  • BW 3.5 - Issue with formula variable with replacement path

    Dear experts,
    I'm facing an issue with formula variable with replacement path.
    Just to clarify, I know replacement paths is raising a lot of questions but I've been using this functionnality extensively in the past, both in 7.0 and 3.5, so I'm not looking for basic information about how to use it.
    I'm trying to setup a simple report that would show total values per plant of Purchase Order < 100 €
    To do so I've setup a calculated key figure as follow:
    VAR1 * ("PO value" < 100 ) * "PO value"
    VAR1 is a formula variable with replacement path on 'purchase order' and value attribute 'constant =1'.
    (The report has to show values summarized by plant but should not show the detail PO by PO, so I'm not looking at a solution based on condition)
    The report as characteristic "plant" in rows and my CKF in columns.
    Now let's take an example. I have 3 POs in Plant 1:
    PO1 -> 150€
    PO2 -> 90€
    PO3 -> 80€
    Because of the variable with replacement path, the result in my query should be:
    plant1 = 170 (even though characteristic "purchase order" is not in my rows, system should evaluate PO one by one and return values only for those two that are below 100).
    But the result coming is 320, which is wrong.
    I've done the same report on many other 3.5 systems and it worked perfectly, and I am not able to get proper support from SAP OSS who keep saying that this functionnality is not ready in 3.5 (although I've provided screenshot of this working on another 3.5 system!!! how frustrating...)
    They have also pointed to problems of Before and After aggregation but that has absolutely no impact. Once again, the scenario is working perfectly on other 3.5 systems with the same query design, so i'm sure it has nothing to do with Query Designer options.
    Would anyone have ever come to an equivalenet problem? I'm wondering whether the DB itself could not play a role in the variable with ref  characteristic 'constant =1' ...
    Any though is welcome!

    Hi,
    The text variable is replaced when the exact date is clear for this key figure column according to the restriction.
    To achive this, please make sure that either the variable is directly restricted in the key figure selection, or that the date characteristic is in drilldown.

  • Using variable with the same name as field name?

    I have a complex proc where I have variables with the same name as field name used on a query. something like this:
    SELECT a.id_table WHERE a.id_table = id_table
    where the last id_table is a parameter sent to the proc:
    declare procedure myproc(id_table int)
    Is there any way or notation to declare the variable inside the query as a variable or I have to use a different name?

    Well, variables are not the only thing you have to change if you want to switch to Oracle.
    Although I don't think it is good practice (to use variable name same as column name), here is one example how you can achieve it using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE and bind variable

    How can we Restict the Char value Variables with <, >, <=  (without selecting Inverval or only passing single value)
    For Example
    We have a standard Query 0FIAR_C03_Q1005, in this
    New Selection
    "1 - 15 Days, Posting Date<=Key Date, Clearing Date>Key Date"
    This is restricted  with the
    Clearing(0CLEAR_DATE)
    <Clearing key date(0P_KEYD3)  It is a single value SAP Exit Varible
    PostingDate(0PSTNG_DATE)
      <= Posting keydate(0P_KEYD3)  It is a single value SAP Exit Varible
    When seeing these 0P_KEYD3, 0P_KEYD3 variables in the New selection screen they looks like  >0P_KEYD3, <=0PSTNG_DATE
    if you define any custom variables these are looks like =ZV_DATE.
    to enable < , >, <= symbols for variables what we need to do.
    In other way
    Say we created one variable ZV_DATE single value, processing type as customer exit.
    for this we populated current day,
    Now Requirement is we need to display the all the records which are <= current date,
    instead of passing low and high values, i want to restrict the calday <=ZV_DATE
    New selection
    0calday
      <=ZV_DATE
    How can we achive this, this is how the business content report having the restrictions
    Please sugget me.

