Using Sql Queries in OBIEE Reports

Hi all,
I need to use direct sql query in report function column.. How can I implement that.
For example
Our report name is /shared/Automotive/Vehicle Services/Most Serviced Vehicle Models
we have to eliminate /shared/Automotive/Vehicle Services/ part from above report name.. I have done this in sql using the Query SUBSTR(COL,INSTR(COL,'/',1,4)+1).
So kindly help how to implement above sql query in Obiee.. Urgent.

If "Report Name" is a column then you can simply create a custom formual and apply the substring logic to it to get at the single report name instead of the full path.
Otherwise this logic can easily be accomplished within the RPD via a logic column expression.

Thanx in advanceArrggh. I wish people wouldn't just answer a question without taking the time to actually think about what the user is asking for and if it makes sense. I like Diney's response best: Why not use the Title View? (i.e., asking questions until it is clear what is needed.) So along those lines, why are you trying to put the name of your report in a column of your report?? And why do you need to use direct sql to do this??
Kindly or not, urgent or not, state what you are trying to achieve and why you need it (if the obvious answer like "using the Title View" doesn't work for you), instead of simply assuming your method is right and you need to know how to do what envision. Your method may not be correct or necessary.

Depends on the version of BAM u are using
For version 10.1.3.X u can use enterprise link or External data Source...
FOr 11g u can use ODI or External Data Source ...

Problem occured when create a tree table for master-detail view objects using SQL queries?

I am programming a tree table for master-detail view objects using SQL queries and these 2 view objects are not simple singel tables queries, and 2 complex SQL are prepared for master and view objects. see below:

3. I create a view link to create master-detail relationship for these 2 view objects.
masterview.SourceBlock (1)->detailview.SourceBlock (*).
4. I create a tree table using these 2 view objects with master-detail relationship.
When I set default value for variable bindings of these 2 view objects and the matching records exist, tree table can work well. I can expand the master row to display detail row in UI.
But I need to pass in dymamic parameter value for variable bindings of these 2 view objects, tree table cannnot work again. when I expand the master row and no detail row are displayed in UI.
I am sure that I pass in correct parameter value for master/detail view objects and matching records exist.

5. What's wrong in my implementation? I don't have no problem to implement such a tree table if using simple master-detail tables view object, but now I have to use such 2 view objects using complex SQL for my requirement and variable bindings are necessary for detail view object although I also think a bit strange by myself.

Extracting SQL Queries from Crystal Reports

I am trying to find a way or a utility to be able extract SQL queries from Crystal reports into a text file for documentation purposes. These queries are not in the repository, they were entered into each of the reports when the reports were being built and I can't find a way to extract them. Any ideas/suggestions?

CR doesn't have the ability, and I don't recall if this has ever been asked previously. Great suggestion for the Idea Place tab in the up right corner of this page.

Using SQL queries via ODBC connection to obtain data for a report

Hi All,
I was trying to run a Crystal Reports report through Clearquest using an SQL query I designed in CQ to give me the data I need, however, from within ClearQuest, I cannot associate an SQL query on a report, so I went directly to Crystal Reports and am using the ODBC connection to the ClearQuest database to run the report. I selected the right tables and fields and am using the same formula that I used on ClearQuest's SQL query to get the data, however, the report doesn't return any data whereas I am getting at least 5 records from Clearquest for the same query.
Granted there's a difference in the way you create a SQL formula in Crystal, but I don't know if I'm doing it right as I've never had to use CR as a standalone product.
Is there a way I can directly plug my ClearQuest's SQL query into the CR and run it? I don't know why the results won't return any data for a query that has some results

Did you try to add a command through the Database Expert? Also creating a Business View that contains your sql query might help as well.

Cross tab data is getting multiplied if i use multiple queris in asingle report

HI,
i am using multiple queris for displaying data and graphs(charts).
my requirement is to display 2 charts and data in crosstab in a single report.
all the three thing (2charts and crosstab) will use diffrent values.
I am writing 3 sql queries for getting appropriate values for charts and crosstab.
Now the problem, both charts and crosstab are taking the values of all 3 queris
i.e if i added crosstab first to the report values are coming correctly. After that if i add graph cross tab values are getting changed and graph values are not getting properly.
if i add graph first then its coming correctly.
if i tried to add all 3 components then values are going cores...... ?

When you say you are writing 3 sql queries what do you mean? Are you creating 3 SQL command objects in the database expert? If so this is your problem, Crystal will pull a cartesian product through (this is every possible combinatin of rows from the 3 queries).
If your 2 graphs and 1 crosstab are based on different datasets the way to approach this is to create each on a seperate report, then create a new blank report and add each of your 3 reports as subreports in the report footer.

Sysql - use SQL queries against output of linux commands

Hello!
Many linux commands have table-like output. Sometimes it is better to analyze such output as a real table in relational database. I have published prototype of utility that parses output of one or several linux commands, saves it in database and allows to make SQL queries to that data. Program is written on python and uses sqlite database engine.

