Using PFI0 as a trigger and PFI1 as an input on PCI-5114

Hi,
I have a NI-5114, and I'm currently using PFI0 as the trigger, and reading out the two analog channels.  I'd like to add a second digital input through the other PFI so I can simply test if something is on or off (already a digital signal).  So, when PFI0 triggers, it digitizes the two inputs and reads whether or not PFI1 is on or off (no timing necessary).  Is there a trick to get this done?
Thanks,
Karl

Hello Karl,
Since the PFI lines are generally used as triggers, we cannot read a PFI line unless you are specifically triggering off it. What you could do is as soon as you receive a trigger you can export a trigger of PFI1 which you could connect to one input of an external AND gate and second one is the signal you want to monitor. or can use another DIO DAQ device like USB-6501 to monitor the status of external digital signal.
Good Luck

  • Continuous data acquisition using NiDAQmx with a start and a stop trigger

    I'm sorry if this has been answered many times before, I can't quite seem to find the answer I'm looking for.
    I am using LabWindows CVI version 7 and NiDAQmx with a PCI6023E.
    I wish to acquire data continuously using an external clock as a timebase - I am happy with this.
    I wish the acquisition to start when an external signal (say on PFI7) goes high. I am also happy with this.
    What I also need is for the acquisition to stop when the signal on PFI7 goes low, or possibly when a signal on say PFI8 goes high. I'm not too concerned about which approach to use.
    How do I stop the acquisition with an external signal?
    Thanks in advance,
    Crispie

    I don't have CVI installed, but I've attached screen shots of a LabVIEW program that I believe accomplishes what you are trying to do. Translating it to the C API should be straight forward. I'll try to explain what the program is doing since it's using some of the more advanced features of the driver. Also, the DAQ device you are using doesn't support a true "stop" trigger so I'm using a reference trigger to get as close to the desired functionality as possible.
    First, the program configures a finite acquisition that uses both a start trigger and a reference trigger. The acquisition is using an external sample clock and will acquire 4 samples (2 pre-trigger samples and 2 post-trigger samples). Four may seem like an odd number here, but it allows us to emulate the functionality of a stop trigger as close as possible. Given this configuration, you must acquire at least 2 samples before the "stop" trigger is recognized, and you must acquire 2 more samples after the "stop" trigger is recognized. Hopefully this restriction is acceptable. You can always discard the last two data points after the stop trigger if they're not of interest, but you're stuck always acquiring at least two points between when the start and stop triggers are recognized.
    The program also overrides the default buffer size and read position. By default, the DAQmx driver will pick a buffer size exactly big enough to fit the pre-trigger and post-trigger data (4 samples in this case) and will begin reading data from the start of the pre-trigger data. Explicitly allocating a larger buffer will allow your acquisition to execute without receiving buffer overflow errors, and changing the default read position will allow you to read all of the data between the start and stop triggers as it is acquired and not just the pre-trigger and post-trigger data.
    Finally, the while loop takes care of reading the data. In this case, the loop continues to read data until the task is done and there are no longer samples available for reading from the buffer. The number of samples read per iteration is the lesser of the user specified amount or the number of samples available for reading from the buffer.
    I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Labview code to trigger and scan spectra from HR4000 spectrometer?

    has anyone used labview code to trigger and scan spectra from HR4000 spectrometer? When I use one of the device drivers (Spectral Acquisition.vi), i miss lots of trigger when I run it for more than 100 iterations?
    I was wandering if anyone is working with it or had in the past and if you could share your insight.
    Thanks

