Using Sql views in Load rules

<p>I am trying to create a load rule from a SQL view. When I openthe Sql in the Rules file, the headers show up, but there is nodata.</p><p>Is there something else I need to do? (I did not create the SQLviews myself)</p><p>I am quite capable of loading data/dimensions from a SQL queryor table, but this table needed to be combined with another so myMIS supprt created a view for me to use to load from.</p><p> </p><p>Any help would be greatly appreciated!</p><p> </p><p> </p>

I had probems with certain column types in the past. Had to convert them to strings. It's been a while so I dont remember what type. The best way to find something like this is to modify your sql to return one column, try it and see it it works, if it does, then add a the second column, etc. It can be tedious if you have a lot of columns but beats sitting there scratching your head.

  • Using SQL view object to create ADF table

    Hi,
I have created a column called "Month" (which extracts month from the date column) and another column to count the no. of requests.
i want to create an ADF table with 2 columns, a column showing the month and another is showing the no. of requests for that month.
However, now I only managed to achieve the ADF table to show the overall total requests, which means if i add up all the requests for all the months and i get 500
    My ADF table shows this:
    Jan: 500
    Feb: 500
    Mar: 500
How should I create the view or what should I do to make it such that the no. of request is based on the month?
    Please advice.
    Thanks (:

    Hi,
For the given situation you can create a Query Based View Object with the following query
    SELECT
    COUNT(TEMP1.DT) REQUEST,
    TO_CHAR(TEMP1.DT, 'Mon') MONTH
    FROM
    TEMP1
    GROUP BY
    TO_CHAR(TEMP1.DT, 'Mon')
where DT is the date column and temp1 is the name of the database table.
Following are the steps that i followed to get this query :
i have taken the following sample table :
    create table temp1
    (srno number primary key,
    dt date)
*Note you may use any existing column instead of srno or use dt only (i took an extra column as u know we need a primary key /row id)
the following is the sample data
    insert into temp1 values (1,sysdate);
    insert into temp1 values (2,sysdate);
    insert into temp1 values (3,add_months(sysdate,1));
    insert into temp1 values (4,add_months(sysdate,1));
    insert into temp1 values (5,add_months(sysdate,3));
    insert into temp1 values (6,add_months(sysdate,5));
    the table appears as follows
    SRNO DT
    1 22-JUN-12
    2 22-JUN-12
    3 22-JUL-12
    4 22-JUL-12
    5 22-SEP-12
    6 22-NOV-12
To start with ADF View Object Creation (Using Jdeveloper 11.1.2):
Create the view object using Create View Object wizard
    In Step 1. Name window
set the value for Name : Viewab (you can use any of ur choice)
In the data source section : select query
    In Step 2. Query window
    a. Click Query builder (it will pop up sql statment window)
    b. In the SQL Statement window
in quick-pick objects section -> select temp1 table -> shuttle the columns from available list to selected list
in select clause section -> select srno column from select list-> choose count() function from function drop down list -> insert function -> set alias to REQUEST-> click validate
now select dt column from select list -> choose to_char() function -> click insert function -> alter the function to to_Char(temp1.DT,'Mon') -> set alias to Month -> click validate
in the group by clause section -> Click the green symbol to add -> from the expression palette insert dt column -> insert the to_char function -> alter the function to to_char(temp1.DT,'Mon') -> click validate
in the Entire SQL Query section -> click test query -> in the test query window -> click query result-> you will see the result -> click close -> click ok
    Click next
    Step 3: Bind Variables
    Click Next
    Step 4: Attribute Mappings
    click Finish
So the view object is ready :)

  • Using SQL view From SQL Express in Flex

Hello All ,  i am new at Flex and yet searching for a basic answere to even more basic question...
i am currently looking for a way o extract and import SQL views from my SQL Express database ( on my local host) and present it with RIA on desktop, grpahs Charts etc.
my question is, which way is the best to do so ?
need i to use Coldfusion For the Data ?  and then Flex3 For the design ( i.e Graphs)?
or maybe using another ODBC program for XML file and then Connect it as Data Resource into the flex3 project
as you must see , i am a bit confused....
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
If you go for AIR you can directly connect to Database and you can get the data and can be shown graphically ,
But if you Go for Webapplication(Flex ) then definately u should use some backend like CFC,PHP,JAVA,.Net............ in order to connect to DB and use Remote Objects/HttpService and show the Result Graphically..............

  • Reg: Building Essbase dimension using SQL in rule file

    Hi,
We are using Essbase 11.1.2.2. I am trying to build a dimension in a cube using SQL query in the rule file, but i am not able to do it.
I am not able to establish connection to database. Can anyone please give a step by step process to do this.

