Using xmltable in forms 10g

I am getting the error *'Error 103 at line 15, column 30 Encountered the symbol "(" when expecting one of the following: ... '*.
My query that is causing this error is :
SELECT *
from XMLTable('for $e in /Applicants/Applicant return $e' PASSING v_result COLUMNS Cnum number PATH 'Cnum')
,firstname varchar2(200) PATH 'FirstName'
,surname varchar2(200) PATH 'Surname')
It is complaining about the bracket '(' just after the XMLTable keyword.
Does forms maybe not understand the XMLTable keyword?? as the exact same code works fine when run directly on the db.
Please can someone help me identify the problem or an alternate solution.

user2691144 wrote:

Anyway; forms has it's own PL/SQL engine and as XMLDB is probably not a part of it this could be the cause of your problem. As a workaround you could write your xquery in a database procedure und call this procedure from forms.

  • Using OLE in forms 10g

    Gurus,
    I have a problem. I want to import MS-Excel sheet into forms 10g, any builts to be used ?? what's the procedure ?
    Can anyone help me
    Regards

    Well, the application should come from the client machine rather than serverThe application runs from the server (as it is web-forms), but the UI runs and the client.
    WEBUTIL is designed to do things on the client. So CLIENT_OLE is executed on the client-pc.

  • Problem running reports using webutil in Forms 10g

    This is about 3 dll files related to webutil functionality in forms 10g
    d2kwut60.dll
    jacob.dll
    JNIsharedstubs.dll
    I am running report which is using webutil functionality. So when I try to run report, our application server try to download above dlls to my local machine on path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
    Due to security policy, our company doesn't allow write access to folder C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin and hence report is failing to run.
    We need solution for this issue so that we should be able to run report successfully?
    Details as below:
    Application server : Forms 10g - 10.1.2.3 ( Using Sun jre and not jinitiator). We do not want to use jinitiator
    Browser - IE8

    Curious, typically Java will store these "temporary" files in the cache not in the BIN directory. Unfortunately, the only way I know to change the location of the CACHE (temporary files) directory is through the Java Control Panel applet. Open the Control Panel and start the Java Control Panel. On the General tab click the Settings... button in the Temporary Internet Files section. In the Location section - click the Change button which will bring up a "Temporary Files Location" dialog box. Simply navigate to a directory that your security policy will allow files to be written too.
    The ideal solution would be to push this type of change out to all of your users rather than have to manually change each workstation. I don't know if there is a way to push this change out, but you can check the Java website for more information.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to use TABLE_FROM_BLOCK in forms 10g ??????

    i have use the procedure below code in when-validate of a database item in forms6i its working fine ,but the same form i have compiled in forms10g and then when the when validate is fired it gives following error
    frm-40933 Cannot populate table because datatype is incorrect.
    CODE :-
    PROCEDURE CHK_DISB_DT(RECNO NUMBER) IS
    LOAN_DISB_TBL_TYPE ITEMS_IN_BLOCK;--DECLARE A VAIRIABLE OF TYPE ITEMS_IN_BLOCK
    TYPE LOAN_DISB_REC IS RECORD(LNA_DISB_DATE DATE);
    TYPE LOAN_DISB_TABLE IS TABLE OF LOAN_DISB_REC INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    LOAN_DISB_TBL LOAN_DISB_TABLE;
    I NUMBER;
    DT DATE;
    BEGIN
    LOAN_DISB_TBL_TYPE(2):='LNA_DISB_DATE';
    TABLE_FROM_BLOCK(LOAN_DISB_TBL,'PT_EMP_LOAN_ADV_DISB',1,ALL_RECORDS,LOAN_DISB_TBL_TYPE);
    DT:=TRUNC(LOAN_DISB_TBL(RECNO).LNA_DISB_DATE);
    END LOOP;

    You've specified the lna_disb_date item to be the stored in the second field in the record but only 1 field has been defined for the record.
    TryLOAN_DISB_TBL_TYPE(1):='LNA_DISB_DATE';Since you're only using the data from 1 record in the table you could make the code more efficient by using "recno, recno" instead of "1, all_records" and then reference the date as "dt := trunc(loan_disb_tbl(1).lna_disb_date)". Note that doing this might give a different error message to what you previously may have seen when recno is greater than the number of records in the block. So if recno could ever be too large then you should test to find the error which is generated.

