Vernier labpro VIs designed for labview 6.1/7.0 using them in labview 8.5

Hi
I have downloaded the labpro toolkit and mass compiled them in labview 8.5.I wanted to store the vernier sensor data using labview, however the analog data collection VIs are for Labview 6.1/7.0.
The computer restarted and labview stuck when I tried to use the VIs.
How can I read data and save/store it for further analyses?
What should I do?
Is there any compatible VIs that will run without any problem , should I download patches or any labview version?Does vernier have a solution?
I am looking forward to hearing from U.
Thanks

I looked at the drivers from their web site and the code structure (as you would expect) pretty much sucks and the serial io routines need to be updated to get
rid of all the compatability VIs, but right off hand I don't see
anything too dire. The one exception is that if you are using the USB
interface access is through a DLL that they wrote - that could be a big
problem. A lot has changed since 2003.
How are you interfaced to the device? USB or Serial? What OS are you running? Did I understand you to say that the computer crashed? What do you mean by LV "stuck"?

    Correct. Gift cards can only be purchased and redeemed in the country of origin. Given that it's the holidays you might consider gifting them to a needy child in your church.

  • How do I get an adapter for a laptop and iPhone to use them in New Zealand and Australia?

    How do I gwet an adapter for a laptop and Iphone to use in New Zealand and Australia?

    For the iPhone the regular power adapter will work worldwide. All you need is a plug aapter. 99% of all laptop power packs are also universal. (All Apple laptops certainly are). Look at the label. If it says 120-240 volts, 50/60 Hz it will work anywhere in the world. Again, all you need is a converter for the prongs on the plug.

  • A good design for a single thread pool manager using java.util.concurrent

    Hi,
    I am developing a client side project which in distinct subparts will execute some tasks in parallel.
    So, just to be logorroic, something like that:
    program\
                \--flow A\
                           \task A1
                           \task A2
                \--flow B\
                            \task B1
                            \task B2
                            \...I would like both flow A and flow B (and all their launched sub tasks) to be executed by the same thread pool, because I want to set a fixed amount of threads that my program can globally run.
    My idea would be something like:
    public class ThreadPoolManager {
        private static ExecutorService executor;
        private static final Object classLock = ThreadPoolManager.class;
         * Returns the single instance of the ExecutorService by means of
         * lazy-initialization
         * @return the single instance of ThreadPoolManager
        public static ExecutorService getExecutorService() {
            synchronized (classLock) {
                if (executor != null) {
                    return executor;
                } else {
                    // TODO: put the dimension of the FixedThreadPool in a property
                    executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(50);
                return executor;
         * Private constructor: deny creating a new object
        private ThreadPoolManager() {
    }The tasks I have to execute will be of type Callable, since I expect some results, so you see an ExecutorService interface above.
    The flaws with this design is that I don't prevent the use (for example) of executor.shutdownNow(), which would cause problems.
    The alternative solution I have in mind would be something like having ThreadPoolManager to be a Singleton which implements ExecutorService, implementing all the methods with Delegation to an ExecutorService object created when the ThreadPoolManager object is instantiated for the first time and returned to client:
    public class ThreadPoolManager implements ExecutorService {
        private static ThreadPoolManager pool;
        private static final Object classLock = ThreadPoolManager.class;
        private ExecutorService executor;
         * Returns the single instance of the ThreadPoolManager by means of
         * lazy-initialization
         * @return the single instance of ThreadPoolManager
        public static ExecutorService getThreadPoolManager() {
            synchronized (classLock) {
                if (pool !=null) {
                    return pool;
                } else {
                    // create the real thread pool
                    // TODO: put the dimension of the FixedThreadPool in a property
                    // file
                    pool = new ThreadPoolManager();
                    pool.executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(50);
                    // executor = Executors.newCachedThreadPool();
                    return pool;
         * Private constructor: deny creating a new object
        private ThreadPoolManager() {
        /* ======================================== */
        /* implement ExecutorService interface methods via delegation to executor
         * (forbidden method calls, like shutdownNow() , will be "ignored")
          // .....I hope to have expressed all the things, and hope to receive an answer that clarifies my doubts or gives me an hint for an alternative solution or an already made solution.
    ciao
    Alessio

    Two things. Firstly, it's better to use     private static final Object classLock = new Object();because that saves you worrying about whether any other code synchronises on it. Secondly, if you do decide to go for the delegation route then java.lang.reflect.Proxy may be a good way forward.

