Very simple! Very Stuck, HTML / ActionScript issue

I have not used flash for many many years, and i'm stumped on a basic thing, I can do this in action scripted but its all changed and I need to output as html and none of my action script works. If anyone could help I would be very grateful!
What I need to create is: a button when you hover over the button it tells a movie clip on the stage to goto and stop a frame, when you click the same button it tells the main time line to goto and stop a frame. In action script it works but Im not very good with it or Java and after html output nothing works. Please help been poking around for ages!

Hi Ned, heres a set of actions, basically a movie instance on the stage changes depending which of the two buttons you hoverover and when you click the either button it takes you to different points on the main stage, hope that makes sense, I pretty sure my script could be cut down abit too, but just having it work in js would be a good start!
stop();
YesButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, fl_MouseOverHandler_1);
function fl_MouseOverHandler_1(event:MouseEvent):void {
    dog.gotoAndStop(3);
YesButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler_1);
function fl_MouseClickHandler_1(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(35);
NoButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, fl_MouseOverHandler_2);
function fl_MouseOverHandler_2(event:MouseEvent):void {
    dog.gotoAndStop(1);
NoButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_MouseClickHandler_2);
function fl_MouseClickHandler_2(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(3);

  • A very simple, very stupid question

    When I do screen grabs (shiftctrl+apple4) where do those pictures go??? I can't find them anywhere though I do hear the "camera snap" sound. Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Screen shots are saved as .tiff files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
    You can also take pictures of the screen using the Grab application (in the Utilities folder).
    (And that was not a stupid question!)

  • Very simple html template engine...

    Hi forum
    I need to create a very simple html templating engine. My requirements are only load a html document into an object (HTMLDocument for example?), search a couple of particular tag or string, treat the text found between these tags like a block, repeating the content all the necessary times, and replacing a special string within the text for another one.
    Here an example:

Foo page

{String to replace}

If i pass the html example code for the template engine with the following parameters, the result that i want is:
    Number of times to repeat the BLOCK: 3
    Text to replace de special string: Hello world

Foo page

Hello world

Hello world

Thats all. I search in google for something but a encountered only javascript based "applications", except the "Rhino" engine, but that is to much for mi needs.

  • Help: Very simple HTTPService issue

    I have created very simple test :

    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    layout="absolute"
    width="100%" height="100%">
    <mx:Script>
    import mx.rpc.http.HTTPService;
    [Bindable]
    public var srv:HTTPService;
    </mx:Script>
    <mx:Label text="Is it working?" />
    </mx:Application>
    This application is rendered by tomcat here :
    http://jc.studiogdo.com (you can
    test)
    As the HTTPService is declared, you can see that nothing is
    rendered!!!! On a local machine (tomcat running on my localhost)
    then it works on IE. On real server like this example nothing
    works!!! Of course without declaring the HTTPService everything
    works... I've created this example with Flex Builder2 on eclipse
    useProxy is false, so no need for a crossdomain.xml... Where
    is the error????
    Many thanks for help..

    The issue is that : declaring the HTTPService stops the
    player (even if the play parameter is set to true for the embed
    object) when the application is served from a tomcat server (not a
    local file), so it works only if I forces (right menu) the play
    menu item.
    What happens :
    On a local file : FF and IE accepts to autoplay the
    application
    On a local tomcat (localhost url) : FF refuses to auto play,
    IE accepts.
    On a real distant tomcat server : FF and IE refuses to
    autoplay
    I think this is for security reason? But how to force the
    play parameter to be used anyway... (I repeat to be sure
    understanding : the simple HTTPService declaration changes the way
    the play parameter is evaluated..)

  • Very simple question about webapp list layout.

    Hi Everyone!
    I am having a very simple issue. I have created a web app and it has a default list layout looks like:

{tag_counter}. {tag_name}

    I have placed web app module (using {module_webapps,14273,a} ) in one of my page. In front-end it has show every thing fine except it shows table tag for each item:

1. Castlepoint Lot 101

2. EFG Lot

3. Some Lot

4. Some Other Lot

    When I delete table and tbody tags from list view, it stop showing table related tags instead it start showing it without any tag.
    How to correct this issue? Please help!!!