If you really, really, really want to do this --- and by that I mean really get rid of everything in a dimension, create a dummy file with a single child.  That single child should have a name that could never exist in your system.  Something like "Forty-seven ginger headed sailors".  Then set the Dimension Build Settings Member Update to "Remove Unspecified".  Run the dim build -- it will clear out all of the dimension.
Then take your other dim build rule file and use the same Remove Unspecified setting.  That will get rid of the silly member.  The source can be a file or SQL.
Ta da, you have now cleared out the dim, added a single silly member, cleared out the dim again, and loaded the right members into it.
There may be a better way to do the above, but I have done exactly that and it works.

    Cameron Lackpour

  • Sorting members using Load Rule Parent Child Method

    Hi all,
I have a Product Dimension with around 7 gen's and wanted to sort Gen 3 members under parent (say CommProduct). All these members are initially loaded using Studio and i am trying sort Gen 3 members using a text file / Load Rule (Parent Child Method). I have "Allow Moves" ,"Allow Property Changes" and member sorting: None checked for the load rule. I tried updating the outline using the load rule, however the outline remains unchanged and members sorted by alphabets.
    Essbase Version: 11.1.2.3
    Current Hierarchy:
    Product
               CommProduct
                                     A
                                     B
                                     C
                                     D
                                     E
    Hierarchy Wanted:
    Product
               CommProduct
                                     A
                                     C
                                     E
                                     B
                                     D
    Dim Build Text File:
    Parent,Child,Aggregation
    CommProduct,A,+
    CommProduct,C,+
    CommProduct,E,+
    CommProduct,B,~
    CommProduct,D,+
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Can't you create a column where you can specify the desired order and build accordingly. I don't think you can achieve that using a load rule. Allow moves works only if the members are under a different parent. In your case it is the same parent.

  • SQL data Load rule with Substitution variable

    Hi,
I have a data load rule with MySQL as a data source. I have requirement where user does not want to see Current day data in cube and they keep changing days not to be loaded.
I have setup the substitution variable SUBv as '2009-11-04' and have scripts to update it daily.
Data Load rule in where condition contains
brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> &SUBv
Now, above where condition does not work for date <> &SUBv but if I set substitution variable SUBv as "brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> '2009-11-04' " and set load rule where condition with just &SUBv it would just work fine. I dont know whats wrong in 1st place.
I dont want to create multiple where condition in substitution variable (Don't we have limit on them?). I have 40+ load rules which might use this SUBv substitution variable if I find a way to define it so that it work as "brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> &SUBv"
    Thanks,
    Vikram

I did some research and came to know when using substitution variable in Load rule need to keep substitution variable first in string..
    It worked out magically.

  • Substitution Variables in Essbase Load Rules File

    Hi,
Has anyone tried using substitution variables in Load Rules File Header definition?
I need to load data based on the Year & I have different Files for 3 Years- CurYr, BudYr1 & BudYr2. Is it allowed to specify the Year Substitution variable in the Rule File Header? I am getting an error while loading.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    -Ethan.

    Tim,
    Thanks for the response.
I figured it out. The error message I was getting was because of some parsing issue. I have defined Year as "FY12" in quotes. I removed quotes & it worked.
    Thank You.
    Ethan.

  • Opening data load rule

I am able to open a database outline, this database has got just one data load rule, on opening this, I get to see a blank upper window with lower table having some columns matching with some of the dimensions in outline. What can I make out from this data load rule regarding the location from the data is coming into the dimension members?? In otherwords how can I know where is data source for the dimension members and rules applied to it before data is loaded to dimension members.

There's no way to know what file was used to build the load rule, or what files have been loaded using the load rule. You have to maintain your own documentation, or some kind of naming convention that makes it clear.

  • Changing a Load rule programatically. (SQL interface)

Does anyone know if you can change the source odbc connection for a load rule programatically? I'd like to write a MAXL or script that will change my cubes to point to my dev OR my test environment - but I have 15 load rules for each cube. (5 or 6 cubes to change).Thanks.

As far as I have been able to determine you can not modify a load rule programatically. Your only solution is to copy the load rule then change the sql query. Alternatively you could use a view as the underlying SQL i.e. Select * from View. You could then modify the view as required. i.e. run the load with the view pointing to table1 then modify the view to point to table 2 and run the load again.

  • Load XML File into temporary tables using sql loader

    Hi All,
I have an XML file as below. I need to insert the contents into a temporary staging table using sql loader. Please advice how I need to do that.

Two options that come to mind. Others exist.
#1 - {thread:id=474031}, which is basically storing the XML in an Object Relational structure for parsing
#2 - Dump the XML into either an XMLType based table or column and use SQL (with XMLTable) to create a view that parses the data. This would be the same as the view shown in the above post.
Don't use sql*loader to parse the XML. I was trying to find a post from mdrake about that but couldn't. In short, sql*loader was not build as an XML parser so don't try to use it that way.

