Using Text_IO in Oracle Reports 6.0

Hi.
I ask again, perhaps someone can help me:
I want to add a function to a column to write every row to a file (such as a .log-file).
In Example i can simply write into a file like this:
"Trigger - after parameter form":
file_out Text_IO.File_type;
BEGIN
file_out:= Text_IO.Fopen('log.txt', 'w');
Text_IO.put (file_out,'test');
Text_IO.Fclose(file_out);
END;
But i want to write to this file from the function, placed in a column.
So i cant open this file at every row (open, write, close)...
Perhaps someone can tell me, how i can do this: To open a File before Report, write into the File from the function and close the file after the report.
Thank you again.

Hello,
You need to create a client-side PL/SQL package as Program Units for your report. In this package you can define a package variable to hold and share your file handle, and create functions to open, write, and close the file. You can call these functions from the Before Report, Formula, and After Report triggers in your report.

  • Text_IO in Oracle Reports 6.0 ?

    Hi all !
    I've build a Report with Report Builder 6.0.
    Now i want to write every row i get, in a file.
    So i want to use Text_IO. The Question is, how can i use a global (User) Variable with type "Text_IO.File_Type". I can only create a user variable with type "char, date, number".
    At the begin of Report i want to use the trigger "After parameter form" to open the file.
    Then i want to use a function where every row will be written to the file.
    At the end i want to close the file in trigger "after report"
    Perhaps someone can help me ?
    (Hope i had explained it easy, my english is not the best).
    Thank you.

    hello,
    you will have to create a package specifications that has the definition of this variable in it.
    you can than access the var using <packagename>.<varname> (e.g. myGlobals.myFile) from all PLSQL within your report (e.g. the after parameterform trigger).

  • Using CLOBs in oracle Report Builder

    I want to select all the data in a CLOB column using SQL Navigator by just doing
    select entry_note
    from chartentries;
    just as you say in your example by it just gives me back a result of (ORACLOB).
    If I do
    select to_char(entry_note)
    from chartentries;
    I get this error.
    If I do
    select dbms_lob.substr(entry_note,4000,1)
    from chartentries
    I get this (there’s more up to 32000 characters in a clob) and these weird squares which I think are CR (carriage returns) or LF (line feeds). I don’t want to see those characters and I would like to retrieve the entire CLOB in one swoop without doing data manipulations of substringing.
    Using the same data in Oracle Report Builder, I want to select all the data in a CLOB column into a field in a Paper report layout but I keep getting errors, ora-6502, and I've found out that I am restricted to 4000 characters and in Report 9i it looks like the largest field you can have is 4000 characters. My CLOB information can be up to 32000 characters long or longer and I do not want to substring out 4000 characters at a time into separate fields. In Crystal reports there is no problem just selecting the clob in a simple query and it is there in one shot. I would have thought by now that Oracle would have changed its development tools to be able to handle Clobs simply without any manipulation. Does anyone know how to do this in Report builder? I just have a simple query:
    select entry_datetime,
    to_char(replace((entry_note),chr(13))) as entry_note
    from chartentries
    where patient_id = 49741
    Another thing I want to do, is call this Oracle report from a PL/SQL block passing several parameters to the report and also call a Crystal report from a PL/SQL block passing several parameters to the report. Does anyone know what the commands are?

    What I had to do is create a query using query builder. This works fine; it's when trying to add the column to an existing query is where the data inconstancy error occurs. One thing you have to keep in mind is it will only work using the query builder in conjunction with the report wizard; I am not sure why. To incorporate the comments into an existing frame you will have to cut the frame created by the wizards and copy it into the existing frame. Otherwise the column name will not show in the source list of the property Inspector.

