Using SqlServer Compact Toolbox

Hi, there.
I am starting to use VS2013 with SqlCe databases and the SqlServer Compact Toolbox.
I have 2 SqlCe databases which I have updated from version 3.5 to 4.0.  In the toolbox, I can view/edit top 200 rows of both.  So, the data seems OK for both.  But I can only add Entity Data Model (EDMX) for one of them.  For the failing
database, I see Row count for all tables -1, whereas for the other I get correct row count.  Something seems to be different and wrong with that database, but what?  The data is all there.
Any comments will be appreciated.
Gudni Sigurdsson

Hi, Erik.
You were right, of course.  One of my databases had a primary key defined, whereas the other did not.  After having defined a primary key for the "failing" database, I could add an EDMX for that one as well.  "Failing" means here only not
being able to create an EDMX.
I have used SqlCe databases quite a bit in the past, both for desktop computers and on handheld devices for data acquisition in the field.  When I decided to move from VS2008 and VS2010 to VS2013, I found that SqlCe was not supported.  Then, your
SQL Server Compact Toolbox came to the rescue.
Thanks a lot, Eric.

  • Accessing typed dataset in SQL Server Compact Toolbox in VS 2013

    I am a novice with coding so this could be a very simple answer. I am coding an application in Visual Studio 2013 with VB. I included a Compact SQL Server database using the SQL Server Compact Toolbox add in. The database shows up in my solutions explorer.
    I plan on using a typed dataset for my application but when I try to reference the dataset using this code the intellisense doesn't recognize it.
    Dim newCustomerRow As DHA_dbDataSet.CustomerRow
    My database is named "DHA_db". I am sure there are steps I am missing.
    How do I reference the typed dataset so I can add rows and data to it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Hmm...

    The Toolbox (I am the author of it) does not support Typed DataSets (and neither does VS 2013, I believe). You should use LINQ to SQL instead, and the Toolbox supports code generation for this.
    Please mark as answer, if this was it. Visit my SQL Server Compact blog http://erikej.blogspot.com
    Thank you a ton. I started off with an incorrect assumption about the dataset. Your advice and a google search led me to description of how to add a typed DataSet.

    I like the Toolbox add in. Thanks for authoring it!

  • Exporting SQLServer Compact (*.sdf) to SQL Server Express 2012

    I'm using ErikEJ's SQL Server Compact Toolbox 4.0.0.1 in VS 2013 to attempt to upgrade an .sdf to an SQL Server Express database.  I go "Script Database for SQL Server", which generates a file.  The next instruction is to:
    You can now open the generated script in Management Studio and execute it against a SQL Server database.
    I'm missing something here - I can open it easily enough in SQL Server Management Studio ("File | Open") but how do I execute it?
    Thank - Tim

    Hi Tim,
    Quote: and execute it against a SQL Server database.
    We can execute the script with key F5 or by clicking on the "Execute" Icon in SSMS symbol bar as Olaf mentioned above. But there is one more thing we need to pay attention to. Before executing the script, we’d better create a new user database,
    then we can execute the script against our new user database (or other user database we have, but not any system database).
    How to execute the script against the database:
    Click the DropDownList box next to the "Execute" Icon in SSMS symbol bar and select the database, then click the "Execute" Icon.
    In addition, for more information about how to create a SQL Server database, please refer to the following article:

    If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Error using SQLServer 2000 in Weblogic 8.1

    Hi,
    I am trying to use SQLServer for my Entity Beans in Weblogic 8.1.
    When I use the default PointBase database, my project deploys fine.
    However, when I create a new domain for using SQLServer 2000 and try
    to use the new data source for SQL Server 2000, I get the following
    error when I try to deploy my entity beans:
    Unable to deploy EJB: ProjItem from ProjectPlannerProj.jar:
    [EJB:010102]Error encountered while attempting to create Default DBMS
    Table: 'projitem'. Error Text: '[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for
    JDBC][SQLServer]Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'End'.'.
    Can anybody tell me why I get this error with SQLServer 2000 and not
    with PointBase database?
    Thanks,

    I have Photoshop Eleent 12 and use a Windows PC.  I hae been using a Canon EOS 50D for several years, which uses a Compact Flash Card.  I have always downloaded pictures by using a card reader wich I connect to my computer. I Go to the Organizer, click on "Import" and select "From camera or card reader".  Once on the Photo Downloader, I select the pictures, chose the folder and click on "Get Media" and all the photos get downloaded. Today I folled the same procedure as always, but ZI'm gettig an error message that reads"Import Failed" followed by another message that reads "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this Catalog."  I'm puzzled by this message and don't know what to do o get my photos.  Any suggestions?

    The organizer doesn't care where you send your photos when you download them via the downloader or where they happen to be when you first bring them in if you use the Get Photos command, but once your pics are in the Organizer, you *must* move them from within organizer or it can't find them. You don't have to use My Pictures at all if you don't want to, but regardless of the folder where you put your photos, if you want them someplace else, you use organizer to do it.

    Hello,
    Create the sequence and a stored procedure which returns the sequence as follows:
    CREATE SEQUENCE mySequence_tinyint AS tinyint
    GO
    CREATE PROCEDURE Central_CreateSequence
       @NextID BIGINT OUTPUT
    AS
    BEGIN
       SET NOCOUNT ON;
       SELECT @NextID = NEXT VALUE FOR mySequence_tinyint;

    long ll = -10
    DECLARE proc PROCEDURE FOR Central_CreateSequence @NextID = :ll OUTPUT;
    EXECUTE proc;

    CLOSE proc;
    IF SQLCA.SQLcode <> 0 THEN

  • Has anyone implemented a QUADRATURE IN / QUADRATURE OUT application using the Compact FieldPoint?

