How do I fix this problem so I can watch purchased videos ?

In many cases, they are related, I have many users who have reported the repair of QuickTime fixed the issue.

  • Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini.  I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far.  I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

    Not on mac though

  • Invite to video chat grayed out

Invite to chat, video chat, and audio chat all grayed out. I can accept invites, but I can never invite anyone myself. Please help me!

You are saying that using the iChat Menu item to Log Out of AIM does not allow you to change the item in ichat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings ?
    Ok try it this way.
Go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts and remove the check tick in "Use this Account" on the Account info tab for the account/screen name in question.
Then go to the Security tab. Change the port.
Now check the first box about Use this Account again to log back in.
Failing that disconnect from the Internet and then do it.

  • Video is grayed out

i am trying to do a video chat with y friend but all the video chat and audio chat icons are grayed out and i have it enabled

    Hi,
If the Buddy is a Jabber Buddy (this includes GoogleTalk and Facebook IDs) then you will not be able to Video Chat to them unless they are also logged in via iChat.
Basically Jabber use a different Internet Protocol than iChat to Connect.
This is called Jingle and is a part of some Jabber apps but is also part of the Web Browser Plugin you can get from Google and their PC Standalone app called GoogleTalk as well.
Google's version is actually not that compatible with other Jabber apps (See Here)
I do not have a Facebook account to know how they do the Video bit but it will be by using Jingle.
If this does not cover the issue you are having please tell me the account types your are using.

  • Video & Audio Drop Outs on Macbook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with Version 10.7.3, 6 months old. Just recently when I play video, regardless of whether it's in iTunes, iMovie, or embedded in Keynote the video sticks, audio drops out for 1 -2 seconds or the shot freezes. What causes this and how is it fixed.

I apologize for the audio drop outs. I have sent you a private message to get account information from you so we can reprogram your boxes.

  • Final cut pro - editing music video audio falls out of sync

filmed with canon 7D- i play the music in the background for th artist to perform. upon loading up the footage into final cut, i sync the start of the video audio with the record, as they both play it falls out of sync. i did not have this problem when i edited with premiere. any ideas

Sync issues are *usually* going to be mismatched sample rates, for instance, you imported 44.1kHz audio into a 48kHz project.
This happened to me awhile back, and unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it. But what I *think* I did was click on the imported audio and went to the Retime menu and selected Conform Speed. If that doesn't work, right click on the audio in the event browser and select Transcode (if there's an option to do so in the dialog).
It is also possible to manually resync audio by Retiming it. Turn on snapping (N), select the clip, type Command-R and drag the audio clip's retiming handle until the end of the audio snaps with the end of the video clip (this is actually amazingly accurate.) [If your recorded audio is not the same length of the audio on the video, then set markers on the video and audio tracks and retime until the markers snap.] You should do this before any other edits.

  • ITunes Prefs: Video Section Grayed Out

I have collected a small group of videos for my new iPod: a TV show converted with Podner and now in a Podner playlist, a few video podcasts, and a few Handbrake-converted movies.
When setting my iTunes prefs for this iPod (I also have a 4G), I set the Music tab to manual transfer, the Podcast tab to selected playlists only (and they transferred successfully), the Photo tab was available but I left it alone, and the Video tab was readable but everything was grayed out. I couldn't make any choices (although the "selected playlists" option had my Podner playlist listed).
I've rebooted, re-sync'ed, etc., but Video is still grayed out. And the Videos section of iTunes has all my videos included, so they are definitely there. Any ideas what's wrong?

A couple of us on iLounge finally managed to fix it. We both were trying to put nothing but our videos on the new 5G, reserving our music for another iPod. So we had our iTunes prefs set to Manual for the 5G. I changed that to Only Sync Selected Playlists (for Music) and gave the 5G one small playlist of music, and that "ungrayed" the Videos tab. Kinda sounds like a bug in iTunes to me.
I don't know if this helps with your situation. Hope so. It's an awesome iPod once you manage to get everything working right.

  • Video Languages grayed out

Hi, First I must say I'm sorry if this has already been answered but I haven't been able to find anything that quite fits.
I have copied some DVDs I own using Mactheripper and handbrake and have added two audio tracks to use in iTunes and on my iPad and iPhone. One audio track is English and the other Japanese. When I open the file in Quicktime or VLC the audio tracks show up and are switchable but on my iPad or iPhone there is no way to change the audio track. The little dialog box that should appear doesn't. In iTunes the box is clickable but only the English Audio can be selected. The Japanese is grayed out.
I would be grateful for any help.

Well, in an update to this I was able to burn a movie with multiple audio tracks that show up fine in iTunes but when I copy to my iPad they just show up as Stereo, Stereo, Stereo. In other words the audio tracks are there but there are all labeled the same. Any ideas?

  • Audio Grayed Out

I can't figure out what the issue is what my audio. I currently have it running through a system via HDMI. I've had it this way for a few months now. Today I came home and my audio wasnt working and it is grayed out.
I option clicked it and selected "internal mic" and that helped as audio is now coming out of the mac mini itself.
I'm just not sure how to fix it so that it will come out of my system again. Any ideas?

    Hello,
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Ipod set to manual, video options grayed out, no copying

First, I was experimenting, which is why I am having the following issue. My ipod 30gig Video was formatted on Windows XP when purchased. I decided I wanted the new update, but to do that I had to get rid of everything and use the iPod CD to convert the iPod to a Mac format. I used PodUtil and copied every song and video purchased from Mac and stored them on my computer hard drive. The format to mac was flawless, even re-importing all the songs and videos into my iTunes library. I copied all the songs back into my iPod, no problems. Problem now...none of the Clone Wars, Avatar or other videos will copy to my iPod. I can highlight all of them , drag them to the ipod and get the green plus sign, but no copying occurs. Under iPod>options>videos, everything is grayed out. I can't choose anything. Under iPod>options>Music, it is set to manage playlists and music manually. So, how can I get my legally purchased Mac videos into my iPod now? Videos I have edited in Final Cut Pro and exported in the iPod format copy over flawlessly. For a tedious solution, I could import all the videos bought from apple into final cut pro and re-export them as iPod formats and then import the newly converted versions back into my iPod, but there is no garauntee that will work. Any ideas ?

Hold down the ⌥ and ⌘ keys while connecting your iPod. Keep them down until iTunes has opened and your iPod shows in the Source list.

  • Itunes video -- audio is out of sync

I've downloaded three "The Office" episodes over the past two months.
When I first downloaded an episoded it played back fine.
The most recent episode, I noticed the audio gets ahead of the video.
I played back the first episode I downloaded and the video-audio sync is off on that, as well.
    Any suggestions?
I have the latest Itunes and quicktime running on my pc.
