[VIA] [K7t266 pro2] cpu fan at 0 rpm

Hello,
I've connected my new fan 'Thermaltake Silent Boost' to the three-pin connector of the motherboard. The fan spins perfectly, but when I start my computer an alert is displayed informing me that the fan isn't running (but it is).
When I look at the Hardawre Monitor Setup in my bios, I see 'CPU Fan : 0 rpm'. But with MBM5 or FuzzyLogic under Windows, the sensor works.
Have I some value to change in the Bios ?
Motherboard : k7t266 Pro2
Bios : AMI BIOS
Fan : Thermaltake Volcano Silent Boost K7
Thanks

the fan is at ~2400rpm sothat's  maybe why my bios don't detect it as osnavi say.
I don't find any place where to disable fan speed monitoring. Any one has an idea ? (the manual is at http://us-download.msi.com.tw/support/mnu_exe/mbd_mnu/E6380LEv2.0.exe)
I'm afraid I should update the BIOS (v3.5 fix the problem) but i've lost a mobo two years ago because of this...

  • MSI K7T266 Pro2 cpu fan doesn't start

    Hello!
I have the mainboard MSI K7T266 Pro2, I have just upgraded my bios to version 3.7. When I start my computer, it stops and beeps to warn me that the cpu fan is'nt running, but when I open the computer to see If the cpu fan is running it does start, so why does is say that the fan doesn't star when it acctually does start?

No....!! There is nothing bad mounted.
The reason for this post of you PC, is that the cooler isn't running fast enough for the BIOS, so your BIOS just wantst to warn you. The easiest way to get rid of it, is to disable the "CPU Fan Detection" in the BIOS, or connect the fan to another plug. That's all there is to it!

  • MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum Smart CPU Fan reports 0 rpm ?

    Hi
I have a MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum (MS-7125) motherboard with an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and an Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 HSF.
In the BIOS setup, in the 'Monitor H/W' area you can set something called the 'Smart CPU Fan Target'.
o  If I set this to disabled, it reports a fan speed of about 2,280 rpm.
o  If I set it to 40°C, it reports a fan speed of 0 rpm !  (the fan is turning)
The MSI Core Center utility and Everest Ultimate also both report the fan speed as 0 rpm.
I assume that if I disable Smart CPU Fan, the fan always rotates at max. rpm; if I set it to 40°C, the fan runs at a slow speed until the temperature exceeds 40°C, at which point it speeds up (likewise if I set it to 50°C or 60°C).  However, the fan IS turning.
Can anyone explain this ?  I would like the reassurance of having the CPU HSF speed reported.
Incidentally , the PSU is an Akasa AK-P460FG
       (3.3v = 30A, +5v = 30A, +12v1 = 14A, +12v2 = 15A)

Very old post yes but I feel the need to reply anyway because I have the same problem myself.
Very strange and would be nice to hear if any more of ya guys out there can see the same.

  • CPU Fan at zero rpm and temp CPU A 100C

Today I noticed that my iMac was getting a bit hot. iStat widget reported that the CPU Fan was running at 0 rpm and that CPU A temperature was 100 degrees Centigrade!
Rebooting didn't help. Then I let it cool down and did a SMC reset. Luckily this worked, CPU Fan is running again at 800rpm.
I believe that it was pure luck that I noticed this, so I don't know for how long my fan wasn't working. Could this be harmful for my computer? Any suggestions what I should do to check if something is damaged?
What can I do to avoid this from happening in the future?
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

its connected to the motherboard. and its a simple case fan that lian li gave me. spins at 2200rpms about. and no bios cant see it spinning either and i tried another case fan that i know that works and still cant detect it. it was working fine the other day! it was just yesterday that  i noticed core center started beeping telling me its not detecting speed.

  • DualCore Center CPU Fan at 0 rpm randomly ?

