover).

    Hello,
as far as I know, you can use the thin driver to connect to RAC. If I don't remember this wrong, you should be able to configure the URL like this:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host1) (PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host2) (PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service)))Just my personal opinion: If you want to use a "fat" client, it shouldn't be too hard to install a 11g client. Of course, this will require additional space on your app server, but I like the thought that Oracle tries to keep the APEX Listener a lightweight application that works pretty good for most scenarios. If you try to make it compatible with every option and every version, this wouldn't stay that way.

  • Using Oracle 9i Client and 10g Server on the same box

    Hi,
All our applications are compiled using oracle 9i and the proc compiler for oracle 9i.
However we run the applications against a 10g database which has oracle9i and 10g co-hosted on the same both. We achieve this by using the oracle 9 libclntsh.so shared library which uses shared memory (I assume) rather than having a listener and tnsnames.ora entry.
My question is, is it support by oracle.
    Thanks,
    Iain

You can achieve this by install them into different ORACLE_HOME

  • ORA-12154 using Oracle.DataAccess.Client

I am experiencing an ORA-12154 exception when accessing a remote Oracle database using ADO.NET called from c# code running on a Windows 2003 system. The code functions correctly on our internal (remote) database using the Oracle XE 10.2 Client. At the customer site with Oracle 10.1 Client the same code generates the 12154 error.
At the customer site, I can connect without errors with the customer's connection information (Hostname, port, SID) using Navicat 8 Lite for Oracle and SQL-Plus. I can also connect with no problems using ODBC (except I can't use ODBC because it causes other problems when accessed from ASP.NET).
The connection string is correctly formulated i.e. "Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myServerName)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=myServiceName)));User Id=myUserName;Password=myPassword"
When I run TNSPING on the client's system I get the following result (server and SID name altered for confidentiality reasons):
Adapter TNSNAMES zur Auflösung des Alias benutzt
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myServerName)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = dedicated) (SERVICE_NAME = myServiceName)))
    OK (10 ms)
I can't determine anything about the listener since I don't have access to teh datbase server.
To summarize, my .net code fails when I use the Oracle Data Access Client, but works fine with ODBC, and Navicat, SQL Plus also work fine.
Can anyone suggest the cause and possible solution for this problem? - thanks in advance for any help :)

And since it never resolved that on the client side, there is no need to look to anything (like the listener) on the host side. You never got out of your driveway, so there is no need to see if the entrance to your destination is open.

  • Setting the role using Oracle.DataAccess.Client.

I have a user role and password attaching to oracle 10 that I need to set. Could not find where to set it.

    Hi,
You'd set it the same way you do for a sqlplus session, for example. Use the SET ROLE command, which you can execute via an OracleCommand object and ExecuteNonQuery().
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Memory leak using Oracle thin driver on wls6.1...

Hi, I've been attempting to find a memory leak in an application that
runs on WLS 6.1 SP2, on Solaris 8 and accessing an Oracle 9i db. We
are using the Type 4 (Thin) driver and JProbe reports that hundreds of
oracle.jdbc.* objects are left on the heap after my test case
completes. Specifically oracle.jdbc.ttc7.TTCItem is the most common
loiterer on the heap. I have verified that after each database access
the resources are release correctly (i.e. ResultSet, Connection,
    PreparedStatement, etc.)
Has anyone encountered similar problems? or does anyone know how to
    fix this?
    Thanks,
    Tim Watson

    Hi Tim!
We have seen problem using oracle 817 client that has been resolved using
901 client for type2(oci) driver, But i am not aware of thin driver
problem. You should check with oracle if they have find any customer's
    with this problem.
    Thanks,
    Mitesh