  • How can I  make my own design for a web page instead of using a template?

    rapcom wrote:

    Yes — it's done via iWeb Inspector's Page tab (the second one at the top), editing the values in the +Page Size+ fields. After entering a new value, click the Return key to make it take effect...
    ..By the way, the above image is taken from a tutorial ~ click on the image above to read the tutorial.

    Yes, it's possible. But it's difficult to know what exact difficulty you're having, and I perhaps risk stating the obvious... One thing to be aware of is that clicking once inside a text box will simply select that box (you'll see eight +"grab handles"+ for re-sizing). But to edit the text inside, you need to click once more. Experiment with clicking inside and outside text boxes and you'll learn.
    And iWeb's Help menu has several resources ~ the Help viewer, a +Getting Started+ PDF and a link to ten video tutorials. One of the videos briefly demonstrates adding a text box towards the end; click here...
    If after the above you still need help, post back with step-by-step details of the problem.

  • What are the mapfiles for and when should I use them?

    Hi,
    what are the map files for and why/when should I use them?
    /usr/lib/ld/map.noexstk
    usr/lib/ld/map.noexbss
    /usr/lib/ld/map.noexdata
    /usr/lib/ld/map.pagealign

    Hi, I'm sure you've read the comments, but for the benefit of those who haven't: /usr/lib/ld/map.noexstk # Linker mapfile to create a non-executable stack definition within an # executable. /usr/lib/ld/map.noexbss # Link-editor mapfile to create a non-executable bss segment definition # within an executable. /usr/lib/ld/map.noexdata # Link-editor mapfile to create a non-executable data segment definition # within an executable. These stop the various segments from being executable. Which could reduce the risk surface for exploiting security holes in an application. /usr/lib/ld/map.pagealign # Linker mapfile to create page-aligned data within an executable. Aligning the start of the data segment can reduce the number of TLB entries needed to map the data. So the smallest TLB page size is 8KB, then we have 64KB, then 4MB etc. If the data starts on a 4MB boundary then it can be mapped with 4MB pages, if not then it has to be mapped with 8KB pages until a 64KB boundary, then 64KB pages until we get to a 4MB boundary. You sometimes get a bit of performance from this, but you may also get performance stability from it. If the mapping is random sometimes it works well, sometimes it works less well. Regards, Darryl.

