Using Ranking on MS SQL Server 2005

Hello,
We are on BOXI3.1 base version and have a universe on top of MS SQL Server 2005.
My question is regarding use of rank functions. BO guides state that
You can perform a database ranking only if your database supports
it. If this is not the case, the Add a database ranking button is disabled on
the Query Panel toolbar. Databases that support ranking are Oracle, DB2,
Terradata and Redbrick.
So SQL Server is not in the list. However the add database ranking button is enabled on
my report panel. If i add a ranking the query runs for a long time and times-out.
Is there any universe parameter i need to enable to use ranking? Has any-one mangaged to
use ranking functionality with SQL Server 2005.

When we create this Object (using your example) at Universe level is the ranking hardcoded ?
My questions is, say i have Product object (with values A, B, C, D, E), and sales aggregated (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100)
Say the table is as follows
Product;        sales
    A;               10
    A;                70*
    B;                 50
    B;                 20*
    C;                 30
    C;                 60*
    D;                 40
    D;                 90
    E;                 80
    E;                100
Note: * represents Oversees sales outside US
Case 1: Now when we rank whole data to select top 3 we should get (E, D, C in Desc order)
Case 2: Now if I apply prompt on Country of sales as US will I get (E, B, D) or is it still (E, D, C as earlier).
Case 3: Similarly if I apply prompt on Product (no prompt on Country) in the filter pane and select (A, D, E) will my results show (E, D, A) or (E, D) as the value of A may be restricted due to ranking formula based on sales at Universe level.

    A production version of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver became available on 1/20/06, and we are having some issues getting it to work with WLS 9.1. The non-XA driver works fine, but when we attempt to use the XA version, we see the error below in our logs.     SabrinaHi. Have you done all the XA-related install for the new MS driver? (put the XA
    dll in the DBMS environment etc)? Is your DBMS on a 32-bit machine or 64-bit machine?
    Does the driver present a dll for each of those? You can also get good JDBC help
    from MS via their microsoft.public.sqlserver.jdbcdriver newsgroup.

  • Using CLR Integration in SQL Server 2005

    I have several CLR SQLProcedures in my SQL Database for performing performing complex selects with regex etc.   These work exceptionally well form with Visual Strudio for retrieving a dataset. However from within Crystal Reports I can not see these stored procedures, so cannot use the to report on, which was the whole idea of creating them.
    Also, if I create a standard sql stored procedure, but include a CLR SQLFunction, it also fails in Crystal Reports.
    Considering CLR Intergration ha sbeen around since 2004/5, I would have expected CR 2008 to ba able to make use of them, but I can find no way to make them work.
    I hope some one can assist me in this quest.

  • Restoring a SQL Server 2005 DB to a SQL Server 2014 install, is there any way to prevent it from being upgraded

    Does anyone know if there is a flag I can use to prevent a SQL Server 2005 database from being upgraded to SQL 2014 when it is restored to a 2014 instance?
    Don't ask why, I just need to know if this is possible or if 2005/8 DB's are required to be upgraded if they are going to run on SQL 2012/2014 instances. The documentation seems to say this is so, I just want to verify that.

    First: You cannot directly restore a 2005 database to
    2014. MS supports migration over 3 SQL Server version steps; means you can restore 2005 to 2008/2008R2/2012, but not to 2014. You have to do a migration step between.
    Olaf I was looking for this today, because I'm working with a new customer that have SQL 2005 and I have SQL 2014. And needed to restore a backup form the production server in my test server.
    When I read what you write I think, oh no!! I have to install SQL 2012 in my server. But that it's not an option for me, and I say let me try to restore the DB first in 2014 and if not work install 2012.
    You can restore a 2005 database to 2014 directly, and it works.
    For reference the version number in the servers 2005 (9.0.4035 SP3) and 2014 (12.0.2000 RTM)
    This is not related in any way to the original question that you answered (the file format will be upgraded to the new motor, that is sure).
    I put this lines because in the future there will be some people searching about if possible to restore a 2005 DB to 2014, and like me will read your lines and think it's not possible and that can make a decision to buy 2012 and not 2014 to that new server they
    will migrate.