    Hello everyone.
I recently got a new system with an MSI P965 Platinum motherboard, it's the first time I use MSI, before this I only had Soyo, Asus or Gigabyte motherboards.
    System specs:
    -MSI P965 Platinum
-Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13 Ghz (stock speed, nothing overclocked)
    -(2x) 1Gb OCZ 667 Mhz DDR2 RAM
    -Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E
    -500W Powercooler PSU (+3.3v_28a,+5v_34a,+12v1_20a,+12v2_17a)
    -Western Digital SATA Hard Drives WD3200KS, WD2500KS & WD2000JD
    -Pioneer DVR-109 & DVD-120
    -WinXP Pro SP2
My problem is that DualCore Center ocassionally pops and triggers an alarm indicating that the CPU fan speed is 0 rpm, it takes a couple of seconds and goes back to ~1950rpm and then again to 0rpm. At first this happened a couple of times while playing heavy 3D games, but I thought it might have been something related to the games so I just close DualCore Center before playing. I assume this because I've seen this kind of behavior on Asus PC Probe software in the past.
However I just saw it pop while browsing the internet and it kept going up and down so I had to close it or mute the sound.
I can see the cpu fan since the case is open and it looks ok, although I was thinking if the fan is indeed loosing power in 2 second intervals, I may not be able to notice it with my eyes.
CPU temp is around 32~34 C, System temp is along those lines as well. I think when CPU load is 100% the worst temp that I've gotten was maybe 40~42 C, but I don't think it ever got above those values.
I believe DualCore center version is 2.0, I had to download it from the MSI web site because the version that came with the motherboard Driver CD did not work.
Any ideas, thoughts or comments will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Don't use Dual Core Center and you will not have this kind of problem.
Whenever I use Dual Core center, alarms go off, stuff starts blinking, the system restarts or it freezes, hangs, causes strange error messages or suddenly decides that my system doesn't meet the requirements to run it at all.  On very beautiful and sunny days only it seems to work fine....
As long as I stay away from that strange tool everything is fine and stable.
Dual Core Center ist not the best tool ever written and considering the fact that it causes problems on many systems, the best idea is usually to delete it and never touch it again.
What do you need it for anyway?

  • CPU Fan showing 0 RPM

So I recently bought the MSI z97 Gaming 5 motherboard and I'm absolutely in love with it. Sporting an i7 4790k, MSI 770 GTX, and 8gb of G.Skill Sniper. Enough about the build, my problem is I'm using an NZXT Kraken x61 to cool the CPU, and I found the stock fans aren't adequate enough so I replaced them with Rosewill Hyperborea 140mm's and, while temperatures did drop a little, I still didn't feel like the idle temps were low enough. I broke the bank with this one guys, bought 3x Noctua NF A-14 iPPC's, two on the radiator, one for exhaust. They can run at 3000 RPM max and push upwards of 160 CFM. My problem is I can't view the RPM of these things.
The Kraken x61 has it's own set of 4x 4pin headers so I have all three hooked up to it. Before the Noctua's I had 3x Hyperborea's hooked up to it and I could view the RPM in both BIOS and software. I switched to the Noctua's and now it just shows 0 rpm in both BIOS and software. I can throttle the speeds just fine in NZXT's CAM software, but why won't it show the RPM? I know it's simple to just calculate it, but an exact number would be beneficial. Also this only happens on the CPU headers of the motherboard, if the Noctua's are plugged into the SYSFAN headers, I can see the RPM. Can't have them going off the SYSFAN headers because the Kraken needs to be plugged into the CPUFAN headers. Also SYSFAN can only go down to 50% throttle, and these things are rather noisy.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

  • How to reduce cpu fan speed just by hardware?

    Hi,
I have a K8N Neo4-F, AMD3200+ and "arctic cooling freezer 64 pro" as cpu fan. The rpm range of this fan is from 300 to 2200. I use "cool n' quiet" and "Smart CPU Fan Target with 40°C" as bios setting. When the cpu is idle ( ... just doing some typing or so on ...) it has a temperature of 32°C and the fan has ~950 RPM.
I think the fan speed is to high for this cpu load (< 5% and 1000Mhz CPU Clock). My expectation in this szenario is to have the cpu fan speed near the lower bound (300 rpm), but I don't know how to manage this (with just bios settings)  ... any hints?
    Thanks a lot ...

My point was you did what D.O.T. is supposed to do without using it.
Of course it's point is to auto-overclock the system to whichever degree it's set at. The problems come in because a lot of the settings it uses aren't always compatable with a lot hardware combinations. That's why it's best to come up with your own OC settings that are stable with your parts.
It's just like how the Nvidia/ATI speedup option seems like a good idea, but works poorly in practice.
Both are more useful to the marketing dept. in having more "why tech" features available to print on the outside of the retail box than they are to the end user.

  • CPU fan at high speed due to power supply sensor

The CPU fan on my Imac runs at 3900 RPM. Apple hardware test provides an error code of 4 SNS/1/40000000:TpOP-131.000 which is the temperature sensor on the power supply. I opened the Imac and the single wire to the power supply is connected securely. At this point, the problem could be in the sensor wire ( which disappears into the wiring harness), the power supply sensor - which I assume is built into the power supply, or in the the logic board where the temperature information is processed. I have tried the SMC and PRAM resets with no results. The wiring harness is very difficult to replace, and the power supply is relatively expensive, so I would appreciate it if anyone who has solved this problem could tell me what the solution was. I would really like to repair the Imac and eliminate the loud fan noise.

