Using Sendmail through Java

Hello,
How do you use the sendmail program from java. Are there any classes to do this. I can't use JavaMail because my ISP does not give me an SMTP server to use. They told me that I can use the sendmail program, but I don't know how to not only execute this program, but also to pass the necessary parameters to it.
Thanks

It seems to me in order to use a mail server (sendmail) it has to have a verifiable ip address are you on a desk top?
If you are the only way is to configure sendmail to emulate or (masquarade as another verifiable server)
probubly your ISP but that is not easy and or possibly not ethical.
This is tough this way so strangers and weirdos can't flood the mail system with untraceable mail.
You may find free smtp server access on the net somewhere.
I think using sendmail with java.mail package or any java mail package is the same as comunicating with any mail server only now with a local address I could be off on that as well.

  • Sending mail in java using sendmail programme of lynix

    Hi,
    How can I send mail using Java and lynux "sendmail" programme located at i.e sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail.
    I don't want to use JavaMail API for sending. I want to use sendmail of lynix server. Plz help me. It's very uregent.
    Regards,
    Devom

    Hey Guys, here is the workaround for sending mails in java through javamail program of linux/unix:
    step 1 - Create a shell script which sends the mail using the 'sendmail' program. I have written below code in my shell script:
    #!/bin/sh
    #script to send simple email
    # email subject
    SUBJECT="Test Subject"
    # Email To ?
    EMAIL="[email protected],[email protected]"
    # Email text/message. This file will be automatically created and all text will be appended in it.
    EMAILMESSAGE="/tmp/emailmessage.txt"
    echo "This is a sample mai text."> $EMAILMESSAGE
    echo "And this is a also." >>$EMAILMESSAGE
    echo " " >>$EMAILMESSAGE
    echo " " >>$EMAILMESSAGE
    echo "Thanks & Regards," >>$EMAILMESSAGE
    echo "--Your Name" >>$EMAILMESSAGE
    mail -s "$SUBJECT" "$EMAIL" < $EMAILMESSAGE
    So create this script and save it as 'sendmail.sh' name in the same directory where you are executing your main java class. Please also note that this file should have full executable permissions for the program which is using this file.
    Step 2- Here is my Java code that executed this shell script:
    public void sendEmail()
    String operatingSystemProp = "os.name";
    String operatingSystemName = System.getProperty(operatingSystemProp);
    if(!operatingSystemName.startsWith("Windows"))
    String cmd = "./sendmail.sh";//unix shell script
    try
         Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    }catch (Exception e)
         e.printStackTrace();
    You just need to call this method in your java code. This method will actually pick that shell script in runtime and will execute it, the rest will be handled by the shell script itself.
    So this workaround works fine for me and now I am sending mails through my java program using sendmail.
    Cheers!

  • How to append records in MSAccess through Java using JDBC:ODBC

    Hello,
    I was able to retrieve records from MSAccess database through JAVA over the JDBC-ODBC bridge.
    If I want to append records to a table (for eg. photo1 table containing photono., length, breadth, area as
    columns) I could not able to do so through JAVA.
    I am using JTable with the above fields. The user is displayed with the JTable and he has to enter
    data inside the JTable and press a button titled "Append". Then the JAVA program should append
    whatever the user has entered in the JTable as a single record inside the MSAccess database.
    Can anyone help me please?

  • Can I connect to Oracle server7.1  through Java-JDBC using the latest thin drivers???

    Hey Gurus,
    Please help me .
    MY Current requirement is to connect to multiple oracle 7.1( and other variants) servers running on different operating systems, through Java/JDBC.
    My FIrst question is, can i connect to older versions of database using latest drivers?
    I could connect to the server running on SCO-oracle 7.1 using SQLNet8.1.7 under windows. But the same is not happening when the client is on Linux.But I need to connect from linux
    It says ORA-03113 - End of communication channel.
    What may be th problem.
    If any one could show some pointers where I can get more information about this problem would be helpfull
    THanks
    Lokesh

    I tried the classpath suggestion above (not the one modifying the .xml file) , but it didnt work for me , I am using WLI 10.3.1 and trying to connect DB on 8.1.7 V . I downloaded the classes12.jar and the ojdbc14.jar file from the oracle and placed in lib and the even included the classpath , but i again got the same exception .
    All this while i was selecting the option Oracle Driver Thin from the DataBase Driver when creating the connection pool from console . I tried with "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" and it worked for me .. Although the option "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" lists only the DBs from 9.0.1 to 11 G , but in my case using this driver i am able to connect to Oracle DB 8.1.7 . So all you guys if it classpath doesnt fix the issue try out by selecting Driver , "BEA Oracle Driver (Type 4)" .
    Manoj , this will fix the Connection pool part of the ques, but for the java part Try to load the Driver class "weblogic.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver" before connecting to DB with Class.forName.