    Here is what you can do:
    -edit the webapp list layout via FTP or via the "alpha" File Manager. The WYSIWYG editor will attempt to "correct" your HTML code. Enter something like this:

    {tag_counter}. {tag_name}

    -on the page you need the listing placed on enter this code:

    {webappmodule here}

    When the page renders you will get the desired result:

1

Item1

2

Item2

3

Item3

4

Item4

    Yes, you need to add a servlet -mapping element and adjust your form to submit to the appropriate URL mapping.
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HelloWorldServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/Hello</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>

  • Very Simple Problem-- Need help in method selection process

    Hello,
    It's difficult to explain the background of the program I am making-- but I am stuck at a very simple problem, that I can only solve with a very long block of if statements:
    I have 3 possible numbers-- 1, 2, or 3.
    Imagine two numbers are already taken-- say 1 and 2. I want a variable to set itself to the number that's not taken (3).
    So, again: If two numbers were taken say 2 or 3-- I want the variable to be sent to the other one that isn't taken-- 1.
    Thank you for your help,
    Evan.

    Actually, I'll just tell you the context of the program-- here is what I have so far:
    This program is meant to simulate Monty Hall Problem:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem
    The program sets up an array of three possible values. Each one of those values represents a door with either a goat or a car behind it. It then randomly sets one of those values to 1 (in order to represent a car as per the Monty Hall problem), and 0's represent goats.
    The user, which is simulated by the program (does not involve actual interaction), chooses a door initially.
    The game show hosts then reveals a door that is not the users initial choice, but IS a goat ( an array value of 0).
    For example if the array was [0][0][1]
    The user could pick door one (array position 0). Which is a goat.
    The game show host then reveals a goat that is not the users choice-- which would be array position 1.
    After the game show host reveals the goat-- I want the user to always switch his decision to the only other remaining door that was not his first choice.
    Then I wanted the computer to test to see if his final choice is the one with a car. And to tally up the amount of times he got it right.
    --Sorry that was long winded:
    import TerminalIO.*;//imports TerminalIO package for system.out.println
    import java.util.*;//import java.util for random
    public class Monty_Problem
         int doors[]= {0,0,0};
         Random rand= new Random();
         double wins,totals=0;
         public void carAssignment()
              int car_door= rand.nextInt(3);
              doors[car_door]=1;
         public int judgesChoice(int judgeDoor, int initialChoice)
              if(judgeDoor != initialChoice && doors[judgeDoor]!=1)
                   return judgeDoor;
              else
                   return judgesChoice(rand.nextInt(3), initialChoice); //infinite loop right here that I cannot remedy. I want the program to have the judge pick a location that is not occupied by a '1' and is not the user's choice.
         public void gamePlaySwitches()
              int initialChoice= rand.nextInt(3);
              int judgeDoor = 0;
              int secondChoice= 0;
              judgeDoor= judgesChoice(rand.nextInt(3), initialChoice);
              //This part is meant to have the user switch choices from his initial choice
                   // to the only other choice that hasn't been revealed by the judge.
              while(secondChoice == initialChoice || secondChoice== judgeDoor)
                   secondChoice++;
              if(doors[secondChoice]==1)
                   wins++;
                   totals++;
              else
                   totals++;

              Monty_Problem a= new Monty_Problem();
              int games=0;

                        a.carAssignment();

  • Creating a very simple XML-driven gallery

    Hi, I'm learning XML in AS3 and I am having real trouble finding a resource that can help me learn how to build a very simple XML-driven picture gallery.
    I am working in an FLA file with AS3, with a dynamic text field with the instance name "textfield". I also have a UILoader Component with the instance name "UILoaderComponent" and an XML file called "rootdir.xml".
    I have an XML file in the following format.
    <images>
         <imagenames>

