  • ? Office 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA CommandBars references

Thanks in advance for reading this and offering any wisdom you have! I am not an expert in any of the following, so apologies if off base.
The basic problem is: I need to use Excel 2013 to support Excel 2003 (XLS) spreadsheets containing VBA 'CommandBars' references which don't seem to work in Excel 2013. Details below.
Most of our users are still using older desktop windows PCs and Office 2003!  We are beginning to upgrade to laptops running Windows 8.1 with Office 2013.  Of course, we IT technical people are using the new laptops first. These new laptops are
    64 bit.
Years ago, someone did a lot of development with spreadsheets here in Excel 2003 file formats that automates many activities and routines. Now we with the new laptops are having to support this development using new machines.
There is a basic compatibility issue that appears when first opening these Excel 2003 files that have VBA code that I'll detail below; I seem able to get by that problem.
The current problem appears to be that the existing Excel 2003 VBA code has many references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars". As I've learned, the Application.CommandBars VBA functionality is focused on older MS Office versions' menu
commands, but "...Starting from Office 2007 the Fluent UI is used instead."  In other words, because MS Office isn't menu-driven beginning with version 2007 (uses 'the ribbon'), it appears that these references to: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars"
create a basic incompatibility to opening these spreadsheets in Office 2013.
For a spreadsheet, after I resolve the issue detailed below and save it, when I reopen it I encounter error "Compile error: can't find project or library."
For example, the following code snippet:
    Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    For Each bar In Application.CommandBars
            bar.Enabled = False
        Next
results in: "Compile error: can't find project or library."
(Sorry, can't include images yet, I am not a VERIFIED USER of this forum yet.)
I went into VBE's menu: Tools>References and check for anything marked MISSING, which I deselected. But I am still receiving this error.
I don't want to get into changing the code a lot to support both Excel 2003 and 2013 (I am no VBA expert, just a dabbler).
And Microsoft officially says that Office 2003 is incompatible with Windows 8 although Application.CommandBars seem to be somewhat supported in Office 2013 .
Are you aware of a quick VBA workaround to get by this?
•I could comment out the validations, commands for: "For Each bar In Application.CommandBars" but then the spreadsheet code probably won't work for users using Office 2003.
    Alternatives would be:
•Installing Office 2003 on my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop anyway, in spite of MS's saying incompatible, since this thread discusses at least one person has been able to use Office 2003
•Keeping one older PC with Office 2003 on it for us to support the old Office 2003 code until everyone upgrades their systems
    Thanks
Basic compatibility issue that seems solvable:
Opening these spreadsheets displays this error:
    Compile error:
The code in this project must be updated for use on 64-bit systems.
Please review and update Declare statements and then mark them with the PtrSafe attribute.
This seems resolvable by going into the VBA code and just adding element 'PtrSafe' where functions are declared; in other words, replacing VBA code "Declare Function" with "Declare PtrSafe Function" seems to get by this.

  • Project VBA Documentation/Reference

Similar to docs.oracle.com for Java, is there documentation for VBA 2010? I need to look up a few methods for Project 2010 VBA.

  • Photoshop CS5 has lost file associations

I recently installed both Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS5, deleting the CS4 versions after installation. I have lost file associations for all Photoshop-related files: eg jpg, tiff, gif and so forth, and the psd extension as vanished altogether. (That means that if you click on a .jpg file, it opens in a free MS utility like Paintshop rather than where you want it to go: in this instance, to Photoshop.)
I have taken the following measures, none of which have worked:
Manually altered the associations in Folder Options. I can browse to photoshop.exe, but nothing happens when I select it.
I have gone into the registry and deleted all associations under the relevant file types, eg .jpg etc. Restarting folder options replaces them exactly as they were, and I still cannot associate anything with Photoshop.
I have run Photoshop from the command prompt with the tag /regserver which ought to re-register it. Nothing happens. (If you want to try this, open the Start > Run box, browse to the .exe file and append (separated by a space) /regserver
I have changed and saved all file associations in the Bridge Options section. They are still there after I restart Bridge, but it has no effect on the overall file associations.
So that leaves me stuck. Both CS5 programs are registered in the program list, and both appear in the Start menu list of programs. Neither appear in the Folder Options list. I am running on XP Pro with today's (16 Sept 2010) MS updates. Can anyone help with this?