  • Using webservices in forms 10g

    hi,
    i am using webservices in my form. i am doing this by importing java classes and so on as per the webservices documentation. I run this form without any problem through windows. I have the classpath set up with the necessary jar file in default.env and system classpath.
    Now I have to put it in the forms server (through AIX) so that the users can start using it. I have put the above form in the necessary directory and set up everthing. The form runs fine but when it comes to the webservices part, it gives me an error which basically means it cannot find the jar file. I haven't put the jar file anywhere in the forms server.
    Can somebody please let me know :
    1) Where in the forms server should I put the jar file
    2) Where do I setup the classpath in the forms server?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jan,
    Thanks for your reply. I placed the necessary jar files in ORACLE_HOME/jlib and then set up the classpath in the env file I'm using (not the default.env, i have my own env). But I still get the classpath error after I run the form. Have I place the jar files in the right folder??
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Use of unicode in forms 10g

    Can anyone guide through steps to use unicode in forms 10g.
    i have set computer environment variable NLS_LANG.
    and settings in default.env and nls_lang in regedit all to 'AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 '

    Thanks Billy.
    Yes you are right.
    Here why I discarded that option is,
    I may get the source files with changing layouts.
    My Actual scenario is as follows.
    Initially we developped all the things using PL/SQL packages. Its working fine.
    But as per the inputs we received from requirements group, the file structure changes dynamically. and we would able to consider those new columns also. We should be able to changes the rules dynamically.
    Lets say, we doing fullouter join on Src_A and Src_B. on columns col1_A and col1_B.
    Now the requirement changes in a way that, the join should be done on Src_A and Src_C. on columns col1_A and col_C.
    For this I need to define a new package.
    Instead of that, I would like to do everything dynamically based on configuration parameters given as input.
    Thank you,

    According to Metalink's Developer 2.1 Release Notes (Doc ID #90090.1), section 4.2.1, "TABLE_FROM_BLOCK Built-In":
    DO NOT use the TABLE_FROM_BLOCK built-in described in the
    documentation. It is reserved for internal use only. No support
    for this built-in will be provided under any circumstances.
    If you used this built-in, you will need to recode your from(s) for 10g.

  • "connect_by_isleaf"  is not working in Forms 10g

    Hi gurus,
    I have a tree control in my application,I use a query to rollup some amounts
    according to certain criteria,I used the pseudo-column 'connect_by_isleaf' which is a wonderful new feature in 10g and it worked fine in SQLPlus,when I used it in Forms 10g ,it didn't recognise it and gave an error while compiling : identifier "CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF" must be declared.
    Why? what is wrong?
    Thanks

    Thanks Rajesh,
    I have made a work around,I created a function on the database (with 'connect_by_isleaf' in it) and called it from Forms 10g,
    Bingo....worked fine.
    Hope this helps others.

  • EAV modelling approach on database tables and how to use it in Forms Dvl

    Hello,
    I am dealing with two tables in data modell which are structured on EAV ( Entity-Attribute-Value ) modelling approach.
    Survey( Survey# number not null,
    Start_Date_Of_Survey date not null ,
    End_Date_Of_Survey date null,
    Sts_Of_Survey varchar2( 4 ) not null ,
    Contractor_Partner# number not null, -- reference foreign key, to Partner's Table
    Survey_Report CLOB ) ;
    Survey# primary key of Survey.
    Meta_Survey_Parameter_Register( Parameter# varchar2( 40 ) not null,
    Additional_Parameter_Desc varchar2( 240 ) null,
    Type_Of_Value varchar2( 60 ) not null,
    Data_Type varchar2( 10 ) not null,
    Unit varchar2( 10 ) null,
    High_Value varchar2( 20 ) null,
    Low_Value varchar2( 20 ) null );
    Type_Of_Value Is restricted to : ATOMIC_VALUE, INTERVAL_VALUE_FROM_TO
    Data_Type is restricted to: Date, time, number( X,Y ), varchar2,
    Unit is varchar2 value not resstricted: for example: %, kg as kilo, m as meter, m/s as meter per second, null
    This table is meta table so it suppose to be used as some register - static part of the schema.
    Then I have table which attaches Parameters to the Survey as the association table
    Survey_Parameters( Survey#, Parameter#, Value, Comment );
    Primary key( Survey#, Parameter# );
    I need to implement this in Forms and Reports.
    My question is how to implement it to maximally make good use of Oracle forms 10g or 11g features and Oracle Reports 10g:
    a) when fulfilling the survey and use of parsing rules supplied in Meta_Survey_Parameter_Register
    b) at the producing as the survey report with reports
    c) in data analyisis in data warehouse impementations.

