In Solaris 10, the directory /etc/pam.d/ do not exisist. It haves only the file pam.conf.
But, i don't know, what i must read in this file.
Can you help me? Please.
Greetings

Thanks a ton for this tip. Finally my logs will not be polluted with junk. I agree with you that the troublesome entries should be commented by default. Just like this:

    password required pam_unix.so #service=system-auth

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, we are trying to configure a Linux client to do the same thing, but can't get the system-auth file correct either.

    Hi Jason,
Wondering if you got an answer for this. I am having similiar issues with LDAP on Solaris 10.
Any feedback will be of great help.
    Thanks!

  • Stacking Problem in pam.conf on Solaris 10 ?

    Hi all,
I have pam.conf with enteries for
    # Default definition for Password management
    # Used when service name is not explicitly mentioned for password management
    *other password required pam_dhkeys.so.1*
    *other password requisite pam_authtok_get.so.1*
    *other password requisite pam_authtok_check.so.1*
    *other password required pam_authtok_store.so.1*
    As per my understanding the
    (I) SPI pam_authtok_get.so.1 is used to get the user credentials from password DB.
(II) SPI pam_authtok_check.so.1* is used to check if the new password supplied is satisfying the password policy on the OS ( by reading values from /etc/default/passwd )
(III) SPI pam_authtok_store.so.1* is used to store the newly entered password to password db.
Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere.
Now I have a requirement thar an application has to be wriiten which will just check that the entered password satisfies the password policies of the OS or not, but it should not update the password DB(should not store the password)
I make the following enteries in my pam.conf
    osPasswdCheck password required pam_dhkeys.so.1
    osPasswdCheck password requisite pam_authtok_get.so.1
    osPasswdCheck password requisite pam_authtok_check.so.1
I removed the entry for pam_authtok_store.so.1 as I dont want to store the but when I run my application it always give error 20 authentication manipulation error.
    please refer (/usr/include/security/pam_appl.h)
I have done all the formalities w.r.t writing a PAM Conversation funtion and the application is returning success when I add the pam_authtok_store.so.1 into the SPI
Please anyone can help me out.Is there is anyother way with which I can use my application just to check password (w.r.t. OS policy) .
I will be really thankful if anybody can provide me with working PAM Modules stack for achieving it.
    Thanks in advcance.
    Regards,
    Rahul.
but I dont want to store it.

Why not just keep the "pam_authtok_store.so.1" line in your pam.conf file and set it to a level of "requisite" or lower? I haven't tried it myself yet, but I've found that in the past when editing this file, completely removing a line rather than giving the PAM stack what it would expect to see with that line being there in some way can also cause problems.

  • Problem when "Checking for Mail" using IMAP and POP

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3G running 2.0.1 and created 3 mail accounts (1 Gmail using IMAP, and 2 using POP).
When I first set up the phone 2 days ago the installer copied the settings from my Mac and emails on my iPhone showed up correctly.
Since yesterday something is screwed up because when I try to fetch new email I only see "Checking for Mail" at the bottom of the screen but nothing happens and new emails don't show up.
Any idea how to fix this problem?
    Thanks!

FYI you don't actually have to completely reboot the phone. From inside your email program, push and hold the HOME button for 7 or 8 seconds until it exits email and dumps you back at your home screen. That causes a hard-quit of the email program and will reset it. You should begin getting email again immediately after.
Here's hoping Apple fixes that anomaly on their next release...

