Versioning document in XML type coloumn

Hi All,
I have a specific requirement in my product.I have to version the data entered in XML type coloumn. I tried searching in google and oracle 9i doc but I got the information for versioning the document stored under a partcular directory using resource_view not for my set of requiremets.
Here I am giving more info:
created a table abcd(int id , xmlcol XMLType)
and associated a schema for this coloumn.Inserted data in xml format in the coloumn. I need to create different version of this data in xml type coloumn with new id.
If any of you worked on this / have some idea abt how to proceed will be very helpful to me...
Thanks in advance,
Cheers
Somasekar.

Hi
I am looking for some information for versioning the XMLType Column defined in the schema. The data inserted into the XML Type column will adhere to same schema.
Can anyone help me or point me to some information.
Thanks

  • Problem to validate XML document if the type of root element is abstract

    I have the following XML document:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ct013/>
    It corresponds to the following XSD Schema:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
         <xs:element name="ct013" type="foo"/>
         <xs:complexType abstract="true" name="foo"/>
         <xs:complexType name="fixedType">
              <xs:complexContent>
                   <xs:restriction base="foo"/>
              </xs:complexContent>
         </xs:complexType>
    </xs:schema>
    Please take attention to the fact that the type of root element of that BDD is abstract.
    XML Schema provides a mechanism to force substitution for a particular element or type. When an element or type is declared to be "abstract", it cannot be used in an instance document. When an element is declared to be abstract, a member of that element's substitution group must appear in the instance document. When an element's corresponding type definition is declared as abstract, all instances of that element must use xsi:type to indicate a derived type that is not abstract.
    Declaring an element as abstract requires the use of a substitution group. Declaring a type as abstract simply requires the use of a type derived from it (and identified by the xsi:type attribute) in the instance document.
    For more information of using abstract types please see chapter 4.7 Abstract Elements and Types of XML Schema Part 0: Primer Second (http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-0/#abstract).
    In this case there is Oracle bug when I try to validate this XML document using Oracle XDK:
    String validate(String xml, String schema)
    throws XSDException, XMLParseException, SAXException, IOException
    System.setPropert("oracle.xml.parser.debugmode", "true");
    XSDValidator xsdValidator = new XSDValidator();
    XMLError xmlError = new XMLError();
    xmlError.setErrorHandler(new DocErrorHandler());
    XMLDocument xmlDocument = parseXMLDocument(xml);
    XMLDocument schemaXMLDocument = parseXMLDocument(schema);
    XMLSchema xmlSchema = (XMLSchema) new XSDBuilder().build(schemaXMLDocument, null);
    xsdValidator.setError(xmlError);
    xsdValidator.setSchema(xmlSchema);
    xsdValidator.validate(xmlDocument);
    return getValidationError(xsdValidator);
    I get the following error:
    Can't find resource for bundle oracle.xml.mesg.XMLResourceBundle, key XSD-2046.
    I tried to validate this XML document using two other libraries - XSD Schema Validator (http://apps.gotdotnet.com/xmltools/xsdvalidator/Default.aspx) and xsdvalid-29 (http://www.w3.org/XML/Schema#XSDValid). Both libraries pointed me on the error that the type of root element is abstract and it cannot be used for doing validation.
    I think that Oracle should return me explaining message but not to throw exception.
    Am I right? Is there really Oracle bug or I miss something?
    Any help, hits, advices would be gratfully apriciated.

    Define Element1 as follows:
    <xs:element name="Element1">
    <xs:complexType>
    <xs:complexContent>
    <xs:restriction base="xs:string"/>
    </xs:complexContent>
    </xs:complexType>
    </xs:element>
    Does the XML document get validated if the element is specified as
    <Element1></Element1>

  • Reg : xml version attribute in xml

    Hi, van body tell me what is the significance of version attribute.
    sometimes we use 1.0 , some times we use 4.0.
    2 ) encoding attribute...? when we use UTF , ISO. and tell me among the
    version , encoding which are mandatory, optional.
    <?xml....?> --tag is optinal or not

    The version attribute specifies the version of the XML standard you are using. 4.0 is not a valid version. You get 1.0 or (maybe if the parser supports it), 1.1. There is no XML version 4.0.
    This value is not to be used for versioning your documents within your application context but is for parsers to determine which version of XML they must comply with when parsing your document.
    See the prolog section in the XML specification:
    http://www.w3.org/TR/xml/#sec-prolog-dtd
    The encoding lets your parser know how the document's bytes were encoded so it can decode them properly. A simple google search for info on the encoding types, UTF-8, UTF-16, ISO-8859-1, etc. will tell you all you need to know.
    Finally, the declaration <?xml ...?> is optional but recommended. Not only is it good practice, but it will ensure maximum portability of your documents (some parsers will reject the doc if you don't have it).

