Using Replacement Variables Without Filtering in a Query

I want to use a replacement variable for the posting period and for current fiscal week, but I do not want my query results to be filtered by these values.  Instead, I just want to show a column with the fiscal period as a number and the current week as a number.  Does anyone know how to do this?
My query shows JAN-DEC values for all key figures but when I use the replacement variable to display NOV as a number, JAN-OCT is blank b/c the query is filtering by NOV.  I just want to see a column of "11s".
Any ideas?

Hi Tracey,
I was not able to reply you yesterday. After you gave the details, I had this solution in mind but it was a Friday evening and I had to leave.
My understanding :
When user enters the month in selection screen eg: 11 (Nov)
The key figure which is getting displayed in the report till month of Nov should be KF1 else it should be KF2.
So report should be like this
Jan  - KF1
Feb  - KF1
Mar  - KF1
Apr  - KF1
May  - KF1
Jun  - KF1
Jul  - KF1
Aug  - KF1
Sep  - KF1
Oct  - KF1
Nov  - KF1
Dec  - KF2
Solution:
Make a Restricted KF - RKF1
This will have KF1 with a restriction on the month column "<= " month enetered by user in selection screen (use the same variable)
Make one more Restricted KF - RKF2
This will have KF2 with a restriction on the month column "> " month enetered by user in selection screen (use the same variable)
Now make a Calulated KF
CKF = RKF1 + RKF2
Use this in your report.
I think this is what you are trying to get.
Please do award points if you found this useful.

  • How to replace variable value of a sql query dynamically

    Hi all,
    Trying to execute sql queries present in Oracle table and the query it self contains the ODI variable #EMP_NO.
    At the run time we thought of passing the variable values.
    table contains query like
    update table <table name> set <column name>= 5000 where emp_no = #EMP_NO
    We need to execute the sql query using a ODI procedure, to pick the sql query from table we use another variable #varSQLID and in the command on source tab wrote like
    select sql_query varSQL from emp_sql where query_id=#varSQLID
    Command on target
    #varSQL
    when ever I tried to execute I am getting error please let me know what changes are required .
    The question is whether it's possible to replace the variable value present in the above sql ?
    regards,
    Palash Chatterjee

    Thanks Siddhartha,
    Actually we have been doing the same, means half of the query has been kept in the table and rest is being added in the " command on source " tab of the procedure .
    But the problem is , the "where" condition is not same for all SQL queries,
    to provide 27 different sqls queries for 27 packages we have to create 27 procedures (as "where" condition may take other column values along with "EMPNO" for the JOIN condition ) .
    Any suggestion of keeing SQL along with the variable and storing it in the table may resolve our problem and work of 27 procedures can be performed by a single procedure .

  • Using Bind Variables in Parameter Form's Query

    I want to use bind variables in the query of Parameter form. But
    it does not allows. What is the other way out. The structure of
    my Parameter form is as under:
    State:
    Customer:
    Now I want that I want to list only those customer in the
    Customer LOV which belongs to the selected state.
    Thanks.
    Muhammad Nadeem

    Can we just link to an oracle form using a url still as we can with reports? I've built a report that requires the user to select from a dynamic list as well, and I know how to do this through forms, but can I simply call the form from a webpage?

  • Declare, Set, and Use a variable in a SQL Developer Query

    I come from the SQL Server world and am trying to do something very simple: Declare, set, and use a variable in a query. For example:
    Declare @lastPeriod date;
    Set @lastPeriod = (select max(payperiod) from table 1 where payperiod < current_date);
    Select field 1,
    Field2
    From table2
    Where payperiod = @lastPeriod
    The variable is going to be used in more areas in the query which is why I am simply not using a Sub-query in the where clause. I appreciate any assistance.

    This forum is for issues with the SQL Developer tool. You'd get more response in the SQL And PL/SQL forum.
    That said, read up on bind variables and substitution variables.
    Whenever you can you should use Bind variables (e.g. *:lastPeriod* ), as they increase performance. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (F9), but you do if you execute as script (F5) (e.g. VARIABLE lastPeriod VARCHAR2(30);).
    Alternatively, Substitution variables (e.g. *&lastPeriod* ) will literally be substituted in your statement before the database parses it. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (either F9 or F5), but you can (DEF lastPeriod='TEST'; ).
    Have fun,
    K.

  • What is the correct syntax for using a variable in an ad hoc query?

