Validating a xml document via dtd or xml schema

hi.
i am trying to validate a xml document's structure via dtd or xml schema. unfortunately i dont have a clue how to do this. although i read some documents about it i didnt find a way to it yet.
i am using dom4j to build a org.dom4j.Document from a String.
my expectations were like this:
- read data into string
- create org.dom4j.Document from a string
- after successfully creating the document calling document.validate(xmlSchema) throwing a ParseException (or something like this when the xml doesnt meet the requirements given by the schema)
please help!

Class org.dom4j.Document does not have a validate() method.

  • Problem when trying to load an XML document with DTD or XML SCHEMA

    Hello
    I have tried to load an XML document in Data Services, and I created the xsd file and Dtd file. (With altova xml spy software automatically) to import into SAP Data Services 3.2. .
    In Data Services I created the dtd import file DTD and then called the XML file from the DTD (the xml file is validated vs the dtd file), and I could not read the xml correctly because it tells me that an ELEMENT called <item> expected joiners who did not come in the structure of import (dtd), but if the xml.
    I understand that the document root is the label: CUSTOMER_FULL_2014, the data flow is as follows:CARGA_XML_CUSTOMER |
    Turns out the joiners element is used to separate the xml elements are repeated, but is used at different levels. My idea is that the design will dtd second, or something I'm missing or is incorrectly stated.
    Thank you.

  • Creation of a XML Document with DTD entry

    I am trying to create a XML file on the fly. I use the
    NodeFactory to contruct a document (createDocument()). I have
    then setStandalone("no") and setVersion("1.0"). when I try to
    add a DOCTYPE node via appendChild( new XMLNode("test",
    Node.DOCUMENT_TYPE_NODE)), I get a ClassCastException.
    This is using the 1.0.1.1.0 xml parser.
    What is the mechanism to add a node of this type? I noticed that
    the NodeFactory did not have a machanism for creating a DOCTYPE
    node.

    There is no mechanism to create a new DOCUMENT_TYPE_NODE object
    via DOM APIs. The only way to get a DTD object is to parse the
    DTD file or the XML file using the DOMParser, and then use the
    getDocType() method. Note that new XMLNode("test",
    Node.DOCUMENT_TYPE_NODE) does not create a DTD
    object. It creates an XMLNode object with the type set to
    DOCUMENT_TYPE_NODE, which infact should not be allowed. The
    ClassCastException is raised because appendChild expects a DTD
    object (based on the type).
    Also, we do not do any validation while creating the DOM tree
    using the DOM APIs. So setting the DTD in the Document will not
    help in validating the DOM tree that is constructed. The only way
    to validate an XML file is to parse the XML document using
    DOMParser or SAXParser.

  • Not able to validate the xml document against DTD using SAX

    Hi ,
    i am not able to validate xml document against its DTD using SAX parser even after setting setValidating = true. even if the file is not correct according to DTD , it is not throwing any exception. what could be the reason.? please help..
    kranthi
    this is the code sample i used.
    SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
    factory.setValidating(true);
         try {
    factory.newSAXParser().parse(new File("sample.xml"), handler);
         } catch (SAXException e) {
         e.printStackTrace();                         System.exit(2);
         } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    }

    Hi karthik
    Thanks for your response
    Actually iam a beginner in java coding hence struggling to come up with the things
    I tried putting your code and onserver side i see it is returning 09:12:17,234 INFO [STDOUT] [root: null]
    actually the same program i wrote in java
    and the same method i was calling from the main
    and it is working fine and the xml document is getting displayed one important thing to be noted here is that the factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename));is returing XmlDocument
    and the printing takes place
    but the in same method public static Document parseXMLFile(String filename, boolean b) in servlet
    the line factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
    and this creating problem , had it returned XmlDocument
    i would have printed the elements one one
    but as it is returning deferredimpl
    iam unable to print the elements
    could you please tell me why factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
    in servlets but in plain java pogram it is returing XmlDocument
    Thanks

  • Validate XML document (no DTD reference)

    Hi,
    I have two files: document.xml and rules.dtd. My "document.xml" does not reference "rules.dtd", but I would like to validate basead on this file. Is it possible?
    Is there a method like: boolean isValid(String xmlFile, String dtdFile) ?
    Thanks,

    Add a <!DOCTYPE root_element SYSTEM "dtdFile.dtd"> to the xml document.