    Hello Craig,
    Thank you Craig for your answer.
    I must confess that I am also not familiar with EAV theoretical background and concept. Till recently I even did not know that this kind of problem could be placed
    in theoretical background called EAV. This put smile nad releive on my mind. Because since this moment I do not feel this kind of problem as some exception or
    some exceptional tools or data design ( object modelling and object databases ) suppose to be used. This way I can still counted on concepts in RDBMS databases
    and applications. Well I guess so.
    Let me comment and answer on your text between your lines.
    I am only conceptually familiar with EAV modeling, so I don't claim to be an expert! ;-) Given the abstract way in which data is stored with EAV, I would suggest that you first create a SQL Query that will produce the desired record set.
    Ok. But I guess you have in mind to transform vertical set of values to horizontal ( pivoting, transposing )?
    View has cast operator that transform data type of each parameter from general ( e.g. varchar2 ) to the one that is registered in the
    Meta_Parameter_Register. This way it is provided to get the survey with the list of assigned parameters in horizontal shape?
    Once you have this, you can either use the Query as the source of a Database View and then base your Forms data block on this view or you can use the query in a Procedure and base your Forms data block on the procedure or lastely, you could use the query directly and base your Forms data block on the query using the "From Clause" option.
    Ok, I think I understand it.
    So When I have horizontal list there is challenge during
    - insert
    - delete
    - update
    operations how to handle these operations to transform to vertical operation.
    This could only be done with Forms data block based on procedure and instead of triggers?
    The simplest option would be to create a DB view and base your block on the view. You will not be able to update the data however. If you need to be able to change or add new data, I would suggest you use a Procedure based block. Take a look at these links for additional information on using Procedure and From Clause based blocks.
    Ok Craig, sounds like it makes sense.
    IT seems your suggestion is caling for some simpler example with the same characteristic of the problem.
    Like two tables:
    Master( Master#, ..... )
    Detail( Master#, Detail#, value_low_or_just_value, value_high, data_type )
    Forms: How to base a block on a FROM clause Query
    Forms: How to base a data block on a Procedure
    Ok,
    Hope this helps,
    I see your point and it makes sense , it is only the challenge to see how much of flexibility I can reach and how cheap workarounds are to preserve
    the level of flexibility in the tools that are not naturally supporting EAV ( like forms and reports ).
    If someone's response is helpful or correct, please mark it accordingly.
    Sure...
    We are on the line.
    I am sure there is someone else in the community that experienced this kind of challenge.

  • Forms 10g on Mac, nothing new ?

    Hi,
    our customer want to use our application on Mac. I made some tests and some research on this forum but it seems that some glitchs are always there...

    First problme, font size. I try to add this line in base.htm :
    <PARAM NAME="clientDPI" VALUE="150">
    but it does nothing.
    Is anyone using Mac as Forms 10g client ???
    Thank you !

    Hi there....
    My company uses forms for both Windows and Mac clients. We are using 10gR2 and don't need any special section set up in formsweb.cfg for the Mac. The only difference is that you must set up the clientDPI parameter in both your html pages and your formsweb.cfg. So in your formsweb.cfg file, create a parameter like this:
    clientDPI = 96
    This affects only Mac clients, since Windows clients are already 96dpi.
    Let me know if you have any more questions.

    hi
    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: Oracle_Home is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    Oracle_Home with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
    and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
    C:\webutile is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
    cd C:\webutile
    copy jacob.jar Oracle_Home\forms\java\.
    copy jacob.dll Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\.
    The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
    Open a DOS command prompt.
    Add Oracle_Home\jdk\bin to the PATH:
    set PATH=Oracle_Home\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    Sign the files, and check the output for success:
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
    you may skip this step. Otherwise,
    Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
    connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
    for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
    Open Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
    out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
    errors.
    Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
    CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
    GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
    CONNECT webutil/webutil@rcci
    @Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
    -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
    Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
    grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\default.env, and append Oracle_Home\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
    to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\formsweb.cfg insde [default] add :
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar
    archive=frmall.jar
    also add :
    [webutil]
    WebUtilLogging=off
    WebUtilLoggingDetail=normal
    WebUtilErrorMode=Alert
    WebUtilDispatchMonitorInterval=5
    WebUtilTrustInternal=true
    WebUtilMaxTransferSize=16384
    baseHTMLjinitiator=webutiljini.htm
    baseHTMLjpi=webutiljpi.htm
    baseHTML=webutilbase.htm
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar
    WebUtilArchive=frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar,f90all.jar
    archive=frmwebutil.jar,f90all.jar
    lookAndFeel=oracle
    7) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\webutil.cfg and add :
    transfer.database.enabled=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.enabled=TRUE
    8) Start the OC4J instance
    9) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
    Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
    It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in Note 303682.1
    If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
    full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    10) Create a new FMB.
    Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
    There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
    Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
    Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
    NULL;
    to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
    Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
    show_webutil_information (TRUE);
    in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
    Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).

  • How to use LDAP with Oracle forms 10g on Oracle application server

    Hi,
    I need some help on this. I have developed oracle forms 10g on application server 9iAS. The client want to use the existing LDAP authentication to the software we wrote. I do not know how I could configure to use the existing LDAP authentication . If anyone know how would I use the existing LDAP on different server to use when they logon to our menu in 10g to validate the user. Do I need to add any varibales in formweb.cfg or any other method. Please help.
    Thanks
    Luksh

    I am not quite sure if this works out of the box. According to an Oracle FAQ:
    4.2 Can I use LDAP to authenticate Forms Services?
    Not directly. However, Oracle Login Server is able to authenticate against a LDAP directory and thus a Forms application can take advantage of this in a SSO environment. But you cannot use access control information stored in a LDAP directory with Forms.