    Solution
I have found how to fix this, for me at least and on an XP machine. Some users may find the procedure a bit unnerving. You should anyway back up your registry before making these changes.
    Start > Run > regedit
    Go to:
    HKCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
That will give you a long list of file extensions: ex .jpg, .png
Scroll down to and select the relevant ones, one by one. This is moderately laborious, but what follows is repeated exactly. (I found the .tiff extension was slightly different and left it alone. I never use tiffs so I don't know if it works unchanged.)
When you click on the + box for e.g.  .jpg, two 'folders' open. These are
    OpenWithList
This sets the list of potential programs to use for this extension, lettered a,b,c etc.The last entry in the 'folder' is MRUList which sets the priority order for these programs, eg if it has 'bcade' then program 'b' is first, 'c' is second etc. You can edit this order by clicking on it.)
    OpenWithProgIds
This stores what kind of image this is. Under .jpg I found that I had 'jpefile' and something like Photoshop.9 (I don't recall exactly.) This refers to a very old  version of Photoshop, certainly not the last one on this machine. All the other relevant image files had much the same terms associated with them. Some had four or five older Photoshop references: you can delete these entirely by right clicking on them. You then right click on the remaining Photoshop reference and alter it to read Photoshop.Image.12 Do not change the identity entry, e.g. the term 'jpefile', as mentioned above.
It is also worth navigating back up to
    HKCurrentUser\Software\Adobe\Photoshop
I found that I had reference to five separate versions of Photoshop. You can delete all but (numerically below) the 12.0 folder.
Close regedit and reboot. You will find that Folder associations now recognise Photoshop as a valid program and assign it to the files that you have changed. I have not tried adding to the list in Explorer > Folder associations.
This is pretty shameful, frankly. Adobe's installation program should clean out all preceding registry entries when it de-installs a version. It should most certainly write Photoshop12 refereces when installing. This must be a pretty geenral problem.

  • Bridge CS2 won't open

    Hi
I rebuilt my win xp computer did a new install of the OS. I then re- installed Photoshop CS2. For a week Photoshop and bridge worked fine then on Friday I tried to open Bridge and nothing happened. Task Manager shows bridge in the Processes and using 35,520 K of memory. It is not listed as an Application and does not open at all.
I have removed Photoshop and re-installed Photoshop twice Photoshop opens but not bridge. After the un-installs I ran a registration cleanup tool but still found several Photoshop references, I did not try to remove them or modify them.
Also if I try to open Bridge with CTRL held down nothing happens it just lists Bridge as a Processes.
Any ideas? Photoshop has run on this computer with this ram and everything else since CS2 was released so the computer should not be the problem. Everything else works.
    Thanks
    Dennis

First check to see that bridge is not running in background.  Open task manager and click on Processes tab.  Check for any instance on Bridge.exe and close it if found.
I believe to reset CR2 Bridge they still used Ctrl + Alt + Shift.  Try that or check online to see if that is correct.

  • Javascript that worked in CS4 not working in CC

I wrote a Javascript tool that creates perspective grids in Photoshop a while ago.  It works fine in Photoshop CS4.  However, I've been getting a few emails complaining that it does not work in CC.  I've checked the CC release of the Javascript in Photoshop reference guide, but it appears that nothing has changed relevant to my code since CS4.  Any idea what's happening in PS that is causing this script to fail?
    http://kitfox.com/projects/photoshopPersp/Perspective%20Grids.jsx
    Full webpage:
    http://kitfox.com/projects/photoshopPersp/index.html

I've changed the script.  I now create my path layer using the below function.  However, even after explicitly changing the ruler units to PIXELS, the paths I create all seem to be measured in POINTS.  Even if the original ruler unit is PIXELS this still happens.  Is there any way around this (that is backwards compatable)?
    function createPathLayer(title, subPathArray)
        var docRef = app.activeDocument;
        var originalUnit = app.preferences.rulerUnits;
        alert("Orig units " + originalUnit);
        app.preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
        var myPathItem = docRef.pathItems.add(title, subPathArray);
        alert("New units " + Units.PIXELS);
        app.preferences.rulerUnits = originalUnit;