         </imagenames>
         <imagepaths>
              image1.jpg
              image2.jpg
              image3.jpg
              image4.jpg
              image5.jpg
         </imagepaths>
    </images>
    I am using the following as my actionscript.
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    var xmlData:XML = new XML();
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadXML);
    xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("rootdir.xml"));
    function LoadXML(e:Event):void {
    xmlData = new XML(e.target.data);
    parseImg(xmlData);
    function parseImg(imgLoad:XML):void {
    var imgChild:XMLList = imgLoad.images.children();
    for each (var imgTrace:XML in imgChild) {
    trace(imgTrace);
    No matter which way I experiment, I always have poor results with my dynamic text, and every tutorial I've followed does not reproduce anything like the same returned data in "textfield" that it does with the trace command.
    My objective is: I simply want to build a menu inside a textbox called "textfield" that lists images1-5, and when clicked, calls upon the relevant image. For instance: I load the file "rootdir.xml" into the file "index.fla". I call a function to parse the XML into a dynamic text box called "textfield". When image 2 is clicked on the textbox "textfield", it would call upon a function that would load into the UIComponent Loader "image2.jpg".
    Are there any tutorials for this? I'm so confused as to why dynamic text operates so differently from the trace command. I'm not interested in doing a fancy menu bar with thumbnails, scrollbars and animations, I just want to learn the basics.

    I don't really see how you are getting a valid trace out of that code (I get nothing if I try it as is), but as far as the textfield goes, you haven't shown any attempt in your code that might help to point to why you cannot get the text into a textfield. It might be a problem with how you are trying to write to the textfield and not how your are manipulating the data.
    While you could make use of a textfield for the menu, doing so is not straightforward, as you would need to implement htmlText with special coding in order to have the text clickable. You might consider using a List component or ComboBox instead.
    What I always do when I am working with xml is to store the data into a data structure, usually an array conatining objects, and then make use of that structure rather than dippng into the xml data itself when I utilize the data.
    Another thing, which rquigley demonstrated, is that your xml will serve its purpose better if the data for each image is collected under the same node. If you have separate sections for each piece of data like you have, when it comes to editing it will be more prone to error as you have to be sure you are editing the correct entry of each separate group.
    I too am no expert in the world of xml, but I have not yet worked with parameters inside the tags, so I would usually structure it as...
    <images>

           <imgName>image 1</imgName>
           <imgPath>image1.jpg</imgPath>

           <imgName>image 2</imgName>
           <imgPath>image2.jpg</imgPath>

    </images>
    Now, back to what you have... let's say you have a textField named imgText that you want to list the image names in. The following should work, though I do not go my usual route of storing the data into an object array first...
    function parseImg(imgLoad:XML):void {
       var imgNames:XMLList = imgLoad.imagenames.name;
       var imgPaths:XMLList = imgLoad.imagepaths.path;
       // show name
       for each (var nameTrace:XML in imgNames) {
          trace(nameTrace);
          imgText.appendText(nameTrace +"\n");
       // show path
       for each (var pathTrace:XML in imgPaths) {
          trace(pathTrace);
          imgText.appendText(pathTrace +"\n");
       // show name and path
       for(var i:uint=0; i<imgNames.length(); i++){
          trace(imgNames[i].text()+"  "+imgPaths[i].text());
          imgText.appendText(imgNames[i].text()+"  "+imgPaths[i].text() +"\n");

  • Very simple question from a beginner

    I am currently doing a little exercise, but I ran into a problem. I have written a class that supports operations on rational number. The fields are two long variables, one each that stores the numerator and denominator.
    I have made add, subtract, multiply, and divide methods...
    1. what I need help in is: beingh able to store the rational number in reduced for, with the denominator always positive
    2. constructing a toString method, equals method, and compareTo method.
    3. it also says "make sure the toString method correctly handles the case in which the denominator is zero by throwing an exception.
    I have been working on this for a long time now, an I am stuck at this point.
    I know this will be very simple for you guys and gals, but I am a beginner. Please offer some input, advice, and/or some code to help me get past this problem.
    Thanks so much,