  • Custom action with XML type input and output parameter.

    Hi,
    I want to develop custom action with xml type input and/or output parameter.
    Is there sample code for java side. How is the definition of input and/or output parameter and set/get methods?
    does it need special .jar file to develop custom action like this?
    Thanks.

    Cemil - yes, you can use XML data types.  Use the class
    com.sap.lhcommon.xml.XMLDataType
    for your parameter type.  Here is a snippet from a custom action we use to log XML (instead of just returning the #text node like the default logger does):
    public class XMLLogger extends ActionReflectionBase
        private String source;
        private String eventType;
        private String textMessage;
        private XMLDataType xmlMessage;
        public XMLLogger()
            log = new Logger("UserLog");
            source = DEFAULT_SOURCE;
            eventType = TYPE_INFO;
            textMessage = "";
            xmlMessage = new XMLDataType();
        public XMLDataType getXmlMessage()
            return xmlMessage;
        public void setXmlMessage(XMLDataType xmlMessage)
            this.xmlMessage = xmlMessage;
        public void Invoke(Transaction transaction, ILog ilog)
            StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
            sb.append('[');
            sb.append(source);
            sb.append("] ");
            sb.append(textMessage);
            sb.append(XMLUtils.convertXmlToString(xmlMessage));
    XMLUtils is a helper class we wrote - it's just a bunch of standard Java XML boilerplate code.  The important part you need to know is XMLDataType.getDocument() will return an org.w3c.dom.Document.
    I hope that was enough information to help.

  • How to make previous version documents(CS1 and CS3) without extension  readable in InDesign CS5

    I have some previous version documents of CS1 and CS3  on Mac  which have been saved without any extension e.g 300, CS3doc etc.
    When I open such documents in InDesign CS5 they appear to be unreadable .  Only on  selecting 'All documents' filter  I am able to open those documents.
    I want to make all such documents (which are without extension) readable with 'All Readable Documents ' also .
    How I can do that, please  help me !!!!!

    The first thing I'd do is make sure the issue is really what I suspect it is - i.e. I suspect your extension-less documents don't have the proper type and creator.
    If you fire up a Terminal window, you should be able to use the GetFileInfo command to check one of the files:
    Assume 'sampleFile' is sitting on your desktop, you'd do
    GetFileInfo ~/Desktop/sampleFile
    (not sure when/whether GetFileInfo is installed on a Mac - I think it used to be part of Apple's developer tools, but on my Snow Leopard it resides in /usr/bin)
    Check what it says for 'type' and 'creator'.
    If these are not correct, we've confirmed that that's the reason why they don't show up in your file dialog.
    If the issue is type/creator related, I can think of the following options:
    a) Change your code to accept ANY file type/extension - I suspect this would work (not tested!):
    openFileDialog->AddType( '????' );
    If memory serves right, '????' should be accepted as a wildcard.
    b) correct the file types BEFORE they are viewed in the File Dialog - for example, if these files are in a very specific folder somewhere, you might be able to scan the folder, and correct their type and creator (e.g. iterate through all extensionless files in folder 'xyz' and change their type and creator). A lot depends on how those files get there, and whether they are tied to a specific folder or not - are they 'old' files, or are they being generated in some workflow? If they're all over a user's system or all over a file server, such pre-scanning and cleaning up file types approach will be a no-go.
    Cheers,
    Kris

  • Document in xml - Not serializable? Well, I need to cache it.

