  • Connection String with Crystal Report XI R2

    Hello,
    I am having an issue with Crystal Reports XI R2 and figured this would be a good place to start and post my question.
    I created a report in Crystal Reports XI and am now trying to pass the user id and password so that the user can just run the report. I attempted to use the Crystal Report connection string setup but receive an Microsoft ODBC error when trying to use that.
    My question is how can you pass a userid and password to crystal report XI so that when you open the report it runs without prompting the user? I do not have access to .NET. Can this be done using Crystal Reports XI only?
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Shaun

    Hi Shawn,
    Standalone CR can only do that if using a URL to open a report in BOE.
    For CR Designer itself the only option is to turn on Trusted Authentication in your Server, used Mixed mode and then import all of your users into SQL Server. Refer to MS's Help file on how to.
    Now when the user runs the reports CR will simply pass the local user info to SQL Server and no prompting will be required. We still respect DB security so if the user is not allowed to access the table then CR respects that.
    Thank you

  • DNS Less Connection String

    Hi everyone, I'd like to ask if I could connect to the Database using a DNS Less Connection String. How can I do so? Please tell me the connection string.
    Thanks lotz

    What do you mean by a 'DNS Less Connection String'?
    You can use an IP address instead of a hostname, if that is what you mean.

  • TimesTen connect string

    Hello,
    I want to connect to TimesTen with the following details, DSN = DSN1, UID = pft, PWD = pft. How can I give the command.
    Thanks,
    Prashant

    This is all explained in the documentation...
    If you are using ttIsql:
    connect "DSN=DSN1;UID=pft;PWD=pft;OraclePWD=pft";
    If you are using ODBC, pass the connection string "DSN=DSN1;UID=pft;PWD=pft;OraclePWD=pft" to the SQLDriverConnect() function.
    If you are using JDBC, use the URL "jdbc:timesten:direct:DSN1;UID=pft;PWD=pft;OraclePWD=pft" when calling the getConnection() method.

  • Connection string in dev and production

    I have a several servers that i want to pull data from.
    I put the connection string in a OBJECT variable that come from configuration table and use it in the for loop mapping the value to local variable called connectionstring, this variable is the expression for the connection string property.
    So far everything is working as expected.
    my problem is that on my development i put my local server in the connection string variable so i will be able to connect to the server so i will be able to map source to destination.
    When i deploy the solution to production the data in the configuration table is different obviously but i get a connection error that saying that it try to connect to my dev server.
    Any idea why?
    Thanks.

    Seems like you haven't configured your package properly
    Here are some important consideration for SQL Server Configuration
    Now, let’s go through some important considerations that will help you to understand this configuration type better, and to avoid common implementation issues:
    SQL Server configurations are very flexible, as you can store multiple configuration properties/values in the same table.
    Multiple packages can use the same configuration table and filter.
    You can have a configuration filter for each entry in the configuration table, or you can use the same filter to group a set of entries. If you use the second approach, make sure that all properties under the selected filter exist in the package
    being configured. Otherwise warning messages are generated for those properties in the configuration filter that do not exist in the target package.
    You can use existing database security and backup policies to protect the configuration table contents.
    A drawback of this configuration type is that it relies on an SSIS connection manager to get access to the configuration table, but does not have built-in support for updating its connection string. In other words, the connection string that points
    to the configuration table is hard-coded inside of the package, and you have to take extra steps in order to update it (for example, through an extra package configuration placed at the top of the Package Configurations Organizer, or in SQL Server 2008, by
    using the /CONN option of DTExec).
    The /CONN option of DTExec utility can be used to override the connection string used by the configuration only in SSIS 2008. This is because SQL Server 2008 Integration Services reloads configurations after applying DTExec command line options.
    The configuration wizard can create the table and insert the required rows when they do not exist, but only if the direct method is chosen. The wizard never includes any sensitive data in the ConfiguredValue column of the table, and you would need
    to manually update the table to add the required sensitive data.
    If you use the direct method, and provide an existing configuration filter, the wizard will prompt you to either reuse the configuration information in the table or to override it with the property values from the current package. Make sure that
    you understand this behavior, since choosing the wrong option could change the contents of the configuration table and produce unexpected execution results.
    When you use the indirect method, the environment variable must contain the name of the configuration connection manager, the name of the configuration table and the configuration filter. The syntax should be:
    “ConfigurationManagerName”;”Schema.ConfigurationTableName”;’ConfigurationFilter”
    As with the direct method, you have to account for extra logic if you need to modify the connection string inside of “ConfigurationManagerName”

