Using SLT for migration (Sybase ASE(15.7) to MS SQL server 2014)

Hi,
Is it possible to use SLT for data migration (Active-Active replication) from Sybase ASE (15.7) to MS SQL Server (2014) ?
I want to use a separate host to do this migration, if possible.
Viral Dave

Hi Viral,
What do you mean the SLT for data migration? Do you want to use Sybase ASE as the source system, and MSSQL as the target system? If yes, I think it is possible.
Best regards,
Candy Zhan

  • Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hello Every body,
    Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
    Here is the current platform:
    OS Win 2008 64 bit
    JDK 1.4.2
    JBoss 3.2.5
    EJB 2.1
    My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
    Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Zeeshan Qureshi

    In general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
    1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
    2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
    3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
    4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
    5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
    6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
    7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
    Hope this helps..
    Regards
    Prakash

  • How to use open Row set in sql server 2014

    Hello All,
    How to open the row set using sql server 2014 using link server connection.

    Hi  denyy,
    Are you referring to the OPENROWSET function in SQL Server 2014?
    The OPENROWSET method is an alternative to accessing tables in a linked server and is a one-time, ad hoc method of connecting and accessing remote data by using OLE DB. The examples below demonstrate how to use the OPENROWSET function:
    A. Using OPENROWSET with SELECT and the SQL Server Native Client OLE DB Provider
    SELECT a.*
    FROM OPENROWSET('SQLNCLI', 'Server=Seattle1;Trusted_Connection=yes;',
    'SELECT GroupName, Name, DepartmentID
    FROM AdventureWorks2012.HumanResources.Department
    ORDER BY GroupName, Name') AS a;
    B. Using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Jet
    SELECT CustomerID, CompanyName
    FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
    'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\SAMPLES\Northwind.mdb';
    'admin';'',Customers);
    GO
    C. Using OPENROWSET to bulk insert file data into a varbinary(max) column
    USE AdventureWorks2012;
    GO
    CREATE TABLE myTable(FileName nvarchar(60),
    FileType nvarchar(60), Document varbinary(max));
    GO
    INSERT INTO myTable(FileName, FileType, Document)
    SELECT 'Text1.txt' AS FileName,
    '.txt' AS FileType,
    * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK N'C:\Text1.txt', SINGLE_BLOB) AS Document;
    GO
    D. Using the OPENROWSET BULK provider with a format file to retrieve rows from a text file
    SELECT a.* FROM OPENROWSET( BULK 'c:\test\values.txt',
    FORMATFILE = 'c:\test\values.fmt') AS a;

  • Is there a way to trick MS Service Manager 2012 to use SQL Server 2014 when installing it?

     I recently set up a virtual Lab on my laptop. I dont have much resources on my laptop and can only have around 5 servers. the problem is that i already set up SQL Server 2014 standalone and configured all of my services to use that server which works
    fine. however when i try to install MS Service Manager 2012 it throws "SQL has to be either 2012 or 2008" error ..
    is there a way for me to trick the Registry so Service Manager will install?
    Thank you

    I don't know a trick to install SCSM 2012 on a SQL Server 2014. But maybe you can use a SQL Server 2012 for installation temporary and move the db after installation is done to your SQL Server 2014?
    Moving the Service Manager and DW Databases
    Might be worth a try. But it's definitely not recommended for a productive environment!

  • Transactional replication from SQL Server 2014 to Sybase 12.5

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to set up replication between SQL Server 2014 and Sybase 12.5 in which SQL server would be the publisher and Sybase as  subscriber.
    Regards..
    aa

    Hi Ashif,
    According to this
    blog, it is possible to set up transactional replication from SQL Server to Sybase.
    To achieve this, you could set up transactional replication via the Sybase OLE DB driver after you set up Sybase as a
    linked Server.
     For how to set up transactional replication, please refer to the article:
    http://sqlserverscribbles.com/2013/06/26/how-to-create-transactional-replication-in-sql-server/

    thanks in advance.

    Hi SQLDBA321,
    The SSDT-BI is automatically installed under xxx:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\. Now matter in GUI or command line, we can't change the path. Because SSDT is a feature of SQL Server, not a feature of Visual Studio. It just use the Visual
    Studio Shell. So SSDT will only be installed with SQL Server.

  • What is the recommended static port range for SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2014 named instance?

    I want to assign a static port to SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2014 named instance.   Should the port be greater than 49151?  The following links give contradicting information:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177440(v=sql.105).aspx
    Avoid numbers greater than 49151 which Windows might select for other purposes.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345327(v=sql.100).aspx
    Port numbers should be assigned from numbers 49152 through 65535
    Thanks..

    I would still pick a port number below the ephemeral list (dynamic port usage [41952-65535]) as it'll reduce the chances of having a port collision when SQL Server starts up.
    Also, I'd stick to lower numbers if possible (<25,000) as some firewalls skew higher port numbers to be more malicious (if heuristics are used).

  • Are all features available in Power BI for office 365 available in On-Premise Excel, SQL server etc

    Are all features available in Power BI for office 365 available in On-Premise Excel, SQL server etc
    Thanks
    Nate

    No. The tools used to create Power BI reports are available in the on premises versions:
    Power Query
    Power Pivot
    Power Map
    Power View
    To take advantage of these in a PowerBI site, or to use Q&A you need a subscription to Office365 with a PowerBI license.

  • Create MS SQL Server 2014 instance for TSQL2012 sample database Training kit (70-461)

    Hi,
    I just bought the Training kit (70-461) Querying Microsoft SQL server 2012. I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2014. I have also downloaded the script for the sample database -
    TSQL2012.sql.
    Basically I want to set up the sample database and practice my SQL queries. How do I log into
    Microsoft SQL Server 2014? Basically I am doing this on my home computer. It is asking me for Server type, Server name, and Authentication. Do I have to set up a server instance to run and create the sample database? How?
    Thanks.
    Peter

    Do you see anything in the Server Name at all?
    So, in the first drop down you need to select Database Engine.
    In the second (for Server Name) if you see anything, then try selecting it.
    If there is nothing, try methods described in this article
    http://sqlserver-help.com/2011/06/19/help-whats-my-sql-server-name/
    to find the actual name.
    Then, try choosing Windows Authentication and try connecting. If this would not work, then you do need to try using sa and sa's password. If there is no way to find that sa password, then perhaps it's better to clearly uninstall and re-install. If you want,
    I'll move your thread into either 'Getting Started' or Data Access forum as it doesn't seem to be related with Transact SQL.

  • SQL Server 2014 Standard, but only 2 GB RAM used

    Hello,
    I just installed MS SQL Server 2014 Standard Single x64 on a Windows 8 PC. It was bought to replace the Server Express because the RAM limitation of Express.
    I set min server memory to 500 MB and max server memory to 28672 MB. PC has 32 GB Ram.
    Now I start a very crazy procedure/query that is running for hours.
    The problem is now that task manager shows:
    - SQL Server Management Studio (32 Bit): 0% CPU and 135,4 MB RAM
    - SQL Server Windows NT - 64 Bit: 60% CPU and 2.032,6 MB RAM
    If I use: SELECT * FROM sys.dm_os_process_memory  I get:
    physical_memory_in_use_kb : 2124632
    memory_utilization_percentage : 100
    So why is there Management Studio 32 Bit if I installed it through MS SQL Server 2014 Standard Single x64 installation?
    And much more important: Why is only 2 GB RAM used if 32 GB are there and 28 GB should be used?
    kind regards
    Peter