    Hi all
    I am an occasional DB user and at the moment need to update about 1000+ records so that a certain column gets a unique value.
    So I thought that I would use a variable for this.
    I then built this kind of SQL statement for just a small subset of the records:
    variable recNumber number;
    exec :recNumber := 1;
    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD + recNumber
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A','VAL_B');
    I get the invalid SQL statement error when attempting to execute above (besides the prompt that asks for a value which I would like to omit).
    Anyway I also tried this one:
    CREATE SEQUENCE seqCounter;
    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD + seqCounter.NEXTVAL
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A','VAL_B');
    From this one I got the error ORA-01722: invalid number...I am guessing this comes because seqCounter is of type number and the COL_TO_BE_UPD is of type character...(?)
    So what I would like to ask is what is the correct way to define and use a counter type of variable to append a number at the end of a character string?
    Also another question that I would like to ask is that are variables that are used in ad hoc queries also called 'bind variables'?
    Thanks muchly

    If you want to append a unique number to a column then this would do it:
    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD ||to_char(rownum)
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A','VAL_B');

  • Using a Variable to create the SQL Query

    I need to create a "dynamic" Update query. I want to store
    the meet of the command in a variable and then reference the
    variable in in query.
    Example:
    <cfquery name="fred" datasource="mydb">
    update db_table_name set
    pbname = 'Fred Flintstone',
    pbnumber = '555-555-1234'
    pbage = 25
    where recnum = 24
    </cfquery>
    I would like use code this:
    <cfset upst = "pbname = 'Fred Flintstone', pbnumber =
    '555-555-1234', pbage = 25">
    <cfquery name="fred" datasource="mydb">
    update db_table_name set
    #upst#
    where recnum = 24
    </cfquery>
    When I run this, I get the following error message:
    Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC
    Socket][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error
    (missing operator) in query expression ''Fred Flintstone''.
    The SQL line is:
    update db_table_name set pbname = ''Fred Flintstone'',
    pbnumber = ''555-555-1234'', pbage = 25 where recnum = 24
    I know its hard to see, but the '' are 2 ' not 1 " . I have
    no idea why Coldfusion (or maybe the ODBC driver??) is placing the
    2nd ' in the command which causes the errors.
    Can anyone shed some light on this topic?
    While this is a simple example, my application is far more
    complex. I have over 50 fields in the udpate and depending on
    changes to the form values, I may need to update all the fields,
    some of the fields or NONE of the fields.
    I can use <cfif> to test if any fields have changed and
    if so, include them in the update command, but if NONE of the
    fields have changed, I would have an empty update command and
    therefore get an error. I want to avoid having to test for changes
    twice (once to determine if I am doing the update and twice to
    perform the update).
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    cf automatically escapes the single quotes, so you need to
    preserve them
    <cfquery name="fred" datasource="mydb">
    update db_table_name set
    #PreserveSingleQuotes(upst)#
    where recnum = 24
    </cfquery>

  • Can I use formula variable in description of a query

    Hello, I created a query to list top N of vendors by the number of PRs created using condition in the query. N will be entered by users according to what they like (could be, top 10, top 5...). My query works reasonable, but I want to use variable to have the query description changes to reflect the top number user wants to see. For example, currently my report name is "Top N Vendor of PRs". Is there any way I can let "N" dynamically changes everytime when user enter different N? "Top 5 Vendor of PRs", "Top 10 Vendor of PRs", .....
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    I am still struggling and need your help. Here is what I did:
    1. Created a formula variable, let's call "ZFM_VAR" from BEx. Processing by: Manually Input/Default Value. Choose YES for ready for input.
    2. Created a text variable called "ZTX_VAR" from BEx. Processing by: customer exit. Variable entry is Mandatory. Choose NO for ready for input.
    3. Wrote following code from enhancement EXIT_SAPLRRSO_001 include ZXRSRU01:
    data: w_i_t_var_range like rrrangeexit,
             l_s_range type rsr_s_rangesid.
    CASE i_vnam.
        WHEN 'ZTX_VAR'.
           IF i_step = 2. "after the popup
              CLEAR: w_i_t_var_range,l_s_range.
              READ TABLE i_t_var_range WITH KEY vnam = 'ZFM_VAR'.
                 l_s_range-opt = 'EQ'.
                 l_s_range-sign = 'I'.
                 l_s_range-low = w_i_t_var_range-low.
                APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
          ENDIF.
    ENDCASE.
    After I am done the above 3 steps, I still didn't get the same value for ZTX_VAR as I entered in ZFM_VAR. When I run the function moduel in debugging mode, there is nothing in table i_t_var_range. Any ideas for what I missed or did wrong? If somebody can provide detailed instruction, that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    In left panel select the time Dimension
    Then hit new variable in that
    give the Name and Description for the Variable
    In processing by hit Replacement Path
    In reference characterisitcs use Calendar Day...
    As ur intention is to use it for Date
    Then in adjacent tab use
    Replace variable with Query / Variable
    Then u can use Offset length and offset start for controoling the display of your variable.
    Use as single, multiple single, interval, selection option as uwish

  • Replacement variables SQL Plus x PLSQL x APEX

    How Can I use replacement variables SQL Plus, integrating with APEX ,PLSQL?