    Inconsistent times are one thing, overall slowing down is another, although they may have common source. I guess it is the XY plot in your case. Do you have it AutoScaled? If so, try turning autoscaling of both axes off.
    Secondly, I don't quite understand the reason for the inner loop with number of iterations = constant 1. What happens if you remove the loop? I understand you want to change the number of iterations in future, but let's test the simplest things first. Removal will require indexing the Wavelength array explicitly with an apropriate block. By the way, it is customary that you EITHER define the number of iterations of a FOR loop by connecting the N input OR by indexing of an input array - NEVER both at the same time. Maybe, changing the multiple XY plot into a single XY plot won't be necessary, maybe it will, try for yourself.
    Thirdly, I suggest you try enclosing the XY plot block alone in a case structure (say, in its TRUE window) and set the true condition to occur at some fraction of the total iterations, not every cycle. You do this using the index "i" of the main iteration loop, calculate modulo something (e.g. 10) and test if it is true or false. This way you update the XY plot every 10th iteration only and by choosing different modulo divider you can test, if the plot's display is or isn't the beast slowing things down.
    Finally, I suspect it is not necessary to use a Local Variable of the seconds 2 indicator. How about simply wiring the output of your To-double block to the input of the subtraction block? That should let you remove seconds 2 local variable with no harm done.

  • Counter input using PFI0

    Hi everyone,
    I am trying to make frequency measurement using PFI0 or PFI1 in the cDAQ-9188 and DAQmx
    is it possible to do so ???
    can i have guide for that ?
    thanks

    Hi Tareq-
    You have specified your frequency input pin and its sample clock to be the same signal.  The -200284 error is a timeout, associated with the fact that you do not have multiple periods of your input signal for each sample clock cycle (since they are the same signal).
    Are you actually trying to acquire a so-called buffered frequency measurement (buffering away measurement values on each tick of an external clock)?  My guess is that you just want to read a single frequency value per loop iteration judging by your use of the single sample DAQmx Read instance.  In that case, you can remove the DAQmx Timing VI from your task creation for the frequency measurement task.
    Edit:  I should also mention that if you *do* plan to use an external clock, you should make sure that its rate and your 'samples to read' value of the DAQmx Read VI match in such a way that a read of that many samples can actually occur within the allotted DAQmx Read timeout.  You should probably also use a multi-sample instance of DAQmx Read in that case, too.

  • Problem with trigger and entity in JHeadsart, JBO-25019

    Hi to all,
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.2 and developing an application using ADF Business Components and JheadStart 10.1.2.27
    I have a problem with trigger and entity in JHeadsart
    I have 3 entity and 3 views
    DsitTelephoneView based on DsitTelephone entity based on DSIT_TELEPHONE database table.
    TelUoView based on TelUo entity based on TEL_UO database table.
    NewAnnuaireView based on NewAnnuaire entity based on NEW_ANNUAIRE database view.
    I am using JHS to create :
    A JHS table-form based on DsitTelephoneView
    A JHS table based on TelUoView
    A JHS table based on NewAnnuaireView
    LIB_POSTE is a :
    DSIT_TELEPHONE column
    TEL_UO column
    NEW_ANNUAIRE column
    NEW_ANNUAIRE database view is built from DSIT_TELEPHONE database table.
    Lib_poste is an updatable attribut in TelUo entity, DsitTelephone entity, NewAnnuaire entity.
    Lib_poste is upadated in JHS table based on TelUoView
    I added a trigger on my database shema « IAN » to upadate LIB_POSTE in DSIT_TELEPHONE database table :
    CREATE OR REPLACES TRIGGER “IAN”.TEL_UO_UPDATE_LIB_POSTE
    AFTER INSERT OR UPDATE OFF lib_poste ONE IAN.TEL_UO
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    UPDATE DSIT_TELEPHONE T
    SET t.lib_poste = :new.lib_poste
    WHERE t.id_tel = :new.id_tel;
    END;
    When I change the lib_poste with the application :
    - the lib_poste in DSIT_TELEPHONE database table is correctly updated by trigger.
    - but in JHS table-form based on DsitTelephoneView the lib_poste is not updated. If I do a quicksearch it is updated.
    - in JHS table based on NewAnnuaireView the lib_poste is not updated. if I do a quicksearch, I have an error:
    oracle.jbo.RowAlreadyDeletedException: JBO-25019: The row of entity of the key oracle.jbo. Key [null 25588] is not found in NewAnnuaire.
    25588 is the primary key off row in NEW_ANNUAIRE whose lib_poste was updated by the trigger.
    It is as if it had lost the bond with the row in the entity.
    Could you help me please ?
    Regards
    Laurent