  • Problem while executing BAPI_PRODORD_GET_DETAIL through JAVA using JCo

    Hi All,
    I am trying to get Production Order details in JAVA program using JCo. Following is the code I have written.
    JCoDestination destination = JCoDestinationManager.getDestination(ABAP_AS);
    JCoFunction function = destination.getRepository().getFunction("BAPI_PRODORD_GET_DETAIL");
    if(function == null)
    throw new RuntimeException("BAPI_PRODORD_GET_DETAIL not found in SAP.");
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("NUMBER", 1067831);
    JCoStructure struct = com.sap.conn.jco.JCo.createStructure(destination.getRepository().getStructureDefinition("BAPI_PP_ORDER_OBJECTS"));
    struct.setValue("HEADER", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("POSITIONS", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("SEQUENCES", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("OPERATIONS", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("COMPONENTS", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("PROD_REL_TOOLS", 'Y');
    struct.setValue("TRIGGER_POINTS", 'Y');
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("ORDER_OBJECTS", struct);
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("COLLECTIVE_ORDER",'Y');
    try
    function.execute(destination);
    catch(AbapException e)
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    return;
    JCoStructure returnStructure = function.getExportParameterList().getStructure("RETURN");
    if (! (returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("") ||
       returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("S") ||
       returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("W")) )
    System.out.println(returnStructure.getString("MESSAGE"));
    JCoTable codes = function.getTableParameterList().getTable("HEADER");
    int iCnt = codes.getNumRows();
    System.out.println("No Of Rows " + iCnt);
    int iFldCnt = codes.getNumColumns();
    JCoMetaData codesMD = codes.getMetaData();
    for (int i = 0; i < codes.getNumRows(); i++)
    codes.setRow(i);
    // Display the data
    The number which I am passing is a valid production order. When I test this BAPI in SAP gui with same input, it gives back the data but when I try to run this through java I always get the return message as this production order does not exist. Is there anything wrong I am doing?
    I am using JCo 3.0
    I have tried passing various values to ORDER_HEADER structure. I have tried getting the structure from import parameter list and then setting the values on that itself. Nothing has worked for me.
    Thanks,
    Dayanand

    The problem is solved. I just set the order number as string and added 0s before the order number to complete the required length. Also I changed the setting import structure for order header. Each field in the structure should have value as 'X' or ' '
    JCoDestination destination = JCoDestinationManager.getDestination(ABAP_AS);
    JCoFunction function = destination.getRepository().getFunction("BAPI_PRODORD_GET_DETAIL");
    if(function == null)
    throw new RuntimeException("BAPI_PRODORD_GET_DETAIL not found in SAP.");
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("NUMBER", "000001067831");
    JCoStructure struct = com.sap.conn.jco.JCo.createStructure(destination.getRepository().getStructureDefinition("BAPI_PP_ORDER_OBJECTS"));
    struct.setValue("HEADER", 'X');
    struct.setValue("POSITIONS", 'X');
    struct.setValue("SEQUENCES", 'X');
    struct.setValue("OPERATIONS", 'X');
    struct.setValue("COMPONENTS", 'X');
    struct.setValue("PROD_REL_TOOLS", 'X');
    struct.setValue("TRIGGER_POINTS", 'X');
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("ORDER_OBJECTS", struct);
    function.getImportParameterList().setValue("COLLECTIVE_ORDER",'X');
    try
    function.execute(destination);
    catch(AbapException e)
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    return;
    JCoStructure returnStructure = function.getExportParameterList().getStructure("RETURN");
    if (! (returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("") ||
       returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("S") ||
       returnStructure.getString("TYPE").equals("W")) )
    System.out.println(returnStructure.getString("MESSAGE"));
    JCoTable codes = function.getTableParameterList().getTable("HEADER");
    int iCnt = codes.getNumRows();
    System.out.println("No Of Rows " + iCnt);
    int iFldCnt = codes.getNumColumns();

    How can i use palm os emulator through java wireless toolkit?
    thanking you
    shivam sahai

    hi,
    I hope that you already have the J2ME Toolkit and that your emulator works okay. In the toolkit you get several examples to show you how to program a MIDlet. One has to do with a HTTP client server connection. Also in the API documentation for the J2ME there is a Connector class that you used to set up this communication and in the description of this class it pretty thoroughly explains how to set up an HTTP protocol client.
    However, if you want to do some other kind of networking then you are pretty much out of luck, as the TCPIP socket protocol has not been fully implemented and is optional to the J2ME specifications, only the HTTP protocol is certain to be available. This means that mobile phone companies can add other networking functionality to their phone's java virtual machine if they feel like it. This is a bummer I know.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Mark

  • Is using Excel through Automation with Java possible ?

