Varing the session expiration time

Hi all,
the default session time with my server and the ADTB are too short (24 mins)
Do you have a PROOFED WORKING way to extend the session lifetime?
I tryed both to use the .htaccess variable and the ini_set("session.gc_maxlifetime")
If I query then the ini_get("session.gc_maxlifetime") I get the new session length I decided.
But in fact the session expires after a very short time?
Any help would be really appreciated
A. F.

Hi Fonzie,
if neither the .htaccess approach nor the ini_set function work on your host, I fear I have no idea what you could do instead, as the host admins seems to have disabled both features for whatever reason.

    HI Experts,
    how can we control the expiration time of a particular I view ? we have implemented ESS\MSS application on our portal . The session is getting expired after 5 minutes . We would like to increase this expiration time.
    Thanks
    Surender Dahiya

    Surender,
    Most of the ESS/MSS applications are webdynpro for java applications
    check DefaultExpirationTime in the link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_rc10/helpdata/en/43/8a1a8ece230c8ce10000000a11466f/content.htm
    but you can set expiration time at individual application level using sapexpirationtime which will take the precedence

  • How do i change Session Expire Time in APEX?

    Greetings,
    I am developing in APEX 3.2.
    Every few minutes while i am developing i have to log in again, it gets tiresome every day having to login 100 times.
    So i would like to know where i can change the time it takes for the session to expire so i can change it tom some big value, let's say like 8 or 12 hours.
    I would also like to change the time a regular user can stay logged in cause it also has a small time for the session expire and since i have to test everything i develop it would also be great not having to logging every few minutes when i am testing something.
    I check the places i remembered in administration and user preferences but apart from acount validity i didn t find anything.
    Thanks everyone,
    Best regards

  • Redirect to main jsp when the session expires

    Hi,
    I have a jsp say mainframe.jsp in which I have two frames each having a jsp page say child1.jsp and child2.jsp.
    When the session expires and I when i try do any changes in child2.jsp or child1.jsp, the page redirects to login page and when I login successfully, I am getting redirected to child2.jsp or child1.jsp respectively. But I want it to be redirected to mainframe.jsp.
    Any help is greatly appriciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vinod

    I think I am not clear.
    When I try to login after session expiry, I am redirected to child jsp.
    But what I want is that I should be redirected to mainfram.jsp page.
    url in the address shows : ../mainframe.jsp?ID=******
    When my seesion is expired and I try do some manipulation in child1.jsp (which is inside a frame of my mainframe.jsp). it is redirected to login page and from there to child1.jsp instead of mainframe.jsp
    Now the address url shows : ../child1.jsp?ID=********* because of which I am not able to see child2.jsp along with child1.jsp
    What I want : ../mainframe.jsp?ID=********
    this is the code I am using !!
    String destPage = request.getRequestURI();
    response.sendRedirect("../redirect.jsp?dest=" + URLEncoder.encode(destPage));

  • Timeout Session - Expiration time of Webdynpro application

    Hello,
    I set the sap.expirationTime property of my application to 1 hour,  know the expiration time of my application is one hour. After time out (one hour) I am getting default 500 internal server error page. But as per the requirement we need to display a custom message instead of 500 internal server Error.
    i.e.need to Redirect to Custom page with custom message instead of 500 internal server error page.
    i try to follow as per this link [Timeout of a WebDynpro session;
    but found that in NW 7.0 the parameter sap.sessionExpiredURL is not available anymore. How can archive this?
    Conclusion: If there is a timeout session, instead of 500 internal error page how to display a custom messages?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Maha,
                 With sap.expirationTime property, the application will certainly be expired.
    If your requirement suits for the scenario just try out the following workaround.
    If you want show a custom message only, you can use TimedTrigger UI Element instead of setting expirationTime just set dealy for this and in the action kust navigate to the view and displaye the custom message in that.

  • How to stop a pop up window if the session expires

    Hi
    I have a situation wherein i have my jsp page. in that i have a button on clicking it a pop up window will open to take a input parameter.
    Now what we want is that if the session is not valid than the pop up shud not open.
    Currrently what is happening wen the session is not valid the popup gets open and in that popup a login page is coming.
    The logic for pop has been put in a javascript code which gets executed when the page was first loaded . So even if i put a logic for checking the session before the popup opens it wont work. So what can be a possible way i can do it?
    I am writing a scriptlet to check the logic for valid session.
    function changeLimitFunc(count)
         <% if ((request.getSession(false)== null)) {%>
              return false;
         <%}
         else {%>
    popUp('');
              openedForm.target = 'change_download_limit';
              openedForm.submit();
    <%}%>
    and in the page which geot loaded the same code appears like
    function changeLimitFunc(count)
         popUp('');
                   openedForm.target = 'change_download_limit';
                   openedForm.submit();
    this popUp is amethod where we are createing our popup.
    please help me out to resolve it