  • Read PDF form from email attachment

Hope someone is able to help on this one...
We are using a pdf form at work to gather some feedback and the user will be submitting the form via email...
Using outlook 2003 I had a crack at writing a vba module to read the pdf form from the email attachment to update into an excel spreadsheet
Is it possible to read pdf forms from the email attachment with outlook vba? Or does the attachment need to be saved to a directory first?
I have in the past done a vba module to save the pdf form attachments to a directory and then using acrobat and it's in-built form data collection tool and exported as a csv, but this feedback form will be an ongoing thing that will be updated daily - and to minimise handling would like to run the outllook macro that reads straight from the email attachment instead of doing another 3 or so steps...
Below is the snippet I am using - it's a mashup of different code I've found on the net

  • Can I  get info about  what Filter a layer  have been set?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to bring up this issue.
I hvae read the photoshop reference guide ,  the ArtLayer Object have many Methods about to set Fillters to layer , like  ApplyClouds ,ApplyBlur.......

  • How Can I detect Underlined Words from a paragraph

I have an application where I have to detect underlined and strikethrough words from a paragraph. I am using Labview 7 Express. Can someone suggest a possible solution ?
    Thanks in Advance

It's probably easier to do it with ActiveX functions if you're on Windows. Attached is an example (LV 7.0) that will find all the underlined portions of a Word document and return them in a string array.
Warning: with ActiveX, the software version is critical, so this may not work for you if you don't have Word 2003.
Any time you want to use ActiveX to get another piece of software to do the work for you, you'll want to use the object model or API reference for that piece of software to figure out how to do it. For Microsoft Word, that means referring to the Microsoft Office Word 2003 VBA Language Reference. It's still a painful process in LabVIEW, but you should be able to do anything you want.

    John

  • Don't see my scanners after installing Elements 11

In the previous versions, I would do a File|Import and then would see my scanners. I would have two options to scan them in, either via the TWAIN driver or WIA support. Now I only see Frame From Video or WIA and WIA takes me to Windows Explorer.
I searched the adobe community and it looks like I might need a TWAIN driver but the links keep pointing me to other links and I cannot find the information in the Photoshop reference manual.
    Andy suggestions would be appreciated.

In PSE 11 the TWAIN driver is included but not installed. To use it,  go to C:\Program Files [Program Files(x86) for 64-bit systems]\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export, find the Adobe TWAIN file, and move it to C:\Program Files [Program Files(x86) for 64-bit systems]\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export (the “en_US” part will be different if you aren’t in the US).

  • Converting/assigning profiles

I've been experimenting with various settings in CS (on a mac OS X) and reading this forum (as well as G Ballard's helpful website). Could someone clear up a few questions for me:
I read on GBallard that I should honor the source file's embedded profile. And that the file's source space should equal PS working space. Also, sRGB is the preferable space for both (am I wrong in that?). My main confusion is in trying to align the file and PS spaces.
-- in PS working space settings, if I choose US Prepress Defaults as recommended, it automatically chooses Adobe RGB for working space. Should I leave it on this setting, or should I change working space RGB to my monitor RGB (which then changes the setting to 'custom')?
-- Then -- what should my source space be? my photo files are tagged Camera RGB. Should I convert these files to the same space setting as the PS (such as sRGB)? I use images on both web and an epson R800.
Basically, I'm really confused about whether I should be changing color profiles at all. I initially started tinkering because my prints were so dark and muddy, and changing profiles seemed to help. (AppleRGB worked best, for some reason) I'm now more or less getting the results that I wanted, but I would really appreciate some guidance, so it doesn't feel so hit and miss.
(I have calibrated my monitor to 2.2 gamma 6500/D65 profile)
    Thank you,
    Keiko