    Hi, I'm currently a Visual Basic developper thinking of moving to a java based RAD technology.
    For a couple projects, I need to generate Excel Spreadsheets and present them to the user. I usually do this in VB by using the COM object provided by Excel, instancing it and using the Range([cellname]).value property to write data in the sheet.
    Is their any way to do a similar thing in Java, or does this level of comfort come solely by using a Microsoft developpement product (thus more integrated with office) ?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Writing java functions in MS Visual J++ 6.0, instead of in MS VB, and then compiling as a COM function has been the only way I've been able to mix the convenience of spreadsheet IO (alas, still in Excel) with the powerful functions we can write in Java.
    2. It's ironic java programmers must still build IO interfaces in their IDEs every time they want to write & use a new java function, while MS has made user-written VB functions available to all Excel users (even to MS Word users). Last time I looked, the Star Office speadsheet only allows writing functions in ersatz VB (Sun Basic) instead of in Java.
    3. To Sun: Please make java available to the masses by giving us a spreadsheet that runs user-written java functions. The spreadsheet is the most powerful programming paradigm around. Remember when Lotus made a zillion $? You can make more money from Gates's vision than by imitating his products.

    Unicode characters in the mail content are replaced by “?”.
    In the function listed above I have used the MIME Setting as
    Multipart multipart = new MimeMultipart("alternative");
    I have tried by using “relative” MIME format also as
    Multipart multipart = new MimeMultipart("relative");
    But I am not getting the actual format passed as input to the Java Application in the mail content.
    Can anybody let us know how to overcome this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    You need to really understand how the different multiparts work instead of just guessing.
    But for your application, you don't need a multipart at all. Just use msg.setText(msgText, null, "html");
    Although that doesn't explain your problem, it will simplify your program.
    How are you determining that the mail received doesn't have the formatting? Are you viewing it in a
    mail reader (e.g., Outlook)? Or are you fetching it with JavaMail?
    Are you using an Exchange server? Exchange will often reformat your message to what it thinks you meant.

    Hi

    There isn't any core Java API for this. Use JNI or call an external process with Runtime.exec().

    are not store in Ms-Access.
    I store the input parameter through Standard Action <jsp:useBean>.
    jsp:useBean call a property IssueData. this property exist in
    SimpleBean which create a connection from DB and insert the data.
    At run time servlet and server also show that loggging are saved in DB.

  • Error while running executable file through java in WinNT

    I would like to run an executable file with Java.
    - If I try with notepad or paint, i.e. Windows Applications,
      I have no problem.
    - I also can run Non-Windows-Own Applications, except one.
      I get an error message, if I want to run this program through Java.
    I have tried following commands to run an executable file.
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c "+command);
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c start "+command);
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c start /wait "+command);
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /k start "+command);
    command : the path to the executable file
    I can run the application directly, if I click the icon on desktop,
    but not through Java.
    here is the error message I get
    screenshot : http://www.aykut.de/error_message.jpg
    Text : "Security Check failure"
            The Logon System has been tampered with.
            The Administrator will need to re-install.
    my Idea :
    The application is "old".
    I think it was written for Win 3.1.
    Therefore I don't know if there is any other
    possibilty to run a "DOS Exe File" through Java.

    I have just figured out how it works,
    if somebody else here in forum have this problem,
    here is the solution :
    String path = "F:\...\...\Application.exe";
    String envDir = path.substring(0, path.lastIndexOf("\\"));
    String[] command = {"cmd.exe", "/c", "start", "/wait", "/D"+envDir, path};
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    "start /Dpath" => path: environment directory F:\...\...\
    "start /wait" => wait until Application.exe terminates
    if you use Win95 or Win98 use command.com instead of cmd.exe

    After completed all the steps we have got the variable type SimpleSOAP at script but we did not found it to object constructors or object attributes (plz find the attached screenshots). We will appreciate if you plz guide us to solve the issue.
