Using "root" in Actionscript 3.0???

Does anyone know how to get the "root" action to work in 3.0?
It used to be (1.0 and 2.0) that using "_root." would go to the
root level of the movie (leaving a movie clip) and then you could
control the timeline (or target another movie clip), but now it
doesn't work.
Even using the Actions panel's "Target Path" - which puts in
"root" doesn't work. I understand the underscore has been
depreciated...
This is frustrating. I need to be able to make multiple movie
clips work with each other and none of the documentation explains
this issue.

Use "stage" or "root" property but first read AS3 basics
(tutorial). There
is a lot of differences. You are trying to implement AS1/2
programming model
to AS3.

...and conception of AS1/2 is also depreciated. If you read
AS3 conception
then you will find differences witch interpretation of "root"
property. It
is hard to explain in couple of words what is described in
many chapters in
Flas CS3 documentatnion.

You can dispatch events and catch them in parent objects.
Unfortunately
Flash not support "capturing" mode for dispatched user events
and you must
to create your own event flow from parent to children
direction (like in AS
1/2). I'm usualy using method named callbackEvent(...) which
is called by
parent for each of children. Each class in children object
contains this
method to propagate this kind of events. The advantage of
this method is
that you can "trigger" event for particular object you want
to control. This
object can decide to propagate or not the event to its
children.

How can I use LCCS with ActionScript 3 and Flash CS4?

Hi,
Using Stratus I was able to create an an application using Action Script 3 and Flash CS4. The sample code on the Adobe site was quite straight forward and easy to understand. I now want to switch over to LCCS but can't find anything any where on how to use Action Script 3 and Flash CS4 with LCCS. Do I need to know Flex to be able to use LCCS? Everything was quite simple and easy to understand with Stratus and makes complete sense. But LCCS is really confusing. Is there any sample code on how to establish a connection in Action Script 3 and then stream from a webcam to a client. There is nothing in the LCCS SDK that covers Flash and Action Script 3. Please help! I found the link below on some forum but it takes me nowhere.

Please refer to the SDK's sampleApps folder. There would be an app called FlashUserList. The app demonstrates how LCCS can be used with Flash CS4. Its a pretty basic app, but should help you moving.

Flex 4 states and using includein with actionscript

Hello,
How do you handle states and the "includeIn" tag in ActionScript? For example:

I'd have to see the xml to say what, but 1009 is what it says - a null reference has no properties, it is null.
Try tracing out SampleWebServiceCS.GetMember and you'll quickly see where along your .element.element path you have an error.
(BTW, I've not used s:Operation before, but is your syntax correct?)

Moving files between users using Root?

I won't have access to my Mbp for quite some time otherwise id test this out, and my time capsule took a ** on me so I figured I'd ask here. I wasn't able to find anything relevant online but then again I'm not too familiar with this process.
What I hope to accomplish is to use Root to copy/move iTunes media files from one admin account to another. Is this feasible?

I presume from what you write that this is referring to two accounts on the same Mac? Instead of activating Root (if that is what you intend), why not simply copy the iTunes folder using the Drop Box (in Users>Username>Public). Are you moving/copying them all? More information might bring forth some more accurate advice.

Lion can not connect to smb if use root login

I found if use root account login lion, that can't connect to smb but use other account ok.who can help me take a look?

This might help. I have a Seagate Dockstar (Pogoplug w/samba) with attached drives connected to my network that was easily discoverable with Bonjour in Snow.
From my experience -
I got the SMB share working (sort of) in Lion 10.7
While the network hub and connected drive(s) won't automatically appear as a Connected Server, or Bonjour Computer I was able to find the Dockstar by going to -
Go/Connect to Server and then enter it's specific info - smb://fabx2d09fe (my device's actual number was different than this).
The dialog pops up for name and password - or connect as Guest. I couldn't remember if I had set these so tried Guest and was able to access/mount the drive on the desktop and sucessfully read/write to/from it.
I may have to always connect to recent servers to get the thing to mount so it's not as automatic as Bonjour in the sidebar - but it does work!
This mostly solved the issue for my needs....maybe it would work for yours?

Unable to resolve single DNS name using root hints

Recently, we had reports that we could not internally resolve a certain .com domain name (discovered by undeliverable e-mails). A lookup using an external server (Google's in our case) resolves the .com name just fine.
Long ago, we had another DNS issue that lead us into implementing the following registry change:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DNS\Parameters
3. On the Edit menu, click
New, click DWORD (32-bit) Value , and then add the following value:
Value: MaxCacheTtl
Data Type: DWORD
Data value: 0x2A300 (172800 in decimal = 2 days)
That is the only DNS change that we have made. We are using root hints, but temporarily added Google DNS as a forwarder so that we are able to resolve this .com address.
As a test, I did remove that registry entry, restarted the DNS service and tested again to no avail.
Any starting points?

According to your description, my understanding is that DNS server can’t resolve .com with its root hint.
Could you provide more information about the DNS architecture, such as numbers of DNS servers, their locations and relationships, system version, etc.
And please post the results of NSlookup test(use local DNS server, and then use Google's server to resolve name ) here.