  • How do I create Labview VISA ports for *individual* GPIB instruments using Prologix USB GPIB controller?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use a Prologix USB GPIB controller to control GPIB
    instruments, and I would like to have a virtual serial (VISA) port for
    *each instrument*, as is the case with a normal GPIB controller with a
    standard NI driver. However this is not what the Prologix driver
    provides -- it provides a single VISA virtual serial port for the
    entire controller. To address the instrument with GPIB address 11,
    you first send "++addr 11" to the serial port, and then you're talking
    to instrument 11. However, this means I have to change all old
    Labview programs.
    Is it possible to create a "wrapper" function of some kind that will
    define a virtual serial (VISA) port for each *instrument* on the
    controller? For example, to talk to GPIB instrument 11, call it
    ASRL3::11::INSTR, each time it is written to it would have to write to
    the virtual serial port of the controller, say ASRL3::INSTR, first "+
    +addr 11" and then the command that is sent to it.
    A clearer explanation of the difference (i.e. incompatibility), and of
    my objective:
    1) A normal GPIB controller with NI driver: I go to the NI
    Measurement & Instrumentation Panel, under GPIB, and Scan for
    Instruments; all the live instruments show up; subsequently when I
    want to use Labview programs that use VISA ports, the VISA drop boxes
    allow me to choose a different port for each instrument, e.g.
    "GPIB0::11::INSTR", "GPIB0::12::INSTR" would be instruments at
    addresses GPIB 11 and GPIB 12.
    2) The Prologix GPIB controller that plugs into a USB port: In
    Labview you get a *single* VISA virtual serial port, ASRL3::INSTR, for
    the entire GPIB0 controller. Therefore to address GPIB instrument 11,
    you write "++addr 11" to the virtual serial port ASRL3::INSTR, and
    then you are communicating with device 11, so you can write and read
    ASRL3::INSTR to talk to that device. Then to talk to device GPIB 12,
    you write "++addr 12" to the same VISA port, and then you are talking
    to that device. The problem is that this requires recoding all
    Labview code, whereas I would like to be able to use the same program
    either with a normal or with a Prologix GPIB controller. Therefore, I
    would like to create code that scans the controller for all GPIB
    attached devices and creates VISA ports for all. Such ports, when
    written to, would have to first write "++addr DEVICENUM" to
    ASRL3::INSTR (i.e. the port of the GPIB-USB controller) where
    DEVICENUM is the GPIB address of the instrument corresponding to that
    port, and then would have to do a write or read or whatever function
    is being done on that instrument VISA port.
    I haven't figured out if it is possible to do this easily. Help and
    pointers on where to look for hints would be much appreciated. Many
    thanks!
    Milos

    My first impression is that if you don't want to make any changes at all to existing programs is that the wrapper you need is one around VISA. You would need to intercept all of the calls into the NI VISA driver. If you create your own visa32.dll and in there, change the addressing and then call the real VISA driver, you might (repeat, might) get something to work. If this would even work, you still might find that you have to make significant changes anyway. The serial connection is going to be considerably slower, and interface specific functions such as service request handling, bus triggering of multiple instruments, etc., would be difficult to impossible. This would be a lot of work, imho, to just save a couple of hundred dollars over a real GPIB controller. I've seen this Prologix device before and have even used NI's RS-232->GPIB controller. The Prologix intended use to me seems to me more for a hobbyist or very casual user. Of course, I'm used to having multiple GPIB instruments worth 10s/100s of thousands of dollars and the cost of an fully compliant GPIB controller is just lost in the noise.

  • Best method for state machine design for multi-dimensional clustered data

    I have an application that is collecting analog tag data(1000 points) and displaying on a graph. In each vi, I may collect data for as many as 32 channels, but only one channel at a time. Usually this is collected in numeric order, but maybe not all the time. I am also saving an "expected profile" to a file for each channel. I display both expected and actual data on the graph and select which channel to view with a ring control. My question is about how to design the state machine for best memory usage/execution speed/... If I use a shift register with a cluster datatype, that holds both 1000 point arrays, some statistical data like max/min/pass/fail/test limits for 32 channels, won't all of the u
    nbundle/bundle functions use a ton of memory??? Right now I am writing the cluster data to memory tags for each channel. I use the ring control to determine which tag to read. I have the tags grouped by channel into several groups for actual data, expected data, results data,... What design methods would provide the best function using a shift register/queues and notifiers/memory tags in the tag engine?? I also use CITADEL to read the max and average as a trend display on each channel and to select a specific 1000 point dataset to view if the max and average are out of limits. Does anyone have similar applications??

    It sounds as if you will be working with alot of data here so I can understand your concerns for memory management. If you were to unbundle and bundle data in your application, you are correct in saying that it will require more memory. It is somewhat difficult to get the overall picture of what you are needing to set up, but from what I can gather, it sounds as if you could have an array of 32 elements; each element a cluster of your data as well as the statistical data, and then you could index through that array to determine what to display on the graph. The shift registers will be reusing the same memory over and over so there should not be a problem there. Queues wouldn't necessarily help you in any way in this situation. Depending on how many memory tag
    s you are using, you could increase the amount of memory usage required by Citadel and the tag engine, but if you are needing to write your cluster data to the database, then there is not much you can do about it. Ultimately it sounds like a pretty involved application and will require a fair amount of memory regardless to ensure smooth functionality.
    In general, questions about the LabVIEW architecture and memory management are typically better answered if they are posted to the general LabVIEW discussion forum area. But I hope that this has addressed some of your concerns. Have a good day.