  • Trying to get a Trigger and Alert to work

    So im trying to get a trigger to work with an alert and the Alert seems to be right and the trigger complies which seems right to me, however the instruction that I have in my book does not produce the same output that I get from my Update.
    Here is the deal. I am to log into sql * with a default account as well as login as "SYSTEM"
    the trigger should invoke the Alert and output a message to re-order some more product and the status should = 0 since there is no wait time. However I don't get a "Message" from the Alert and the status = 1 which indicates timeout. So if you can take a look at my code and let me know what I did wrong or how to "Connect" the two that would be great.
    Trigger I created.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER order_replace_trg
    AFtER UPDATE OF stock on bb_product
    FOR EACH ROW
    WHEN (OLD.stock = 24 AND NEW.stock = -2)
    DECLARE
    stock NUMBER(5,1);
    idproduct NUMBER(2);

    lv_status_num NUMBER(1);
    reorder NUMBER(3);
    BEGIN
    IF stock <> 24 AND reorder = 25 THEN
    lv_msg_txt := 'Product 4 Reorder Time!';
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(lv_msg_txt);
    ELSE
    lv_status_num := 0;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(lv_status_num);
    END IF;
    END;
    The Alert:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_ALERT.REGISTER('reorder');
    END;
    DECLARE
    lv_msg_txt VARCHAR2(25);
    lv_status_num NUMBER(1);

    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Alert: ' ||lv_msg_txt);
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Status: ' ||lv_status_num);
    END;
    Here is the block I need to run to test the trigger and alert.
    UPDATE bb_product
    SET stock = stock -2
    WHERE idproduct = 4;
    COMMIT;
    The message I should get is:

    This is what I get.
    SQL> /

    Right. Register says "I'm interested in getting alerted to some particular event", Waitone says "I'm waiting until some event happens". Signal is the key thing that indicates that a particular event happened.
    As for your trigger, a couple of issues
    - I don't know why you're calling DBMS_OUTPUT. I'm guessing that you probably want to send a message along with your alert that the receiver gets and displays, not that you want to print a message to the window from inside the trigger.
    - You're using the local variables stock and reorder in your IF statement but you never initialize them. I'm guessing that you would want to eliminate those local variables and just use :new.stock and :new.reorder (assuming that REORDER is a column in the table).
    - Your WHEN clause doesn't seem to make sense. It's telling the trigger to fire only if you update stock from 24 to -2, which doesn't make sense. I'm not sure you would even need a WHEN clause here.

  • Update Trigger and COLUMNS_UPDATED()

