  • Environmental variables as command line args

    Hello, all,
    I would like to pass an environmental variable as a command line argument for a java program.
    Example:
    java MyClass $MY_VARIABLE
    However, it actually passes "$MY_VARIABLE", and not the value of MY_VARIABLE. I know that I can use java -D(MY_VARIABLE=SOMETHING) and get it using System.getProperty ("MY_VARIABLE");
    However, I would prefer it the first way, actually passing the variable inside command line. Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you,
    Elana

    Nevermind... Error in my code... It works
    Thank you

  • How to export an environment variable from command line ?

    Hello,
    I have build a python application which run some processes(or executable or other python scripts) using subprocess.
    i.e.
    subprocess.call(["xyz.py"], shell=True, stdout=log_file, stderr=log_file)
    Above call throws an error as "xyz.py is not recognized as an internal or external command." I added the location of xyz.py into path variable inside a batch script which I used to run before running the script.
     set PATH=D:\path of xyz:%PATH%
    But As subprocess executes a script into anther child shell, This setting is not available in child shell (or sub-shell) used by python script.
    How can I make this PATH setting available to sub-shell also ?

    Rather than going into much details I have used explicit path by referring only one environment variable of the shell where application is running.
    i.e.  As xyz.py will be in a specific location of my repository, I am setting path of root_dir:
          set root_dir=<path_of_root_dir>
          And then,
          subprocess.call([os.path.join(os.environ['roo_dir'], 'dir', 'xyz.py')], ...)

    try checking relevant environment variables like the CLASSPATH.... a major source of failures in Windows is when in the classpath there is a path containing SPACES.... also enabling some "debug" or "verbose" flag (not sure how to do it) would provide more insight...

  • Unable to set 'tap to click' by command line

    Use case: I'm trying to write a script to set up new macbooks with a set of dev tools and usability configuration options.
    Most configurations are simple enough to change by altering the global application setting e.g. setting the scroll direction with the command:
    defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.swipescrolldirection -bool false
    Apparently the following commands were able to enable the tap to click trackpad behavior in previous OSX versions:
    defaults -currentHost write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 1
    defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 1
    However, as of Maverick (and possibly Mountain Lion) these do not work.
    I checked the defaults values and changing the scroll setting via the GUI does indeed change the actual variable (com.apple.swipescrolldirection) and changing the variable by command line successfully changes the setting. However, the tap to click variable does not exist in the defaults NSGlobalDomain read out and setting the tap to click via GUI has no effect on any variables in this list. When I create and turn on the com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior variable, oddly the GUI's checkbox is checked for tap to click but the feature remains turned off.
    My best guess is that trackpad options have been moved out of NSGlobalDomain and there is still some vestigial code reading for the no longer functional variable that is setting the gui checkbox even though its not enabling the feature.
    My question: how can I set tap to click (and other trackpad options) by the command line?
    Thanks!

    If you do "java -jar ..." on the command line then any "-cp ..." options are ignored. That's because "java -jar ..." assumes you will have set up the classpath in the jar's manifest file like you're supposed to.

  • Using a variable for a whole command line

    Hi,
    Is it possible to put that commandline:
    Execute-MSI -Action Install -Path "$Var_SourceFiles\$($Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[0])" -transform $Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[1] `
    -Parameters $Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[2]`
    -LogName "$var_PackageLongName"
    in a single variable and then just run the variable instead of writing the whole command line?
    Thanks,

    You can put in a script file and call the script.
    .\myscript.ps1
    You canput it in a variable like this:
    $sb=[scriptblock]::Create('Execute-MSI -Action Install -Path $Var_SourceFiles\$Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[0] -transform $Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[1] -Parameters $Itemvar_Setup_Parameter[2] -LogName $var_PackageLongName')
    $sb.Invoke()
    You cannot pu tit in a variable and run it except.
    Your command also leaves a lot to be desired in a PowerShell session.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Variable does not work for sqlplus (command line)

    Here is an select:
    variable x number;
    variable y number;
    variable a number;
    define x = 2000;
    define y = 2*1000;
    define a = &x+&y;
    select ener from adding where ener = &a;
    When I execute it under SQL*Plus Worksheet (client installed on my PC) then I get output:
    ENER
    4000
    1 row selected
    When I execute this same under command line sqlplus (under unix shell) then I get output
    old 1: select ener from adding where ener = &a
    new 1: select ener from adding where ener = 2000+2*1000
    no rows selected
    What is worng ?