    This isn't going very well is it?
    Perhaps it has something to do with a lack of knowledge of the english language, that you don't explain your case more, but I'll try to rephrase your question:
    You would like to call a query in SQL*PLUS from an Apex application?
    Then my answer would be simple: you can't.
    But my return question would be: why would you want that?
    You can also run your query in your Apex application and show the result on a page. Why is there a need to run it in SQL*PLUS?

  • How can I reference a winforms control using a variable in Powershell?

    I have a powershell winform that has a lot of text boxes, but for the sake of this post, lets say I have 5. I want to loop through the 5 text boxes to see if their text property is empty. If the textbox contains something, I want to add the text value to
    an array. Here's an example of what I'm trying to do.
    textbox1.text = "Red"
    textbox2.text = ""
    textbox3.text = "Blue"
    textbox4.text = ""
    textbox5.text = ""
    $MyArray = @()
    for ($i = 1; $i -le 5; $i++) {
    If ($textbox[$i].text -ne "") {
    $MyArray += $textbox[$i].text
    I realize the textbox object is not an array so this code will not work. I guess the simple question is, How can I reference a set of static controls using a variable without having to do something like this
    [object[]]$textboxes = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
    For ($i = 1; $i -lt 5; $i++) {
    $textboxes += New-Object windows.forms.textbox
    $textboxes[$i].DataBindings.DefaultDataSourceUpdateMode = [System.Windows.Forms.DataSourceUpdateMode]::OnValidation
    $textboxes[$i].Name = $textboxes[$i]
    $BoxItems.Controls.Add($textboxes[$i])

    Hi D-Dub,
    here are two ways to retrieve the text value of $Textbox1:
    $Textbox1.Text
    (Get-Variable "Textbox1").Value.Text
    Now what could you do with the second way, inside a loop, I wonder ... ;)
    Cheers,

  • How to use a variable value set from custom dll in dataset

    Hi,
    I've inherited a SSRS report that I need to add some functionality to.  I'm setting a variable, ADAuthorizations, from a custom dll
    ADAuthorizations is a string of all AD groups a user is a member of and I need to use this as a filter in a dataset.  I've tried using this variable as shown in the query below but I'm getting an error "The expression used for the parameter 'Unit_Permissions"
    in the dataset "Unit_Permissions" includes a variable reference.  Variable values cannot be used in query parameter expressions."  Is there another way I should go about doing this?
    = "SELECT UnitCode, UnitName " &
      "FROM dbo.VW_Unit_Permissions " &
      "WHERE UserId in (" & Variables!ADAuthorizations.Value & ")" &
      "ORDER BY UnitName "
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Please follow below steps,
    1. Create a custom code to get all the users in an array,
    Public Function getUserName() As String()
       dim Users(1) as string
       Users(0) = "user1"
       Users(1) = "user2"
    return Users
    End Function
    2. Create dataset using the below query,
    SELECT UnitCode, UnitName FROM dbo.VW_Unit_Permissions ORDER BY UnitName
    3. Add a parameter @User and set properties : (Datatype as text, Allow multiple values, Visible)
    Under "Available Values" select specify values and set the label and values as expression.
    =Code.getUserName()
    4. Similarly for "Default values" as
    =Code.getUserName()
    5. Go to tablix properties and select the filter tab and set the properties as below,
    - Select Expression "UserId" i.e =Fields!UserId.Value
    - Operator as "IN"
    - Value as =Parameters!User.Value
    6. Preview the report.

  • Domain template with custom replacement variables

    Hi everyone,
    the following document explains how to use "replacement variables" to prepare runtime scripts (bash) when a domain is created from a template:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e14139/tempbuild.htm#i1100973
    Other than the listed variables, is it possible to create our own variables? If yes, how can we assign values to those custom variables when creating the domain from a WLST script?
    Thank you,
    Gabriel Lavoie

    Have you taken a look at this hotfix?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907591
    We had to apply it in order for our variables to be seen.

