Videos extracted from compressed zips cannot be imported

I recently attained some video clips to edit in after effects. Just like every other time, it was a compressed zip folder from the web. I extracted it to a folder, and tried to import it into ae cc 2014. This time it said that a mp4 file was broken, damaged, or unsupported. So I opened the folder in the after effects project files window, and there was nothing. I tried importing them one by one, but each was "damaged". I downloaded the same zip files 4 times, and tried the same process. Then I tried a different clip pack from a different user, and nothing works. Any help? Because most footage of games that are found online are compressed in a zip file ;-;.

If a file is damaged there's not much you can do about it. It doesn't surprise me that game play videos folks have put up on the web have odd encodings, odd frame rates, odd frame sizes and other odd things that make MP4 decompression extremely difficult to work even in the best of circumstances. If you can open the videos in the Adobe Media Encoder or Premiere Pro or even QuickTime or another media player maybe you can export them to a production codec and save some of them.

  • Deleting files that have been extracted from a zip archive

Can we PLEASE get an update that will allow us to delete the files that were extracted from a zip archive. This is ridiculous. A quick google brings back loads of threads all over the place about people who want to be able to delete files but can't because of some daft bug.
How are RIM not aware of this? Do they not care?

There is a bug in the .zip decompressor used by the native file manager. It incorrectly applies file permissions sometimes stored in the archive to the extracted files, preventing them from being deleted by us mere mortals. Once extracted, there's nothing you can do.

You could, of course, use Files & Folders to extract your zip files, which doesn't suffer from this problem.

  • How To Unzip files from Compress Zip Archive Folder?

    Hi Friends,
I had compressed my docx files or images files in zip folder last month but unfortunately that folder has corrupted or damaged due to malware infections. But I am not
sure about that what reason behind of zip file get corrupt and inaccessible. If anyone knows about such tools which repair corrupt zip files quickly then shares with me that software information detail.
    Thanks

Also, the Microsoft Community/Answers forums might be of help. We cannot move this question there but I got these hits there when I searched on "repair zip":

  • Spotlight not finding files in folders that have been extracted from ZIPs

I've got a folder, say 'test', with some images in it. It is located in ~/Pictures.
I have just downloaded another folder as a ZIP file, which Safari put in /tmp and unzipped automatically. It contains some more images. Let's call it 'exif'. I have moved 'exif' into 'test'.
Now, when I do a Spotlight search of images in the folder 'test', Spotlight does not list the images in 'exif'!
(I do the search with CMD-F, 'test' folder only, Kind = Images.)
However, when I create a different folder in 'test' and move the images from 'exif' to the new one, then a Spotlight search for images in 'test' does list those, too.
Also, when I copy the originial unzipped folder 'exif' to 'test' (Alt + mouse drag), then the images in the new 'exif' folder show up in the Spotlight search.
So it seems a folder that has been extracted from a ZIP archive does not get indexed by Spotlight -- only if its contents have been copied first.
Is this a bug in Spotlight?
    Am I missing something?
It's pretty bad, because I would always have to remember to copy unzipped folders to a new one, in order to make sure that Spotlight does find the stuff!
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

Yeah the new search leaves something  to be desired (actually the old search wasn't so great either). You get better results using Google's advanced search and restricting the search domain to discussions.apple.com.
Here's what the search in Google looks like:
Anyway the old post is why doesn't spotlight search inside aperture library?  it explains why spotlight
doesn't search the library and how to work around it.

  • Cannot import video file from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11.

Hi this is my first post on this site.
I am having trouble trying to import video files from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11. The computer does not even recognize this camcorder. When I do a PC connection, iphoto comes up, but all it tells me to import are the pictures that I have taken.
No matter what I do, I cannot find the folder for my camcorder in the device section in the finder.
When I try to import it on imovie, I only get an option for facetime camera and not my vixia.
    Please help!

  • Reading a Compressed File from a ZIP File, which is an entry of ZIP File

    Hello, Experts,
Would it be possible somebody to help me with code example for the following problem?
I want to read a compressed file from a ZIP file, which is an entry of ZIP File, without extacting/writing files on file system. Is this possible?
Lets say we have a ZipFile1. There is ZipFile2 inside ZipFile1. And inside ZipFile2 is FileA. The scenario is reading FileA without extracting on file system.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Cheers
    RADY

The classes you want to be using are java.util.zip.ZipInputStream and and ZipEntry from the same package. Construct the ZipInputStream with the input you have for the outer zip. Loop with ZipInputStream.getNextEntry until you find the inner zip you're looking for - that method returns a ZipEntry, and you get the name of the zip entry with ZipEntry.getName. Read the ZipInputStream from that point into some buffer, and read that buffer into a new ZipInputStream - rinse and repeat until you have the contents of the file in the zip in the zip...