    Let me rephrase my question:
    I want to know if there is a faster way (probably using bit operators) to see if COLUMNS_UPDATED() in an update trigger on a table with more than 8 columns contains any column other than 1 specific column I will refer
    to as 'columnToIgnore'. I don't care about which columns are included or if the value has actually changed, only that there are other columns present.
    Original question:
    I have inherited a Sql Server database + schema and corresponding application and I have been tasked with speeding up the batch update of users in the database. After running some profiling I discovered that the reason it was slow is because of an update
    trigger on the users table. I did some “cleaning up” of the trigger and now it runs faster but I still think it could be more efficient. The objective of the trigger is to write to an Audit table any time an update takes place and any column is updated (it
    does not actually matter if the value has changed or not) with the exception of 1 specific column. Now I have the following code in the trigger which I had refactored from something much uglier.
    DECLARE @ColumnsUpdated VARBINARY(100)
    SET @ColumnsUpdated = COLUMNS_UPDATED()
    DECLARE @onlyIgnoreColumnChanged int
    SET @onlyIgnoreColumnChanged = 1
    SET @onlyIgnoreColumnChanged = 1
    IF (EXISTS(SELECT 1
    FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS Field
    WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'users'
    AND sys.fn_IsBitSetInBitmask(@ColumnsUpdated, COLUMNPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID('dbo.users'), COLUMN_NAME, 'ColumnID')) <> 0
    AND column_name !='columnToIgnore')) BEGIN
    SET @onlyIgnoreColumnChanged = 0
    END
    Ideally I would change the code to disable the trigger and do the insert myself BUT the code is old Classic ASP ( ie. VBScript with ODBC database connections) so I am not going to change any of the calling code because that would cost too much time and probably
    create more problems than I am solving.
    My proposed fix which I am unsure of how to code in SQL:
    It seems to me that there should be a way to get the proper id or position for the column and see if the column was used in the COLUMNS_UPDATED().
    If it was not used then we can set @onlynieuwchanged to 0 for the remaining code (not shown)
    If it was used then remove the bit from the COLUMNS_UPDATED() and see if it is empty
    If its empty then then we can set @onlynieuwchanged to 1 for the remaining code (not shown)
    If it’s not empty then then we can set @onlynieuwchanged to 0 for the remaining code (not shown)
    My problem is I am not sure how to go about coding this logic in SQL. I would think it would be possible with BIT operators? It would seem this could be more efficient than what I have now as it would get rid of the select statement which could slow down
    a large batch update.
    Notes
    My table has 30+ some columns so more than 8 which is relevant when working with COLUMNS_UPDATED() from what I have read. It also means that testing each column with UPDATE() would probably be more inefficient than what I have now.
    The update is called from the front end code (VBScript) which currently times out although not as much as it used to with my latest change. I cannot alter the code to run async mode and show progress, it would be easier for me to update the trigger.
    Reason for audit - we only record the user id in an audit table. This is then used to force a sync to another system outside of our source control that is used for various other tasks (mailings, views, etc). Again, I do not want to change how this system
    works, I only want to speed up the existing trigger with minimal effort.
    Sql Server version 2012, database Schema is set to Sql server 2005 compatibility mode.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
    -Igor

    Thank you again everyone for your input. As I mentioned there is much out of my control. This is an active application worked on by many developers and has been pieced together over the past 10+ years. It is NOT well written, the database schema has MUCH
    to be desired, and the code is the classic definition of 'spaghetti' code and multiple platforms are used to access the data, and there are millions of lines of code. There is nothing I can do about all of this which is why I am ignoring much of the advice.
    Sure, if this was a new application or something that was well written and possible to do some modifications then I would BUT it's not. If I was given 1 year of dedicated time to fix everything... well, I would probably throw it all away and start from scratch.
    Here is what I finally came up with. It is probably not  much faster, if at all, but when I started this I thought there would be a simple solution that I did not see. I will probably leave my code the way it was but will include the following for reference.
    DECLARE @bit int, @field int, @char int, @comparisonField VARBINARY(100)
    -- the following segment recreates the value contained in COLUMNS_UPDATED() if only the field nieuw was altered and stores that value in field @comparisonField
    SET @field = (SELECT COLUMNPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID('dbo.users'), 'columnToIgnore', 'ColumnID')) -- geth the field id for column nieuw
    select @bit = (@field - 1 )% 8 + 1
    select @bit = power(2,@bit - 1)
    select @char = ((@field - 1) / 8) + 1
    -- select @field AS [Field number], @char AS [Char], @bit AS [Bit] -- debug code to check the bits that are tested.
    -- Recreate the binary value of just having the field present in the columns_updated
    SELECT @comparisonField = CONVERT(VARBINARY(100),'0x' + RIGHT('000000000000000000' + RIGHT(CONVERT(VARCHAR(30), CONVERT(varbinary(1), @bit), 1), 2), @char*2), 1)
    -- if the generated value in @comparisonField is the same as COLUMNS_UPDATED() then only nieuw was updated
    IF @comparisonField <> COLUMNS_UPDATED() BEGIN
    -- code to add to the tracking table
    END