    Can anyone tell me how can I serialize DOM Document.
    When we try to put it in cache, cache complains that it
    is not serializable (I believe ElementImpl is not Serializable).
    In javadoc it shows serializable form for this Element, but when I look in the source it does not implements Serializable (and none of its parent interfaces).
    My question is this?
    Does anyone know how to serialize Document.
    (I do need to Serialize Document, not XML.In my case it
    is too expensive to parse XML every time I come back
    from cache)
    How do I use Serializable form of one class or interface?
    Thank You.
    Edmon

    Sorry about not being very helpful earlier. The number of people who submit JDC forum questions without reading even the elementary intro docs is rather staggering, IMHO. Here is something more detailed:
    (a) "Serialized form" of a class as found in javadoc has little to do with whether or not the class has been declared as Serializable by the implementor.
    (b) what matters to Java serialization is whether the object in question is runtime-Serializable. In your particular case, org.w3c.dom.Document is an interface and it was not declared as Serializable by W3C. Perhaps justifiably so, because that imposes unfair requirements on parser implementors [seeing that not everybody is expected to want to serialize a DOM tree the way you do].
    However, a particular parser implementation is free to make its Document implementation class as Serializable. If that is the case, writeObject(obj) will succeed even if "obj" variable is of Document [not Serializable] type but happens to point to a Serializable implementation class.
    But, if you rely on this behavior you are locking yourself into that particular parser implementation. Should you choose a different XML parser in the future you will see serialization errors at runtime. With things like JAXP and a variety of XML parsers available this perhaps is not the way to go.
    Things would have been different if Document was declared to implement Serializable. Then all XML parsers would have had a standard behavior for the DOM trees they produced, regardless of implementation details. This is not the case, though.
    Vlad.

  • Parsing the data from and xml type field

    Hi - I have registered a schema and inserted arecord into the table with the xml type column. Now I want to parse the data from the xmltype field into a relational table. I have been using the following select statement to accomplish this - and it does work if there is data in all the selected fields but when the filed is null then the whole select statement fails and brings back 'no rows returned'.If the value is null I want the select statment to return null. please give any ideas.
    SELECT version,frmd_transaction_date,extractValue(value(b), 'event_update/location')"location",
    extractValue(value(b), 'event_update/sending_system')"sending_system",
    extractValue(value(b), 'event_update/event_identifier')"event_identifier",
    extractValue(value(b), 'event_update/event_link')"event_link",
    extractValue(value(b), 'event_update/organization_code')"organization_code",
    nvl(extractValue(value(c), '/schedule/event_duration_minutes'),'000')"event_minutes"
    FROM fraamed_user.frmd_event_update , TABLE(xmlsequence(extract(xml_event_update, '/event_update')))b,
    TABLE(xmlsequence(extract(xml_event_update, '/event_update/schedule')))c

    ...then I guess you have to rewrite the query.
    Is schedule another xml sequence inside of event_update sequence ?
    If it is not you can try this :
    SELECT version,frmd_transaction_date,extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/location/text()')"location",
    extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/sending_system/text()')"sending_system",
    extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/event_identifier/text()')"event_identifier",
    extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/event_link/text()')"event_link",
    extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/organization_code/text()')"organization_code",
    extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/schedule/event_duration_minutes/text()')"event_minutes"
    FROM fraamed_user.frmd_event_update , TABLE(xmlsequence(extract(xml_event_update, '/event_update')))b
    ...if yes, did you try nvl function (I don't think this would be a solution of a problem):
    SELECT version,frmd_transaction_date,nvl(extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/location/text()')"location", 'NULL VALUE'),
    nvl(extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/sending_system/text()')"sending_system",'NULL VALUE'),
    nvl(extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/event_identifier/text()')"event_identifier",'NULL VALUE'),
    nvl(extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/event_link/text()')"event_link",'NULL VALUE'),
    nvl(extractValue(value(b), '/event_update/organization_code/text()')"organization_code",'NULL VALUE'),
    nvl(extractValue(value(c), '/schedule/event_duration_minutes/text()')"event_minutes",'NULL VALUE')
    FROM fraamed_user.frmd_event_update , TABLE(xmlsequence(extract(xml_event_update, '/event_update')))b,
    TABLE(xmlsequence(extract(xml_event_update, '/event_update/schedule')))c
    If none of this works post your xml schema.