  • Problems importing videos recorded from my iPhone 3GS to iPhoto

I am having problems importing any videos recorded from my iPhone 3GS onto iPhoto. iPhoto keep giving me the following error:
"Error downloading Image. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."
If anyone else is having the same problem, please advise on how to fix.
    Thanks,

I am having the same problem...
and Image Capture ( didn't know we would normally be able to use it, but you can) also give an error
    "Import Error"
Now I have used "ITimelapse pro" to transfer some timelapse movies (about 3 that are about 30 to 60 seconds long) that I made to the phone's photo library.. and I has a very long video that I mistakenly made - (15 minutes long or so) and I "trimmed" it to be a few minutes long. -- and used "JotNot" to send a photo to the photo library... otherwise I have only some regular photos (about 40 ) and about 2 regular videos in the library.
so any suggestions... ( I am emailing all that I can to myself ... maybe ridding everything will help)

  • How can I import video clips from my Kodak Z740?

I have done this three times, and now I am unable to. I am losing my mind! I believe that when I did it before, I imported pictures first off the camera into iPhoto, then I pushed the import button again and the movie clips came in, which I then transferred to iMovie. This isn't working now. Help!

Hi Brealyn - welcome to iMovie Discussions!
Can you tell us more about what you are wanting to do?
Are you wanting to use movie clips from your digital still camera to make an iMovie video?
What part of the process is not working now? Are you able to import the still pictures into iPhoto successfully?
Can you also import the movie clips successfully, or is that the problem area?
If you have been able to import them, can you then not get them into iMovie?
Are you saying that you have succeeded three times in getting movie clips like that into iMovie?
Lots of questions!! Just want to clearly establish what you have managed before and what you cannot do now.
The following info comes from the iMovie Help Menu:
MPEG-4 video cameras (which yours is) may not have a FireWire connection, but have a USB connection. To transfer the video from and MPEG-4 device to your computer, connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project or to your desktop for importing later.
When importing footage from an MPEG-4 device, your video is imported as a single clip into your project; iMovie HD does not break it up into cllps automatically. You cannot use the capture controls to import your video or control your camera. You cannot use the Make a Magic iMovie feature to import video automatically from an MPEG-4 camera connected by a USB cable.
The Help Menu is really worth looking at.

  • .THM Sidecar Files Not Included When Importing Video Directly From Camera (Canon 7d)

Lightroom (3.4) has always copied the .THM sidecard files when I have imported video files from my Canon 7d using a card reader.  However I am on a trip and have forgotten my card reader so I have been copying directly from the camera and for some reason Lightroom is not copying the .THM sidecar files and thus I am missing all my valuable metadata such as camera, exposure, focal length, ISO, etc. associated with the video files.  Very frustrating!
    Any ideas?

Also because I do not have a card reader I cannot grab the .thm files myself.  Mac OS X (and I think Windows) just see the camera as a "device" and offer to import but do not give me direct access to the files.  Maybe if there is an app that will allow me to do that when the camera is connected I can work around this for now.

  • Importing  video files from harddrive to imovie08

I noticed this problem has been discussed but I still haven't found solution. On a trip I imported all my video files from my camcorder( HDR-SR5) to my hardrive. Now I'm trying get imovie to recognize them with no luck. Files seems to be multiplexed
MPEG-1/2. What ever that means. I can watch the videos with VLC but not with quicktime. Any help is appreciated after many hours of struggle. ( and when I imported the files to hard drive i only took the video files not any other data than was on my camcorder) hope there is solution_ Val

On a trip I imported all my video files from my camcorder( HDR-SR5) to my hardrive. Now I'm trying get imovie to recognize them with no luck.
When you copy your files from your camcorder to hard drive, you essentially limit yourself to "Finder" level file imports in iMovie '08. At this point you basically, you have two work flow options. The first is to "image" your files so that iMovie '08 thinks it is an attached camcorder and force iMovie '08 to convert the files to an iMovie '08 compatible compression format using the "Import from Camera..." option. The second is to manually convert the files yourself and import them normally using the Finder level "Import Files..." option.
With regard to the first option, you would have to search this forum for specific methods of simulation your particular unit. As to the second option there are many options depending on whether you are trying to import AVCHD (try Voltiac) or MPEG-2 SD (try the free iSquint application and convert to either H.264/AAC or MPEG4/AAC). (For the conversion of muxed MPEG-2 SD files to DV or other formats you can try applications like MPEG Streamclip which is free together with the $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component, FFmpegX which is donation-ware or Visual Hub which is pay-ware.)

  • How do I import my video files from old iPhoto - in time machine - to new iPhoto?  Photoes came across, video said incompatible.

how do I import my video files from old iPhoto - in time machine - to new iPhoto?  Photoes came across, video said incompatible.
i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

  • Can you import video directly from a video camera ?

Can you import video directly from a video camera to the iPad 2 ? If so, what is needed?

I would say no. I have an Ipad2 with the connection kit. A recent Sony camera which works fine in imovie for my 27" imac, but nothing with the Ipad. Only thing that it finds are pictures that can be made with the same video camera. Apple wrote a note aboit probkmes with importing, but i'm very disappointed with what i have right now.

I recently had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Now with the new version it will not allow me to click the check box "Do this automatically for files like this from now on". The line is disabled and a light gray. I went into the Applications tab under options and can't find the Compressed (zipped) Folders file type either.
I download a bunch of files for work and to have to click is going to be the biggest pain. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