  • Differences between trigger and Integrity Constraints

    waht are the differences between trigger and Integrity Constraints

    waht are the differences between trigger and Integrity ConstraintsConstraints are to be preferred:
    "Declarative Ease
    Define integrity constraints using SQL statements. When you define or alter a table, no additional programming is required. The SQL statements are easy to write and eliminate programming errors. Oracle controls their functionality. For these reasons, declarative integrity constraints are preferable to application code and database triggers. The declarative approach is also better than using stored procedures, because the stored procedure solution to data integrity controls data access, but integrity constraints do not eliminate the flexibility of ad hoc data access.
    Centralized Rules
    Integrity constraints are defined for tables (not an application) and are stored in the data dictionary. Any data entered by any application must adhere to the same integrity constraints associated with the table. By moving business rules from application code to centralized integrity constraints, the tables of a database are guaranteed to contain valid data, no matter which database application manipulates the information. Stored procedures cannot provide the same advantage of centralized rules stored with a table. Database triggers can provide this benefit, but the complexity of implementation is far greater than the declarative approach used for integrity constraints."

  • Difference between After parameter Form Trigger and before Report Trigger

    hi,
    Can some one tell me difference between After parameter form Trigger and Before parameter trigger.
    Why do we need both these trigger , why can't we use any one of them because after parameter trigger will obviously fire before report trigger and similarly before report trigger will fire after parameter form.
    Thanks
    Ram

    Hi,
    i will make it clear..!
    Actually, we have four type of triggers in reports..!
    Before Parameter -- fires before params are suppied to the calling report..
    After Parameter -- fires after params are suppied to the calling report..
    Before Report -- fires before report is generated..
    After Report. -- fires after report is generated..
    Before Report and After Report triggers are used for formatting the report design..
    like u can specify a report to be displayed based on a condition in the Before
    Report trigger and u can specify some backend updations in the after report trigger
    which fires after report is generated..

  • Trigger and Gate Only Returns One Channel

    Hello all,
    I am trying to write a VI that will run in the background and start writing some data to a file when it detects a signal. For detecting the signal, the VI uses the "Trigger and Gate" express VI to see when the input voltage goes above a treshhold. Then I plan to write whatever data comes out of the "Triggered Signal" output.
    There are 8 channels, with the 6th one being the channel that is being checked for a signal. I have configured the "Trigger and Gate" express VI to trigger when that channel reaches 0.01 V and it does trigger when that happens. However the problem is that the "Triggered Signal" output only contains data for the first channel, and I want it to contain all of the channels.
    I don't have access to the device that will be sending the data right now, so I am testing the VI using the "Read From Measurements File" express VI. It reads from a file that contains data that I saved from the device previously. When I set the the "Retrieve segments of specified size" for the express VI, so I can see how it progresses, I get the error I mentioned above. When I set it to "Retrieve segments of original size" (the file contains only 1 segment, so it reads all data), everything works as expected.
    Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?
    I attached the VI with some sample data.

    You do not need to add this field to your list. In the view V_T588MFPROPS (SAP delivered), this field is set as mandatory. In configuration, you must maintain the view V_T588MFPROPC (Customer area) and make sure the field is not set to mandatory. This will override the SAP delivered setting and the error message will be not be displayed.

Can I use PFI channel as an external trigger? I will get a TTL pulse whenever there is a sparking event and I want to start acquisition at this point and collect data for 1 Sec. Can I connect my TTL signal as trigger.. also I need to use only the first high to be treated as trigger and collect data for 1 sec... Please help me out in this.. a bit urgent...
    Thanks
    Anil