  • Test stand design for high speed brushless dc servo motor efficiency testing

    We are in the process of designing two test stands around the brushless dc servo motor in the attached specifications.  The first we would like to operate using Labview and a PXI-7352 controller.  The second will be a real time configuration.  The motor will need to run in the 25-50,000 RPM range.  We want to bring the hall sensors back to the controller and do PID and other control there.  The sinusoidal commutation from the controller would then go to an as yet unselected servo amplifier.  When the motor is under test we want to be able to measure accurately the power that is being used by the motor - not the motor and controller / amplifier.
    Can the PXI-7353 handle this motor speed range?
    Will Labview and the PID toolkit be sufficient software to program the first test stand?
    Any example VI's available for this approach (I could not locate any)?
    What is the appropriate controller for a real time system?
    What is the best way to instrument the motor to determine power required at a given test point?
    Any suggestion on a servo amplifier?
    Thanks in advance,

    Mr. Zaatari,
    As you will note, there are six questions posted above.  As you also know, I have been waiting for your response for 5 days and decided to use this alternate method in hope of getting my questions answered.  As you further know you have not answered these questions.   It is a shame that you will  not post your "answers" here so that the rest of this wonderful NI community might have the benefit of your knowledge as well.

    Oracle Real Application Clusters, Concepts manual, Release 9.2.

    Hi all,
    I am very new to Labview, but I have to deal with somewhat difficult problem of remotely controlling the Laser in next room. The PC I will be using has already built labview software to control the laser if laser is closeby. But the laser is next door (~200-300 feet), and the PC which controls the laser also have the labview software to control the laser. Please suggest me how should I start communicating from my first PC to the laser (may be using the laser labview software or not). To start with I would be glad to find some reads or demonstrative examples or any suggestion which will head me to right direction.
    I hope for great help.

    It would probably be a good idea to start a new message on this rather than continue in this message thread.  It seems to be a different situation you are asking about then what the original poster was doing.
    How does the PC communicate with the laser if it is close by?  Is it a serial connection? ethernet connection?  GPIB?  something else.  If it is serial, is it RS-232, RS-485, USB?   200-300 feet is too far for an RS-232 or USB connection.  But there are numerous products on the market that will adapt those serial protocols to either an RS-485 wiring setup, or put it out over an ethernet connection.  So you can go RS-232 to RS-485 on one end.  RS-485 goes to 4000 feet (depending on baud rate).  Then on the other end another adapter converts it back to RS-232.  I have also used a remote USB hub that connects to a LAN connection, and with driver software installed on the PC, it turns that remote connection into virtual serial port connections.
    These are good devices that have worked for me.  But if they would work for you all depends on how the PC connects to the laser now.

  • How to migrate VIs to LabVIEW 8.0 (do not use Save As Duplicate Hierarchy!)

    As with any move to a new version, you should make backup copies of your VIs before saving them in LabVIEW 8.0.
    Warning: There is a feature in LabVIEW 8.0 that saves an entire hierarchy (File>>Save As>>Duplicate Hierarchy) but it does NOT work for opening VIs from a previous version and saving copies for 8.0.
    Duplicate Hierarchy will save the original VIs before making a copy. It is useful for distributing a copy of your 8.0 VIs, but it does not work for migrating VIs to 8.0.
    To migrate VIs, make copies on disk or use "Save with Options" in your previous version of LabVIEW. "Save with Options" does not exist in LabVIEW 8.0.

    "Mobile optimized" sites will probably soon be a thing of the past. They were made to avoid problems with ultra tiny screens and very slow connections (remember GPRS?).
    A typical mobile device now runs on 3G or even 4D and the screens are sometimes 800x640 or higher.
    My android G1 phone is over 2 years old, and I still typically prefer the full site. I'll probably upgrade in a few weeks and will at least double the screen resolution. I'll stick with the regular site.