    I have tested the new .Net Data Provider 1.0 for SAP Netweaver BI in SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS). What I am wondering is that could SQL Server Analysis Service (SSAS) connect to SAP BI, too? How to do this?

    You can use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) for this connection or through XML for Analysis (XML/A) (an XML standard for Online Analytical Processing - OLAP) it can be done. But I am not sure weather this service is available or not as SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, which is now certified to run reports on SAP BW.
    As I have never ventured in this, I would suggest you to use documentations of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) and SSAS given by MS.

  • Required Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Server Roles for JDBC Connection

    Hi!
    I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
    The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
    Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:

    Well i personally prefer usage of open source MS SQL SERVER 2k jdbc driver called jtds instead of the driver provided by MS themselves(which is proproteriry) as i had similar problem which i personally encountered when i was using it.

  • Creating and Using View Objects on JDev 10g against SQL Server 2005

    I'm currently working on this project on Jdeveloper against a SQL Server 2005 DB (I couldn't talk this people to migrate to Oracle... :-( ), and it's the first time I work with JDev against a database other than 10g.
    I had no problem making the connection, and I can see the DB in Conections->Databases, but when I create an app. module, and create entities and views and add them to the app. module to access them through the Data Controls, these don't work. I can see the view on the Data Controls, and when I drag them to my jspx page it shows the menu that let's me choose whether I want to create a table, or a selection, or a tree, but once I choose one, it does nothing.
    I've search all over the internet and haven't found a solution, so I come to this forum desperate for help, seriously.
    Please get in touch; if anyone knows another solution that doesn't involve not using JDev or SQL Server 2005, please let me know, because I basically need to have a few selectonechoice showing some data from a few tables.

    I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09).  The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0

  • Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g

    I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
    I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
    ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
    Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.

    Irfan,
    If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
    I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
    Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
    This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
    For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
    Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

  • SQL Server 2005 64-bit & SQL CLR Stored Procedures using DI API. COM Error.

    Hi,
    We've created a set of SQL CLR Stored Procs in C# .NET which use the DI API to import data into SAP (DEV was carried out on 32-bit environment).
    The DLLs and Interop.SAPbobsCOM have been successfully deployed as assemblies on SQL Server with their permission set to UNSAFE on the following environment:
    Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition 64-bit, Service Pack 2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3073.00 (X64)
    SAP Business One 2007 A (8.00.180) SP:00 PL:45
    When executing the SQL CLR Stored Procs from SQL Server Management Studio, the following error is returned:
    "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {632F4591-AA62-4219-8FB6-22BCF5F62007} failed due to the following error: 80040154."
    From our understanding, this occurs because SQL Server loads the assemblies into it's 64-bit process space, whereas the SAPbobsCOM is 32-bit. Are we assuming correctly?
    What can be done to solve this problem?

    I'd agree with your assumption that it's to do with your DLL running in a 64 bit process. When you build your project, try setting the build properties to use a X86 instruction set (ie 32 bit).

    I've never tried for a CLR stored procedure but this is how you get around the issue when running a DI API addon on a 64 bit machine so hopefully it will work if the dll is executed by SQL Server. Let us know how you get on.

    I have successfully set up a credential and proxy in SQL Server 2005 to run a SSIS 2005 job under my windows account. The problem I got is the password of  my account will expire sometime so the job execution will fail until I change the password
    in the credential. I am thinking either to ask our IT administrator to set my account to password never expire or use a different account for the credential. I have very limited knowledge regarding windows security. So if I go the second option what account
    should I use for the credential/proxy? I need to know about this before asking our IT admin.

    It must be a domain wide service account (with a strong, non-expiring password), not a private account with just enough rights to run packages (this implies the account must be able to connect to remote data sources and shares). Oftentimes, such
    an account also needs write access to the %temp% directory.

    Pratik, the SQL does not seem right. BTW you can only retreive data via Deski Free hand SQL. Also try to use OLE DB connection.

    In this forum we commonly discuss connections from Oracle to foreign databases. When you want to connect with your SQL Server to Oracle it would be better to ask that in a Microsoft forum as they support their LINKED SERVER mechanism.
