Verizon Mi Fi Fivespot -  problems?

Recent purchase of Verizon Fivespot (Mi Fi modem) to use with iPad and ITouch has been a disaster.
Very difficult setup procedure. Once connection to iPad is made, the unit will not deliver a Wi Fi signal -
so you cannot access the web.
Verizon denies that there is any technical/software problem. The warranty runs out (30-60 days) and user/client is stuck with a malfunctioning unit. Meanwhile, Verizon continues to charge ongoing data fees. Have searched the web and other users have had similar problems but no remedies are forthcoming. Hope that similar problems do not arise with new Apple/Verizon iPad-3G.
Have iPad users had similar difficulties with FiveSpot? Any solutions?

I just experienced a similar problem when trying to connect my MacBook Pro via a Fivespot that my mother has not been able to get working as a hotspot since Oct. Works fine when connected via USB but not wireless. You can connect to the device, but the device will not connect to the network.
The issue turned out to be a config problem in the Fivespot settings. Go to http://192.168.0.1 (assuming you haven't changed this) and on the WAN SETTINGS tab and make sure the NETWORK SELECT is set to GLOBAL. Then got to the WAN CONNECTION MODE tab and make sure you have the corresponding AUTOCONNECT (GLOBAL/ACCESS MODE) selected. In my case, one was set to global and the other was not.

I finally figured it out.  Needed to update her Airport firmware and allow guest access, and also changed Sharing preferences to Allow Access for All Users.

  • Contact Verizon with a Fivespot

I have a Fivespot and have difficulties each time I want to contact Verizon for any reason. The only way Verizon allows a user to connect is by typing the wireless number, however those of us who have a Fivespot we do not remember the wireless number because the device is only for data and it does not have an screen to get text messages either. Verizon would only reset password by sending a text message to the wireless device, but what about those of us who have a Fivespot without a screen to see the text? If you call customer service the only option is to input the wireless number, what about offering the account number? The bill shows the account number but not the phone number? What is the rationale behind this system? Does any one else owning a Fivespot have the same problem communicating with Customer Service?

Great question! Our automated system only recognizes a 10 digit mobile number, but when you call in we can look up your account by your account number, social security number, first and last name, etc. You can also view your mobile number on your bill if you have it when you call. When you say reset the password, are you referring to your My Verizon account online? If so you can connect the Fivespot to the computer thru the USB cable, and get the text message thru VZ Access Manager.

  • Email from Verizon re: recent technical problems

I got an email from Verizon suggesting that I could have solved my recent problem by going online.  Hello...if someone other than a robot was sending out those emails, he,she would have realized that my problem was that ALL MY SERVICES WERE OUT...HENCE, NO EMAIL OR INTERNET.
Perhaps you could screen your email replies with a little personal touch?  It is very difficult to find a way to contact you other than through the online robot help, which in my experience is useless.
How about some more people to people contact without going through the irritating robot too?

Under myVerizon Account profile I do see this indicator [email protected] [Email validated on 6/19/2012] (this is my primary and no sub accounts). I did change all my passwords ;as I do on a regular basis and I always use strong one. thaknks for your replies

  • Verizon iPhone 6 Signal Problem

I have an iPhone 6 64gb on Verizon Wireless. I have noticed a problem with my cell signal/reception. In an area where I have 5 bars in LTE, it will seemingly drop to 2 at random. Then, if I make a call, the bars will come back up to 5 after the call is complete. It will do this multiple times throughout the day. The other day I had 5 bars in LTE and tried to make a phone call. When I did, the phone dropped to 1 bar and I got multiple 'call failed' messages trying to complete the call. After I hung up, the bars would go back up to 5 in LTE. A couple of days ago, I had full bars in LTE but could not do anything with data. I had to shut my phone off and restart to get the data to work again. Is anyone else having this or a similar issue?