  • A very very very simple question

    Hi guys,
    I have a very simple question and standard but I cant find anywhere...
    I have two dateTime variables, i need to calculate difference between this dates in days, thats it.
    I tried all functions and tried without success a Java Embed task but I couldnt retrieve this objects as java.util.Date so I couldnt calculate exactly the difference in days like this pure java code:
    (dataVencimento.getTime() - dataReferencia.getTime()) / 86400000L)
    can you help me this?

    Hi Jose
    Just see if these alternate approaches works. I know there may be lot like this and you may be lucky to find out simple out of box solution itself. If you want to solve this issue and move ahead, gives these approaches a shot.
    1. Create a very simple standalone WebService that takes 2 input date elements (can be of Date type or String type. If string type, convert to date in your java code). Create a simple operation like getDaysBetween(firstDate, secondDate). In the generated webservice impl class, use the java code apis (refer earlier link for usage), and get the difference. Return this value. NOW, invoke this WebService in your BPEL Process, and pass your 2 inputs (if the bpel payload elemetns are date object or string objects of date), and get output, and then use this output in your continuing bpel process.
    2. This approach, I did a long back. When we insert any expression using XPath, in that editor window on bottom right side, we see many categories and for each category we see list of functions we can use, like for String, we can use concat etc. I vaguely remember reading somewhere, that we can add our own custom functions also in this section. So explore this direction and see if you can add your own function and then use that fucntion with your 2 input dates.
    I have not given solution to your problem, but may be these directions can help you move ahead. Or something along these lines.
    Thanks

    Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

    Solution below.
    Error 9
    This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Very simple spreadsheet crashes Numbers?

    Hi,
    This very simple spreadsheet entered on the Mac version of Numbers onto iCloud, crashes Numbers on my iPad. Can somebody confirm that this is indeed an issue with Numbers, and not some quirk in my configuration?
    Any suggestion to work that issue around?
    Needless to say, this spreadsheet is an extreme reduction of a complex spreadsheet that does significant statistical data analysis on biochemistry experimental data coming from a spectrophotometer. That spreadsheet works beautifully on the Mac, and I would like to have it run on the iPad, for use in the lab.
    The crash comes from this formula in the "Keep" columns:
    =IF (NOT(Outlier '2'),y '2', "")
    The slightly simpler formula without the "else" value crashes number too:
    =IF (NOT(Outlier '2'),y '2')
    Removing the "Keep" column altogether prevents Number from crashing...
    Thanks a million

    For the sake of it, I recreated that spreadsheet on the iPad directly, and of course, it doesn't crash...

  • Help with a very simple horizontal Spry menu

    Hi,
    I’ve always received great help here and I’m sure that if I explain the issue I’m having properly I’ll get some good input.
    This is to do with a very simple horizontal Spry menu, there’s no dropdown involved, only a color change on the rollover. The menu items are in a shade of blue, then on the rollover each menu item changes to a shade of red, the font color remains white for both.
    What’s mentioned above works flawlessly, the problem I’m having is this … On the rollover when the menu block items turn red, I’m attempting to add a 1px border around the entire block, but when I do the block item seems to want to change its width and height slightly when it’s rolled-over. As I said, without the border it works perfect.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    You also have to apply the border to the 'a' css selector. If you just apply it to the 'a:hover' css selector then the tab will grow slightly bigger because its adding more width and height to the overall structure.

  • Create a very simple mp3 player with flash

    newbie with flash...
    with the FLVPlayback component i can get a nice looking basic player for .flv files easily...
    Q: is there some way to set up the same functions to create a very simple mp3 player with flash?

    Search Google for "Flash MP3 tutorial" and if you know which version of actionscript you plan to use, try substituting that for "Flash"