  • Powershell use Connection String to query Database and write to Excel

    Right now I have a powershell script that uses ODBC to query SQL Server 2008 / 2012 database and write to EXCEL
    $excel = New-Object -Com Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $True
    $wb = $Excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $ws = $wb.Worksheets.Item(1)
    $ws.name = "GUP Download Activity"
    $qt = $ws.QueryTables.Add("ODBC;DSN=$DSN;UID=$username;PWD=$password", $ws.Range("A1"), $SQL_Statement)
    if ($qt.Refresh()){
    $ws.Activate()
    $ws.Select()

    $excel.Rows.Item(1).VerticalAlignment = $xlTop
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Name = "Calibri"
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Size = 11
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Bold = $true
    $filename = "D:\Script\Reports\Status_$a.xlsx"
    if (test-path $filename ) { rm $filename }
    $wb.SaveAs($filename, $xlOpenXMLWorkbook) #save as an XML Workbook (xslx)
    $wb.Saved = $True #flag it as being saved
    $wb.Close() #close the document
    $Excel.Quit() #and the instance of Excel
    $wb = $Null #set all variables that point to Excel objects to null
    $ws = $Null #makes sure Excel deflates
    $Excel=$Null #let the air out
    I would like to use connection string to query the database and write results to EXCEL, i.e.
    $SQL_Statement = "SELECT ..."
    $conn = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
    $conn.ConnectionString = "Server=10.10.10.10;Initial Catalog=mydatabase;User Id=$username;Password=$password;"
    $conn.Open()
    $cmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand($SQL_Statement,$conn)
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output += ,@($rdr.GetValue(0), $rdr.GetValue(1))
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    How would I read the columns and data for $sql_output into an EXCEL worksheet. Where do I find these tutorials?

    Hi Q.P.Waverly,
    If you mean to export the data in $sql_output to excel document, please try to format the output with psobject:
    $sql_output=@()
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output+=New-Object PSObject -Property @{data1 = $rdr.GetValue(0);data2 =$rdr.GetValue(1)}
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    Then please try to use the cmdlet "Export-Csv" to export the data to excel like:
    $sql_output | Export-Csv d:\data.csv
    Or you can export to worksheet like:
    $excel = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $true
    $workbook = $excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $sheet = $workbook.ActiveSheet
    $counter = 0
    $sql_output | ForEach-Object {
    $counter++
    $sheet.cells.Item($counter,1) = $_.data1$sheet.cells.Item($counter,2) = $_.data2}

    val1; val2; val3; val4; val5; val6;
    i need to read the data as an individual strings and i need to pass those values to diffarent labels,the dat in Data3 i have to read those values and add to an table datamodel as 6 columns and rows depends on the data.
    i try to retrieve data using buffered reader and inputstream reader,but only the way i am retrieving data as an big string of entire line ,i tried with stringtokenizer but some how i was failed to retrive the data in a way i want,any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hmmm... looks like the file format isn't even very consistent... why the semicolon after Data1 but not after Data2 or Data3??
    Your algorithm is reading character-by-character, and most of the time it's easier to let a StringTokenizer or StreamTokenizer do the work of lexical analysis and let you focus on the parsing.
    I am also going to assume your format is very rigid. E.g. section Data1 will ALWAYS come before section Data2, which will come before section Data3, etc... and you might even make the assumption there can never be a Data4, 5, 6, etc... (this is why its nice to have some exact specification, like a grammar, so you know exactly what is and is not allowed.) I will also assume that the section names will always be the same, namely "DataX" where X is a decimal digit.
    I tend to like to use StreamTokenizer for this sort of thing, but the additional power and flexibility it gives comes at the price of a steeper learning curve (and it's a little buggy too). So I will ignore this class and focus on StringTokenizer.
    I would suggest something like this general framework:
    //make a BufferedReader up here...
    do
      String line = myBufferedReader.readLine();
      if (line!=null && line.trim().length()>0)
        line = line.trim();
        //do some processing on the line
    while (line!=null);So what processing to do inside the if statement?
    Well, you can recognize the DataX lines easily enough - just do something like a line.startsWith("Data") and check that the last char is a digit... you can even ignore the digit if you know the sections come in a certain order (simplifying assumptions can simplify the code).
    Once you figure out which section you're in, you can parse the succeeding lines appropriately. You might instantiate a StringTokenizer, i.e. StringTokenizer strtok = new StringTokenizer(line, ";, "); and then read out the tokens into some Collection, based on the section #. E.g.
    strtok = new StringTokenizer(line, ";, ");
    if (sectionNo==0)
      //read the tokens into the Labels1 collection
    else if (sectionNo==1)
      //read the tokens into the Labels2 collection
    else //sectionNo must be 2
      //create a new line in your table model and populate it with the token values...
    }I don't think the delimiters are necessary if you are using end-of-line's as delimiters (which is implicit in the fact that you are reading the text out line-by-line). So the original file format you listed looks fine (except you might want to get rid of that rogue semicolon).
    Good luck.