Hey, similar problem here from day 1 on my 64gb iphone 6 (received Friday the 19th). I can only maintain 2 or 3 bars, never a full LTE signal in areas where I usually had full. I went through the whole troubleshooting process; network reset, erasing all data & resetting, went to the Verizon store for a replacement SIM card (in case it was faulty), none of which resolved the issue. A power on/off cycle or network reset does return my LTE signal to full 5 bars but within seconds to minutes they're back to a low signal, hence less battery life from signal drain.
OP- the reason you get full bars on a call but they go back down after it ends is because you might have "enabled data only" in cellular settings. Which means on voice calls you use 3G service (full bars) and when you hang up it returns to the poor LTE signal. I experienced this firsthand, regardless I still believe I have a defective iPhone 6.
Solution- Spoke and went through the whole Verizon wireless tech process to ensure it was in fact defective, so I can qualify for the 14 day return/exchange period. Now because the iPhone's are on backorder, past the exchange period (silver 64gb ships by 10/17), my VW tech/rep had to "verify" and notate into the claim that I'd still qualify for the exchange. So it turned out like this; had to order a new replacement 64gb iPhone 6 through the tech/rep at full price (to be reimbursed after a billing cycle), get a verification text sent to me of the time & date noting the exchange being honored, and so when I recieve my new replacement iPhone, I can send my defective one back rather than send the defect back now and be phone-less for the next month.
At first I thought fedex or Verizon had damaged my iPhone in shipping (the box & packaging was horrible & shoddy upon arrival but I just thought I was being too critical). So yea.. I think more or less, a few of us are in the same boat. Hope that helps everyone.

If you go into your Email Settings,
    Go into Services..
    Click on Send Service Books.
That should do it!  (That's what ended up resolving my issue, after talking to Tech Support at verizon)

  • Verizon Service checkup tool problem

I've got a toshiba satellite l305D with 64bit vista. When I ran the service checkup nothing happened. I clicked on run when the box came up and I also saved it to my desktop then ran it. Not sure what I may have done wrong or what I'm missing.

I have the same problem.  Did you figure anything out?  I have an HP computer running Vista 64 bit.  I have tried run as administrator, run as XP service pack 2 - no effect.

  • Verizon BBU Unit Giving Problems

I had a power outage a couple days ago and the battery to my BBU ran out. I replaced the battery and everything worked fine. Overnight I guess the battery lost its charge or something because the red light indicator came back on telling me to replace the battery again. It was a brand new fully charged battery 12v 7.2h I picked up at home depot. I read some online support page and it said to check the fuses. Anyone know who I can do that, and replace it if they are burnt out. Or do you think Verizon can send someone to my house to repair the unit?

There was a discussion about this not long ago.  you may want to search for it.
    Basically the idea is to:
    1. unplug the 120v power from the BBU.
    2. remove/unplug the battery.
    3. wait 5 minutes.
    4. install/plugin the battery.
    5. plug in the 120v power to the BBU.
     Quoting from another thread:
...I have on several occasions had this condition with my FIOS service BBU, and as noted in the article link below, the resolution may be as simple as unplugging the BBU from the electrical outlet, then opening the battery compartment door to allow access to the battery, then unplug your battery terminal from the BBU so that it is not providing backup power.  Leave the battery disconnected for approx 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it to the BBU and put it back in the slot in the BBU box, then plug the electrical power back in to charge the system.  I have found this will eliminate the red light and audible warning signal, and your battery may continue to function fine for many more months/years....

  • Macbook with Verizon USB720 wireless card problems

I have the Verizon USB720 with a new Macbook. I am able to connect to the internet, but the device often just disconnects from the USB port and drops my connection. It happens sporadically. The green light on the modem goes off and the Verizon Access Manager doesn't "see" the device. I have to unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in for the computer to recognize it.
What might cause this?? I have the latest access manager software.

For starters I would narrow it down and get the card replaced.
Or try it on another computer..mac or PC. If it still doesn't work, then you got your answer.