  • Using java to fill in the blanks in an xml document via a schema

    Hi all
    What im trying to do is basically take an xml document and run it through a xml schema validator and then if the xsd has any default values to basically populate the original xml document with these default values
    e.g.
    <root>
    <name>dave</name>
    <name></name>
    </root>
    the schema would be something like
    <xs:element name="name" default="bobby">
    after schema validation i would want the document to be
    <root>
    <name>dave</name>
    <name>bobby</name>
    </root>
    is that something possible to do in java with any specific xml frameworks out there? if so can any one give me any pointers in the right direction?

    i assume by the lack of response this cannot be done then :(

  • How to validate generated XML-Document in Memory by XML-Schema?

    Hi all!
    I have the following problem:
    I am generating a Document using the DOM delivered with Xerces 2.6.2.
    Before I'll send the generated xml-document through network to another system I have to check with my xml-schema if the document is correct.
    In the DOM-FAQ I found an "example" trying to explain how it should work. But with this example the problems begin.
    I am creating my document with this method:
         public void createDocument() {
              myDOM = DOMImplementationImpl.getDOMImplementation();
              doc = myDOM.createDocument("", "documentData", null);
              root = doc.getDocumentElement();
              root.setAttribute(
                   "xmlns:xsi",
                   "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance");
              //          root.setAttribute("xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation", "myScheme.xsd");
              domConfig = ((DocumentImpl) doc).getDomConfig();
              domConfig.setParameter(
                   "schema-location",
                   "file:///d:/workspace/XMLProject/WebContent/WEB-INF/myScheme.xsd");
              domConfig.setParameter("error-handler", new EHandler());
              domConfig.setParameter("validate", Boolean.TRUE);
         }In the line getting the domConfig, it is getting differeing to the example: The example is like this:
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.w3c.dom.DOMConfiguration;
    import org.w3c.dom.ls.LSParser;
    Document document = builder.parseURI("data/personal-schema.xml");
    DOMConfiguration config = document.getConfig();
    config.setParameter("error-handler",new MyErrorHandler());
    config.setParameter("validate", Boolean.TRUE);
    document.normalizeDocument();They get the DOM-Configuration from the document-Object, but my document-Object has no "getConfig()" and only after type-casting I get a getDomConfig()-Method to get the configuration.
    Then I fill my document and call
    ((DocumentImpl) doc).normalizeDocument();When I run my Application I get the following error:
    org.w3c.dom.DOMException: FEATURE_NOT_SUPPORTED: The parameter schema-location is recognized but the requested value cannot be set.
         at org.apache.xerces.dom.DOMConfigurationImpl.setParameter(Unknown Source)
         at xmlProject.createDocument(Convert.java:63)
         at xmlProject.Convert.main(Convert.java:154)I tried several ways to get the validation without success.
    The next question is how I should refer to my xml-schema (which path) and where to place it relative to my jar I will generate, because I will have no webserver I could place it on.
    Has anyone any experience with validating a document created and not placed on disc?
    I have also another question to SAX: I read, that it is reading a document without saving it in the memory. I think this means that if I am validating it by SAX it will be read once and for parsing it will be read a second time. If I would transfer the document over an tcp-connection, I only have the document once in my inputstream and after validation it would be consumed I think. But what can I parse then? Or did I missed a detail with the function of the SAX?
    Thank you for your help!

    Not a standard feature of XSLT. But Michael Kay's XSLT implementation, SAXON, provides that as an extension. Get it here:

  • Invalid XML document - "&" character in dp-xml

    Hi guys,
    Do anyone know how to avoid XML parser exception
    in admin console throwed because one of the
    attributes in dp.xml has "&" sign in the value string (e.g. URL) ?!
    PS: I am talking about editing dp xml via amconsole.
    Thanks,
    Alex :-)

    Did this work for you? When I try & amp; it works the first time, but when I go back in to edit, it's resolved back to plain '&' and gets an error again. I certainly don't want to change it every time! Same thing happened with the entity reference.
    When I use '%26', it doesn't resolve in the browser view.