    Ok,
    In the InfoObject 0calday in the query designer under the filter area, under characteristic restrictions right-click over that InfoObject (0calday).
    In the next window (select Values for [0CALDAY]  Calendar Day in the dropdown box for "Show" choose Value Ranges. Under the word "Between"  dropdown box select "Less than or equal to"
    Below that word click on the button of the dropdown box Select from list.
    In the new window select instead of History Variables and double-click on your variable ZV_DATE.
    Click on the right blue arrow to move it to the right.
    And there you go.
    Tip: It exists a SAP standard variable named 0DAT which is exactly the current date (don't need to use ZV_DATE variable).

  • Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer

    Dear experts,
    I created a univers based on a SAp BW query. In this query I used a text variable in order to get dynamic header columns.
    The text variable is done by using "replacement path" that is the text is derived automatically from the user input triggered by a sap bw variable.
    example :
    the query contains a restricted key figure which shows net values for a selected year based on variable PYEAR.
    The name of this restricted keyfigure is &ZYEAR& where ZYEAR is the text variable with replacement path from the variable PYEAR.
    When generated the univers based on this query I get component &YEAR&.
    When I use this unvers in WebI my result containts header with &YEAR& althougth I selected for example the year 2006.
    According to several how to and white papers on SDN , it seems that text variables with replacement path are supported. So I am disapointed by this result.
    Can you give me advise to get a rigth result ?

    Hi Rishit,
    I am trying to achieve the same as you, but it seems like text variables in restricted key figures do not work. I am using BO XI3.1 SP3 and SAP BW 7.01 SP6.
    A work-around for me has been to use the "user response" function in webi to create a webi variable that holds the dynamic text title. If the user inputs Jan 2010, I change the input to a date using the "user response" and "ToDate" functions in the webi variable editor. After changing the input to a date I use the RelativeDate to extract 1 month (e.g. 25 days) from the user input. Then I have both Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 as webi variables to use as headers for my restricted key figures.
    The formulas can easily become a little long, but by tweaking the user response string, you should be able to get dynamic headings by using webi functionality. But be aware that you need one webi variable for each dynamic heading if you use this method.

  • Replacement path variable with offsets

    Hi experts,
    I have the requirement to report receivables (open items) historically by fiscal year / period.
    More precisely, each period should show the open items that are open at the end of the period.
    Example:
    001.2010 (shows open items from 31.01.2010)
    002.2010 (shows open items from 28.02.2010)
    ...etc.
    The idea is that the user enters a fiscal year/period using a manual entry variable.
    The open items should be calculated as follows:
    KF: Amount
    Posting Date <= Variable
    Clearing > Variable or unassigned
    Variable is a replacement variable that is replaced by attribute "Date To" from the user entry Variable (Fiscal year period)
    E.g. if the user enters 008.2010, then this value is automatically replaced by 31.08.2010.
    Generally this works.
    However, to view the values for the last 12 months, a structure is needed consisting of 12 elements with offsets in order to show the 12 months prior to the selected period (e.g. 001.2010 - 002.2010 - 003.2010 ....etc.)
    The problem is that the replacement only considers the user's variable entry and ignors the offsets.
    Example:
    User enters 008.2010.
    In the column strucure I show 3 months 006.2010, 007.2010, 008.2010.
    Then all columns would show items open on 008.2010 - the offsets are ignored.
    Any idea, why this happens and how it can be resolved?
    This problem has given me a headache for days.

    The user should be able to enter a fiscal year / period and

    take an e.g.
    u have characteristic say ch1
    u want to restrict it with replacement path variable
    first of all create a variable var1
    click what it is based upon for e.g. 0calday, 0material etc.
    make it user entry variable
    select single or multiple entry
    make it mandatory
    save it and hit okey
    click on ch1
    right click and say restrict
    in new window create a new variable
    give its name and technical name
    processing path is replacement path
    go to next tab of replacement path
    select several ooptions
    replace variable with another variable
    select a variable called var1
    change the offset length and offset start with different parameters.
    hit okey
    this way u have restricted ch1 with replacement path variable var1
    now when u run report u have to enter value of var1
    which will then further feeded to ch1
    this way u can create replacement path variables at lots of instances and then u can always feed the value from var1 at different time
    make sure as this ur requirement is date
    try to use 0calday as reference infoobject all the times....

