Using Threads to schedule tasks

Hi There
Does anyone know how to use threads to schedule tasks say a function to be called every 30 mins or another fn to be called every 12 hours
Code snippets will be helpful
Thanks
Mum

Make a Timer which get's up periodically the threads (every time they need to perform the task). When the threads gets up it performs it's task and the came back to sleep, remaining in this state until the timer wakes up it again.

  • Using Automator for scheduled tasks for my media folder.

    Anyone with automator experience that are able to help me set up a scheduled task for my media folder, using for example iCal?
    I have 2 programs for cleaning and adding metadata for my media folder:
    iFlicks and iDentify.
    And I want them to scheduled clean new files in my folder. iFlicks first, and iDentify next.
    Complicated? Doable?

    If you are not too keen on running those commands you might want to try http://www.igetter.net/iGetter.html This download manager seems to allow the scheduled downloading that you need. I think you would have to go to the Apple site and find the url for the standalone updaters to find the link after Software Update identifies them. Then use this program to schedule the downloads. Sometimes those seem more stable anyway.
    The program us shareware. It appears from the description that the program remains fully functional but puts up a nag screen if the program has not been registered.

  • How to make Robocopy run in the foreground using Scheduled Tasks

    I am doing a daily backup using Robocopy and Scheduled Tasks running Windows 2012 Server. When it runs, robocopy runs in the background and does not write to log that I am pointing to. How can I make it run in the foreground? Also, is there anyway to write to log only those records that have been copied or purged? what are the best practices for robocopy use?

  • Scheduled Tasks - HTTP 500

    I have an application that has been running fine since 2007. I fire 7 scheduled tasks every morning that send emails with status updates. I upgraded to CF9 earlier this year without incident and everything has been fine. All of the sudden, the tasks are not firing as of 11/4. I can run the cfm file from the browser, but the logs show an HTTP 500 error. Nothing has changed on the server or the files. I have verified the file rights and they are as they have always been. when I try to manually run the tasks from the admin, it gives me 7 reasons why it might have failed. I did some searching and could not find any real answers. Anyone else have this issue?

    Based on my research, Standalone Managed Service Account can only be used to run services, but not to be used to run scheduled tasks on Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Using threads in a process of two or more tasks concurrently?

    Dear,
    I need to develop through a Java application in a process that allows the same process using Threads on two or more tasks can be executed concurrently. The goal is to optimize the runtime of a program.
    Then, through a program, display the behavior of a producer and two consumers at runtime!
    Below is the code and problem description.
    Could anyone help me on this issue?
    Sincerely,
    Sérgio Pitta
    The producer-consumer problem
    Known as the problem of limited buffer. The two processes share a common buffer of fixed size. One, the producer puts information into the buffer and the other the consumer to pull off.
    The problem arises when the producer wants to put a new item in the buffer, but it is already full. The solution is to put the producer to sleep and wake it up only when the consumer to remove one or more items. Likewise, if the consumer wants to remove an item from the buffer and realize that it is empty, he will sleep until the producer put something in the buffer and awake.
    To keep track of the number of items in the buffer, we need a variable, "count". If the maximum number of items that may contain the buffer is N, the producer code first checks whether the value of the variable "count" is N. If the producer sleep, otherwise, the producer adds an item and increment the variable "count".
    The consumer code is similar: first checks if the value of the variable "count" is 0. If so, go to sleep if not zero, removes an item and decreases the counter by one. Each case also tests whether the other should be agreed and, if so, awakens. The code for both producer and consumer, is shown in the code below:
    #define N 100                     / * number of posts in the buffer * /
    int count = 0,                     / * number of items in buffer * /
    void producer(void)
    int item;
    while (TRUE) {                    / * number of items in buffer * /
    produce_item item = ()           / * generates the next item * /
    if (count == N) sleep ()           / * if the buffer is full, go to sleep * /
    insert_item (item)                / * put an item in the buffer * /
    count = count + 1                / * increment the count of items in buffer * /
    if (count == 1) wakeup (consumer);      / * buffer empty? * /
    void consumer(void)
    int item;
    while (TRUE) {                    / * repeat forever * /
    if (count == 0) sleep ()           / * if the buffer is full, go to sleep * /
    remove_item item = ()           / * generates the next item * /
    count = count - 1                / * decrement a counter of items in buffer * /
    if (count == N - 1) wakeup (producer)      / * buffer empty? * /
    consume_item (item)      / * print the item * /
    To express system calls such as sleep and wakeup in C, they are shown how to call library routines. They are not part of standard C library, but presumably would be available on any system that actually have those system calls. Procedures "insert_item and remove_item" which are not shown, they register themselves on the insertion and removal of the item buffer.
    Now back to the race condition. It can occur because the variable "count" unfettered access. Could the following scenario occurs: the buffer is empty and the consumer just read the variable "count" to check if its value is 0. In that instant, the scheduler decides to stop running temporarily and the consumer starting to run the producer. The producer inserts an item in the buffer, increment the variable "count" and realizes that its value is now 1. Inferring the value of "count" was 0 and that the consumer should go to bed, the producer calls "wakeup" to wake up the consumer.
    Unfortunately, the consumer is not logically asleep, so the signal is lost to agree. The next time the consumer to run, test the value of "count" previously read by him, shall verify that the value is 0, and sleep. Sooner or later the producer fills the whole buffer and also sleep. Both sleep forever.
    The essence of the problem is that you lose sending a signal to wake up a process that (still) not sleeping. If he were not lost, everything would work. A quick solution is to modify the rules, adding context to a "bit of waiting for the signal to wake up (wakeup waiting bit)." When a signal is sent to wake up a process that is still awake, this bit is turned on. Then, when the process trying to sleep, if the bit waiting for the signal to wake up is on, it will shut down, but the process will remain awake. The bit waiting for the signal to wake up is actually a piggy bank that holds signs of waking.
    Even the bit waiting for the signal to wake the nation have saved in this simple example, it is easy to think of cases with three or more cases in which a bit of waiting for the signal to wake up is insufficient. We could do another improvisation and add a second bit of waiting for the signal to wake up or maybe eight or 32 of them, but in principle, the problem still exists.