    Keiko,
One question at a time -
"I read on GBallard that I should honor the source file's embedded profile.
Yes. That means that when you open the tagged file (file with an embedded profile) you should have Photoshop either "Preserve the Embedded Profile" or "Convert to Working RGB." You set these in the Color Settings section where you should also check the boxes to have Photoshop prompt you for Profile Mismatches (the profile in the file is different from the Working Space that you have selected for Photoshop) when opening files and pasting and when opening files that have Missing Profiles.
Photoshop is "honoring" the file's profile when it "Preserves" or when it "Converts." In either case, it uses the file's profile to accurately determine the actual colors in the file. The profile lets Photoshop reference the file's RGB values against an "absolute" color space called CIE Lab to arrive at an accurate understanding of the colors.
When it "Preserves" the profile, it writes that profile back into the file when it Saves. When it "Converts" it writes its Working Space Profile into the file. Either way the color will be accurate. But I recommend Converting. That way a "standard color space" profile gets written into the file when you're done editing.
"And that the file's source space should equal PS working space."
No. You're misunderstanding something. The file's source color space is described by its profile. Read the above regarding Preserving or Converting the file's color space when bringing it into PS.
Also, sRGB is the preferable space for both (am I wrong in that?). My main confusion is in trying to align the file and PS spaces. "
No again. The file gets its original color space (created and assigned) by the device creating the file. That color space MAY be sRGB, or it may be some camera's proprietary profile.
But, sRGB is a good space to use as Photoshop's Working Space if you are primarily working on images destined for the Web.
Adobe RGB 1998 is also a good general purpose Working Space, especially if your images are going to be printed on a printing press. You can work in Adobe RGB 1998, then convert to sRGB before Saving for Web.
Working spaces constrain the decisions PS must make in "mapping" (converting) color information from source space (a digital camera) to destination space (monitor, printer). Without Working Spaces, PS would need to give inordinate importance to colors far out of gamut for the destination space, to the detriment of accurate representation of "less exotic," more "important" colors.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER set Photoshop's Working Space to your monitor's profile. You may be able to get things set up so that you get consistent results looking at your images on your monitor, printing to your printer, but no one else will see the colors you "think" your images contain. Use Adobe RGB 1998, sRGB, ProPhoto RGB. These are all Device Independent spaces. Your monitor profile (color space) is unique to your monitor (Device Dependent).
"-- Then -- what should my source space be?"
Your Source Space is whatever profile your digital camera embeds in the file when it creates it.
"my photo files are tagged Camera RGB."
    That's right.
"Should I convert these files to the same space setting as the PS (such as sRGB)?
    Yes. See above.
"I use images on both web and an epson R800."
When you Save for Web you need to make sure you save the Web jpeg file in sRGB space, that is, Convert to sRGB as part of your workflow in Saving for Web. (You also should embed the sRGB profile in it. But the reality is that Web browsers, whether they understand ICC profiles or not, assume files are in sRGB space, whether they have an sRGB profile or not, and act accordingly on them)
If your PS Working Space is sRGB and you Convert files you bring into Photoshop to sRGB on opening, then no further conversion is needed before Saving for Web.
Whatever your PS working space, you will print to your Epson 800 through your Epson 800 ICC Printing Profile (either supplied as a "canned" profile from Epson, or a custom profile that you have generated or paid for through a profiling service). You let PS manage the color conversion involved in translating from its Working Space to the printer's Destination Space by selecting "Let Photoshop Determine Colors" under "File/Print With Preview/Color Management/Options.
That's a lot of information. Please read it several times. But don't hesitate to ask if something doesn't seem to click.

  • How to load NI DAQ MX in Powershell?