Here is why I wrote it:
* No need to remember command syntax to format command output - just select necessary fields in SQL query
* No need to know sed, awk, head, join and other linux commands to manipulate with output - it's all SQLite
* Table data is stored with meaningful column name and type (int, text, float, datetime etc)
* All power of SQL can be used to query output (JOIN, WHERE, GROUP BY etc.)
* To support new command, output parser must be developed only once and then can be shared with community to make life easier
* All supported commands are kept in one place as set of python files, so it is easy to find out how to customize existing parsers or create new ones
This is my first community contribution, so kindly ask everyone to share your opinions and advices on what can be done better. Thank you!

You may consider something like a global repository for output parsers accessable directly via sysql.

Linking two PL/SQL queries in 10G reports builder

Hi,
I have two complex SQL queries and I want to link one to the other.
ie. I have a class of applicants and I want to retrieve their information, I do this with query one. Then for each applicant I have a number of checks all of which must be held in a cursor, so I have query two. But for each entry in query one I want to link it to the entry in query two.
Data links dont seem to work for PL SQL queries, so any suggestions on how I would do it?

Aix 5.3
I dont have oem access. How ever, I would like to generate reports using queries for the following.
1. Response time overview - per statement execution response times and response time break down.
2. wait analysis overview
3. CPU Overview - stats that can pin point cpu usage areas.
4. TOP i/o's - at session level/ statement level.
I would appriciate queries/URLs

Other than that: if some people don't want to tell you the perfstat password (maybe for valid reasons), do you think they will be happy when you start running your own queries against the v$ views (often quite expensive)
or do you think you will gain more by cooperate with them. Other than that: if you want to run your own v$ queries why do you outsource writing them to this forum?

SQL Monitoring using SQL Queries

I am using Oracle 10 g DB. I have an application which has Oracle as DB. Its a multiuser application. During the testing of one of the page we found that saving couple of records takes huge time (50-60 seconds). I dont have access to the logic written in application code to know which all queries gets executed when user click on save button.
I know that there is SQL Monitoring available in OEM why which you can find out the queries which got executed and also the execution time for those queries.
However I dont have OEM access.
Can you please let me know teh set of queries which probably will use few of teh V$ data dictionary views and provide me the same details as generated in the Monitoting report generated by OEM ?
I want to see all the queries which got executed in last defined time (say 10 mins, 1 hr etc) , same way as it is done in OEM and not just the last sql.

Hi,
I recommend you to install STATSPACK - it's a free tool that can be used instead of the Automatic Workload Repository (that is used in OEM).
This tool creates snapshots of V$ views in defined time period, so it enables you to see long runing queries in history.
If I were you I would run SQL trace just before the problematic part and then stop it just as it has finished. It would be better to run trace only for the problematic session or module - not for the whole database. SQL trace generates a file with all the executed queries, explain plans, stats, ...
In extreme case just create copy of v$sql before and after the problematic part and compare them (new sql_id, elapsed_time delta, ...)

Using Sql Functions in Crystal Reports

Can SQL table-valued functions be used in Crystal Reports? The only options I see in the Database Expert are Tables, Views, and Stored Procedures.

Are you referring to user-defined SQL functions? If yes, then these are not accessible in Crystal Reports.
You would need to create a stored procedure which calls the function and does the processing and use this procedure in CR.

XML errors when running specific reports in SCCM 2012, using SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services

I've posted this to the SCCM 2012 forum and only received one response so far that states that this is a known issue that has been discussed before and isn't easy to fix; I was not given any actual solution either. Since this involves SSRS I
thought I would try my luck here as well.

I try to run either of these reports (Computers with specific software registered in Add Remove Programs; Count of instances of specific software registered with Add or Remove Programs) I receive the XML error shown in the attached screenshot. I'm fairly
sure the problem is the same as the other admin was experiencing and I just need to remove the unprintable characters (of the application name) from the dbo.v_Add_Remove_Program column.
The error references 0xFFFF but I could not find what that exactly translates too, other than it appears to be at the end of the spectrum for Unicode characters. I used the following sql query to search for the 0xFFFF entry, but no results were found:

When I used the original hex value of 0x28 I get plenty of results returned with "(" in them so the query seems sound. One of the articles I was searching mentioned running the query manually using the Management Studio and looking for strange characters
there but I'm not sure how to do that.
Basically I just need help finding the offending character and removing it. I also need to be able to replicate this for other strings as this looks like an error that will reoccur whenever any new software appears that has weird encoding in the title.

This is a known issue that error occurs when running report "Count of instances of specific software registered with Add or Remove Programs" due to non-printable characters for XML. Based on internal research, the hotfix for this issue will be
included in the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1.
As a workaround, you can remove the nonprintable character populated into the report parameter by referring to the following KB article:

Using Sub Queries in OBIEE

Hi,
I am new to the OBIEE world and was wondering how we can work with sub queries. I have the following problem.
I have a table namely XYZ in which we have "effective date" and "Amount". In the answers section have have filter out the data for the month of 01-Nov-08 to 30-Nov-08 which shows the total cash amount for that month. Now the problem is that I need to use the same "effective date" and "Amount" to get the opening balance which is calculated by Sum(Amount) where "effective date" < 01-Nov-2008. If i try to do this I do not see any results as the data gets filtered out. Can someone please help me on this?

But search in SQL book hasn't got that err. Some person spoke ExecuteQuery property wasn't support Table Delete and Create, it only support simple Select... I tried to use Recordset but don't success. Can I use "Delete" and "Select ... Into..."   query another style??? Help me, please...!!!