    Has anyone implemented a QUADRATURE IN / QUADRATURE OUT application using the Compact FieldPoint? The units being used are the cFP-QUAD-510 [input] and the cFP-CTR-500 [output]. What I would like to do is use the QUAD-510 to capture a quadrature signal from a sensor, which in turn would generate a count per quadrature detection. Within LabVIEW, adjust the count received. Then, output a quadrature signal, based on the adjusted count, using The CTR-500.

    Hello Andre,
    Thanks for your response. That example does provide the output desired, and it is currently being use in my application, along with the 32-bit counter example available via NI for the QUAD-510, which also works. My query was mainly geared to find out if an application with the characteristics described in my original question has already been implemented, this, to avoid "re-inventing the wheel." Additional input on this thread is welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

  • Error 7 produced when saving to a spread sheet file using a compact rio

    Hi
    Im having a little difficultly saving to a spread sheet file using a compact rio. I bundled the data from a NI 9215 with a timer and stuck it into an x-y graph and that works fine as it goes round in shift registers. But then I passed the data out of my while loop unbundled it, turned it into a 2d array and tried to write it into a spread sheet file using the appropriate i/o vi provided by labview 8.2. I have hooked up all the requirements like format, and file path. But it keeps returning error 7 and says that my file path is incorrect. I’ve tried using a constant file path, ive tried creating the file before running the program, ive tried just writing the file straight to a disk in this case h:\test.asc but every time it comes back with error 7. I then went to a lab downstairs to see how they did it and the method I’m using it works down there but is exactly the same as mine upstairs. I’m a little confused by this one.
    Any pointers would be much appreciated.
    Dan

    Hi
    I apologise I didn’t specify I was only using a NI cRIO-9004 not realising you could get ones that had a USB port. I thought mine would behave in the same way as a DAQ device and write the file back onto the main computer hard drive. Is this not what happens if not how do you make it do that. The computer is a networked system with its own C:\ harddrive, but my personal space is on H:\ which must be like a pretend hard drive, or alternatively can you make the cRIO write it to a memory stick within a USB port of the programming PC itself. Or can you write onto memory of cRIO but then how do you download the data?
    Also I apologise that I posted the message twice only did cos I thought it might be in the wrong forum.
    Thanks
    Dan

  • How can I use the instrument toolbox in MATLAB 6.1 to contol the PCI-GPIB card under Linux?

    I'm trying to use the PCI-GPIB controller to control lab equipment through MATLAB 6.1 (R12.1) under Linux. MATLAB's instrument toolbox seems to integrate with NI's board, but the MATLAB documentation says it requires the installation of a driver. I've downloaded the linux gpib driver, and I'm able to run the associated utilities (ibconf, ibic, ibsta), but MATLAB cannot interface to it. For example,
    >> g=gpib('ni',0,1)
    ??? Error using ==> gpib/gpib
    The specified VENDOR adaptor could not be found.
    Where can I find a MATLAB driver and how can I install it?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hello-
    The knowledge base: "Can Matlab for Windows Call the National Instruments GPIB Driver?" Also applies to this question as well. This article is very extensive. Try searching on ni.com for "+matlab +gpib" for more details.

    As I using the SQLServer JDBC dirver, the manuals tell me to use the driver like this::
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");

    Theres a link on the URL examples page in the doc to "Connection String Properties". One of the optional properties is DatabaseName. You can use it like this:

  • Using Apple compact keyboard with pre-10.5.6 OS version?

    Hello,
    I was considering to purchase one of those new compact keyboards (the wired one), but was a bit put off to see it requires 10.5.6 or newer?! I presume that's either a documentation glitch, or if not, just how many keys are there with a function that requires a specific driver? Anything to do with the 'Fn' key, by chance?
    Thanks,
    René

    I'll contribute (part of) an answer myself.
    I didn't find an occasion to go try a keyboard at a shop, and in any case I'd not have wanted to buy a French keyboard, very likely the only version they'd have in stock and/or be willing to sell. So, I set out to order one online, hesitating between the (supposedly compatible) wireless and wired versions. I finally balked at the number of batteries to use in the wireless ones, and ordered a wired.
    Well, it works. All the keys but one work, except of course for the special functions except the eject key. That's about what I'm used to with my full, external, white-keys-in-transparent-plastic keyboards. So that's the good news.
    The bad news is that the one key that doesn't work is the Fn key. Not before and not after installing the keyboard updater (which btw. gave messages about extensions not being updated because already present in a newer version). So, I have no Delete, no PageUp, PageDown, Home and End keys. And this is annoying for serious text entry (for which I got the keyboard!)).
    Can anyone here please confirm from personal experience that the Fn key is functional on laptops? I'd guess (hope) that key doesn't send a different code in the wired and wireless versions, so either the key is dead on my keyboard, or it's one of those keys the systems only supports a single one of? But in that case, the one on the wireless keyboard shouldn't be functional either, should it now?
    (a Logitech doc that came with a recently ordered trackball mentioned that some keys on they keyboards don't work if you've already got an [Apple] keyboard connected ... inevitably the case on a laptop!)