  • Verizon G'ZOne Commando Problems

I'm on my fourth replacement phone all under factory warranty. One shut its self off after an update and wouldn't turn back on.The first something was wrong with the speaker,The second kept freezing rebooting and dropping calls. I only have  had the Facebook app and maybe 4 songs(songs are on the sd card). I find it funny that when I complained over the phone they said they haven't been reports of other customers experiencing this issue and would not issue a different phone. March can't come fast enough, very rugged phone but too many issues can't wait to upgrade. The refurbished phones seem like their cleaned and then sent back out  you may get rid of one issue but you're going to get 3 new issues.
    Edited as new discussion.

sapperscott88, this is definitely an unfortunate coincidence. Are you downloading the same 3rd party applications on each replacement device that you've recieved? Some application software can affect the performance of your device. It's recommended that you uninstall a few applications and power your device off/on to soft reset it. Keep us posted. Meanwhile, did you know that you can upgrade to a new device at full retail pricing with this option? http://vz.to/1713STl

  • Latest android update shut down my bluetooth connection. I maintain that this is a safety issue.  Verizon Leadership group in SC laughs off the problem?

Android updates have improvements and bugs such as shutting down Bluetooth connection to Mercedes car. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. People will die answering the phone on the highway.  Verizon laughs off the problem.  Has anyone else experienced this and got a satisfactory answer?

  • New computer (windows 7) connection problem with Verizon DSL

I just bought a new computer to replace a dead one.  I took the old one away and plugged the new one into the Verizon cable.  I have Verizon DSL, no wireless, no network at home, just a computer and a Westell modem.
On the new computer, I have a successful internet connection in that I can reach Google.  I can conduct a Google search, but when I click on a search result I cannot reach that site.  I CAN successfully send and receive Gmail.  I CANNOT connect to Verizon's website, Amazon, Washington Post, Ebay, or most other sites.  What happens when I try is a small box comes up in the browser window saying "Connecting to [name of site]" and the in-progress thing goes around and around.  This will go on for as long as I let it (more than 1/2 hour), with no timeout or failure message -- just an empty browser window.  Results are the same in Explorer and Firefox.
I hooked a borrowed computer into my Verizon line and the internet connection works fine to any site I try (I'm on it now).  Verizon techs have also done a line test and it's fine.
I have taken the new computer (running Windows 7) back to the store 3 times.  They have hooked it into an Earthlink DSL line there and have shown me they have no difficulty whatsoever going to any of the sites that are not working for me at home.  They say the problem MUST be something to do with my Verizon connection.
I've called Verizon tech support 3 times now.  They say it's not them, and there's nothing they can do -- but their Remote Assistant software isn't able to connect IN to my machine, just as I can't connect OUT to the Verizon site.  I have asked for a more up-to-date modem and was refused.
I was tempted to just upgrade to FIOS but Verizon is being so unhelpful I am ready to bail on Verizon entirely.  Before I do, can anyone suggest what might be going on here?

I bought an HP computer at Staples and had the same problem.  HP and Verizon could find no problems.  Verizon said the would send me a new modem to see if that fixed the problem. The problem was corrected after Verizon sent me a new modem for free.

  • Problems with Customer Service AND unexplained charges!

I've been with Verizon for I-don't-know-how-many years, and through the years you are bound to have a few problems here and there but some of the problems are just ridiculous! It's also the same reocurring problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was with Alltel first, before it was bought out by Verizon. The years I was with Alltel, I didn't have near as many problems. It seems EVERY time I do the smallest change or something to my phone or bill, I get a ridiculous amount of charges that I was NOT aware of, nor told about... EVEN IF I ask "So this isn't going to change my bill, or there will not be any unexpected/unexplained charges that I don't know about?"... BUT not matter how many times I ask... and NO matter how many times I am told "no"... there always is. For example.... last year, I updated and signed a new 2 year contract and purchased the first Driod. Before, my 30 day warranty was up, I was having problems with my Driod, and decided to send it in and get a new one. Before I did this.. I called customer service to make sure there would be no interuption in my bill, and there wouldn't be any unexpect charges, and there would be no difference in anything. I was told there was not, and once I recieved my new phone, just send it in and nothing would be changed. Of course, when I get my bill.. I see I was charged $500 for the new phone. It was explained to me that my credit card was reimbursed (which I never check that card, because I never used it expect to purchase the phone) and that I was recharged for the new phone, since it was a new phone. So I had to fork out the $500 (on top of my bill) and then wait months to get the $100 rebate card. Months after that, I "assumed liablity of my line" because I was on a plan with my family. I decided to have my own line, so I "assumed liability." I was not told that when I did that, I "renewed" my contract date. So I just added 6 more months to my 2 year contract. Was NOT told about that! Then again...... I was recently having problems with my Driod (the screen went black and would not come back on.) I had to turn on an OLD motorola razor, so I would not be without a phone for two days while I was waiting on my phone to come in. As soon as my phone came in, I had my Droid turned back on. I recieved my bill recently, and my bill was $200 over what it normally should be.... so I called in... apparently, when I had my phone replaced, they dropped off my data package and when I recieved my replacement driod, they never put it back on. So I was being charged for alllll my data usage... again I was NOT told about this. I wasn't even aware that they had dropped off my data package, and when/where did they get the authority to do that??? These are just a FEW of the problems that I have had.................................
Does anyone have these reoccuring problems!?

