Vanishing/disappearing email from my .Mac account.

The situation is this...
-I keep deleted email for longer than the 30 days that .mac gives me in the deleted items.
-I have a folder called Trash2 that I have set my mail.app and my iPhone to use as my "Trash" when deleting emails (in place of the default 'Deleted Items'). I have used this configuration for about a year without any difficulties.
-I do have a 'Saved' folder where I have a handful of important emails that I want to get at quickly but there are still some random deleted emails that I want to go back to after they are more than 30 days old which is why I use this scenario.
For the third time in a week when I look at my Trash from the iPhone (set to use 'Trash2') all of the emails will vanish and the folder will be empty, approximately 1400 emails. If I go back to my Macbook Pro the emails are still there, cached, but will go away when it syncs with .mac. My backup software runs daily so I am able to restore the emails but this is getting quite tiresome.
Anyone experiencing the same issues? Thoughts?
JT

This is probably not, and very unlikely to be, from your .mac account. Rather it is from a PC infected with one of the viruses that spoofs email addresses, sending to every email address found in the PC from every email address found in the PC. It does not require a .mac account for this to be done.
You should still report it to MobileMe as abuse of your email address.

  • I can no longer receive me emails from my .mac account on my iMac even though I have been able to receive it for the past number of years, I have an iCloud account and it is sending my mail to my phone but not my desktop. What gives...

I can no longer receive my emails from the icloud to my mac even though it has been doing it fine since I moved to the icloud a number of weeks now. I only get my mail if I log into icloud or I get it on my phone, it is not synching to my iMac. Can someone assist please.
    Thanks
    Don

I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.
    Thanks

  • Lost all my emails from my .mac account

Hi. I discovered today that all my email has been deleted from my mail account. i use .mac and suspect (though she denies it fervently) that my 11 year old has done this accidentally, which I guess means she must have just blown through the usual 'are you sure?' warnings...
Is there any way to deal with this, given that it must have happened in the last 5 days, or should i just reconcile myself to rebuilding all those useful files (and put in place a proper backup strategy....)?

If you haven't changed your .Mac account from a .Mac or IMAP type account to a POP type account and you don't access the account using an email client on another computer and the received messages are no longer available at the server when checking the account using webmail access, sounds like your 11 year old is to blame.
Messages in server stored mailboxes for a .Mac or IMAP type account remain on the server until deleted using the Mail.app or with webmail access. Messages are also removed from the server when transferred to a user created "On My Mac" mailbox in Mail which is stored locally on the hard drive.
The only mailbox that is stored on the server by default with a .Mac or IMAP type account is the account's Inbox mailbox. You must select to store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server.
A backup of server stored mailboxes with the Mail.app will not be much help.
IMO, you shouldn't allow your 11 year old access to anything in your login account and Home folder/directory and disable automatic login when starting or re-starting the computer if currently enabled.
Create a user account for your 11 year old without admin privileges with a password that you know and enable Fast User Switching which makes the process of switching between user accounts a fast and easy process. When stepping away from your Mac, log out from your user account or switch to your 11 year old's account. This way, all data contained in your Home folder will be protected from such an accident.

  • I can no longer send emails from my mac yahoo business account, but can send them directly from yahoo. just not from mac mail. I've been able to send emails perfectly fine until today. Help!

I can no longer send emails from my mac yahoo business account, but can send them directly from yahoo. just not from mac mail. I've been able to send emails perfectly fine until today. I've been on the phone with yahoo mail and they've verified that my account settings are correct and I can send email from yahoo. I can receive emails via Mac mail, but just can't send them. An error message appears that says:
"Sending the message content to the server failed." I can't send emails from my Mac desktop, iphone or ipad. Any suggestions! Help! I'm a Mac rookie and so frustrated! Thanks.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

  • Can you use an .mac alias as "from" email address in .mac account?

My .mac account is in my full name @.mac and MAIL automatically uses that as the "from" email address when i send mail. Is there any way to use one of my .mac aliases instead?

For the email account preferences for any email account, there is a Name field which you can enter anything to appear as your name when sending a message with the account and there is an email address field for the same. With a .Mac account, you cannot enter a different email address to appear as the sending email address for a message sent by the account.
You can send messages from your .Mac account alias email address but the name you have entered for the Name field under the Account Information for your .Mac account preferences will be the name shown with the alias email address when sending a message with the alias.

  • Sending emails from a .me account to a .mac account

    Hello,
For some reason, every time I send an email from my .me account to a .mac account, it gets kicked back with the following reason:
    Reason: unknown or illegal alias
Can anyone help me with this?  It's proving to be quite a problem!
    Cheers.

If you create an account in Mail it should import all your data.
Mail>Preferences>Accounts tab, click on the '+' button to add an account. To set up the account you'll obviously need your email address and password. It's possible that Mail will then be able to auto setup the account. If it can't you'll need to do it manually adding the pop or imap and smtp server addresses.