  • Using JNI in Oracle Reports

    Hi.
    I have some difficulties understanding the Oracle Reports mechanism of JNI. The problem I have is the report job is crashed when I use the imported java class.
    I am using Oracle Reports 11.1.2.1 on Oracle Linux
    The scenario of generating report is :
    1. For every page there is a call to imported java class which generates an image (jpg format) as a file
    2. This image file is then appended to the image placeholder in report
    The error stack form engine log is :

    The problem does not occur when I run small report. That is why I suspected I should increase the max heap size. I increased it from defaulted 256M to 2G but the large report still fails to finish. Though the number of pages generated is bigger than with default java heap size. After that I ran the java monitoring tool on application server. As per monitor the heap size is increasing but never reaches max size of 2G. Then I tried to append the same image file to every page (meaning I only called java class once in afterparameterform trigger). In this case the report also finishes successfully.
    So as it seems the the problem is somewhere inside of the report engine mechanism calling java class. I suspect this mechanism is not releasing the memory. Btw the pdf file generated for large report is about 150MB large.
    I would appreciate some insight on reports engine mechanism or the way I would be able to pinpoint the actual cause of the problem.
    Best regards,
    Gregor

  • Programmatically change the query used to generate Oracle Reports

    I have two queries. Depending on some parameter value, I would like to use one of these queries to generate my report. Is it possible to programmatically change the SQL query used to generate the Oracle Report.
    Thanks

    There are two options:
    - The easy way
    In the report paper layout create two frames, one for each query , and at runtime
    display only one based on your parameters. (using format triggers on the frames)
    - the not so easy way (but more elegant)
    create the query at runtime using xml customizations using the examples from
    the following documentation:

  • Can we use oracle reports with php

    hello
    any body know about that oracle reports can use in php or not if not any reason if can use any example oracle report and php ill very thankful to all for this help bye
    from farooq

    It depends on what you mean by 'use oracle reports within php'. If you generate reports as urls (don't know if oracle reports supports this but I think it does), you can just link to them or catch them in an iframe.
    If you are talking about generating a report from inside a php script, you can use a system() call to execute oracle reports tools such as 'rwrun'. If you do this, make sure your php server has proper oracle environment variables (such as ORACLE_HOME)

  • Chinese Character in PDF format for Oracle Reports 11g

    Hello Everyone,
    Currently we have a Report that need to be display chinese character in PDF format.
    We followed the steps specified in the "Oralce Fusion Middleware Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services"
    documentation but things doesn't work. We also installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Asian Font Pack 9 on the server side
    and even on the client/user/development side and followed the steps in the documentation, but no effect at all. Or we even
    tried "Arial Unicode MS", same thing no effect.
    For sure, we may miss something during PDF aliasing or PDF subsetting setup.
    Anyone out there who has the same experience and able to resolve the issue that currently using the Oralce Fusion Middleware Reports 11g?
    Doesn't matter if it does not related to chinese character, as long as it relates to this issue like japanese or arabic characters in PDF.
    If its ok, kindly provide the steps how you do it.
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Regards and Thank you very much!

    I am now facing exactly the same problem as user449955 (Eric's). Dear Eric, how about your situation? If you have resolved this problem, may I ask for your solution?
    In my case, using either font aliasing or font subsetting doesn't work at all (displaying "garbage" characters instead of Chinese characters). The setting in my uifont.ali is as follows:
    If using font aliasing:
    [PDF]
    .....ZHT16HKSCS = "MSungStd-Light-Acro"
    If using font subsetting (the REPORTS_PATH already includes "C:\Windows\Fonts"):
    [PDF:Subset]
    "Courier New" = "mingliu.ttc,2"
    For both cases, the report server's NLS_LANG already set to "TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.ZHT16HKSCS" (I am in fact located at Hong Kong). For font aliasing, the client side already has Asian Adobe Reader with Asian font pack installed.
    By the way, I noticed that the WebLogic EM is configuring/updating the uifont.ali file at "<instance home>\config\FRComponent\frcommon\tools\common" directory, but the Oracle Reports 11g's documentation sometimes advise to refer to another uifont.ali file located at "<instance home>\config\FRComponent\frcommon\guicommon\tk\admin" directory. Which one of the uifont.ali files is the one used by the Oracle Reporting Service?
    My report server's platform is Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit) and the Reports version is 11.1.1.3.
    Anyone can help to advise?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards

    in our company we are developing jsf applications and we want to use our existing Oracle reports. Reports are deployed in Oracle Application Server 10G. Is there a way to call those reports from our jsf applications deployed in websphere application server.

    Calling reports is just constructing and submitting a URL. So constuct the url in your jsf app or create static hyperlinks in your jsf app to go to the needed url. The url should look something like:
    http ://hostname:7777/reports/rwservlet?report=myrep.jsp&userid=scott/tiger@dev10g&desformat=html&destype=cache
