Version updates on local packages
In the near future I plan to install Arch Linux as my main distro. Currently I'm using Gentoo, which gives me a great deal of flexibility when it comes to modifying a build to your own needs. I understand this is also possible with ABS.
There's one issue I couldn't find anything about. How about updates if you installed a modified package which ended up in the 'local' repository?
For instance, if I pick the PKGBUILD for Qt 4.4.3, make some modifications and install it with 'pacman -U', it will end up in 'local' (at least that's how Shaman calls it). But what if Qt 4.4.4 is released, and Qt's PKGBUILD in the ABS tree will be updated accordingly? Will I see this update, despite that I'm not using the version from the 'extra' repository anymore? Or is there an easy way to check my modified PKGBUILDs whether they are outdated or not?
Welcome to the forums bram85.
This is some good reading as how to have custom packages in Arch without things being overwritten by pacman. Notice the pkgname, conflicts, provides, and replaces lines in particular:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arc … guidelines
I know that this is for version controlled packages, but the logic is the same. You also may want to take a look at KDEmod's PKGBUILD files. Since you mentioned QT, see what they did for qt-enhanced.

Is there a way to create a local package repository
Is there a way to create a local package repository without technically being a mirror. For example, setting up multiple AL box's on my network and having them grab all the latest packages from one AL box?
Thanks,
CraigWhat you most likely want is an ABS tree of your own, containing only the PKGBUILDs of those packages which you want to be included in your repository.
You should already have heard of the gensync program. In short, the parameters are the root of PKGBUILDs, sorted in subdirectories (ie. like the ABS tree), the intented name and location of the repository database file, and the directory containing the binary packages.
Let's assume you downloaded the current ABS tree to your hard drive, as well as all matching (same version as in the PKGBUILDs!) packages from a mirror, but you don't want the reiserfsprogs package in your repository. To achieve that, you must remove the /var/abs/base/reiserfsprogs directory, and may optionally remove the binary package, too. Since gensync analyzes the ABS tree you supplied as a parameter, removing the subdirectory of a specific package will cause this very package to not be included in the generated database. Assuming your packages lie in /home/arch/i686/current, your gensync call would look like this:
gensync /var/abs /home/arch/i686/current/current.db.tar.gz /home/arch/i686/current
If there are any discrepancies like
- PKGBUILD, but no matching binary package found
- PKGBUILD and binary package versions do not match
- permission problems (writing the db file must be possible)
gensync will gladly complain.
Otherwise you should find the db file in the place you specified. Keep in mind that the name of the db.tar.gz file must be equal to the repository tag in the pacman.conf to use the repo.
To make sure the db contains the right packages; use
tar -tzf current.db.tar.gz | less
to list the contents. Every package has it's own subdirectory including the metadata, which is rather obvious considering the file's generated from such a structure in the first place.
The binary packages along with a correctly generated db file are all you need. Make the repository directory containing these files available through FTP if local availability doesn't cut it for you, edit your pacman.conf if needed, and use it!
Adding packages works similar; All you need to have is the PKGBUILD in an ABS-like tree (it doesn't have to be the official tree; gensync doesn't care where the files come from. Just stick to one subdirectory per PKGBUILD, and you'll be fine), and the matching packages somewhere else, run gensync with the appropriate directories, and cackle with glee.