I understand that my bill can be viewed online, and I do view it fairly regularly, so if there are any unexplained charges, I can call Verizon asap. The problem does not come from me not understanding my bill, but from customer service. I have been with Verizon for a very long time, and it is a continuing problem. Where did Verizon get the 'OK' to drop my data package off my plan? Who authorized that?
After calling Verizon and trying to find out the problem, the gentleman told me that when I activated on old phone while I was waiting on my new Droid to arrive, my data package was dropped off and I "should" have been told about that. When I reactiviated my new Droid, I "should" have called and had them restart my data package. I was not aware that when you activate an old phone that data plan is taken off your plan. In all my years of having cell phones, I never make two years with one phone. I have always, at one point, had to turn on an old phone, and my data package has NEVER changed. Why would I have my data package dropped and why would I have to call Verizon to have it restarted. I would never know to do that unless I was TOLD that my data packaged HAD to be re-added when I recieved my new phone, but I was never told of that.
All of that is beside the point, the point is, Verizon was never given the authorization to change my plan. Never. My bill was taken care of and readjusted, and I am thankful for that. It does not change the fact it is always a hassle with Verizon Customer Service and I am always the one having to PROVE that I am not at fault, or that I was NEVER told of certian things. EVERY TIME I HAVE CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE, I AM TOLD "I'M SORRY, THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THAT."
"they should" does not help my bill with the extra armount of charges.

  • How can I get Verizon to LEAVE ME ALONE!

I set my FiOS router to use WEP.
I get that WPA2 is more secure.  I do not care.  Seriously.  Couldn't care less.
I have my reasons, and that should be enough.
And yet, I continue to receive emails and now voicemails from Verizon (big brother) to let me know that I'm not secure enough for their tastes, and that I should re-configure my Actiontec router to use WPA2.
I will not comply.  Ever.  The more they push, the more I'm inclined to set it to OPEN, just out of spite.  But that would probably encourage a further round of harrassment from 'the system' to let me know that it's not secure enough.
I did the on-line tech support chat thing with two different people (in India?), who then transferred me to some poor girl in billing, since apparently billing is responsible for ALL customer communications.  After wasting even more time with her, the only offered suggestion is to turn off ALL notifications.  Promotional notifications.  Sign...
Is there *anyone* there at Verizon who is empowered to turn off the big brother calls and emails?  I wish to NEVER hear anything else from Verizon that my WIFI security isn't stringent enough.  Never.
I live in the country.  There is nobody sitting outside my house trying to crack the WEP key.  Why, I haven't seen an NSA surveillance van for at least a month.
Can anyone help, or am I doomed to monthly communications from Verizon about this?

    StevieP65 wrote:

I seem to be doomed to frequent mailings from Verizon telling me about bargain prices, none of which I'm eligible for.  I wish Verizon would stop wasting money on sending ads through the mail to people who those ads don't apply to.
But the way I look at things is if getting a wasted mailing from Verizon is the worst problem I have today....it's been a good day!
I suggest you adopt the same outlook.  Just shrug the messages off and forget about them.