  • Using a Variable with BEX Java Applications

    If I put a variable into a query and try to run the query using anything Java based (e.g. Web analyzer) when I do a drop down on the variable in the query to make a selection I dont get a proper selection choice. For example if I have a variable on Cost Centre I do the drop down on cost centre and I dont get a list of cost centres to chose from I just get ?? where the cost centres should be. If I select a ?? it does select a cost centre. It's just pot luck which you selec as they are all ??!  This happens on any variable I use SAP Standard or any I have created. Any ideas - sounds like a Java patch should fix it but I cant see anything in SAP notes etc.

    I put a query in a WAD or when I Execute a Query from the Query designer.  When I run the query the variable on the filter kicks in and it requests I select something e.g. cost centre. When I do the drop down in the variable to select a cost centre I dont get a list of cost centres. Only ?? where a cost centre should be. However when I select a ?? it does know what the cost cejtre is as it populates the variable with a cost centre. All the cost centre data is loaded etc.

    Setting a VarChar Variable with a String Parameter in a Crystal Report 2008 SP6.3 Add Command is causing an error with a SQL State of 42000.  The Error Code depends on which value I select for the parameter.  I created the @DateOpt string parameter in the Modify Command window, not in the report. If I comment out line 14 of the SQL the error does not occur.
    I have attached the SQL Code and screen shots of the errors.   Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Since your parameter is of type STRING, you need to enclose references to it within the Command inside single quotes.
    For example, instead of
    SET @BeginDate ={?BeginDate}
    use
    SET @BeginDate ='{?BeginDate}'

    I created a  user entry/ default value variable, which allows multiple single values and is optional entry. And I also got to exclude few values from this infoobject as well as have a variable.  When I select and exclude my value from selsction and run the report, I get a system error and the varibale is converted to mandatory entry. The detail error message is displayed below.  Any useful input will be awarded
    Diagnosis
    Variable &V1& is used in the query in such a way, that an optional entry is not possible.
    For example, you might be using an "Exclude", or the variable might be connected using OR to additional selections for &V2& in the global filter, but is still displayed in the columns selections.
    It is also not possible to use an optional parameter variable to fill an interval selection in either the from-field or the to-field.

    If you are able to accept the mandatory entry, you need not do anything. Otherwise you must work with several variables in the query. You can use an optional interval variable to do this.

    Hi Experts,
    customer requirement is the following:
    Build a layout in which to have in Lead Column the cost center characteristics, but not all cost center in master data but only those chosen by user with manual input. To achieve this goal i have created a variable of type characteristics (associatd to cost center CH) with replacement type "user defined values", then i have put this var in planning level. I have created a layout with Cost Center in Lead Column and set "all possible ch combination" in additional setting.
    Thanks to the varable created, the user can enter Cost Center value, but the problem is that he cannot select more than one single cost center value, for example:
    User want to see in layout CosCen1 and CosCen4, by now he can set variable in order to see the entire range from CosCen1 to CosCen4 (included all intermediate Cost Center) or to see only one between those 2 Cost Center, but it's not possible (or better i don't know how to..) to select both cost center and display the layout with ONLY those 2 Cost Center in Lead Column (CosCen1 and CosCen4).
    In other word, is it possible to set a variable with more than one single value without using range from-to?
    If not, does exist an alternative?

    Hi Fabio,
    It works as follows.
    let's say you have 3 multiple single lines for your cost center variable.
    once you are in the folder, select any single value & the layout is ready for planning with the corresponding cost center.
    now, select the "Cost center variable row" in the header of the folder within section "Name of Variable" & click on "Trash Can" icon to "Delete Selection" of variable.
    this basically deletes all the entered selections (3 entries) & displays for all.
    It works this way, because we don't have "resriction of values required by user".
    if am not wrong & correct me if am wrong,
    overall, this is nothing but equal to "planning level not restricted with any variable".
    I just tested this & the flaw in this is that, it is not only displaying for all the initially entered 3 lines but it displays for each & every cost center irrespective of the variable selections.
    hope it is clear.