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.

  • Move all Mail emails from one Mac to another

Move all Mail emails from one Mac to another (both Mountain Lion)
Is it correct to copy (/replace) the following to the target Mac?
    ~/Library/Mail/
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    and everything beginning with
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist...
    Many thanks!

The Imap account does not need to be moved, sign in on the new machine, your mail will be there.
Does this mean even though these mails had been downloaded to the first Mac, they are still stored online too
Yes, Imap systems store all mail on the server, all connected clients are synchronized to the server (the mail itself stays on the server)
... regarding the POP accounts. Do you simply want the contents are or you planning on continued use of these accounts on the new machine?
    Continued use.
Export each mailbox from the old machine to the desktop, to do so select a mailbox, rght click and choose Export, repeat for all others. Move the mailboxes to the new machine'sdesktop.
I suggest setting up the new accounts before importing the mail from the old machine.
In mail choose File>Import Mailboxes, choose the ones on the desktop (one at a time) a new mailbox will appear in Mail called Imported, you can move mail from there back to the correct mailbox in the POP accounts.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • I want to copy email from my mac to my pc. Forwarding one at a time via email works well, but when I try to forward several of them at a time I receive one large email. I want to receive the emails individually on my pc. Any suggestions?

Don't know any 'automatic' way - but, i have "Fetch Headers only" set on each of my 'secondary accounts'.
With varying internet service, manual "Get Messages" is probably the "Best Practice" because you will know how good your service is before you even try.
maybe set "Check for new messages every 'n' minutes" to different times
(3 minutes, 6 minutes, etc.) on each 'secondary' account.

  • Mail won't show messages from my .Mac account

I have set up 5 accounts in Mail. Two of these accounts are .Mac mail accounts and the other 3 are verizon accounts. When I receive an email in any account, the Mail icon bounces on my desktop and makes its alert sound. I can check the 5 inboxes and retrieve messages from the verizon accounts, but not the .Mac accounts. The .Mac inboxes will tell me how many messages I have in those accounts, but I cannot read them in Mail. I have to do go Mac.com to read these messages! The Mac accounts are enabled. All of the accounts were set up before the new Mail came out and Mail worked fine until then, but I have not been able to read my messages in Mail from the .Mac accounts since the new version of Mail. Is this a common problem and is there something I can do to fix my inability to read these messages in Mail?

Let’s check whether the rules could have a bearing on this:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
    4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules have no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Cant recive emails from my Mac Mail?

    Hello
I'm having a problem receiving emails from my mac mail account. have all the correct details and no fire wall blocking my connection to the inter net.
However I go to mac Mail and click get mail were there is a timer and after about five Min's of churning around a strange *Warning icon* appears at the side of my mac mail in box, and eventually a warning pops up
Saying *(Same actions taken the account "MacMail was offline could not be completed Online.*
*Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "On My Mac" in "on My Mac" so that can somplete the actions while online.*
*Additional Information: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 993 timed out.)*
(I have my gmail accounts as well and they seem to be working okay)
    Any help would be great.

    Hi Simon:
Open Mail. Highlight the mailbox(s) you wish to rebuild. Click on Mailbox from the menu bar. Click rebuild. That process takes a few minutes, normally. Frankly, I am not sure what it does, but it does "fix" problems on occasion. The mailbox "help" has a bit more information.

  • Cannot receive any emails on my mac account after October 1st

    Hello Everyone,
Any one can help me to tell me what should I do to receive emails on my mac account? After October first i cannot receive anything anymore. I want to buy an extra storage but after I go to my system setting I only see MobileMe instead of iCloud and this cannot allow me to do anything.
I will appreciate a lot if anyone can help me and explain me what I need to do.
    Thank you

    Are you an ex-MobileMe subscriber?
MobileMe subscribers who migrated to iCloud received complimentary extra storage up until September 30 2013. This has now expired. If you have less than 5GB data in iCloud then your storage simply reverts to 5GB.
However if you have more than 5GB data, Backup, Documents and Mail will stop working until you either delete sufficient data to bring you within 5GB or purchase additional storage.
For instructions on purchasing additional storage please see
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4874
Unfortunately it appears you have Snow Leopard: you don't have the iCloud preference pane, only the MobileMe one which won't do anything now. You can only purchase storage on a Lion/Mountain Lion Mac, an iOS5 or above device, or a Windows 7/8 PC. If you can't get access to one of these to sign into iCloud temporarily then you can't proceed without upgrading your Mac (see below). Your only other option is to reduce the amount of data.
For help in reducing your iCloud data please see
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4847
You can go to http://icloud.com and delete as much as possible, or if you have iCloud email set up in Mail you can create a new mailbox under 'On My Mac' and drag iCloud emails to it to download them and remove them from the server.
If you want to upgrade your Mac it will have to meet the requirements:
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
    and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