    Hi ee36,
Thanks for your response. I have performed the SMC reset you described many times with no positive results.
The apple repair manual for my Imac says to replace the wiring harness if you have this problem. A daunting procedure for me since you have to almost completely disassemble the Imac. It seems that if the sensor is disconnected (open circuit) the associated fan (CPU fan in this case) will always run at high speed. It seems to me that several failure modes would create this open circuit, and I was hoping that someone could identify how their Imac was fixed so I could hopefully determine the most likely effective repair. I have created an applescript program which I have set up to limit the cpu fan to 1500 RPM and limit the noise, but I would really like to have the security of knowing that the fan could respond to elevated temperatures if necessary. Thanks again.

  • IMac CPU fan speed at full blast.

I have a 20" iMac (A1224) and when you srtat it, the CPU fan goes full blast and never stops.
SMCFanControl reports the CPU fan at 3900 RPMs (full blast) but what is it trying to cool?  The temperature is 27 degrees celsius (80° F), Activity Monitor says 93% of my CPU is idle. I've done all the normal SMC/PRAM stuff and it seems that my CPU temps is just fine. Something needs to be replaced.

Also, yesterday it repeatedly shut down and restarted itself over and over and over until I unplugged it.

I realize that Eric. However, I am currently unable to: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21827955#21827955

  • Sorry, BIOS is Rev 1.0, CPU fan RPM still wont show, on Promise SATA and I have no activity led??

Yes, everything is properly connected, CPU fan is on CFAN1 and the HDD is on the Promise and the front panel led connector is properly connected.
Anyone know what the heck is wrong?? maybe my board has LED on VIA and not Promise opposed to Promise having it and VIA not??
and why won't my bios display the damn CFAN1 RPM's??? I tried every connector also.
    any help?
    thank you

Ok, this is weird, the HDD led connector was connected as directed in the manual, black (ground) on pin 1 and red (+12) on pin 3, whats weird is that I flipped it upside down (red on pin 1 and black on pin 3) and now it works, that just weird but at least it works now. every other connector works when connected normally, funny that I have to flip the HDD led connector upside down haha.
Anyway, still can't figure out the CPU Fan RPM, why it displays 0 while the Fan is actually running?? I don't know why.
Have you heard of that problem??
    Thanks again guys.
    Frank

  • How can i get the max rpm from cpu fan??

how can i get the max rpm from my cpu cooler regarding that i don't have a speed controller attached to the cpu fan ,,, ??  please make things clear for me
    thanks

if you have not reduced it by using a speed controller either hardware or software or by the 7v mod its already going as fast as it will at 12 v dc you cannot speed it up only slow it down
need more air get a different cooler/fan

  • My cpu stays on 3600 rpm. Therefore my fan are on 4800 rpm. Did a smc reset and al the other reset. Help me please. Apple cant help. I even clean the fan.

My cpu stays on 3600 rpm. Therefore my fan's run at 4800 rpm. Did a smc reset and al the other reset. Help me please. Apple cant help. I even clean the fan.
I have tried everything you can find on the net. From unplug the cable cord to cleaning fans. Smc reset en pram reset. Eeven more. Its a Intel imac 24 inch 2009. Help

    Hooray, I think I found a solution.
Using terminal commands there actually is a way to force smcFanControl to set a tolerable max rpm for the CPU fan.
    WARNING:
Be aware that this solution should only be used if you know what you're doing and you are absolutely sure the CPU fan on your iMac is indeed out of control.
Forcing a low max speed on a healthy CPU Fan with fully functioning sensors can seriously damage your Mac. You have been warned.
    The solution:
    Install smcFanControl
Go to the terminal and use these commands to regain control of your noisy iMac:
    /Applications/smcFanControl.app/Contents/Resources/smc -k F2Mx -w 12c0
This will set the CPU Fan to max at 1200 rpm: (Oh yes!)
To revert to standard settings use:
    /Applications/smcFanControl.app/Contents/Resources/smc -k F2Mx -w 3cf0
This will set CPU Fan to max at the default 3900 rpms
You might have noticed that the last 4 digits are the fan speed (in hexidecimal)
Other fan speeds you can try:
    1100rpm = 1130
    1500rpm = 1770
    3900rpm = 3cf0
Now all I need is a way to make the setting permanent. Anyone know how to run the above terminal command automatically on bootup?

  • What size CPU on a K7T266 Pro2 mobo

    Hi all,
Just a quick question does anyone know what is the biggest cpu that can be placed onto a K7T266 Pro2 mobo?
    Thnx

Read this guide for the modifaction needed to use the T-Bred core on certain models.
If your board needs the mod first, do that before trying to install the new CPU.
If your board does not need it, just install the CPU.
The highest CPU that can be used is the 2600+ with 266FSB, but they are very rare. Most 2600's have 333FSB, and will not work correctly. The 2400+ is very easy to find, and will certainly work, as every CPU from 2400 down that has  the XP in the name, is a 266FSB cpu.