Whereas /etc/default/passwd on the ldap client says passwords must be 8 characters. This is seen with the pam_authtok_check: minimum length from /etc/default/passwd: 8
. It is clearly not using the policy from the directory server but checking locally. So I can login ok using the ldap server for authentication but when I try to change the password it does not use the policy from the server which says I only need a minimum lenght of 6 characters.
I have read that pam_ldap is only supported for directory server 5.2. Because I am running ds6 and with password compatability in ds6 mode maybe this is my problem. Does anyone know of any updated pam_ldap modules for solaris 9?

you can try passwd -r ldap for changing the ldap passwds...

ok sorry everyone but i solved it myself but the solution is so nuts i've posted it here to help others who have the same problem.
to setup a comcast imap account on your iphone:
go to mail, contacts, etc in settings
    under accts, select add account
    select "other"
new screen, choose "add mail account"
now on the new acct screen you must enter your name, email address and password for your GMAIL acct ! (yes i said your gmail acct !, or some other acct with a NON comcast address).
    hit next
    then the acct verifies
when verified a screen will open with all the acct settings for this acct AND @ the top of the screen are the 2 buttons > imap or POP
select imap and THEN CHANGE ALL THE ACCOUNT information to the comcast account !
then hit next and the account will take a couple minutes to verify but it will verify and now you have a comcast imap acct set up on your iphone.  The problem must be that when the iphone sends the initial verify acct info to comcast (if you enter that information first) the comcast server is simply not setup yet to signal the iphone that there is an imap option.

I've been with the same UK internet and email provider for years and they've given me solid and reliable service. I've worked my way through the Apple Knowledgebase checklist and tests and proved that my isp/esp is working normally so the problem has to be with Mail.
I fiddled about trying to create a Mail Account on my late 2011 but-new-to-me MacBook Pro a couple of days ago and, it might be completely unrelated and simply a coincidence, but since then none of my devices, Iphone 4S, Powerbook G4, iPhone 3G, the MBPro can send email using Mail.
Whenever I try I get prompted for my password but when I enter it says it's wrong but it definitely isn't because I even changed it this morning through my isp/esp and it worked and I then changed it back again to my correct password and it works also to get into webmail that is, not via Mail.
When I run Mail\Window\Connection Doctor and check the status it shows Mail is unable to connect to server but that it can connect to the internet. I get the following message: Trying to log in to SMPT account failed.  Try to verify that username and password are correct.
Now, whenever I try to create a new email account on MacBook Pro Mail keeps defaulting to iMap and wont let me change it to Pop which is what I need.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Dear All,
I'll finish off this thread in case it's of use to anyone else in the future.
I couldn't get the email pop account to recognise my sign-in even though I've been using it continually and without problem for the last several years. It's always been BT and Yahoo so it's more likely to be the fiddle about I did on my temporary, pre migration user account that caused the hiccup.
In th end I had to create another pop account which I was able to once I'd migrated my settings from my PB G4 to the MB Pro.  Unfortunately this didn't merge the numerous email folders that I'd created previously in Mail but I still have them on the PB and I believe they can be transferred manually which is what I will do.
Thanks for everyone that took the time to help.

  • Imap and ical can't safe data

    hello!
after settign up a total new server after haftign problems. i finished setting it up, want to copy local mails back to the imap and import aicbu file into iCal. both apps are not able to safe this data. they show it for a moment and then delete it...
    HELP!!!!

    I GOT IT!
i used the primary mail account as a iCal-invitation account...iCal deleted my mails!!!
unclick it in the server app under ical!!
    great!

  • I keep getting asked for  username and password on both IMAP and Exchange when on 3G network but not Wifi!

We are having serious issues with one of our Google Apps accounts. We have done everything we can think of to get it to work properly on 3G but for some reason it continually asks for the user's password no matter how many times we enter it. However, it does work on WiFi!!
The iPhone says "Cannot get mail, the username or password for USERNAME is incorrect."
This happens on both Exchange and on IMAP accounts. We have deleted the accounts and set them up again several times but to no avail.
It is also worth noting that I have exactly the same settings on my identical iPhone and have no problems whatsoever so we think it may be something with the google configuration.
    Please help!!

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • Imap and Pop not working on 2013 servers - BAD Command received in Invalid state

    Hello,
We recently moved our frontend server over to Exchange 2013. So now both internally and externally all mail traffic will flow through the new servre. After battling issue after issue I was able to get the new exchange environment working as it should. The
only problem is that IMAP and POP3 logins do not work for 2013 mailboxes. It works fine for 2010 but not 2013. Here are the results from the testconnectivity website:
The IMAP service is being tested.