    Hi!
    Thanks for the feedback!
    I need a program to provide through an interface with the user behavior of a producer and two consumers at runtime, using Threads!So hire somebody to write one.
    Or, if what you really mean is that you need to write such a program, as part of your course work, then write one.
    You can't just dump your requirements here and expect someone to do your work for you though. If this is your assignment, then you need to do it. If you get stuck, ask a specific question about the part that's giving you trouble. "How do I write a producer/consumer program?" is not a valid question.

  • Contiunous running programs: Thread.sleep vs. Scheduled Tasks

    Hello,
    I have simulation programs that should run continuously for weeks at a time. I am seeking any advice or comments on the best way to do something like this.
    Some programs run every 30 seconds; others run once per hour; others run once per day. These programs involve simulating the use of a popular website by reading web pages and inserting records into Oracle 9i databases.
    As far as the "every 30 seconds" program, I use Thread.sleep to pause the program for each interval. Is this a good method?
    What about programs running once per hour or per day? I have used the Windows XP Scheduled Task program to execute the program. Is this a good method?
    Does anybody know of a better way to do such things?
    Any comments or helpful links are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Logan

    I have simulation programs that should run
    continuously for weeks at a time. I am seeking any
    advice or comments on the best way to do something
    like this.If you have a simulator, does it have to simulate time on a one to one basis. Could it not simulate 30 seconds, every 3 seconds and thus not need to run for the full week. If you have to run in real time, what are you simulating.
    Some programs run every 30 seconds; others run once
    per hour; others run once per day. These programs
    involve simulating the use of a popular website by
    reading web pages and inserting records into Oracle
    9i databases.
    As far as the "every 30 seconds" program, I use
    Thread.sleep to pause the program for each interval.
    Is this a good method?No. Sleep for 30 seconds just means there is atleast 30 seconds delay from the end of the last task to the start of the next task. This could means every 30.1 seconds or even every 33 seconds depending on how long the task takes to run.
    If you create a single ScheduledExecutorService you can run a task with any period you suggest with a dynamic number of threads.
    e.g.
    Execuotrs.newScheduledThreadPool(1);
    >
    What about programs running once per hour or per day?See previous.
    I have used the Windows XP Scheduled Task program to
    execute the program. Is this a good method?If it is a couple of times per day or per week this is a good choice.

