VGA RMA Question...

I had to RMA back two video cards, and they arrived Monday, start processing testing phase on Tuesday, so I'm getting antsy, and I call them yesturday, and the guy tells me it will take 15-20 days for them to test/get around to testing them. Is this correct? Do I really have to wait the better part of a month?

2 days? It that because the RMA's are for a business and/or a reseller? I'd assume there is a priority.
For all I know, there may be a specific reason based on that card? Like I said, no golden answer and nothing but speculation on anyones part here.
2 weeks doesn't seem that bad to me round trip.
Resellers can be quick and slow, I've had some RMA's take 3 days for a return. Others 2 months for a refund, most reseller don't do full checks. Where makers (MSI in this case) may test products more fully. Its never nice to deal with  RMA's, you paid for it and want it to "DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN" (sorry for caps) Some parts have problems that the PC market. No maker will have 100% of products working 100% of the time.

  • 20" Cinema DVI to VGA KVM Question

    Hello all,
Wondering if anyone has come across this. What I am trying to do is use a kvm switch for both my powermac g5 and my pc. Both are compatable with vga/dvi. The issue I have is I want to buy a linksys vga kvm switch (http://microcenter.com/singleproduct_results.phtml?productid=0148182) which only has vga ports. I would love to buy a dvi kvm switch, but the price is too high.
So the question is, is there any way I can convert the dvi connector comming from the 20" cinema display i have to vga to be plugged in to this linksys kvm switch, which will in turn be directed to connect through vga connectors on my mac and pc? If so, do you know where I may buy the connector?
Also, does anyone know if the cinema displays are capable of dvi-d or they dvi-i? If they are just dvi-d, then I would think it may be immpossible to connect this monitor to any analog source.
    Thanks again!
    Tim

    Tim -
Any time you go from DVI to vga you limit your potential maximum resolution. Once you have imposed a limit, you cannot go back. I was facing the same problem and ended up with a Geffen KVM switch that supports the 30" ACD display resolutions just fine. A little pricey, yes, but compare that to the price of a second monitor...

  • VGA Bios questions...

My VGA card is MSI FX5600-TD256.
    Here are my questions:
1)Which is the latest Bios version for my card? My current version is 4.31.20.39.00. Is there a newer one? Searching through the web I found another version including this text in the read me file:
    Quote
    MSI GeForce FX BIOS
Name     : GeForce FX 5600 BIOS
    Version  : 4.31.20.69.00    Ultra : No
2)Is it worth updating the bios? (I have restart problems probably caused by graphics card...)
3)Which is the proccess I have to follow to update it? (Just copy the .rom file in a disk and boot from that disk??)
4)Why in MSI site there are no VGA Bios files?
5)How do I back up my current VGA bios version?
    Thanks in advance...

If MSI live Update finds no BIOS upgrade then there is no BIOS upgrade available. Even if there is one available, I don't recommend updating VGA BIOS unless there is a known documented issue relating to your problem. As far as I know there is no issue currently. I have not come across this issue in these forums either.
I don't have any answers to your restart problem since you did not provide any details of this restart problem. I cannot guarantee I would even if you did, but do so anyway.
I never update VGA BIOS's so I can't help you on backing up your current VGA BIOS. Someone else will have to step in for that.
The MSI site doesn't archive VGA BIOS files for the public. MSI only updates the original VGA BIOS from nVidia in circumstances such as when they decide to use a different RAM package than specified from nVidia spec. Oftentimes I see users reporting that MSI Live Update hosed their VGA BIOS after an update and in a few circumstances I have been able to request the original BIOS file.
Again, it's not worth updating the VGA BIOS as they get it right the first time and they hardly ever deviate from the original nVidia BIOS unless a certain RAM package is used for say an OEM version of the card or a performance version where they may use a faster package etc.
I recommend looking elsewhere for your restart problem.

