Using variable in connection string returns 0 for variable.

hi all- I am pulling data from a visual forxpro database and the connection string is as follows:
Data Source=\\ServerName\FolderName\AR;User ID=Domain\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;
I created a variable called CurrentARPath and stored the path
\\ServerName\FolderName\AR
I then tried using this variable in the Expression property of the connection string as follows:
"Data Source="+(DT_WSTR, 20)@[User::CurrentARPath] + ";User ID=Domain\\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;"
However, the above expression is evaluating the variable to 0 as shown below; this is causing the connection in connection manager to go down(offline) and the OLED data source is complaining.
Data Source=0;User ID=Domain\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;
any idea what i am doing wrong here? thanks in advance!

What datatype is CurrentARPath? Are there any
configurations on the connection string or variable?
Which
package protection level are you using?
CurrentARPath data type - Char
there are no configurations on the connection string. one thing that i should mention is that i have created a variable  called ArPath of type object and using it in the for each loop container. this variable gets populated using an execute SQL statement.
i am then mapping the vale from ArPath to CurrentARPath in the loop container.
Package protection level is default(encrypt sensitive)
thanks for the help.

  • Opening a new form using a different connect string

    Hi All
    I have the following requirement. I want to open an new form (when button pressed) using a different connect string. I am planning to use open form so that the new form has its own session. But I donot want the new form to connect to the same database. How do I pass the database that I want to connect using open form.
    Rgds
    Arvind Balaraman

    The only way to change the connection is to execute the built-in LOGIN and connect to the desired database. You cannot pass this through the OPEN_FORM built-in.
    Example:
    LOGOUT;
    LOGON(uname, upass || '@' || conn_str);
    However, be aware that this will impact the first form too. This is expected behavior.
    See Oracle Bug 5004661 or the Forms Online Help for more details.

    Hi,
    in case you haven't done this already: for this problem we'd really need you to open a CSS message.
    From your problem description it sounds likely that LCA routines and liveCache user don't fit together. Please check the solution of note 811207 to see if that assumption is correct.
    Furthermore: liveCache 7.5 and SCM 4.0 are not released together (yet). When using SCM 4.0 only liveCache versions 7.4.03 Build XX are released. This it seems you're current combination is not supported!
    Please take a look at PAM (Produkt Availability Matrix) on the SAP Service Marketplace to see which combinations have been released.
    Kind regards,

  • How to build a connection string if "Only variable names (i.e.: $variable) may be used as the target of an assignment statement."

    im looping through databases on a server & building  a connection string to each database.
    $SQLConn.ConnectionString = "Server=$SrvName; Database=$DBName; User ID =DBLogin; Password=myPassword;"
    The problem is i get this error:
    Only variable names (i.e.: $variable) may be used as the target of an assignment statement
    I can put the code into an Inlinescript, but then I lose the ability to perform paralellism. Is there any way to construct the connection string in PS Workflow without using an Inlinescript?

    Hi Winston,
    Why not just wrap the InlineScript blocks in a Parallel block, to cause them to execute in parallel?
    For example:
    workflow foo {
    parallel {
    inlinescript {
    start-sleep -Seconds (Get-Random -Minimum 1 -maximum 5)
    "a"
    inlinescript {
    start-sleep -Seconds (Get-Random -Minimum 1 -maximum 5)
    "b"
    Sometimes outputs "a b" and sometimes outputs "b a"

  • Setting substitution variable to connection string (not ODBC name)

    Hi,
    I havce a question regarding the use of a sub variable in SQL data loads as the data source. I find this works great when the variable is set to an existing ODBC. What I would really like to do is skip the ODBC creation step and have the substitution variable be the actual connection string, such as "Driver={SQL Native Client};Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase; Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword;"
    Can anyone confirm or deny whether this functionality exists? As usual, the documentation is vague on the subject and doesn't exclude the possibility, but doesn't include it, either.
    Thanks!

    My first thought is that no, you can't do that. Even if you could, I'm not sure if you'd want to do that. The easiest way to find out is simply to try. But more than likely I think you should just have "hard-coded" values for the source/target server. If you are trying to stay with the same load rule for dev/test/prod servers, you might just be better off coming up with a naming scheme that let's you keep them all separate.

  • Definiing variables in connection string

    Hi,
    I have a web application which connects to database (using DataSource thru JNDI lookup) through Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver. The application server is JBoss. Now in the connection string i also want to put a variable "hostname" with its value being the login id of the current user of the web application. How can I do that? I then would acces the connection string to get the current login id from the "hostname" variable. I know there are other ways to save the login id (like in HttpSession) but in my case I have to make it a part of the connection string.
    Thanks

    This one was my fault. The connection string was not the issue. It was the SQL command I was sending. The terminating semicolon had to be removed.