  • Parse XML document with LINQ TO XML

    Hello,
    I need to parse an XML Feed that looks like this:
    <ContentAPI xmlns="http://www.geneity.co.uk/genbet/ContentAPI" status="OK" timezone="UTC" msg_stamp="NzMzNzUzNzE6MTAyMTppdA==" version="1.0" request="get_sports">
    <Sport sport_code="FOOT" name="Calcio" has_events="Y" disporder="-2"/>
    <Sport sport_code="TENN" name="Tennis" has_events="Y" disporder="1"/>
    <Sport sport_code="BASK" name="Basket" has_events="Y" disporder="2"/>
    <Sport sport_code="VOLL" name="Pallavolo" has_events="Y" disporder="4"/>
    <Sport sport_code="HAND" name="Pallamano" has_events="N" disporder="5"/>
    <Sport sport_code="ICEH" name="Hockey su Ghiaccio" has_events="Y" disporder="6"/>
    <Sport sport_code="AMFO" name="Football Americano" has_events="N" disporder="7"/>
    <Sport sport_code="BASE" name="Baseball" has_events="Y" disporder="7"/>
    </ContentAPI>
    I want to use LINQ TO XML in order to read it into an object var.
    This is the code that i wrote but i doesn't work...
     XDocument xdoc = XDocument.Load(string.Format("myURL....."));
                var Sport = from feed in xdoc.Descendants("Sport")
                            select new
                                _sport_code = feed.Attribute("sport_code").Value,
                                _name = feed.Attribute("name").Value,
                                _has_events = feed.Attribute("has_events").Value,
                                _disporder = feed.Attribute("disporder").Value
                foreach (var s in Sport)
    The program doesn't run inside the foreach loop...
    for sure the problem is on the linq to xml query...
    Thanks for your help

    Hello, I'm back again...
    Now I have to parse a second file XML with some little differences on the track:
    <ContentAPI xmlns="http://www.geneity.co.uk/genbet/ContentAPI" status="OK" timezone="UTC" msg_stamp="NzM1NTQ5MDQ6MTAyMTppdA==" version="1.0" request="get_classes_for_sport">
    <Sport sport_code="FOOT" name="Calcio" disporder="-2">
    <SBClass sb_class_id="12432" name="Italia" has_events="Y" disporder="-9999"/>
    <SBClass sb_class_id="14603" name="Euro 2016" has_events="N" disporder="-1000"/>
    </Sport>
    </ContentAPI>
    The C# code to get the SBClass elements is this:
    XDocument xdoc = XDocument.Load(string.Format(url_Get_Region_By_Lang_Sport, pCodLang, pCodSport));
    var SportRegion = from _SportRegion in xdoc.Descendants(XName.Get("Sport", "http://www.geneity.co.uk/genbet/ContentAPI")).Descendants("SBClass")
    select new
    CodSport = _SportRegion.Attribute("sport_code").Value.Trim(),
    SbRegionId = _SportRegion.Attribute("name").Value.Trim(),
    Region = _SportRegion.Attribute("has_events").Value.Trim(),
    HasEvents = _SportRegion.Attribute("disporder").Value.Trim(),
    RegionOrder = _SportRegion.Attribute("disporder").Value.Trim()
    foreach(var sptr in SportRegion)
    The program doesn't step inside the foreach loop...
    Thanks again!

  • Simple XML import via url (not xml file, rather xml stream)?

    Looking to solve this issue: have a web-based application and need to populate form with data in order to generate custom report. Understand I can create an xml file and have the pdf read this file. Want to avoid creation of file and get data directly from url (e.g. https://myserver/list/widgets/format/xml - this request will return the xml). I can do this in Flash by specifying a url as opposed to a flat file when importing data. Does LiveCycle offer the same feature?
    Appreciate your time and responses!