  • RMA Question About 8800GTS

First off watch this video if you own an 8XXX series card.  It could save your card from dying like mine did!
The latest Nvidia drivers have lowered the fan speeds in the cards' BIOS which causes the capacitors on the cards to overheat and become damaged after extended usage.  The cards will still throttle up to speed, but they're too conservative with the fan speeds and the cards become dangerously hot before this happens.  Since the fan controls have been disabled in the Nvidia control panel the only way to force the fan speed back to 100% is through a third party program like Riva Tuner.  Unfortunately for me I discovered this after the damage had already been done so while Riva Tuner was able to prevent further degradation it could not "heal" my card.  Do not just assume that your system is fine and ignore this advice.  It took me about a month and a half of heavy usage (about 60 hours a week) after updating to the XP 158.22 drivers (fan control worked fine in the XP 97.22 drivers) before the artifacting and system crashing began to happen.  I have confirmed that this is indeed the card's fault as it does not happen with the PowerColor X1050 that I am using as a stopgap while I RMA the card.
One thing to point out is that this card was only having issues in some games when I RMA'd it.  It still performed fine during boot and about half of the games that I play, but flaked out during others (Counter-Strike:Source for example).  My question is:
Will the MSI RMA department be able to find the defects or will they see that the card appears to function normally in Windows, deny me a new card, and after a month of waiting send me back the same damaged card that I spent $30 to ship out to them?  Sharing any advice or experience that you've had with the MSI RMA department would be greatly appreciated and help ease the agony of not knowing!  :P
    Thanks,
    xwn
EDIT: System Specs (For the naysayers):
    Video = MSI NX8800GTS (PowerColor X1050 ATM)

Memory = 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC4000 (1 day Memtest86 passed, Not overclocked ATM)
Cooling = Zalman CNPS9500 + Arctic Silver 5 (Drop Method)
Mobo = MSI K8N Diamond Plus (BIOS 3.0A, HT lowered to 4X, Spread Spectrum Disabled, Nothing overclocked ATM)
    PSU = Silverstone ST75ZF (750W, 4 12V Rails @ 18A each, Hooked up to separate devices)
Soundcard = Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Gamer (Tried uninstalling prior to RMA)
HDD = WD2500JS (250GB, Defragged, Virus scanned, etc...)
Case = Raidmax X1 (Stock fans replaced, HDD fan added)
    Latest drivers etc...  blah blah

nthexwn u can see in nvidia and valve forums that there are huge amount of probs with 88xx series and CSS, so it looks like software issue if it only hapens in CSS. And are u running vista or XP. It looks like most probs are fixed with newest Vista driver.
here is also one thread starting to speak about fog prob later, turning to other probs
Yes I remember dealing with the fog problems when I first got the card.  The fog bug got fixed after one of the driver updates.
I am running Windows XP which is compatible with the 8800GTS.
As you can see in the linked video the problems that I was experiencing are definitely graphics artifacting.  Neither I or anybody I have talked to about this issue have seen or heard of that sort of behavior before as a result of a software bug, so it was mostly likely a hardware problem with the video card, which is why I RMA'd it.
After a couple of days I have been unable to get in contact with MSI via phone, so I have written them an e-mail instead:
    Hello,
I shipped out a malfunctioning NX8800GTS video card (RMA#: **********) to your USA RMA department that arrived over a week ago according to UPS tracking.  When I check the status of this RMA through your website it just says that it is "in processing".  I was under the impression that it would only take a few days to replace my video card so I'm wondering what's causing the delay, or if there's any information that I can provide to make the replacement happen faster?  This has been the slowest RMA from any company that I have yet experienced.  I could understand if there was a large queue of RMA orders to be processed, but it would be very helpful to be told of this so that I know approximately when to expect a replacement.
Is there any information that you can provide me with or further information that I can provide your department?
    Thanks,
    Alex
I hope to hear back from them soon, though I'd still appreciate any advice or experiences that any of you may have regarding dealings with MSI's RMA department(s).

switch to Peformance BIOS, also open PC case side door and retest
i tested that without side door even out of case and no major difference in temperatures!and also performance bios didnt help here is my furmark test with open side cover (80 in 6 mins ~5000 RPM):
i tested mafia 2 and almost same old results
as i said before reseller warranty company tested (out of case) and reached 80!with 100% fan~4400 RPM!obvious high temp and noisy for HAWK right?i really dont think its about air flow or ambient temp!
so could you please admit that this high temp and noisy Fan(+ that weird memory temp) is a problem and i can replace my VGA with new one with normal temperatures like this :
    http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-560-ti-hawk-review/8
then according to you i send back the VGA for replacement and if you say 80-90 is normal for a gtx 560 Ti HAWK and wont be any problem so my bad !
    thank you Svet

  • **VGA DynaDock Question**

I just installed a VGA Dynadock, and all of my peripherals are working fine. Whats wierd is when I click on "undock", I get the undock beep, but I no longer get the message "safe to undock". I do have the appropriate checkboxes in the dynadock settings to display the message, but it does not visually tell me its safe anymore. Any ideas?

  • VGA adapter question

I want to connect my ibook G4 to my Sony HD TV - I have the adapter that came with the ibook. But, it is so short - When I attach it to the back of my TV and the other end to my ibook - I'm on the back of the TV and can't see. If this is really stupid - I apologize. I just can't figure it out. Do I need another extender cable? thanks so much.