(I hope this is the right forum to ask this question.)
I wish to load the NI DAQmx feature set in Microsoft Powershell. I am on Windows 7. I cannot find any samples show to do this.
I believe I have everything installed. I also have some Excel files that load NIDAQmx.tlb and properly run the device attached to me PC. The Excel files have VBA code (written by someone else) that inject current and voltage to an attached device. Excel's VBA project references load C:\Windows\SysWOW64\NIDAQmx.tlb (and also C:\Program Files (x86)\NationalInstruments\Shared\TDM Excel Add-In\ExcelTDM.dll).
Since the Excel files run properly, I assume I have everything installed I might need to use NIDAQ MX in Powershell. However I am stymied how proceed. I would like to replace what the Excel file plus is VBA code do and do it in Powershell code.
Any advice or samples how to get NI DAQ MX features loaded in Powershell would be of great benefit.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Thanks for the replies.
I didn't know where to post the original questions which is why I guessed here might be good.
    >>How is this question in any way related to Measurement Studio for .NET ?
So if there is a better place, let me know and I will move it.
I would like write Powershell scripts that run the NI DAQ MX functionality using Powershell (so I am running from the command line) to minimize (or eliminate) use of a UI.
I'm at a loss how to get started with Powershell and NI DAQ MX. I know, for example, if one is writing an application in in C this situation, the first thing one does in the code is load NIDAQMX.LIB and also one includes NIDAQMX.H. Well, the .H file is inappropriate in Powershell for sure. And loading .LIB files does not go well. So, what to do, since there is no NIDAQMX.DLL ?
I mentioned the Excel file with macros that I obtained which loads NIDAQMX.TLB. Loading the objects in a TLB file Powershell is possible, the TLB needs to be "registered". I was able to register NIDAQMX.TLB (after installing WIndows Update KB2640696). However, even after registring I could not load its objects.
So I am looking for a sample from someone who might have gotten this to work.
Thanks for your help or any advice.

  • Excel query/macro , delete records where the aggregate value is not over 100

I have a spreadsheet with about 5000 records. I need to delete out the records where the Amount column is less than $10.00 unless the aggregate of the amount column is greater than or equal to $100. I have an ID column that matches to the name on the record.
So is it possible to create something that for each ID number in the ID column if the Amount column is less than $10 delete it unless the same ID appears again and is greater than $100? TIA

    HI mkozz28,
    >> I need to delete out the records where the Amount column is less than $10.00 unless the aggregate of the amount column is greater than or equal to $100.
In my option, you could sort the data by column ID, then loop through the column Amount, if the value of the Amount is less than 10, then find the cell according the same ID, if the Amout is less than 100, delete the enterRow.

  • Quickly increase or decrease UI brightness?

Page 59 in the Photoshop reference, which is available for download in the Adobe Help section, states that the UI brightness can be quickly increased or decreased by pressing Shift + 1 and Shift + 2 respectively.
These keyboard shortcuts look useful enough, but when I use them in Photoshop CC the UI brightness remains the same. While using the shortcuts, I tried turning the Num Lock on and off and using the ten keys as well with no luck.
If anyone has succeeded in changing UI brightness using keyboards shortcuts, please post what keys are used.
    Thank you in advance,
    Ead

I have no idea what had been barring me from using these shortcuts, but they work now!…
On my Mac keyboard, I have to toggle the behavior of the Function Keys by pressing the fn-key (which I'm guessing in Windows would be the Windows-key — but I'm just speculating).

  • Increase DPI on retina

I've recently switched from a 13" MBA to a 13" MBP with retina display and I'm sad to see that I now have much less screen real-estate - where I used to have 1440 physical and logical vertical pixels I now effectively have 1280. UI elements appear quite large, side panels take up a large part of the screen, and websites are shown much like they were in 1999...
It all comes from OSX scaling the UI at 2:1. I've heard talk about OSX becoming pixel-independent meaning it should be able to scale freely. What I'd like to do, then, is scale things at 1.7:1 or something in that neighborhood and get my space back.
I've tried using Quartz Debug but it no longer does anything in this regard. Any suggestions? Thanks!

From Jörg, the creator of Eye-Friendly:
Photoshop obviously refers to pixels instead of points to display images - which I think is appropriate. On a retina screen 4 pixels in square make up a point.
Setting your RMBP 13" to 1440x900 points HiDPI means that it will use 2880x1800 pixels to display anything. Therefore, an image of pixel size 2560x1600 of course will appear smaller than the screen (Photoshop references pixels instead of points).
Since 2880x1800 pixels is higher than your native resolution, OS X tries to match it best with your native 2560x1600 resolution.
He captures the problem perfectly, I think.
What disappoints me is the fact that "on a retina screen, 4 pixels make up a point" - meaning a completely static 200% scaling of the UI.
The original plan for OS X was to make it resolution independent. That would make it possible to scale things fluidly - for instance at 175% - just like when you change the size of the dock, actually. But I believe it turned out to be too much work converting everything to vector, so sadly they took a shortcut and simply doubled everything...
On Windows it is possible to change the DPI fluidly, but it only gives good results for some parts of the UI.