    Nothing.
    Sqlplus is correct and sql worksheet is buggy.
    Define works with strings only. You cannot use it to calculate an expression.
    Apparently sql worksheet did calculate the expression, and sqlplus didn't, submitting it as a string.
    This is the expected behavior.
    This behavior can likely vary by version, so thank you for not providing version info.
    Will anything awful happen when you do, or is this just the lazyness epidemia in this forum?

  • Issue with variables and white space in powershell script that calls a command line command

    Guys,
    I have a question regarding this script. Each time I run it, it creates the share, but with a space after it. Also I need help figuring out how to put in the variable for the folder path.
    Below is the code
    $Users=Import-Csv C:\users2.csv
    foreach($User in $Users){
         $User.SNCORP
         $User.HPB
         $User
         cmd /c "net share "$User.SNCORP"=D:\Users\"$User.HPB" /grant:Everyone,FULL"
    The csv file looks like this
    HPB,SNCORP
    ccarter,carterch$
    This is my output in powershell
    PS C:\> .\shareflip.ps1
    carterch$
    ccarter
    HPB                                                         SNCORP
    ccarter                                                     carterch$
    The syntax of this command is:
    NET SHARE
    sharename
              sharename=drive:path [/GRANT:user,[READ | CHANGE | FULL]]
                                   [/USERS:number | /UNLIMITED]
                                   [/REMARK:"text"]
                                   [/CACHE:Manual | Documents| Programs | BranchCache | None]
              sharename [/USERS:number | /UNLIMITED]
                        [/REMARK:"text"]
                        [/CACHE:Manual | Documents | Programs | BranchCache | None]
              {sharename | devicename | drive:path} /DELETE
              sharename \\computername /DELETE
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Christopher

    There is no need to use cmd /c. You should be able to use:
    net share "$($User.SNCORP)=D:\Users\$($User.HPB)" "/grant:Everyone,Full"
    Use showargs.exe (from the article) at the beginning of this line to see the command line PowerShell is actually running (very useful for troubleshooting).

  • How to pass in variables using the command line when starting ActionScript native app

    How do I pass in variables or startup arguments using the command line when starting an ActionScript native app? For example, I have my app call MySweetWidget and it has been compiled with Adobe AIR captive runtime so now I have MySweetWidget.exe.
    In the command line, I am calling MySweetWidget.exe and would like to pass in variables or properties to the application. I would assume that those variables are then read from the loaderInfo.parameters object.
    Please let me know if the Adobe AIR runtime supports passing in parameters to the native runtime. If so, I would like help determining the correct format of how to pass in the variables. Then would you read those from the loaderinfo.parameters object?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    I found the answer to my own question:
    Yes it is a supported feature. It is documented on the following page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/desktop/NativeApp lication.html#event:invoke
    When you subscribe to the invoke event of the NativeApplication it will subsequently dispatch the event and you read the e.arguments Array object to get the startup arguments passed into the native application.

  • Using computer variables in task sequence "Run Command Line"