    I am trying to create an UDF from a schedule task by directly inserting into table.This is altering DB schema, not inserting into a table, that are you trying to do. DDL operations are not supported in PrepareStatementUtil. Moreover, I'm almost sure the DDL operations are not allowed for operational db connection.
    Use OIM API (ConfigManager) if you want to manipulate UDF.

  • Variable text is blank in emails when using Scheduled Task to email event log notifications

    I am trying to use powershell to email notification when a user account gets locked.  I am running the script from a server 2008 domain controller.
    I have tried multiple scripts and I have the same issue every time.  The script works fine when I run it directly from the powershell command line window.
    However whenever I try running the exact same scripts from an event-triggered scheduled task, the script runs, however any content that generated from a variable is not added to the email.  It is just left blank and ignored.
    I have tried adding lots of permissions including domain administrator group membership to the account  runs the task from and it doesn't include all the expected text unless I run it from the built-in domain administrator account.
    The task runs and the email is sent, but the email is missing all the content generated by variables.
    How can this be fixed?
    Here is an example script.

    By variable text I mean everything that it generates by using a variable such as the user's name ($LockedAccount)
    and everything else such as $AccountLockOutEventTime and everything else that is generated from
    a variable.
    Nothing like that appears in the email only hard coded text.
    I am not running it remotely.  I am logged directly onto the domain controller and I tried giving
    the account that is used to run the task more and more permissions including domain administrator group membership with the same result.
    When I run the exact same script on the same domain controller locally via the powershell CLI all of the info appears.
    This is the info when the email is generated by running the script directly from the powershell CLI:

  • How to automate the data load process using data load file & task Scheduler

    Hi,
    I am doing Automated Process to load the data in Hyperion Planning application with the help of data_Load.bat file & Task Scheduler.
    I have created Data_Load.bat file but rest of the process i am unable complete.
    So could you help me , how to automate the data load process using Data_load.bat file & task Scheduler or what are the rest of the file is require to achieve this.
    Thanks

    To follow up on your question are you using the maxl scripts for the dataload?
    If so I have seen and issue within the batch (ex: load_data.bat) that if you do not have the full maxl script path with a batch when running it through event task scheduler the task will work but the log and/ or error file will not be created. Meaning the batch claims it ran from the task scheduler although it didn't do what you needed it to.
    If you are using maxl use this as the batch
    "essmsh C:\data\DataLoad.mxl" Or you can also use the full path for the maxl either way works. The only reason I would think that the maxl may then not work is if you do not have the batch updated to call on all the maxl PATH changes or if you need to update your environment variables to correct the essmsh command to work in a command prompt.

  • Query in schedule task adapter using FilestreamProvider

    Hi,
    Requirement: I need to use a dynamic file send port which appends the file every 2 hours after which is picked up by an ftp adapter on a daily basis on a fixed time.For
    the above, I am using a scheduled task adapter to pick the from folder path(  send port path) and via FTP adapter send to the destination.
    Flowchart:
    Direct Binding in Orchestration->Map-> Dynaminc File Send port-> File should be appended every two hour(for eg: suppose the file has to be picked up every day at 1pm,3pm: Until 1pm, all the files appended in the folder should be picked and
    sent to the destination via schedule task adapter then the message should be deleted from the folder path then in between 1pm to 3pm how many every files come in should be appended aI have created a schedule task adapter using FileStreamProvider which should
    pick files from a folder path in the interval of 5mins. The file gets appended every 2 hours and is  sent to the destination. The adapter works fine but the file in the folder does not disappears after the schedule is over every 2 hours. Please provide
    a resolution. nd send to the destination via ftp adapter and the file should be deleted from the folder path)->Picked up by schedule task adapter every 1 hour-> sent to the destination via FTP send port.
    Problem:
    I have created a schedule task adapter using FileStreamProvider which should pick files from a folder path in the interval of 2 hours. The file gets appended every 2 hours and is  sent to the destination. The adapter sends the files at scheduled timee
    but the file in the folder(i.e where the file sits after being processed by dynamic send port) does not disappears after the schedule is over every 2 hours and the content of the file is also not visible. Any kind of help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ranjana

The error which we get in communication channel monitoring is that "String too long", on googling i found that in oracle they solve such problem by making the field data type as CLOB.

    if the field contains very large data then yes, defining the target field in Oracle as a CLOB will solve your issue.