  • XML-Type and reference to unavailable DTD causes validation problems

    Hi,
    I'm fairly new to Oracle's XML features. I've created a view that produces XML from a number of tables. The resulting XML is used to be stored on a web site for download by customers (this is a manual process about once a week via a CMS). It contains a reference to a DTD that is available on the web server, too. This XML must also be stored in the Oracle database. The problem is that the Oracle Server is not allowed to access any web site (Oracle server is in inhouse network with no access allowed to the world outside). So I can't store the XML in an XML-type column, as the Oracle server wants to validate the XML against the referenced DTD. There is an option not to validate the XML. But then I get the error when I try to access the XML afterwards. So up to now I use a CLOB column to store the XML, but then I lose all the benefits of an XML-type column. Is there any workaround?
    TIA,
    Stefan

  • DeserializationException: mapping lookup failure for xml type

    I generated a web-services.xml with the wsdl2Service task without a type mapping. The service is a document/literal based web service. I implemented the Java method, which accepts a single parameter with type javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement and returns javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement. Everytime I invoke the method from a client I get the following error from the server (WebLogic 8.1 SP4):

    If you had rectified this problem, please advice me as well.

  • Xml type column

    Hi,
    This is my first time ever working with xml type column. I have a xml type column with name,value pairs. This xml type column needs to be indexed. How can I index this column(which index is suitable)? Also can xml type column be used in where clause for the joins with another table columns.
    Thank You

    XMLTypes in 10.1 are extremely slow and extremely buggy.
    They're maginally better in 10.2 (with the exception of anything added in that release, most notably XQuery), although there are some disasterous bugs in 10.2 in functionality that was actually fine in 10.1 (e.g. memory leaks, scaling nightmares).
    The XML Respository (required for XSD registration and shredding) is very unstable and will cause performance issues and instance outages.
    This is on top of the intrinsic performance and volume inefficiencies involved with XML.
    If you store data in a (column,row) of a SQL table it needs to be atomic with respect to the context of the database. Hiding information inside XML in a column of a table means your data is no longer even in 1st normal form. Surely we can all agree that is a Bad Idea and contrary to any concept of good practise, at this late stage.
    Furthermore querying XML structures is complex, slow and inflexible due to the asymetric nature of hierarchies. And once your information is in it, you're stuck with the incompleteness of XPath and the inefficiency of XQuery. All the indices in the world won't save you.
    More still, it is almost impossible, and very expensive to constrain the data in the XML other than trivial domain and "data type" constraints. The constraints require procedural validation and are not immediate. So you can kiss goodbye to referential integrity and consistency even if you figure out how to implement them.
    Also "abstract clob" XMLType storage requires multiple full document copies for read consistency purposes, so you will cripple your instance and your storage overhead (typically rather kindly benchmarked at 3 times SQL volume) will exponentially run away.
    Just don't do it.

  • What is the storage limit for XPath search in 9i XML TYPE??

    Dear All,
    I stored many large XML documents in 9i XML TYPE, now I want to using extract() function to XPath search the stored document.
    The problem is that when I using extract() function, an error come out:
    ORA-19011: Character string buffer too small
    How can I solve it??
    Beside, I try to search some smaller XML documents, I can get the XML data using extract() in SELECT clause, but I still have ORA-19011 error if I using extract() in WHERE clause.
    Thanks a lot!!
    Regards,
    Thomas Lam

    By default in Firefox 4, a site can use up to 50MB of IndexedDB storage. If it tries to use more than 50MB, Firefox will ask the user for permission:
    http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/modules/libpref/src/init/all.js#101
    In Firefox for mobile devices (Google Android and Nokia Maemo), Firefox will ask for permission if a site tries to use more than 5MB:

  • Why can't I view the XML-type in my queries

    I have SQL Developer configured to connect to an Oracle 11g database, using the "thick net". I recently upgraded to version 2.1.1.64.
    I have an issue displaying XML-type results. If I execute a query that returns XML-types, I get the following error: oracle.sql.OPAQUE@e8bd13. Is there a patch, update or tweak I can do to get around this and display the actual results?
    Thanks.

    Can you see the sample schemas and the XMLTYPE in the OE Warehouses table, or does this also issue the same error.? You should be able to see the XML content using SQL Developer 2.1.
    Please note there is also an early adopter for 3.0.