    I have written this javascript code to block the popup
    function changeLimitFuncUnopened()
    if (checkIfValidSession()) {
              popUp('');
              unopenedForm.target = 'change_download_limit';
              unopenedForm.submit();
              else {
              return false;
    function checkIfValidSession() {
    <% HttpSession httpSession = request.getSession(); %>
    var lastAccessTime = <%= httpSession.getLastAccessedTime() %> ;
    var maxInactiveTime = <%= httpSession.getMaxInactiveInterval() %> ;
    var date = new Date();
    var time = date.getTime();
    if( (maxInactiveTime > 0) && ((time - lastAccessTime) > (maxInactiveTime * 1000))) {
         alert("Session TimedOut. Please Re-login!!!");
         return false;
    else {
         alert("inside else true shud go");
         return true;
    The code is working fine and blocking the popup. But I am not sure if this will be a correct fix.

  • How to effectively detect the session expiration in the portlet (JSP pages)

    Hi,
    In a web application using weblogic personalization server, I want to
    monitor how many users are currently logged on the system.
    It can be detected when a user logs on(by clicking sign on button), and logs

    I want to know how to detect the sign off event when the session
    automatically expires (in this case, the user does not click the sign-off

  • How to make the session expire when the refresh button is clicked

    Hi All,
    I am writing a Struts application where I want the session to expire when the user clicks refresh button or refresh the page by hitting F5, like any Bank sites. Any help will be appreciated.

    The trick isn't invalidating the session. The trick is detecting refresh requests.
    The Synchronizer Token pattern can handle this.
    Struts can do this for you. Check out [this article|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip136.html?page=1]

  • Apache Web Agent can't reset the session idle time value, pls help.

    Hi, all
    I'm using Apache Web Agent to protect an application, when I enter the application and do some actions in the application, I find my session's idle time value in the AM console can't be reset to zero, and after the idle time, the session will be time out.
    And the session's idle time can be reset to zero when I enter another application that protected by IIS Agent, or when I operate on AM console directly.
    My environment:
    Apache 1.3.33
    Web Agent 2.2
    RedHat Linux AS 3
    Access Manager 7.0 Patch9
    I have found a page with google, but have no answer:

    Please help.

    Thanks for the reply, Shivaram. The issue appears to occur at random time, not accurately at the 3 min interval as you mention. I tested changing this value to 1, theoretically, after one 1 minute of idle time, accessing a link would make the agent reset the time idle value for the user session in SAM, but it didn't even after 3 minutes. This seems to be either a policy agent or system access manager bug.
    We performed a 'vanilla' test using the apache server manual pages (only plain HTML, no POST requests), the pages are protected by the policy agent. At the first login, rwe were prompted to enter credential to be validated by SAM/LDAP, and then a user session is created in SAM session table. We browse around the manual pages, once in a while, certain pages cause the policy agent to reset the time idle. However, revisiting these links after a few minutes doesn't reset the idle value. Caching setting has been disable as well. Could there be or lack of some settings in AMConfig.properties or AMAgent.properties that might have caused this behavior?
    Thanks for all your help,

  • Restrict the session's time limit

    Friends ,
    In my oracle database 10g server the process limit is 400 and session limit is 445 .
    Look at the following v$resource_limit output :
    RESOURCE_NAME CURRENT_UTILIZATION MAX_UTILIZATION INITIAL_AL LIMIT_VALU
    processes |399 |400| 400| 400
    sessions |406| 408| 445| 445
    Now the problem is , in my database more than 100 users are added last week and for this reason my database process crosses its limit (400) . In this case , when a user tries to login then he gets error :
    " SQL> conn user@PROD
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
    ORA-12537: TNS:connection closed"
    In this moment , I dont want to increase the process value and want to find out the session who are idle for last 10 minues . Is there any parameter in oracle which helps to find out the idle session ?
    Also , I want to disconnect those users who are IDLE for 10 + minutes . How can I restrict this without using any profile and also not incresing the v$process value ?
    Waiting for reply .. .

    try with default profile
    SQL> select resource_name,limit

  • Waht is the maximum session expire time?

    i have a web application with login.It does not work when my app reaches the threshold session time.
    What is the maximun time for session??

    Depends per appserver. Refer its documentation / configuration. The default is usually 30 minutes.
    You can however configure it yourself per webapp using <session-config> in the web.xml.