  • Adworker using wrong JDBC connect string during upgrade to 12.1.3

    Our env
    APPS - 12.1.2 - running on SLES 11
    DB 11.2.0.3 - running on IMB System z
    We cloned PROD to a new host (instance was previously on DB host - debsdb01 and app host debsap03)
    The clone was made to debsdb04 - and app was reconfigured on debsap03
    I got the app to start up and run before taking it down to apply the 12.1.3 patch.
    However, in the process of the 12.1.3 patch, I see the following entry in the ADworker log files.
    JDBC connect string from AD_APPS_JDBC_URL is
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=YES)(FAILOVER=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=hostname1.companyname.com)(PORT=1549)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=DEV3)))
    where as it should be
    JDBC connect string from AD_APPS_JDBC_URL is
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=YES)(FAILOVER=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=hostname4.companyname.com)(PORT=1535)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=DEV3)))
    If I do an echo $AD_APPS_JDBC_URL on debspap03, it returns
    JDBC connect string from AD_APPS_JDBC_URL is
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=YES)(FAILOVER=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=hostname4.companyname.com)(PORT=1535)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=DEV3)))
    Where are the ADWORKERS getting the old value of the DB host name?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    I believe figured out what the issue was.
    I was (am) running the patch session from a VNC session that was established during the previous version of this instance - so the previous connect string was being used.
    Once I killed the old VNC session and established a new one, I was able to retrieve the correct value for $AD_APPS_JDBC_URL from the command prompt.
    Yes - the value of the $AD_APPS_JDBC_URL was showing the old value in the old VNC session.
    Thanks for all of your input esp on a Saturday - when I thought I would have to wait until Monday to get this figured out.

  • Setting up connection using a single connection string.

    Post Author: DubbleOh7
    CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    I know about the ConnectionInfo object in for .NET crystal reports, but for security purposes we don't have access to a password of any kind, nor do we pass them around our web pages, they are used for login access only. So how can I just set a connection string for the report to access a SQL Server database? I prefer NOT to do the Dataset work around. Its a busy server and the report could contain up to 20,000 records with lots of fields. Not efficient. I also know I could make an object fill it with data from a data reader, but not sure thats as efficient as just having the report execute the stored procedure I have. I also don't want the report to pop up that login page automatically for the users since they have already logged into the website. I'm looking forward to any ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions you may have!
    Summary:
    I don't want to use datasets due to inefficiency and overhead of several thousand records.
    I just want to be able to use a connection string using windows authentication enabled for the report connection to a SQL Server database.
    This is for SQL 2K5..calling a stored procedure
    Crystal reports for ASP.NET (VB language solutions preferred)
    Basically I'd like to use a trusted connection and
    ReportConnection.ServerName = "SERVER"
    ReportConnection.DatabaseName = "DATABASE"
    ReportConnection.IntegratedSecurity = True
    doesn't get me there.

  • Using session variable in init. string of session variable init. block

    hi, experts,
    is it allowed to use a loaded session variable (A) in the initialization string in the initialization block of another session variable (B).
    for example,
    in the execution precedence of initialization block of B, added the initialization block of A
    then in the initialization string in the initialization block of B,
    the sql likes:
    select yyy from a where a.xxx = 'valueof(nq_session.A)'
    what is the correct syntax?
    thank you very mucH!

    That's the correct format. If it is not working for you then you need to give more information as what's happening, how you populate your Init Blocks etc.

  • Can I use simultaneous lightning connection and bluetooth for sound?

    i bought a brooks mini beamer and a bluettot speaker. The speaker can also be connected using a jack. Why do this if there is bluetooth available.
    Unfortunately my Iphone will only direct the sound to either the lightning connector (to the beamer) or to bluetooth speaker (and disconnects even the video send to the beamer).
    any solutions?
    I can plug the jack in the beamer as a plan B though.

    Whether the device supports bluetooth or not has nothing to do with plugging an audio cable in and sending audio to it.
    The iPhone will direct audio where the user instructs it to do so.
    Swipe up from the bottom to bring up Control Panel.
    Select the output option and direct audio where you desire.
    For what silly reason would anyone connect a bluetooth audio transmitter to an iPhone?  They have bluetooth built in.

  • Dynamically Setting a Variable from a Connection String that has been set by a Config File

    Hi Guys
    I'm setting up a Master / Slave (Parent / Child) dtsx environment but I'm unable to work out how to dynamically set a variable in the Master dtsx from a connection string that has had its value set by a config file. I'm sure it's possible.
    Below is the what I'm hoping to achieve. I've set up everything apart from the highlighted section.
    Any ideas?

    First, what version of SQL Server are you using?
    You could switch the problem around.  You could set the value of a variable from the config file, then it is easy to use that variable as the connection string source for your connection manager.  At the same time you can use a parent variable
    configuration to map that variable to variables in your child package.

    Some additional info would probably be helpful.
    What is your programming enviironment? Java?
    In any case I suspect that you will need to use the OCI to deal with specific Oracle types such as user defined object types -- thats not standard ANSI SQL.
    In Java I believe you need to use OPAQUE, there are some examples out there. I'm mostly a PL/SQL developer with some Java expereince so others here are more qualifed to answer your question more directly.

  • How to use one variable as a default value for another variable?

    Hi Experts,
    Is it possible to use one variable as a default value for another variable?
    For example:
    Variable 1 = current calendar year month
    Variable 2 = mandatory input ready variable for calendar year month
    I want to use variable 1 as default value for variable 2, but also have the ability to change the month if required.
    Thanks!
    Kathryn

    u can use replacement path variable
    in that case u can replace the values of 1 variable with the another variable...
    but  u cannot do this setting
    u cannot make variable 2 as mandatory
    u cannot enter value for variable 2
    because by default it will take the value of variable 1
    u have to make follow settings
    variable 2
    name , technical name
    processing by = replacement path
    infoobject = ocalmonth
    next tab
    replaced by another variable
    variable name
    offset start , offset lenght
    save and hit okey

  • Geting a variable from a String

    Hi, i need to get a variable from a string. For example:
    int test1;
    int test2;
    int test3;
    int test = getvariablefromstring("test"+3);
    ..................

    Reflection will work for member variables, not locals. It'sprobably not the right solution for you though.
    If you just want test1, test2, test3, ... testN, then you want an array or a List.