  • Report Designer odbc connection string for data source using a parameter

    I am using stand alone report designer 3 for the present and have a question/problem regarding the odbc connection string for MySQL when setting up the data-source
    I need to be able to enter a parameter which is the database name i.e. BOE-201401 or say BOE-201312 etc  from a list of databases the user can choose from.
    at present the odbc connection string points to BOE-201402
    the connection string is at present  Dsn=Development Server for MYsql;description=MYSQL;server=ldndw01;database=BOE-201402;port=3306
    my parameter has the name BOE_DATABASE
    and in an expression it is  as such
    =Parameters!BOE_DATABASE.Value
    I want to point the datasource for the report to the parameter value before the user sees the report.

    Hi Leslie,
    Based on your description, we want to design a report with a dynamic DataSource connection string. There are the basic steps below for your reference:
    Create report with static database.
    Change data source to report parameter.
    Send new database connection string as a report parameter.
    More detail information, please refer to the following blog: Dynamic Database in SSRS 2008.

  • Using variable in connection string returns 0 for variable.

    hi all- I am pulling data from a visual forxpro database and the connection string is as follows:
    Data Source=\\ServerName\FolderName\AR;User ID=Domain\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;
    I created a variable called CurrentARPath and stored the path
    \\ServerName\FolderName\AR
    I then tried using this variable in the Expression property of the connection string as follows:
    "Data Source="+(DT_WSTR, 20)@[User::CurrentARPath] + ";User ID=Domain\\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;"
    However, the above expression is evaluating the variable to 0 as shown below; this is causing the connection in connection manager to go down(offline) and the OLED data source is complaining.
    Data Source=0;User ID=Domain\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;
    any idea what i am doing wrong here? thanks in advance!

    What datatype is CurrentARPath? Are there any
    configurations on the connection string or variable?
    Which
    package protection level are you using?
    CurrentARPath data type - Char
    there are no configurations on the connection string. one thing that i should mention is that i have created a variable  called ArPath of type object and using it in the for each loop container. this variable gets populated using an execute SQL statement.
    i am then mapping the vale from ArPath to CurrentARPath in the loop container.
    Package protection level is default(encrypt sensitive)
    thanks for the help.

  • Opening a new form using a different connect string

    Hi All
    I have the following requirement. I want to open an new form (when button pressed) using a different connect string. I am planning to use open form so that the new form has its own session. But I donot want the new form to connect to the same database. How do I pass the database that I want to connect using open form.
    Rgds
    Arvind Balaraman

    The only way to change the connection is to execute the built-in LOGIN and connect to the desired database. You cannot pass this through the OPEN_FORM built-in.
    Example:
    LOGOUT;
    LOGON(uname, upass || '@' || conn_str);
    However, be aware that this will impact the first form too. This is expected behavior.
    See Oracle Bug 5004661 or the Forms Online Help for more details.

  • How to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis.

    Hello,
    Can anyone let me know on how to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi vinay9738,
    According to your description, you want to connect multiple database from multiple servers using dynamic connection.
    If in this case, we can create a Table in our local database (whatever DB we want) and load all the connection strings.  We can use Execute SQL Task to query all the connection strings and store the result-set in a variable of object type in SSIS package.
    Then use ForEach Loop container to shred the content of the object variable and iterate through each of the connection strings. And then Place an Execute SQL task inside ForEach Loop container with the SQL statements we have to run in all the DB instances.
    For more details, please refer to the following blog:
    http://sql-developers.blogspot.kr/2010/07/dynamic-database-connection-using-ssis.html