Solaris 11 IPS: How do you post multiple versions of the same package?
How do you post multiple versions of the same software package on a single IPS instance(port)? Oracle was able to do it here with versions 151 and 175 of S11:
http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/
Unfortunately, based on my searches, no where in the documentation (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/technologies/ips-323421.html) does it explain to the development community how this is done. The best I can do is create pkg repo instances on different ports to host each different software version.
We are trying to deploy an IPS repository for our drivers and utilities that our customers can link to and pull updates from. We have been able to post a software package to the repository using the command:
pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 -d ./ Appv1.p5m
This posts the package on the IPS repository instance at port 1234 on the server. However, we would like to post multiple versions of the package on the server at the same URL. Why the same URL? So that our customers and end-users need only point to a single URL to pull down our software rather than having to add a new URL to the publisher list each time we have an update. We want at least 5 of the previous software versions to be available on the server. Posting each version of the application or driver on a different IPS instance on a different port will require customers to add multiple URLs to their publisher list and they also will not be able to initiate remote scans for updates.
Has anybody been able to do this? Is any documentation forthcoming?
Edited by: user13489824 on Jun 25, 2012 10:17 AMdhduvall: Thanks for your response. Yes, one would think that as long as the version numbers are different, you should be able to accumulate multiple versions of a package in a repository. It looks like Oracle has done it in their S11 repository unfortunately, as far as I know, they have not shared the steps on how to do this. I would like to publish two versions of the same package. I.E. two different manifests with two different fmri.pkg version strings and two different binaries.
If I publish one package after another like this:
pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv1.p5m
pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv2.p5m
Then only the second package shows up in the repository, as if it over-wrote the first one.
Running pkgsend with two manifest, like this:
pkgsend publish -s http://localhost:1234 Appv1.p5m Appv2.p5m
Will cause pkgsend to combine the packages and manifests as if they were a single package... not what I am trying to do.
Both approaches are complete without errors but neither achieves what I am trying to do.
alan.pae: Thank you. Unfortunately, the link didn't really help. I've read Oracle's white papers and IPS developer guide so I'm familiar with the topics covered.
Lex: Yes, I know. I specified the versions in the pkg.fmri value string. -
Payment Terms not getting updated for local Purch Org Vendor Combination
Hi
I have updated the vendor master with new payment term in EBP. The same got updated for Back End Pucrh Org. But it is not getting updated for local Purch Org. I am using extended classic scenario and have BE and local Purch Org.
I anybody can tell me the solution on how to update payment terms for Vendor with local Purch Org. Thanks
Regards
Vinod RaoraneHi
Which SRM version are you using ?
<u>How you replicated the Vendor master in EBP ? Which transactions or programs you used ?
Have you used BBPGETVD Transaction or any other program ?
And also checked the log of SLG1 transaction. ?
Can you see the updated details in BBPMAINTINT Transaction for that vendor
Any other logs you noticed in SLG1 or ST22 Transaction ?</u>

SDK Trunk. Update my local copy has started asking for username/password
SDK Trunk. Update my local copy has started asking for username/password
these has been happening on and off for a few days now.
when i click update on my local copy of the sdk ready to do my morning build I've started to be asked for a username and password. I do have a username and password for sandbox and patching etc but entering this has no effect.
are there times of day when the trunk is locked or something like that? This is not happening all the time but it is several times a day.
has anyone any idea why this is happening
Ive don e all the usual things, clean my local version, grabbed a totally new version etc
im on windows using TortoiseSVN(which is always using a current build)
cheers
gIve had this same issue on and off across all the open source svn
im yet to find any pattern apart from the fact that the auth error only ever shows the root of the svn request.
Ie http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/
Now im not sure if thats just the way the reporting ui works of if it indicates that somewhere in the update it starts to trigger the url rot and thats where the auth request gets triggered. This may be total nonsense. Just a thought. -

Error updating user-locale to US
Using CME 3.3.

However it does show XMLDefault7912.cnf.xml with 786 bytes and crashinfo_20020301-022926 with 198274 bytes
crashinfo_20020301-022926 is full of entries with each entry having a date of 10:00:42 GMT Fri Mar 1 2002 (which is the date the router was before I updated via clock set command)

Jakpak - compare your local packages with ARM packages.
I have decided to write this script for myself after I have recently upgraded my system and (foolishly) removed pacman.log in the meantime. The system crashed and I had no real idea which package upgrade might have been the cause. Thus, this software.
The main idea is to allow the user to quickly check what changes were made to local packages since a given day. Usage:
jakpak -d 05-07-2014 -r core
will provide the user with the list of packages (with their respective versions) that differ between the local system and the particular date specified by the user.
Apparently, the code needs some tuning, therefore if anyone would be interested in using this piece of software, this will follow up in due course. The same applies to a PKGBUILD.
Github link with installation instructions.
Please let me know whether you find it useful!The listing is alphabetical:
$ ./foo Thu Jul 09 21:29:43 CEST 2014
shaman-git
$ ./foo Thu Jul 09 11:29:43 CEST 2014
flashplugin
imagemagick
intel-dri
libsystemd
mesa
mesa-libgl
shaman-git
systemd
systemd-sysvcompat
xorg-xkbcomp
You may want to sort it e.g. from the oldest to the most recent:
$ cat bar
#!/bin/bash
datesec=$(date -d "$*" +%s)
expac --timefmt=%s '%l %n' | sort -n | awk -v a=$datesec '$1>=a {print $2}'
(just added 'sort -n' before the awk part)
Date has to be in a certain format for the script to work:
$ ./foo 11/07/2014
$ ./foo Jul 11

Login settings will not update the local testing server files
When uploading to web server from local testing server, changing login settings in the control panel does not update the local testing server Restrict Access to page files. Causing login on website not to function.
It does however update the Connections file and the login wizard form.
What is the best way to change login settings before uploading site to web server?
Thanks
DanDan - I am having the same exact problem. I'm using the restrict access and user registration and login - when attempting to use the Update Record wizard to allow users to change their password or email address, it doesn't change the record.