You need a VGA extender cable, you can buy them at most computer stores. I know the radioshack near me sells them. Just ask them for a VGA extender.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S51117 with an Intel Graphics HD Video Card. Does this particular card support digital signal output? I just want to be sure before I purchase go ahead and purchase the cable.

Audio would be stereo taken from the headphone port via a seperate cable to the converter box. It doesn't look like that machine has digital audio out, so no surround or whatever is possible.

  • VGA-DVI Question

Can I play the Xbox 360 using my Macbook Screen, they make a cable that allows you to plug the xbox 360 into a VGA port, and they make a DVI to VGA connector, but is the DVI plug on the Macbook only an output?

im not sure if it can be used as an input...im pretty sure that firewire is the only input on the macbook capable of handling video (which you would need) however the bigger quirk is going to be the DVI...the macbooks use a mini-DVI, and require an extra adapter to go from mini DVI to DVI

  • VGA Cable Question

I have (3) 23" Sony CRT monitors connected.
Two of them have VGA cables with some kind of hard rubber capsule (about 2" long and three times the diameter of the cable itself) on one end. What is this "capsule". The tech at Best Buy said it was a "terminator". Is that correct? Is it needed? What does it do?
My 3rd monitor does not have this in the cable, but that is the one that just started experiencing wake-up issues.

  • VGA cable question, and a problem

My PowerBook is connected to my 17" LCD via the cable that was included with the monitor. I bought a replacement VGA cable the other day. (I needed the original VGA cable to connect my Mac mini to the TV.) The original cable works perfectly with both the LCD and the TV. With the new cable there's visible ghosting appearing when connected to both the LCD and to the TV. What the ****? It's a brand new cable. It's a "Replacement/Switchbox Cable VGA/SVGA High Desnsity DB15 Male/Male" cable. Is that what I need? I noticed that the original cable has 15 pins and the new cable only has 14. Is that the problem? I didn't see any 15 pin cables at CompUSA.
Do I have a bad cable? To I need to return it in exchange for something else? What gives?

    Welcome to the discussions Michael,
It sounds like a poor quality cable - either an individual dud or just a bad brand. I wouldn't worry about the missing pin - VGA cables have three pins that aren't used for anything, so manufactures often leave one or more of them out.
Take it back and look for a good quality shielded cable. Ask the the staff if necessary. It may cost you more than you spent on the one you currently have. Try looking for a Belkin cable - they're usually a good brand (assuming your current cable isn't made by them...)

  • IPhone 4 Component/VGA Out Question

Apps like "Showanytime" show picture examples of the iPhone being used

The only VGA cable @ the Apple store is "iPad only".

  • VGA Projection Question

My macbook pro is currently hooked up to a TV via SVGA. I have to present a powerpoint on the TV and I would like to make it fullscreen; however, the TV is treated like an extension of the computer rather than a projection. My question is, how do I make it so that what is happening on my computer is happening on the TV. Thanks.

Have you set up the displays to mirror each other - and with what results? (SysPrefs/Displays/AutoDetect/Mirror Displays)
In what resolution did you save your Keynote/Powerpoint?
What is the TV's max resolution for the connection you are using?

  • Streaming to TV using VGA cable questions!

I've been streaming my mid 2009 Macbook pro to my LCD TV for years now.  For some reason in around Feb. 2012 it just stopped working.  I'm using a VGA cable with a seperate audio cable. Anyone else have this happen?  For some reason I think it stopped working after a software update around the time that the troubles started.  Anyone have any idea?  Trouble shooting suggestions?  Anything helps, thanks.

Only HDMI will carry the Aduio and Video together, if you use VGA, a audio cable is still required in the headphone jack to carry the sound to the TV.

  • RMA question/ Customer Support Quest

If I were to send a mp3 player back to creative, would using USPS be the best method? And does anyone know how much does it usually cost to ship/insure a mp3 player like the zen? I got mine for around $80 so I hope it doesn't cost me more than $0 to ship it back to them and its true that they send you back a refurbished one if they can't fix yours? I keep reading that they send you refurbished products that have "comestic damage"--is this true? I mean when my cell phone broke down, the company gave me a refurbished one but it didn't have like any comestic damage to it--it was like brand new besides for like one of the buttons looking wierd.
And After they send me a real email and I respond to it does it take customer support another full 24 hours before they respond?Message Edited by darkdallasnight on 03-2-2008 0:02 AM