  • How to feed a query using a variable defined as Replacement Path-Query

    Scenario description : BI NetW 2004S - InfoCube with the following characteristics Customer, OrderDate, OrderYear and the following KeyFigure Number of Pieces.
    Objective: I need a query "QB" that shows how many pieces a set of customers has ordered in the year 2008. The set of customers is defined as all customers that in the previous years (the user can select one or more years) have ordered more than 500 pieces within the same year.
    Implementation: In general terms the idea is to build a query "QB" with the characteristic "Customer"  that is restricted (filtered) using a variable that is fed by another query "QA" (Replacement Path-Query).
    In order to have the selection of customers that for each of previous years (2007, 2006, 2005,...) have ordered more than 500 pieces, in the query "QA":
    - I put OrderYear as filter and defined a variable in order to ask the user which year/s he wants to analyse to define the selection
    - I put Customer and OrderYear in row
    - I put the KeyFigure Number of Pieces in column
    - I've defined the following condition: Number of Pieces > 500 with the option Caracteristic Assignment = All Characteristics in the Drilldown Indipendently
    Now if I run the query "QA" it works correctly showing me all customers that in the selected years have ordered more than 500 pieces within of the same year.
    If I run the query "QB" it shows a correct result only if I enter only one year (for example 2006) in the OrderYear field (coming from the query "QA"); if I enter more than one year (for example 2006 and 2007) the selection of customers showed is not the same defined by the first query "QB": I was expecting to see all customers defined from the first query less all customers that have no ordered any piece in 2008.
    Questions
    1) Why is query "QA" working on a different selection of customers when the user selects more than one year?
    2) Cosidering the scenario and the objective described above do you have any other idea?
    Thanks
    Ciao
    Roberto

    Hi Christophe,
         it's ok for me if I consider the customer only once in the final selection of customers that feeds the final query, this is my objective.
    However as test I've created 2 "input" queries, one related to 2006 and one related to 2007, and then in my destination query I've tried to restrict the customer using 2 variables of type replacement path-query (one attached to the 2006 query and one attached to the 2007 query). Unfortunately when I try to check and save the destination query, Query Designer tells me it is not possible to restrict the characteristic in this way.
    Could you please describe me steps you run in to order to restrict a characteristic using more than one variable of type replacement path-query?
    Thank you in advance for your answer.
    Ciao,
    Roberto

  • Averages in a query using a variable with Replacement Path: Replacement wit

    I have two queries. Query1 has a handful of characteristics, one of which is used in a formula where I used replacement path in order to be able to use it in some calculated key figures. I also have a couple of key figures that are not calculated and they are averages.
    The second query has a characteristic value variable that is replaced with the first query. This replacement value variable is placed into the filter section and the characteristic itself is placed in the rows section. I am bringing in the same calculated key figures that were in my first query as well as the normal key figures that are averages.
    The issue I am having is the regular key figures that I am bringing in are coming in summed up instead of as averages. Is it possible to bring the normal key figures in Query1 as averages into Query2?
    There is more information in the thread below if you need more background.
    [Replacement Path and Aggregation;
    PS - I am using 7.0.

    Hi Satyakam,
    In the text variable properties make sure that in the replacment path you have chosen "Text" to appear date as per user setting . Other wise as in your case it must be set to "Key" which always shows in the format YYYYMMDD.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I...Mimic Replacement Path with Query using Customer Variable Exits?

    Hello SDN:
    We are on BW 3.5 SP16.
    We are currently using a replacement path Query(RP) with variables
    to populate a variable in another Query(T).
    The problem we are having is with performance.
    The entry of variables in replacement path Query(RP) is optional (This is necessary there cannot be required values)
    When results from Replacement Path Query are small performance is fine. (e.g. 10 seconds)
    When results from Replacement path query are large performance suffers. (e.g. 1+ minutes)
    Users are free to leave the replacement path variables empty resulting in a large set of data to be replaced. This is the worst performance case.
    We would like to discover a way to conditionally execute the replacement path query. That is if users do not enter values for the replacement Query(RP) variables do not execute the replacement path query(RP).
    Does anyone know if this is possible within reason and in customer exit space?
    We have reviewed the situation from all angles and the requirement for the replacement path FUNCTIONALITY and the freedom for the user to leave variable values blank remains.
    I've been searching and reading SDN and SAP notes for about a week and do not find threads which address this situation.
    We are also exploring Customer variable exits to mimic replacement path functionality
    (different topic subject="How do I...Mimic Replacement Path with Query using Customer Variable Exits?")
    Any help will be appreciated
    Many thanks