    I am attempting to deploy VMs through VMware's vRealize Automation tool using CM. The process creates a CM computer object then creates a direct rule on a CM collection for the new computer object. During the creation of the computer object vRA creates computer
    variables provided by me on the computer object. I see the computer object built and i see the custom variables on the computer object:
    Name Value
    dns1 10.10.10.10
    dns2 10.10.10.11
    gateway 10.10.10.1
    ipAddress 10.10.10.2
    netMask 255.255.255.0
    In the task sequence the last step is to "Run Command Line":
    cmd /c netsh int ip set address name="Ethernet0" static %ipAddress% %netMask% %gateway% & cmd /c netsh int ip set dns name="Ethernet0" static %dns1% & cmd /c netsh int ip set dns name="Ethernet0" static %dns2% index=2
    When the TS gets to that step it doesn't substitute the variables in the command with the computer variables listed above. Looking at the smsts logs after the deployment is complete I see lines stating:
    Set Command Line:...
    Start executing command line:...
    Executing command line:...
    ProgramName = ...
    All of those lines show the command exactly as it is above with the %variables% intact.
    The command immediately fails with the error:
    Invalid address parameter (%ipAddress%). It should be a valid IPv4 address.
    Does anyone have a suggestion on why the TS isn't using the variables? I found this article https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693541.aspx but its for 2007 not 2012. I wasn't able to find something comparable for 2012.

    I don't know why anyone here thinks you *need* sccm osd to achieve fully automated customizations.
    Customer selects base image (2008 r2 core, 2008r2 gui, 2012 r2 core, 2012 r2 gui), which should be thin and with zero customizations anyway,
    vaai accelerated clone creates vm,
    ip addr/gateway/dns config is injected with powercli,
    customers config management engine agent of choice is installed via powercli script injection/execution (we have puppet users, ConfigMgr users, saltstack users, IEM users, Cheff users),
    the clone completes in ~2 minutes and a VM is presented to the customer in less than 5 minutes
    Deploying windows VMs via SCCM OSD is not only slow, but requires dev work on the customer side to get things rolling which wastes everyone's cycles including your own

  • [RESOLVED] How I pass in my command-line variables disgusts me

    Hello,
    What I'm trying to do is to make an easily configurable script that the user can run with just a few basic command line variables (some of our users are not programmers.)  Now, here's my problem, when it comes to extracting the variables from the command line, it's kind of messy.  Lets say I have the following command:
    $ ./hl_script.sh --config-file=config_abc.txt --rate=5000 --data-dump=/opt/dump_area -v
    "-v" means verbose
    Now, given the weird arrangement of the different types of command line arguments, I'd like to extract the salient parts of the information that I care about.  However, at this moment, all I have is the "cut" command which can easily get into undefined behavior territory should the user misstype an input.  I would love to know how you have done this and what your approach to this problem is.
    This is the code that I have so far:
    # this is where we run the initial test and check if the user entered the
    # help flag in order to see how to properly use this application.
    if [ $# -gt 1 ]; then
    for argument in $@
    do
    if [ $argument = "--help" ]; then
    echo "Here is how you would use this software and the flags that would"
    echo " be useful."
    echo " --help"
    echo " Brings up this display and shows a listing of the options"
    echo " that can be used to better utilize this app."
    echo ""
    echo " --config-file=N"
    echo " Specify the config file that we'd like to use."
    echo ""
    exit 0
    elif [ `cut $argument | cut -d'=' -f 1` = "--config-file" ]; then
    # read-in the config file that we specified and then proceed to set a
    # bunch of environment variables that we need.
    echo "stuff..."

    done

  • Forms degugger command line params/runform variable

    Good afternoon all, i hope you are doing fine.
    I am looking for a way to 'read' the flag and/or variable that will tell me if the form beeing run, is beeing run in debug mode.
    Just like you see when running degugger, in the command line parametres node/runform ...DEGUG = YES...I am looking for a way to get this reading without running debug...Is there a built_in like...
    tool_env.getvar ('USER', l_var_char)...that exist to find out if the form beeing run, is beeing run in debug mode.
    Thank you for your time and effort,
    Michel turcot

    You have a global variable, or a package variable that you hardcode, for example:
    :GLOBAL.DEBUGGING := 'FALSE';
    You set this off, but default. When you want to debug, you have to remember to set it to something else, like TRUE.
    Then, in whichever trigger you want, you can reference it:
    if :GLOBAL.DEBUGGING = 'TRUE' then
    -- do debugging stuff.
    end if;
    It's a bit tedious, because you have to remember to change the code when you want to debug or not.