  • Imap and yahoo with mac mail

I access my Yahoo using Mac Mail.  It is set as imap and set for store sent messages on server.
The problem is this:-  when I reply to an email I have received the sent message is appended to the incoming email (on the Mac) and is shown on Mac Mail.
If I send an email from scratch it goes into the sent box on the Mac.
The sent emails do not appear when I access Yahoo using a web browser so why is it not saving the sent messages on the server OR have I got imap totally wrong?
    thank you,
    Gordies

Last I knew Yahoo did not offer IMAP mail except only on the iPhone and to access your account via POP, you needed to pay for the service.

  • IMAP and Mail 3.5 not importing/moving messages to upper 'INBOX'

Within the last 3 months I finally got an iPhone. This event caused me to change my POP email accounts to IMAP. I have a total of 5 email accounts. They were all POP and are now all IMAP and have been this way for a couple of months.
2 of these accounts are Gmail accounts, one is a dot.mac, and 2 are with an independent web host that does support IMAP.
I have the inbox in the top left with a 'folder' for each account. I then have a list of all my folders I use for local filing. I then have a folder for each IMAP account at the bottom of the list. For the Gmail account there is a nesting of folders. And inside of each folder is typically a 'sent' and 'trash' folder.
The issue I am seeing with new mail coming into my computer is this.
New mail will come into the IMAP folder and SOMETIMES be put in the upper INBOX. There really is no rhyme nor reason as to why the messages do not show up in the top INBOX consistently. It appears to be doing this with all accounts.
One behavior I am able to replicate is this. If I dig into one of the bottom IMAP folders to find an email message that is unread and NOT in the upper INBOX and click on it to read it, THEN go to the upper INBOX the message will now show up as READ.
I can replicate this with every unread email that does not show up in the upper INBOX.
First, why show me the folders at the bottom? If they absolutely need to be there why will they not consistently show or 'move' the unread message into the upper INBOX?
Anyone have insight or suggestions on what I can do to resolve this?
I would like to NOT lose anything I have presently set in mail.
Let me know if you have any questions that can help explaining further.

Oh yes, sorry for the partial answer.
No, I there is no difference whether the emails have an attachment or not, and though a few days ago it seemed to be an on-and-off problem, it seems now that any new email (attachments or no), refuse to hit the INBOX folder.
As far as selections for keeping messages, I do break a bit from the Gmail mailbox behaviors, but only for junk mail, since I rarely use the google web app, and want to confirm junk mail is being labelled properly. All enabling junk mail does for me, basically, is give me a Junk folder in Mail.app that I can point Gmail/Junk to use. Apple Mail rarely picks up its own Junk since Gmail catches it first.
Drafts - stored on server (checked)
Notes - stored on server (checked)
Sent - stored on server (checked - only because I'll click on [Gmail]/sent mail and have it used as the Sent folder.)
Junk - stored on server (never causes copy problems or slowness, Gmail, as i said, catches junk/spam first). Delete after 1 day.
Trash - Move deleted messages to Trash mailbox (checked), Store Deleted messages on Server (checked). Permanently delete after 1 week.

  • Mail only allows IMAP and not POP

    hi folks
yes i know, hold down the option key and get the POP option, but this is still not working.
for YEARS i used pop with no problems, now all of a sudden i have IMAP only and it appears to be duplicating thousands of emails in secondary mailboxes below the primary ones.
my mac expert told me this is cos i'm using IMAP.
so, i went into gmail, changed one account to IMAP DISABLED / POP ENABLED and i set up the POP account in mail.
    it doesnt work!
how is it possible i could be working fine for years and now all this happens? i change NOTHING...
at times, my accounts just plain stops working!
what's going on? this is all such a DRAG!

Instead of using the large preset account settings icons (Google, AOL, Yahoo, etc), use the "Other" option on the bottom. You'll have to enter more info manually, but, if offered by your service provider, you can choose between IMAP and POP by the settings you provide.