    Richard,
    I guess a link or shortcut won't do the trick as it is still pointing to the actual file that is stored in the repository that is enabled in the xmlforms_filter....
    What might be worth trying is to create 2 new File System repositories that point to the same File System.
    For example: fsr_xml_plain and fsr_xml_fancy point to lets say  Windows: C:/my/test/folder or Unix: /my/test/folder...
    Then you add the repository fsr_xml_fancy to the xmlforms_filter and you leave fsr_xml_plain out of it.
    Now if you call https://server.url.com:50100/irj/go/km/docs/fsr_xml_fancy/file.xml then you get the formatted xml file
    and if you call https://server.url.com:50100/irj/go/km/docs/fsr_xml_plain/file.xml then you get the unformatted plain xlm file
    I don't know if above works as I don't have the time to validate it for you at this moment.
    Good Luck,
    Benjamin Houttuin

  • Receiving XML document and getting attachment via URL

    What is the best method to retrieve a file from a provided URL. Here is the scenario. A system will send us an XML document via an HTTP post but the source system is unable to send us the associated attachment as a MIME attachment instead in the XML they will include a extra node with the URL to a file we need to get. What is the ideal method of retrieving this file once we receive the XML message. If the provided link was an ftp site we would hold the message in BPM and use the file adapter but since this is a full url such as http://someserver.com/myfile/file.doc we are looking for the best approach. On thought was a Java Proxy.
    Regards

    Hi,
    there are just two approaches:
    easy one - java proxy
    more diffcult - creating sync adapter for http xmls
    I'd go for java proxy (if possible from secutiry point of view)
    as you will have the link (so no "adapter configuration" necessary in your case)

  • Repository event handler doesn't work when inserting an xml-doc via ftp

    Hi,
    I want to add a 'schemaLocation'-attribute to an XML-document when I load it in the repository. Therefore, I use the precreate-repository event and created a Repository Event Handler (see code extract below).
    Everything works fine if I type the following code in SQL Plus:
    Declare
    v_return BOOLEAN;
    Begin
    v_return:=DBMS_XDB.createresource('/public/xml/test.xml', XMLType(bfilename('XMLDIR', 'test.xml'),nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')));
    end;Unfortunately, when I try to insert an XML-document via ftp into the /public/xml folder it doesn´t work as expected and no 'schemaLocation'-attribute is added to the new resource.
    What's the reason for this strange behavior and how can I solve it?
    For your information: I use the Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0

    urn:iso:std:iso:20022:tech:xsd:sese.023.001.01 http://www.test.com/Testswift.xsd
    "/>The workaround also works for the DOM version presented above.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I add (or insert) a node into an XML document with JSTL?

    Dear all,
    I am trying to use JSTL to store some data from a form into XML. However, I have read many articles in JSTL and only found that it can only be, as far as those articles are concerned, used to "read" data from XML files, but not "write" to them.
    Am I missing something in JSTL? Or, if I want to write to an XML file (e.g., insert a new node, or modify a node's data), will I have to write my own bean and then use <c:usebean />?
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Regards,
    Robert

    JSTL is not a programming language in and of itself. It is intended to help you to write scriptlet free JSPs.
    JSP pages (by one school of thought) are intended to function as the "View" in a Model-View-Controller architecture.
    Being a view, JSP pages should be able to look at things - but not touch.
    The standard pattern is to go to a servlet first, which invokes the logic, and then forwards to a JSP for rendering.
    Editing XML by adding new nodes etc etc is thus a function of the java code layer - servlet/action whatever you want to call it.
    Giving you the power to edit XML documents via JSTL (ie on a JSP page) takes away from purity of the MVC design.
    Hence why they don't provide the tags for manipulating XML, and only provide the database tags with a disclaimer that they should only be used for prototypes/trivial apps!
    JSTL is designed to replace scriptlet code on a JSP page.
    It can replace 99% of scriptlet code. The other 1% shouldn't be on the JSP in the first place :-)