  • Use Applescript variable in Python command line

    Using automator
    Python Shell Output -> [1,2,3,4,5]
    goes to Applescript
    Run Applescript ->
    on run {input}
        set seq_list_appscript to {}
        do shell script "python -c 'for s in input: print s'"
    end run
    it doesn't work . . . how can I call the "input" which is an Applescript variable within the "do shell script" python command line ?

    If the input is actually a list of items, then you would need to iterate through them or coerce the list to something for the command line.  If the input is just the text "[1,2,3,4,5]", then the variable just needs to be inserted into the text of your script statement - the results of the script are returned by the do shell script command, so they can also be assigned to a variable:
        set whatever to (do shell script "python -c 'for s in " & input & ": print s'")
        display dialog whatever

  • Is it possible to pass command line as variable.

    Hi to all,
    I have an application(java based) which upon execution asks for database name after selection thru file dialog, it spawns dos window and executes batch file (and the batch file contain command line java programm).
    Now my question is how can i pass the database name to this spawned java application in dos prompt.
    Anybody's suggestion is welcomed.
    Regards
    Khizer

    Two ways, as a property or as an argument.
    You can set it as a property like this using the -D option:
    java -Ddatabase.name=MyDatabase ....
    Then you can read it from the application as
    System.getProperty("database.name");
    Passing it as an argument goes like this:
    java ... MyMainClass MyDatabase
    and read it as
    public class MyMainClass {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        if (args.length == 1) {
          System.out.println("Database name is: "+args[0]);
        } else {
          System.out.println("Usage: java ... MyMainClass <database name>");
    }

  • Error Received When Trying To Create DSN From The Command Line

    All,
    Your help is greatly appreciated in advance. I am having trouble packaging Oracle 10G for a batch file deployment. Everything is done except for getting the DSN created which is causing me major problems. We am working with the Oracle 10G R2 10.2.0.1.0 Client on Windows XP Professional SP2. The Oracle database resides on a Windows 2000 Professional Server SP4 running Oracle 9i.
    Our Environment: I am creating two packages of the Oracle 10G client. The first is for a batch file distribution via LANDesk and the other package is for normal batch file install if someone from IT is installing this from a user's desk. Both scripts are really identical the only differences are how they are laid out. I only need help with the DSN creation as everything else is ready to go. I am going to focus on the Non-LANDesk batch file as once I fix this in one script the other one should also be fixed.
    The Problem: The batch script copies the neccesary files to the temporary directory. I then extract the setup files to the temp folder. I run a custom Oracle install using the RSP file from a recorded install. After the install is complete I copy the TNS Names file to the proper location. I then try to call a CMD file with the ODBC command seen below the main script.
    Script (May be easier to read if you download using link below):
    @ECHO ON

    ODBC Script
    odbcconf.exe /a {CONFIGSYSDSN "Oracle in OraClient10g_home1" "DSN=CCR|Description=CCR_data|SERVER=BWB|Database=CCR"}
    As soon as the command is called I see the following error message appear.
    "CONFIGSYSDSN: Unable to create a data source for the 'Oracle in OraClient10g_home1' driver: Could not load the setup or translator library with error code -2147467259"
    The really strange thing though is that if I let the main part of the script run (Not the ODBC call) and then immediately manually start the ODBC call script it works just fine. So, I don't really understand why the script can't add it itself. Or, I can go the Administrator Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>and then add it manually which also works. I have tried just pasting the command directly in the main script, therefore, bypassing the call feature but it doesn't make a difference.

    Has anyone ever seen this kind of issue before? Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
    Thanks so much for your help in advance,
    Clif Bridegum

    All,
    I thought it may be related to spaces in the path in which the script was called from. I tried having the ODBC command script in another directory but the same thing happens. It will give me the "CONFIGSYSDSN: Unable to create a data source for the 'Oracle in OraClient10g_home1' driver: Could not load the setup or translator library with error code -2147467259". As soon as the script is done running I can manually double click the script and it adds the DSN fine.
    Thanks,
    Clif Bridegum
