Using Views in BISQLGROUPProvider

Hi,
As we know Oracle is providing BISQLGroupProvider to retrive Group from Database Table.
Which I have implemented successfully.
But in another case rather than table, I want to use view. Has anybody used view for BISQLGroupProvider.
I am not sure whether it will work or not.
If anybody has tried with view let me know ur opinion.
I tried but It did not happen.
Now I am using view, just keep table in xml.

it should be the same syntax for tables and for views...

Sorry, but this has not been answered to my liking. The "List View Web Part" has the ability for the user to select the view from within the web part, so there you should be able to select a different view and have it appear within the same web part.
Does anyone know how to complete this task?

Getting error while importing metadata using View Objects

Hi All,
I am trying to create a repository using View Object in OBIEE 11.1.5.1 but getting error while viewing the data, after importing the metadata in the repository "[nQSError: 77031] Error occurs while calling remote service ADFService11G. Details: Runtime error for service -- ADFService11G - oracle/apps/fnd/applcore/common/ApplSession".
I am also getting error "žADFException-2015: The BI Server is incompatible with the BI-ADF Broker Servlet: BI Server protocol version = null, BI-ADF Broker Servlet protocol version = 1" during testing my sample which is deployed to Admin server. I followed BI Adminstrator help file guide in order to create the sample for creating repository using view object.

I am able to import metadata using view object but getting above error("[nQSError: 77031] Error occurs while calling remote service ADFService11G. Details: Runtime error for service -- ADFService11G - oracle/apps/fnd/applcore/common/ApplSession".") while validating the data.
It fails at step 5 of "To import metadata from an ADF Business Component data source:" section of above URL.

Click on the words "Album by Artist/Year," one click at a time, and it will cycle through the possible options.
One of them is juts plain "Album."

Using VIEW inside a stored procedure

So I have a View designed in one file that validates someone who is authorized.
Then I have a stored procedure to display authorized stationeries created before a given date. Its takes a parameter @CreatedOn.
How can I use VIEW in my stored procedure so I can display all the authorized which are set 1 before a given date?
My VIEW:

Try something like below, You need to replace CreatedDate column with appropriate date column in your table.
1. Alter the view to get the required date:
ALTER VIEW vw_AuthorizedStationeries AS
SELECT Authorized, CreatedDate
FROM dbo.Stationeries
WHERE Authorized = 1
2. Alter SP:
CREATE PROCEDURE usp_stationeries (@CreatedOn datetime)
AS
BEGIN

You can pull required information directly from your table:

I would like to know what are the effect to the BOXI3.0 or SQL performance if:
1. We are using view or query in creating the universe?
2. Is it the correct way of creating the universe only from tables?
3. If need to do combination between tables and views?

Hi Alias,
Designer has the capability to import tables and views you cna use in the design of the universe. Furthermore, you can also create a derived table in the universe - in simple terms it is much like a view, but the code is in the universe availble to the universe designer.
With all this available to you, it is pretty much up to you how you want to tackle the design. I would say first prise is using the physical tables in the databse, then move to using a view and if there are certain restrictions on the designer, use the derived tables.
Remeber this, at the end of the day, any SQL code generated or used is passed down to the database to be processed, may it be the query from the universe directly on the tables or by means of the views or derived tables - the database server will need to crunch through it all - and this is what will determine your performance.

Hi Kalyani,
We normally go for View or infoset when the data to be fetched in BW is distributed in different tables in SAP R/3.
Had the data been available in one table we can easily build our datasource on that table but if there are more tables then its not possible to do it without Views or Infosets. You can use Function Modules to build your datasource in case it involves complex logic to figure out the data from various tables.
Depending upon the table relationships we create view and include various fields from these tables in that view. Same is with the Infosets, you can have more flexible options like Outer Join, left outer Join etc.

Is it possible to Use Views in place of Queries?

Lets say that 10 broadcasted reports all could use the same query but each in a different navigational state.
1. Can you navigate the query and save as a view and then set up a brodacast rule for that view?
2. Can a DataProvider in a web template be a view?
3. Can the BI Launcher iView take a view name in place of a query?

Undo Changes in child table (using view link)

My environment : Jdev 11.1.2.2.0
I have a master-detail relationship which is linked using View Link. My requirement is to open a popup on double clicking the master row, and the user can add/delete/modify the child rows. Also I need to provide Ok/Cancel buttons. I need to Undo all the changes done for the child when the user clicks 'Cancel'. Can anyone please help to solve this?

First u need to a custom SelectionListener and make sure that RowSelection is set to single row. Add a method in the Managed Bean and make the row as current using the below java code

After writing this code.. All u need to do is Drop the Detail Table on the Dialog of ur popup. This way u will get all the rows of the table. So, filter this table with the foreign key using some code..

Using Views in Real time mappings?

Hello fellow OW Builders!
I have been investigating OWB 11gR2 as a solution for data warehousing. The requirement I have is to produce a real-time system, to propagate any changes in the source data as quickly as possible, to the targets. The problem I have is, I only have access to the source data via views on the database. I can create 'regular' mappings using views as a data source, as part of a batch load process. However, I cannot set up Queue Operators (required for real-time mappings), using views as the data source.
I am hoping there are some OWB gurus out there, who might be able to suggest a suitable approach, for real-time data warehousing, using views as a data source? If it helps with your creativity, it doesn't have to be an OWB solution (although I think that would be preferable). The database version for the source and targets is 10gR2, should that be of interest.

ETL for Data warehouse - use view instead of transformations?

When populating staging tables, is anyone else using this approach of using a view - as opposed to transformations within your ssis dataflow ? I had not thought of this approach, but I suppose it results in the same goal - to get the wanted schema
for data flowing into the destination. I suppose it would be just a matter of using the view as your source - as opposed to the underlying table(s), followed by transformations before the destination?

I would say that it depends. You want your load to be efficient and your want your load to be simple and easy to enhance later. Sometimes these goals can be conflicting, so you need to decide what's important for your implementation.
Regarding efficiency, you will typically be better off with a view as the filtering, lookups etc will be done at source, so less data transferred to your staging area. For example, the view might only ask for 12 of 25 columns in a source table, so
you will be bringing over, perhaps, half the amount of data. Another example, your view might join two tables at source, while another design option would bring over all of the larger table and perform a lookup (on the smaller table) for each record
of the larger table. This could be extremely inefficient if each lookup went back to source.
Regarding easy enhancements, in the first example, if you bring over all 25 columns, you might find it easier to add one of the, as yet, unused 13 columns. Regarding the second example above, with views, there is a risk that a new view will be created
for new requirements, resulting in multiple views importing overlapping data. You really only want to import each datum once, with no duplication. Note; duplication is unlikely if the views are essentially one view per logical table in the source
system.
I've sat on the fence a bit answering this question, but it really does depend, and it is a big question. What you need to do is understand the ramifications of the design you implement. Having qualified my response, I very often use views to
perform simple 1:1 mainipulation of the source data.

Most of the views are based on tables (or other views which are based on tables).
The view typically shows one org at a time based on the context that is set.
If you need records for all orgs, you need to use the underlying tables. Oracle typically names the tables with a _all suffix.
e.g. PO_HEADERS will show records for one org at a time. PO_HEADERS_ALL will show records for all orgs.