Using ImageMagick with ActionScript

I there a way we can use ImageMagick with actionscript. There are classes available for using it with PHP, Ruby on Rails ets.. but is there a way we can use it with actionscript?

I am working on an application where I want various text shapes like: vertical arch, bridge, bowtie etc... but the problem is that I am not able to figure out any firm solution for that in Flash. I came across the ImageMagick library and with Fred's ImageMagick Scripts for text effects, I think all the shapes I am looking for can be done. But unfortunately no AS wrapper is available for ImageMagick .
So was looking for a solution.

Unable to install update 10.1.12 over 10.1.10 on MacOSX 10.9.5, error 1301 , even using root user as suggested

Acrobat X Pro 10.1.10 has some problems since I installed MacOSX Mavericks (it refused to use a Gemalto certificat for signatures). I tried to upgrade it to 10.1.12. But was update is impossible to install (error 1301). I re-installed Acrobat Pro, as suggested. It did'nt fix the problem. Then I tried to update with root user permissions (as also suggested by Adobe). Still unsuccesfull, ever the same 1301 error.

This seems like a corrupt image.
Try to download this again and doublecheck that you are selecting the correct OS.
Otherwise ask Oracle to ship the DVD's/CD's.

How do I tell FMS to only serve a section of a file using server-side ActionScript?

We have a bunch of mp3 files on our server and we'd like to serve only particular sections of particular files to users. For example, hello.mp3 might be four minutes long, but when user 1 tries to play it, he should only be able to play the section from 0:30 to 1:00, whereas user 2 should be able to play the whole thing.
I'm coming from a background using Wowza Media Server, where this is fairly easy to achieve: http://fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=78.
Wowza doesn't require any change to the player (it doesn't call any special methods), so I'm looking for the same here.
I've been fiddling around with the main.asc file and the "Server-Side ActionScript" API to try and achieve something similar. In particular I've found the Stream.play method, which seems relevant. But I can't figure out how to attach a handler to a "play" event; all the examples I've seen only attach to Application.onConnect, which doesn't seem to include a connection to a particular file, which I need in order to determine the section that can be played.
So I'd like to do something along the lines of this (this is completely made up and doesn't follow any of the APIs; it's just an illustration of what I'm trying to achieve):

Basically you need to concentrate on E_PLAY event and two fields F_STREAM_LENGTH & F_STREAM_POSITION. I am pasting below some code which you need to paste in your sample Auth Plug-in which you can find in : <installdir>/samples/plug-ins. You would have paste below code in case E_PLAY section in MyFmsAuthorizeEvent::authorize() function and compile it. You would basically get AuthModule.dll which you need to place in modules/auth and restart FMS.

How to use URL in actionscript Instead of services-config.xml?

want to use compiler option -services witch need to recompile swf

If you are relying on a services-config.xml file, then this
must be provided
at compile time because the compiler uses it to generate
code.
If you're not using <mx:DataService>, you can actually
avoid compiling against
a services-config.xml file. This is because for the other
services, such
as <mx:RemoteObject> or <mx:WebService
useProxy="true"> or <mx:HTTPService
useProxy="true">, the main thing the compiler does from
services-config.xml
is to generate the code to instantiate the set of channels
that should be
used to contact a destination in LCDS.
Well... you can do that programmatically in ActionScript...

Just make sure you call this initialization code before you

Using components in actionscript project

Sorry if my question sounds dumb, but I just started learning
AS3.
I'm trying to use UI components in an ActionScript project.
I can't import the definition of mx.controls classes such as
Button or CheckBox.
Here's the code I'm using:

Tried compiling it using the FlexBuilder IDE? There's nothing
wrong with your code, so it sounds like your compiler doesn't know
where to find the libraries, or is looking in the wrong place. Are
you giving an explicit library-path argument?

Problem on web app using root context in weblogic 7.0.2

I got problem on servlet which running on root context "/" in weblogic 7.0.2. I have remove the default web app (which use the root context) before the web app. The web application was deployed without any error. However, when the servlet run to the line calling HttpSession.setAttribute, the following exception occurs. The weblogic server is running on Solaris 8. anyone can help?

          We are facing the same problem; i.e. we are getting the same error message when we are trying to run our struts application on Weblogic 7.0.5 using JDK 1.3.1. This problem occured particularly when we tried to do a load testing using approx 20 concurrent users (a lesser load was supported though). Can you please let us know how this problem was sorted out on your end?

First, I'm am unable to add any new users to my standalone server. Actually, I can add them but they won't authenticate. Am using File Services, AFP and SMB, and Web services for sharing iCals. No home directories, no NetBoot, no Open Directory Master, local users only. Pretty simple setup.
Second issue, which I'm thinking might be related, is that I have no System Admin (root) access to the server. I do have admin access to local directory. Tried to set root access starting up from OS DVD and it seemed to "take" but after restarting, Xserve does not recognize the newly set password (or the old one for that matter.)
Any ideas?