Question
How do I tell what version (update / release level) of version 6 has been applied to my system? I have applied several different release levels to version 6 of FF but all the about feature tells me is Version 6.0. no version! This seems to be a change in the way updates are handled. Is that a bending because of the speed of which you're pushing out updates and new releases?
contact me if you need something more
''deleted email address''@cchur <br />
Nope, I never used Chrome, but I did try Chromium on my Windows desktop PC for a few months last year. I got tired of the Google updater. exe running all the time and Google's method of doing updates, so it's gone. I do have Chromium on my Linux EeePC since last summer, but Ubuntu handles all updates and gives the user the capability to accept or deny, any or all updates - much more to my liking, similar to the way Mozilla does it. I don't like software developers forcing to update until I am ready to proceed.
There's a lot more about this new Fast Release system, than just the lack of visible version numbers, that I don't like. The Nightly, Aurora, Beta, & Release sequence is dumb with the way it changes the version numbers. I prefer installing (for instance) what will become version 7 and have that installation progress thru the 4 stages, instead. Now it's like Nightly going from 7 to 8, Aurora going from 6 to 7, and Beta doing - hell, I won't know if it becomes a Release or if it just dies and I will have to install the Release version myself. ''Quite honestly I don't care, because I don't think this new "system" is going to last too long without major modifications. Too damn many users are so pissed off, that when Firefox starts losing large numbers of users, Chrome keeps growing and eventually passes Firefox in number of users and market share of usage - Mozilla will wake up and see the "light" and change back to the way things used to be done, to a certain extent.''
I also dislike the UI changes in 4/5/6/7 enough that I am still using Firefox 3.6 for almost everything and Firefox 2.0.0.20 for the rest. I have been setting my toolbars up almost like Mozilla did for Firefox 4, since Firefox '''0.7''' in 2003 and I haven't come up with a workable combination of mods and extensions to configure Firefox to look and work the way I have been doing for almost 8 years now. -
I now have a useless $700 phone. Updated iTunes to latest version (and can't get it to revert back to an earlier version), updated iPhone (iPhone5) to iOS 7 and now it won't talk to iTunes, nor will it connect to my WiFi. What should I try now?
If it won't talk at all to iTunes, you can hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds, it will power off, this is ok, then let go of the power button while holding the home button until iTunes sees it as a device in recovery mode. You can try to reinstall iOS7 and then restore.

I have Microsoft Word for Mac 2011, version 14.3.1. When I try to open a document, an error occurs, says file type is "blocked from opening in this version." This was NOT immediately after a version update. Any ideas? Thank you.
Take a look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953266
If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you take up the question in Microsoft's own forums or with Microsoft support.

Question about the sensor... just got my 4s yesterday after screwing up my 3 with the laterd version update. EVery call I have been on has either changed to speaker, called another number or ended the call or activated facetime, which I have turned off. never had this trouble with my 3...I don't even want to talk to anyone on this phone! Is the sensor bad? That is what the AT&t rep suggested.
Restore as new... if the problem still continues then there is a hardware issue.
If it stops after a restore as new, then the issue is with the backup the device is currently setup with. -
ITunes 10.6.1 - ipod version update button is mis-linked
When a docked ipod is synced with iTunes 10.6.1, on the ipod summary page, when the Version Update button is selected, iTunes checks the current iTunes version and returns the message, iTunes is up to date even though in the Version window it says there is a newer version of software for this ipod ( iOS 6.0 ), The Update button is mis-directed. It should be checking and updating the docked iPods system software. Not checking iTunes up to date.
( 4th Gen iPod touch in this case docked to iTunes 10.6.1 )Ok, this worked for me (manual download for iTunes 10.6.3 update on OS X 10.5.8):