  • Substitution variable in sql load rules file

    Okay gurus,
I need a little guidance, I have to replace the value of 201020 and 2008 from substitution variables. I have created the variables and set them up globally on the essbase server.
    201020 = FW00
    2008 = FY00
    WHERE ACT.FISCAL_WEEK_ID <= 201020
    AND ACT.FISCAL_YEAR_ID > 2008
AND RTDIV.DIV IN (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,99) (This is the query with hard coded values of week and year)
When i m trying to put sub variables there , its throwing the error. please find below the way i was trying to do it.
    WHERE ACT.FISCAL_WEEK_ID = '&FW00'
    AND ACT.FISCAL_YEAR_ID = '&FY00'
But unfortunately, its throwing error Error: 1021001 Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information
I know that this is the generic error because if i put the hard coded value in sql load rules it works fine.
Is it the right way to out sub var in sql load rules???
Please advice and thanks in advance.

    Hi Genn,
I tried to see the app log for sql but i m afraid that there is nothing in there, the only error message which I am getting in app log is this:
Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information
Its an ASO cube and initially i was using the variable as FY00 AS "2008" it did not work and than i tried without quotes in variable but is still not working.
    Any idea..thanks in advance.

  • Sql and load rule file query

Currently loading the data with the script , which it contatins
Retreving data from oracle through SQL interface on to rules files
    and loading the data.
just my question is , if i get 0 records from oracle , i dont want to proceed with the loading of data (which is no useful ).
Can i stop the loading if records are zero.

As far as I know there is nothing in MaxLIt that could tell that there were no rows. The MaxL statement would return a zero code saying that the process worked ok. It would be prossible in your batch script to have mutiple calls to MaxL and between them to do something like make a call to your sql DB getting the count of rows for your query. Investigate the result and if it is zero, then get out of your load and calc process (I guess you could do that even before you try to load).
Or how about scheduling a job that creates an output file with the count if it is greater than zero. If it is, then run the batch load process if it is not, then bypass it. There are multiple ways to do this outside of Essbase, just not in it.

    Hi Experts,
I'm trying to create SQL based load rule for BSO application.I'm not sure what i'm missing but in data field it shows " 0" or "-0" in EAS while retriving a data from Oracle. When I execute same query on oracle data was there.
The data field which i'm not getting correctly is "SUM(aa."AMOUNT").Any suggestions ?

  • Using SQL*Loader and UTL_FILE to load and unload large files(i.e PDF,DOCs)

Problem : Load PDF or similiar files( stored at operating system) into an oracle table using SQl*Loader .
and than Unload the files back from oracle tables to prevoius format.
    I 've used SQL*LOADER .... " sqlldr " command as :
    " sqlldr scott/[email protected] control=c:\sqlldr\control.ctl log=c:\any.txt "
Control file is written as :
    LOAD DATA

    REPLACE

    Fields terminated by ','
    id sequence (max,1) ,

data LOBFILE(fname) terminated by EOF )
It loads files ( Pdf, Image and more...) that are mentioned in file r_sqlldr.txt into oracle table r_sqlldr
Text file ( used as source ) is written as :
    c:\kalam.pdf,

This loads data from r_sqlldr table (BOLBS) to files on operating system ,,,
-> Same procedure with minor changes is used to unload other similar files like Images and text files.
    In above example : Loading : 3 files 1) Kalam.pdf 2) CTSlogo1.bmp 3) any1.txt are loaded into oracle table r_sqlldr 's 3 rows respectively.
file names into fname column and corresponding data into data ( BLOB) column.
Unload : And than these files are loaded back into their previous format to operating system using UTL_FILE feature of oracle.
so PROBLEM IS : Actual capacity (size ) of these files is getting unloaded back but with quality decreased. And PDF file doesnt even view its data. means size is almot equal to source file but data are lost when i open it.....
and for images .... imgaes are getting loaded an unloaded but with colors changed ....
Also features ( like FFLUSH ) of Oracle 've been used but it never worked
ANY SUGGESTIONS OR aLTERNATE SOLUTION TO LOAD AND UNLOAD PDFs through Oracle ARE REQUESTED.

Thanks Justin ...for a quick response ...
well ... i am loading data into BLOB only and using SQL*Loader ...
I've never used dbms_lob.loadFromFile to do the loads ...
i 've opend a file on network and than used dbms_lob.read and
UTL_FILE.PUT_RAW to read and write data into target file.
actually ...my process is working fine with text files but not with PDF and IMAGES ...
and your doubt of ..."Is the data the proper length after reading it in?" ..m not getting wat r you asking ...but ... i think regarding data length ..there is no problem... except ... source PDF length is 90.4 kb ..and Target is 90.8 kb..
    thats it...
So Request u to add some more help ......or should i provide some more details ??