  • How to get a "char variable" with presentation variable???

    I want to pass a char variable with presentation variable, I don't have problems if I pass "int".
    For example in answers page I add a column that contains years of my dimension. 2000 until 2012 and prompted my presentation variable "year" (from my dashboard prompt) and when I go to dashboard if I choose in my prompt 2006 in my report appear 2006...any problem and easy. But my problem is if I would pass a char variable, in my prompt also I have months but not numbers else names: January, February, March...and a presentation variable that name is "month". If I do the same report but change column year to month (name) I don't have any results and I have an error.
    How can I solucionate this???

    Do you have separate columns for Year and Month Name. If Yes, Then why it is so confusing?
    1. create a dashboard prompt with month name column
    2. Assign it to monthname variable
    3. In your report use above variable any where.., but what ever you are doing should be logical and valid to get some data.
    In general above approach will work.
    You said, "No! I don't want to do a filter with month! I would like to pass this variable, in this example don't make sense but I need to pass a char variable with presentation variable to do another things..."
    what does that mean, what you are trying to do with the variable in your report. If you give a example that would be better.

  • Import and Export variables with same name

    The nco3 throws and exception when a function has Import and Export variables with the same name.
    An example is BAPI_BATCH_CREATE.
    At the moment my solution is create a ZBAPI_BATCH_CREATE that wraps the original BAPI but  has diferent names for import and export variables (IBATCH and OBATCH for BATCH variable).
    Anyone has another more clean solution?

    Depends on the requirement what you want to show in the formula variable ,
    Eg : if you want to show the max fiscal year period , in that case :
    create a new formula in the keyfigure section of your query , go to edit , you can see formula variable below the keyfigures ,
    right click on the same and create new formula variable :

    How can I include variables with minor change inside a loop instead of hard code each one?
    For example
    aList = ""A", "B", "C", "D"]
    repeat with i = 1 to 4
      temp = aList[i]
      Variable[temp] = 1 (some calculation)
    end repeat
    The variables would be VariableA, VariableB, VariableC, VariableD...
    It's similar to Actionscript's
       this["q" + i + "_mc"]._x = this["dragTxt" + i]._x - 20;
       this["q" + i + "_mc"]._y = this["dragTxt" + i]._y + 14;
    then the instance is q1_mc, q2_mc etc..
    I remember that I could do similar things in Director but forgot how!

    Wow. Talk about not seeing the forest through the trees. There's never any good reason to create variables at runtime like that, regardless if there are ways to do it in the scripting language (which there invariably are). Your "on test" handler above uses a whole slew of lists to set up and create a bunch of "dynamic" variables when you should be stopping at lists and property lists (arrays and associative arrays) to do what you want, which is to store your data. The method you currently have conjured up is excessive at best, and bad programming practice at worst (See this link for some good discussion on why it should be avoided: http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/103083/how-can-variables-be-created-at-runt ime)
    So, I would do what you want like this:
    -- initialize the property list (associative array, in other scripting languages)

    so, I can add as many users as I want... as long as they're identified with unique properties (or keys, in other languages). I can even get the count or number of users:

    I can easily iterate through them and get/set information:
    cnt = gUserStatus.count
    repeat with i = 1 to cnt
      put "Name: " & gUserStatus.getPropAt(i) & ", Status: " & gUserStatus[i]
    end repeat
    In your example you don't know how many users you have because your variables are being dynamically created at runtime. You could create yet another variable to keep track of that, but why when you have lists and property lists that are perfect structures for this type of associative data?
    There's a huge gap in your understanding how to structure, keep track of, and manipulate data, and it's important to fill it now by learning about lists and property lists (arrays and associative arrays). Doing it now will truly open up a whole new way of programming to you.
